Mrs. Elizabeth Hahn November 7, 1932 - August 9, 2008 - HAHN, Elizabeth (Betty) Passed away peacefully on August 9, 2008 at the Scarborough Hospital in her 76th year after a long and courageous battle. Predeceased by her devoted husband Charles. Loving mother of Charles (Fernanda) and Karen (Tony). Wonderful grandmother of Joseph and Julia. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Mr. Leonard W. Sr. Parsons August 20, 1923 - August 10, 2008 - PARSONS, Leonard W. Sr. “Bunny” – 84, Glades Lodge, formerly of Lucasville, passed away Sunday, August 10, 2008, in Glades Lodge. Born in Lucasville, he was a son of the late Deacon Wesley and Elizabeth Parsons. Bunny was baptized in 1980 and was happy to serve as an usher in the Lucasville Baptist Church until he took ill. He worked at Heffler’s Lumber Mill all of his life until his retirement. Leonard was also a volunteer firefighter with the Sackville Fire Department. He enjoyed spending quality time with his family and giving them his advice, working on his cars, and tinkering around the yard. He is survived by sons, Leonard (Virginia), Roland (Barbara), Sheldon (Denise); daughters, Beverly, Carolyn, Norine; brother, Keith (Freda); sisters, Lillian Skier, Karen (Eugene), Corine Langford; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Gertrude; son, Chester; brothers, Ivan, Roger, Ralph, Edward; sisters, Viola Williams, Enid; granddaughter, Carol. Mr. John E. McNaughton October 13, 1944 - August 14, 2008 - The passing of John Edward McNaughton occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on August 14, 2008 after a long and courageous battle with COPD. John was born in Peterborough, Ontario on October 13, 1944. He joined the Black Watch of Canada in 1967 and served with various units after 1970 and retired in 1996 after serving 29 years. John is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of forty years; his daughter, Eleanor Bishop (Randy), son, John; his three grandchildren, Ashley, Allya and Hayden; two sisters, Sharon (Don) and Patricia (Syd), of Ontario and also by many nieces, nephews and cousins. John was pre-deceased by his Father, Mother and Stepmother. A memorial service will be held but arrangements are incomplete at this time. REDMOND, Douglas Rollen (WWII Veteran RCAF, Squadron 608 - DFC) Suddenly on October 29, 2008 in his 91st year. Beloved husband of Hazel, (Redmond) of 65 years. Born in Upper Musquodoboit, N.S., son of the late Alfred & Edith. Loving father of Sharon (late John Noonan), Rod (Marilyn), Ian (Susan). Cherished Grampy of Scott Noonan of Montreal, Lisa (Cory Cosgrove), Wendy (Chris Mullins), Madeline & Jack, all of Ottawa. Great-grandfather of Zachary, Rebecca and Cole. Survived by sisters, Hilda Gammell of N.S. and Pauline (Russell) Dean of Manitouwadge. Predeceased by infant son Peter, grandson Ryan and brother Stewart. Graduated with highest honours from the University of New Brunswick (BSc) and Yale University (MSc and PhD in forest pathology), before beginning a distinguished career in the federal public service. Dedicated his life to leading the Canadian Forestry Service in maintaining and preserving the Canadian forest industry through the promotion of conservation, preservation and reforestation measures. Represented Canada at the international level to spearhead the preservation of the world's forests and, for his efforts, received a Honourary membership in the International Union of Forest Research Officers (the first such award presented non-posthumously). Upon retirement, he continued to author research papers on matters relating to Canadian and international forest issues, and became President of the Canadian Institute of Forestry and continued to be actively involved with that organization up to his death. He was also active in the community as a member of Kiwanis, and in his later years, SAGE Kiwanis, spearheading charitable fundraising activities. Visitation to take place at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Home, 3440 Richmond Road (between Bayshore and Baseline Road), on Sunday November 2, 2008 from 3-5 pm and 7-9 pm. Sandra (Sandie) Dawn Martin passed away at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on October 26, 2008. Sandra was born in Whitehorse, Yukon on June 17, 1971. She was the daughter of Douglas and Jennifer Martin. She is survived by her stepfather, Carter Foster, mother, Jennifer and sister Brenda (Howard) Hurlburt. She was predeceased by her father Douglas, a brother, James and sisters Andrea, Brenda Lynn. She has many uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and a great nephew. Sandra was presently the Executive Director for the Volunteer Family Services at Woodstock, N.B. She loved helping people, she was very proud of her co-workers. She was grateful for all donations. Mr. William Alan (Pat) Pattison July 25, 1910 - August 6, 2008 - PATTISON, William Alan (Pat) Passed away August 