Mr. Merle M. Hopper November 9, 1923 - July 20, 2008 Merle M. Hopper of Moncton passed away peacefully at the Jordan Lifecare Center, River Glade, NB on Sunday, July 20th, 2008 at the age of 84 years. Husband of the late Dorothy (MacDonald) Hopper. Born in Nixon Settlement, he was the son of the late Evan and Janice (Mitton) Hopper. Merle enjoyed horse pulling with longtime friend Darryl Geldart, he also had a sugar camp with lifetime friend and cousin Rae Hopper in Meadow. He also did the Sleight rides / Hayrides at Centenial Park for over 16 years with his lifetime friend Yvon Collette. He was very active he cut his own firewood until he was 76 years old. He enjoyed laughing and teasing who ever were around him and avid outdoorsmen. Merle is survived by his two sons; James (Suzanne) of Moncton, Gordon (Wanda) of Colpitts Settlement, brother of; Doris (Merritt) Scott of Fredericton, Ruth (Sandy) Phillips of Hillsborough, grandchildren; Christine (Trevor), Cindy (Denis), Jeffery (Shelley), Gina, Shane (Kelly), great grandchildren; Bradley, Kirsten, Eliza & Isaac and by several nieces and nephews. Merle was predeceased by his parents and Evan's second wife Joyce, his sister Violet Wilson. Visitation will be held at Fair Haven Funeral Home on Monday, July 21, 2008 from 7:00 - 9:00 pm. Funeral service will be held from the funeral home chapel on Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Carol Mullin officiating with burial to Fair Haven Memorial Gardens to follow. BANKS, Joan Marie - After a lengthy struggle with complications from Alzheimers, at Marshall Gowland Manor on Tuesday, October 14, 2008, Joan Marie (Simpson) Banks, age 78 of Bright's Grove. Beloved wife of Peter. Loving mother of Cynthia (Alan) Gorth and Krista (Rob) Rodenhuis. Cherished grandmother of Amy, Eric, Laura and Mark Gorth and Deneen, Jill and Olivia Rodenhuis. Dear sister of John (Shirley) Simpson and Barbara and the late Clarence Carter. Joan was a former kindergarten teacher with the Lambton County Board of Education. She was very active in Lambton Wildlife Incorporated in the early years and was one of the fifteen Charter Directors. She was also a former President of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Joan was an expert on orchid culture and won many prizes for best-in-show with her exhibits in London, Toronto, Detroit and Midland. Cake decorating was one of her hobbies at one time. She was considered by many to be the premier decorator in the area then, and taught cake decorating at Lambton College for several seasons. Joan was a world traveler with her husband, supported artists in every country she visited and has left many friends in the field. A celebration of Joan's life will be held for friends, neighbours, associates and family at the Sarnia Riding Club, 980 Riding Club Lane, Sarnia on Sunday, October 19, 2008 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Cremation has taken place. The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Marshall Gowland Manor for their excellent care of Joan the past three years. Mr. Marty Elmer Lund October 7, 1961 - July 19, 2008 Marty Elmer Lund passed away suddenly on Saturday, July 19, 2008 in Golden, BC at the age of 46 years. He was predeceased by his father Elmer. Marty will be lovingly remembered by his wife Vivian; two sons Michael and Aaron; mother Marie (Charlie) Becker; sister Debbie (Rodney) Makelki; brother Wayne (Betty); father-and mother-in-law Juel and Audrey Field; sisters-in-law Susan Field and Karen (Greg) Pflanzner; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Marty was born in Radville, SK and attended school at Lake Alma and Gladmar. On October 6, 1984, he married Vivian Field, his classmate all through school. From an early age, he was a hard worker, resourceful and capable of fixing anything. He worked on his parents’ farm and in their garage and hotel business during school. For eight years, he worked on drilling rigs as a roughneck and quickly rose to the position of driller. He also operated a custom harvesting business with his father and brother in Oklahoma, Nebraska and South Dakota for three years. In 1987, he moved to Regina and completed the Electrical Engineering Technology program at STI in Moose Jaw, with co-op terms at SaskTel and the Saskatchewan Research Council. In 1990, he started work at Ipsco (now Evraz), grinding pipe, and quickly rose through the ranks to his latest position as General Foreman of ERW, where his calm manner and talent for solving problems and fixing things were put to good use. He always had time for his family. A loving husband, he was a great dad for Michael and Aaron, devoting hours to leading their Cub Scout troops and building a beautiful acreage home for them at White City. He taught them how to work hard and have fun and was very proud of their accomplishments. He enjoyed traveling with his family on vacations to California, Florida, Arizona and Mexico. He worked hard, but always had time for fun, including hockey with the Lumsden Hurricanes, fastball and slow pitch, building and racing four wheel drive mud trucks, hunting, quadding and snowmobiling. His latest passion was adventure racing- kayaking, hiking and mountain biking. He passed away participating in his fifth Race the Rockies event at Golden, BC while pursuing his next adventure. A VISITATION will be held at Regina Funeral Home, Hwy #1 East, Regina, SK on Thursday, July 24, 2008 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1909 Ottawa Street, Regina, SK on Friday, July 25, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. INTERMENT will be held at Regina Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Grace Margaret LEOPOLD March 6, 1926 - July 20, 2008 Grace Margaret Leopold, age 82, of Windsor, passed away Sunday, July 20th, 2008, in the Windsor Elms Village, King Street, Windsor. Grace was born on March 6th, 1926, in New Germany, Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia, and was the daughter of the late Henderson and Alice (Carver) Rhoddy. She worked as a door to door housekeeper; was a cook and a baker at Walker's Restaurant in Windsor for many years; she also kept children in her home and cared for sick family members. She had many hobbies which included, walking, driving and sight seeing, music, gardening, knitting, needle work, wood working (such as window, door casings, floors, wooden ornaments and painting them), sewing, games, and bowling. Miss Alma Blanche Diamond July 11, 1940 - July 19, 2008 DIAMOND, Alma Blanche - 68, Dartmouth, formerly of Corner Brook, N.L., passed away July 19, 2008, in Northwood Manor. Born in Lark Harbour, N.L., she was a daughter of Clayton and Bessie Diamond. Alma lived at Small Options Home in Dartmouth for many years. She enjoyed going to Community Centre and also DASC for different activities. Alma also enjoyed spending time with her family and her wonderful caregivers. She loved knitting, shopping, coffee outings, dances and walks. She is survived by sisters, Wavey (Tim) Crandall, Donna McCullough, Wanda (Bud) Sullivan; many nieces and nephews, and numerous cousins and several aunts and uncles. She was predeceased by her parents, Clayton and Bessie Diamond; brother, John; brother-in-law, John, and nephew, Bryan. ELLIS, Marguerite - It is with profound sadness and an overwhelming sense of loss that we announce her passing on Tuesday, October 14, 2008 in her 83rd year. Beloved wife of the late John Ellis (1992). Loving mother of Kathleen Snizek (Franz), Deborah Cordes (James) and Cynthia Mitchell (James). She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren Jacqueline McCollom-Cowan (Jason), Jessica Federkow (Billy), Catie Cordes and her great-grandchildren Connor and Miya Federkow. She is survived by her sister Shirley Jacobs, sister-in-law Helen Malton and predeceased by her brother Reginald Malton. Our lives have been blessed by her generousity of love, care, courage, dignity and strength of character. Marguerite has touched many lives with her quick wit and keen sense of humour.
