1921 - 2008 At the Upper River Valley Hospital, Waterville, NB, on October 20, 2008, Hazen Glen Ebbett of Upper Kent, NB passed away at the age of 87. Born in Simonds, NB on September 29, 1921, Hazen was the son of the late Earl and Gladys (Underhill) Ebbett, and husband to the late Julia (Ball) Ebbett. Besides his family and work, Hazen enjoyed cards, fishing, and hunting. Hazen is survived by his seven daughters: Rose Ebbett, Susan Bushby (Jim), Fay Milbury (Lynwood), Nancy Pickard (Peter), Penny McCain (Stephen), Jackie Boyd (Mike), and Peggy Jo Ebbett. Also survived by brothers Harry (Annetta) and Claude (Elsie), sisters Audrey Blue (Arthur), Letha Gaunce, Nina Ball (Ronald), and Alice Cogswell (Fred). Hazen took delight in his 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Predeceased by his parents, wife, and brother, Wendell. Funeral service was held on Wednesday, October 22, 2008 from Kilcollin's Funeral Chapel, Bath, NB. Officiated by Rev. Dale MacDonald and Pastor Duane Milbury (grandson). PASIEKA, Walter 2008-10-31 Walter Pasieka passed away on Tuesday, October 14th with his family at his side. Walter was born on November 5th, 1913 in Dauphin, Man. He was the youngest of eleven siblings. He was predeceased by both parents and siblings. Walter went to Flin Flon in the early 30’s with a team of horses. He and Howard Hedman built the highway between Channing and Green St. in Flin Flon with their teams during the summer of 1938. The following year they built the section between Channing and Big Island Lake. Ivor Hedman delivered Walter‘s Star Phoenix to his log house near Green St. and Phelan Ave. Walter often treated Ivor to a bowl of mulligan stew and a chance to warm up as he was at the end of the route. They have been friends ever since. Walter joined the Army in 1939 and wound up as a signaller in the Nova Scotia Highlander Regiment. He fought in Italy with the 1st Canadian Division, and later, in France, Belgium and Holland. He survived the war without a scratch. After the war he returned to Flin Flon and worked in the lumber business. He had a truck and hauled logs for Orson Wright from Mikanagan Lake area. He established his own lumber mill on the Northeast arm of Schist Lake where he resided and carried on business for many, many years. Most of the cabins, decks and garages in the Bakers Narrows, Big Island Lake, Sourdough Bay and Flin Flon area from the 50’s to the 80’s were built with Pasieka lumber. Thus he earned the title of "Lumber Baron". He survived a terrible crash on Big Island hill which would have probably killed a lesser man. He had a very swollen knee and a slight limp afterwards. He was a life member of the "Boardroom" Group and came for a steam bath and shower every week. He enjoyed accompanying the Boardroom River Group on canoe trips where he drove the pick-up vehicle and refreshment wagon. He sold the mill in 1980 and took up wild rice farming and golf. He liked to get on the golf course early so he could beat Bill Folwark to the beer cans in the bins at each tee. He paid for nearly half his membership fees with those cans! Cross country skiing was another pastime which he got into in later life. He spent many hours grooming trails at the Flin Flon Ski Club as well as skiing on the trails there. His friend, Bill Jackson, of Jackson Air Services, threw an 80th birthday party for Walter at his hangar, which was filled with Walter’s friends. It was a great party! A few years later Walter‘s niece, Marlene, took him to live with her and her Mother (Walter’s sister) in Thunder Bay. Walter spent his last years there with family and friends enjoying a good quality of life. Walter will always be remembered fondly by his family and friends. A graveside service will be held on Monday, November 3rd at Mountain View Military Plot beginning at 3:00pm with Father Ray Ronquillo officiating. Mr. Curtis Hyulett Nason August 26, 1924 - August 6, 2008 - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather Curtis Nason on August 6, 2008 at The Lodge at Broadmead. He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Amelia “Mela” (Forsey) and his son, Gary (Diana) and grandson Joel; daughter; Laraine “Rainey” Davey (Bruce), grandchildren: Alicia, Meghan, Graham and Colin; his sister-in-law Irene Nason. He was predeceased by his father Hyulett, mother Florence, and brother, Ronald. Curtis was born on August 26, 1924 in Waasis, New Brunswick. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force (R.C.A.F.) in the latter years of World War ll. Following the War, Curtis obtained an Aeronautical Engineering Diploma in Southern California and served a further 22 years in the R.C.A.F. Following his retirement from the R.C.A.F. he worked with Canadair in Montreal for five years then joined the Federal Public Service in Ottawa for another 20 years. For the past 17 years Curtis and Amelia have enjoyed retirement in Saanichton, B.C. Curtis was an accomplished woodworker, gardener and loving grandfather. Our grateful thanks to Dr. Rosenberg, staff and friends on Palm North at The Lodge at Broadmead. Special thanks to the Activity Workers, The Physiotherapy and Arts and Crafts staff at the Lodge for helping to enrich Curtis’s life the past 20 months. Mrs. Hilda Sophia Boulton February 20, 1926 - August 6, 2008 - BOULTON (MacNeil), Hilda Sophia "Skip" - 82, Halifax, passed away peacefully with family by her side on August 6, 2008, in Parkland at The Lake, Dartmouth. Skip was born in Alder Point, Cape Breton, the seventh daughter of the late Peter Charles and Sophie (Doucet) MacNeil. She moved to Halifax in her early 20s and worked at the VG Hospital where she began her career in the service industry. Her friendly nature endeared her to those she worked with and for. Falling in love with Doug "the one armed bandit" and raising three kids with him provided her with some of life's toughest challenges and proudest moments. Her boundless energy in later years led her to a new career in the child care profession. To this day Skip is praised and appreciated by those she looked after. She enjoyed painting, music, dancing and long walks chatting with friends, which she continued to do well into her late 70s. Skip will be sadly missed by sons, Darrell (Colette Glazebrook), Halifax; Dana (Christina McCarron), Wellington; daughter, Wendy (Billy Walsh), Lower Sackville; sister, Theresa (Mrs. Robert Hawatson), North Sydney; grandchildren, Leslie, Holly, Jesse, Delia, Elijah, and Isabella. She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Douglas Boulton, in 2007; sisters, Mary Lou, Minnie, Monica, Rita, Agnes, and special niece, Clara. She will be fondly remembered for her honesty, her good humour and the kindness she shared with everyone she met; not to mention her unrivaled cooking and baking skills. Skip left us as she lived, without complaints and quiet dignity in the face of sadness and trouble, with strength, courage and faith that made her the soul of our family. She gave us unconditional love, comfort and joy that we feel whenever we talk about her. Our mother is our oldest and closest friend, and she will be loved, missed and treasured forever. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Atlantic Funeral Home. Elle était la fille de feu M. Ludger Ménard et de feu Mme Marie-Élise Potvin. Elle laisse dans le deuil ses enfants: Serge (Louise Lavoie), Marcel (Liliane Lavoie), Johanne, Marlène (Jean-Marc Simard), Carl, Hélène et Steeve (Anne Lalancette); ses petits-enfants: Annick Martel, Valérie Martel, Marie-Ève Lavoie-Martel, Audrey Martel, Jimmy Martel, Marilyne Martel, Michel Lalancette, Any-Claude Martel, Laury Martel et Sarah-Maude Fradette; ses arrière-petits-enfants: Jérémy Lecompte, William Martel, Kelly-Anne et Mathis. Mrs. Gladys Gordon July 7, 1914 - August 6, 2008 - GLADYS GORDON (nee Goodale) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gladys May Gordon on August 6, 2008 at the age of 94 years. She was predeceased by her parents Albert and Minnie Goodale and her siblings, Dorothy and Harry Goodale. Gladys is survived by her loving husband of 63 years Roly; her daughters Fran Burnside (John) and Jan Stirr (Fred); granddaughters Jamie Moi (Joey) and Laurie Hutton (Chris); niece Shari Masson (Phil); nephew Ralph Goodale (Pam); special cousin Marg Gould (Page). Gladys was a devoted and selfless volunteer throughout her life giving countless hours to both the community and her church. Some of her volunteer activities included, many years on the Connaught Home and School executive, canvassing for numerous charities, delivering and coordinationg Meals on Wheels, 33 years as an active member of the Qu’Appelle House Auxiliary and 25 years as an ACW leader. Gladys was the secretary-treasurer for St. Mary’s Anglican Church for 7 years, envelope secretary for 10 years as well as the church archivist. She was an excellent seamstress and crafts person, spending hours designing beautiful aprons and craft items for the church bazaars. Always reliable, Gladys pursued excellence in everything she did and could be counted on to lend a hand wherever needed. Her kind and generous nature and devotion to helping others earned her the love and respect of those whose lives she touched. Gladys will be greatly missed by her many friends and family. A CELEBRATION OF GLADYS’ LIFE was held at St. Mary’s Anglican Church, 3337 15th Avenue, Regina, SK on Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. Gladys’ family would like to express their sincere thanks to Dr. Chris Vuksic, the staff on 3E at Regina General Hospital and the Regina Wascana Grace Hospice for the excellent care they provided.