6, 2008 in the Veterans' Wing at Sunnybrook Hospital. He is survived by his wife Catherine (Kay), his sister Edith Wormington and brother Lawrence. He was predeceased by his loving daughter Valerie (Jim) Stapleton. He will be deeply missed by his son John and daughter-in-law Gwen and grandchildren Michael (Sylvia), Patrick (Michelle), Chris, Tim (Jackie), Thom (Nancy) Stapleton, Jennifer (Stephen) Bartholomew, Derek (Erin) Pattison and 12 great-grandchildren. Pat was born in King's Norton, England on July 25, 1910 and his family returned to Calgary shortly thereafter. He retired as a Captain with the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals, Special Wireless, in 1947. Subsequently he spent many years with the Fiberglas Corporation in Sarnia. On retirement, he and Kay moved to London, Ontario and to Toronto in 2001. The family would like to thank the dedicated staff of the Veterans' Wing of Sunnybrook Hospital and particularly his primary nurse Laurel. CARMODY John Ernest passed away Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008 in hospital in Nanaimo, B.C. at the age of 68. Born in Fort Frances, Ont., he attended school in Fort Frances and Moose Jaw, Sask. He returned to Fort Frances, where he finished Grade 10 and then went to work in the O&M paper mill. He moved to Calgary, Alta. in 1974, and then in a few years to Nanaimo and made that his home. He leaves to mourn his son, Troy (Sharron) of Edson, Alta.; twin brother, Jim (Freeda) Carmody of Devlin, Ont.; grandchildren, Alexander, Melana, Shelly, Sheila, and Shawn; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother, Grace Carmody; father, Lloyd Carmody; brother, Earl; sister, Gene; and brother-in-law, Jim Springer. Cremation has taken place and burial will be at a later date. Mrs. Erika Blower December 22, 1929 - August 4, 2008 - BLOWER, Erika - Sadly on Monday August 4, 2008 at the age of 78 years. Dear mother of Larisa (Jeffrey) and her husband Colin, and Arthur Birkenbergs and his wife Debbie of Mississauga. Beloved grandmother of Dan Birkenbergs and his wife Erin, Craig Jeffrey, Natalie Socha and her husband Rob, and Erin Birkenbergs. She will be sadly missed by her dear friend and sister-in-law Betty Blower. Erika was born in Nurmuise, Latvia on December 22, 1929, daughter of Ernests and Emma Friedenbergs. She emigrated to Canada in 1949, where she married Ernests Birkenbergs (Deceased) and formed a life long friendship with Oz and Fran Argalis of Tiverton. She is predeceased by her second husband Gary Blower. Erika showed determination in surviving the many hardships of war time Europe and courage in surviving a more recent battle with cancer. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren often revealing a quirky sense of humour. Friends will be received for a celebration of Erika's life at the Glen Oaks Reception Centre 3164 Ninth Line (403/Dundas) Oakville 905-257-8822 on Thursday from 10am until time of service at 11am. Ms. Teresa Elizabeth Peverill (Brown) April 20, 1928 - August 8, 2008 - PEVERILL (Brown), Teresa Elizabeth – Age 80 of Lower Sackville, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2008, in Oceanview Manor, Eastern Passage. Born in Jacquet River, N.B. she was a daughter of Ambrose and Martha (Dempsey) of Armstrong’s Brook, N.B. Teresa enjoyed a rewarding career in elementary and resource education. She started teaching at Acadia School in Sackville, later taught at Port Maitland Elementary, and finally at North East Margaree Consolidated, where she spent many years as a resource teacher. She loved children and continued to correspond with some of her students all her life. Over the past 28 years in Sackville, she was known widely for her volunteer work at the 50 Plus Club and for St. John Vianney Church. She loved to cook, and particularly to bake for her friends’ special occasions. She loved dancing, bowling, puzzles, quiz shows and baseball. Oddly, she was proud to describe herself as “a non-driver, a non-drinker, a Liberal and a Blue Jays fan”; she was greatly comforted by the Blue Jays recent four-game win streak in her final days. Teresa was predeceased by her husband, Raymond G. “Rusty” Peverill, formerly of Sackville and Margaree Valley. She is survived by her loving children, Jane Ann Rafuse (Henry), Donald Gordon Peverill (Barbara), Brian Alan Peverill (Charlene) and Laura Rae Syms (Darrell). She was predeceased by her youngest daughter, Paula Elizabeth. Her sister, Jean Savoy (Romeo), survived her. She was predeceased by sisters, Avelda Hayes (Frank), Frances Hackett (Gerry), Patricia Doucet (Henry) and brothers, John, Jim (Lexy) and Rev. Don. She was a proud and loving grandparent of Shelagh, Wendy and Emily Peverill of Halifax, Richard and Jeremy Pynn of Margaree Valley, Luke, Matthew and Joshua Cadegan-Syms of Glace Bay and Jerry and Ronald Weir of Sackville. Special thanks to daughter, Jane for her devoted daily support during Teresa’s lengthy illness and to the cheerful staff of Oceanview Manor. Mr. Henry Orenstein January 13, 1918 - August 8, 2008 - ORENSTEIN, Henry - 1918-2008. 90, of Halifax, passed away quietly and peacefully, holding the hand of his wife of 62 years, Henry died of natural causes on August 8, 2008. Henry was an artist; an animator, a husband; father; grandfather; teacher; a gentleman; an activist; a soldier and a pacifist. Born in Midland, Ont., he grew up in Toronto where he developed his lifelong interest in politics and human rights. He fought as a foot soldier in the Second World War as a young man, an experience that cemented his pacifism. It was during the war that he met and married his wife Joan. They were immediate kindred spirits. After the war, Henry studied painting at the Art Students League of New York, later returning to Toronto to paint and start a family. Moving to Halifax in the 50s, Henry started at the CBC as a graphic designer, where he worked for 25 years. He also taught animation and drawing at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. All this time he raised a family, pursued his own painting and was an active member of the Halifax's arts community. Henry has works included in private and public collections across the country including the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, Sudbury Art Gallery. Mr. Alfred Lucien Leduc May 18, 1921 - August 14, 2008 - Alfred Leduc, Age 87, beloved husband of Yvonne Leduc of Mont St. Joseph, Prince Albert, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 14, 2008. He is survived by his loving wife Yvonne (Lavertu); his son Robert (Arlene) Leduc of Campbell River; his two grandchildren Kathleen Leduc, Tyler Leduc; his four step-sons Denis (Patricia) Lavertu, Robert Lavertu, Arthur Lavertu, Gerard (Sherry) Lavertu; her five step-daughters Rita (Syl) Feduniw, Muriel (Lloyd) Warkentin, Claire (Frank) Gallant, Alice (Paul) Gramlich, Jeanned’Arc (Terry) Emard; his 27 step-grandchildren and 40 step-great-grandchildren. He was known as a very special Pepere to all. Alfred was predeceased by his first wife Maria Bolduc of Albertville; his daughter MaryAnne Leduc; his parents; his brother Raymond Leduc; his sister Jeannette Samson and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law. He was born and raised in Albertville, SK. Alfred served in the Canadian Armed Forces from 1939-1945 where he was wounded in Germany while in action. When he returned he farmed and worked as a heavy-duty mechanic. He married Maria Bolduc of Albertville where they farmed and raised their two children. Some of his favorite hobbies were reading, playing cards, fishing with his family and friends and camping by a fire. He also enjoyed his Wednesday afternoon at the seniors club in Albertville. He was also very involved with committee projects and activities in Albertville. In 1996, he met and married Yvonne and inherited an extra large family. They resided in Albertville for approximately 10 years. They enjoyed entertaining friends and family. He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by all. The family would like to thank the kind and caring staff of Victoria Hospital, Mont St. Joseph, Dr. Maya and Dr. Crawford. Prayer Service will be held at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, August 17 from River Park Memorial Chapel – 301 River Street West. Sister Renée Buliard will officiate. REYNOLDS, Kenneth Roy May 19, 1954 - October 29, 2008 My beloved Schatzi, and our children's treasured Papa, was called home to be with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on October 29, 2008. He passed away peacefully in his sleep and is survived by his wife and soulmate Corinna and his two beautiful daughters Katrina and Sabrina. He is also survived by his parents Roy and Lois Reynolds (predeceased by his mother Irene), his sister Beverly Reynolds (Dave Smith), his brother Cliff (Sherry), as well as his in-laws Erhard and Hannelore Gorski. Ken's love for his Lord was evident in many ways but especially in his love for his family whom he loved and adored deeply. He was actively engaged in the First Alliance Church choir for eighteen years and sang in "Acclamation", a vocal ensemble, for seventeen years. Delivering the message of salvation through song and performance, and glorifying God was a ministry Ken loved. Although we will miss him greatly we have the assurance that we will be reunited in eternity. Mr. Edmond Joseph Hebert, husband of Joan (Lee) Hebert of South Nelson, Miramichi, passed away Sunday evening at Miramichi Regional Hospital, at the age of 63. Born in Allainville, he was the son of Mrs. Margaret (Gauvereau) Hebert and the late Lionel Hebert. He was a self employed mechanic. He was a member of St Patrick's Roman Catholic Church. Soloist and guitarist Paula Foley rendered "Here I Am Lord", "I Watch the Sun Rise" and "Peace Is Flowing Like a River".
