EMERSON, John Graham February 20, 1951 - September 5, 2008 John passed away peacefully on September 5, 2008. He was predeceased by his parents Robert and Joan Emerson (nee Graham). John is survived by his loving wife of 30 years Jeannie (nee Shearer) and his dear brothers and sisters Bob Emerson (Andy Brown), Carolyn Cannon (the late Leo), Bill Emerson (Pam Pinault) and Melissa Dougherty (Gary). He was a special uncle to his nieces and nephews and he was so very proud of them all: Kevin Cannon (Tina), Amy Cannon, Jamie Pinault (Scott Kipp), Joe Emerson, Kristin Pinault, Sarah Dougherty, Kathryn Dougherty, Greg McNamara (Kim), Zach McNamara, Doug Schipilow, John Schipilow, Kristina Sheldon and great nieces Giovanna, Makenzie and Alexandra Cannon and Laing McNamara. John will also be greatly missed by his mother and father-in-law Phyllis and Ron Read and sisters and brothers-in-law David Shearer (Chris Walker), Cathy Schipilow (Bill) and Mike McNamara (the late Wendy) (Joan), his special cousin David Graham (Karen) who was like a brother to him and by his many cousins, friends and co-workers at Royal Bank of Canada where he worked for 34 years. The family would like to thank the many wonderful healthcare providers from the Queensway Carleton Hospital, the Ottawa Hospital, the Ottawa Regional Cancer Centre and We Care Home Health Services who cared for John through his illness. CONTAXAKIS, Nicholas. (1922-2008) It is with great sadness in our hearts that we mourn the passing of our patriarch, our Papou. Beloved husband of the late Angeliki, cherished father of George (Silvia), Soula (Elias), grandfather of Mary (Tim), Nicholaos (Marcella), Stefan, Thomas (Veronique). He leaves to mourn four generations, from his brother and sister to his great-grandchildren. A veteran of World War Two, his struggle in the end was a difficult one to which surrender was only given after a long courageous battle. His departure leaves a void in the lives of his loving family and countless friends and acquaintances. He will be remembered for his many community contributions and his ever-enduring smile, the likes of which had no equal. Final respects can be given on Wednesday September 10, from 2 to 5 and from 7 to 9 at Urgel Bourgie, 1255 Beaumont, TMR, H3P-3J1. JONES, Geraldine (nee Sydor). Passed away on Monday, September 8, 2008 at Henderson Hospital, Hamilton, after a courageous battle with cancer, in her seventy-fourth year. OBITUARY DONALD DEP CHOR LEE World's Most Extraordinary Husband and Dad passes Away at seventy-five Donald Dep Chor Lee, community leader, entrepreneur and avid fisherman was known for his love of family, friends, community and the Habs. One of the partners in the Leung Jung International Trading Co., he served as president of the Montreal Lee's Association and treasurer of the Montreal Chinese Community and Cultural Center. On September 6, Donald died as he lived - with courage, selflessness, and the enduring heart of a champion. He will be sorely missed by his beloved wife of 54 years, Mary Wong Lee and his four children, Paul (Virginia), Edward (Jinah), Lila (Tim) and Cynthia (Brendan). OBITUARY FREDERICK EDGAR ROLUF Passed away peacefully on Friday evening, September 5, 2008, at the Lakeshore General Hospital after a lengthy illness. Loving father of Kimberly, brother of Grace Knechtel (Vancouver), Albert Roluf (Timmins, Ontario) and Adele Archer (Thunderbay, Ontario). He was pre-deceased by his parents Barbara and Carl Roluf, his older brother Lawrence (Larry), and his sister Marjorie Stieh. His much beloved son Kevin passed away in Montreal in 1991. Fred was born on July 2, 1927, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He received his education and his flight training in that city and then flew in Northern Ontario for a short time before moving to Sept-Iles, Quebec, where he flew for the Iron Ore Company of Canada. In 1964, he relocated to Montreal as chief pilot of the I.O.C., many years later in Montreal he became chief pilot at Northern Telecom where he oversaw flight operations for a fleet of corporate jets. Fred was a dedicated member of the Masons for many years (Harmony Lodge 131 in Pierrefonds, Quebec). A creative person throughout his life, Fred was an accomplished oil painter of portraits and landscapes; a talented wood worker always happiest when tackling a new project; a trumpet player in his youth as well as an avid bird watcher in later life. Fred, Larry, and Kevin were especially fond of the dogs -- Thor and then Jason -- two black and tan Great Danes who lived long and happily as full-fledged members of the family. BACHYNSKI, Rosemarie Hanna Magdalene (nee Meyer) On Friday, September 5, 2008 at the age of 83 years, Rosemarie Bachynski passed away peacefully with her family at her side at the Rockyview General Hospital after a brief illness. Rosemarie was born September 24, 1924 in Nauen, Berlin, Germany. Rosemarie immigrated to Canada in 1954 settling in Empress, Alberta, where she worked as a Registered Nurse at the Empress Municipal Hospital. She met and married her husband of forty-five years in 1959 and then moved to Calgary where they had two children. Rosemarie continued nursing in Calgary working primarily in elder care and orthopedic rehabilitation at the Colonel Belcher Hospital, the Central Park Lodge Nursing Home, the George Boyack Nursing Home and the Calgary General Hospital. Rosemarie was predeceased by her husband, Joseph, her sister, Magdalene (Wiga) and her parents, Hanna and Erich Meyer. Rosemarie will be deeply missed by her son, Martin (Joanne) Bachynski and daughter, Susan Johnson, her five grandchildren, Michael (Jennya), Jennifer, Brenda and Joseph Bachynski and Justine Johnson and her great-grandchild, Matthew Bachynski. Her passing will also be mourned by her brother, Ekkehard Meyer and her brother-in-law, Alfred Jung, both of Germany, as well as extended family and friends. Rosemarie will be remembered as a loving and generous wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. HAGEL, Ruby June 26, 1938 - September 8, 2008 Ruby Hagel of Calgary, passed away on Monday, September 8, 2008 at the age of 70 years. Ruby grew up in Acme, AB, where she later met the love of her life, Manny Hagel. Together they raised their family in Beiseker, and moved to Calgary in 1973. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, who always enjoyed time with her family and friends. Ruby is survived by her children, Randy (Shannon) Hagel, Sherri Hagel, Laura (Willie) Dueck and Bruce (Nathalie) Hagel; and eight grandchildren, Becky (Jimmy Parker), Katie, Christopher, David, Michelle, Jonathan, Matthew and Natasha. She is also survived by her mother, Barbara Fischer of Calgary, her brother and sister-in-law, Leroy and Carol Fischer of Beiseker, two sisters Ellie Anhorn of Calgary and Rita Griego of Portland, OR. LEE, Walter Grant Walter Grant Lee, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2008. Grant, 91, was a loving and active father, husband, and a proud grandfather. He was a husband for fifty years to Irene Lee (nee How, deceased May 2007). Grant is survived by his daughter, Tamara Ann Lee, and sons Christopher Duncan Lee and Gregory Arthur Lee; his son-in-law, Daniel Levinson, and daughters-in-law, Camelia Lee and Iolani Lee; and three beautiful granddaughters, Katherine Levinson, Maci Lee and Rachel Lee. Grant, born in Toronto, Ontario in 1917, volunteered for the Canadian Army during World War II. He later became an innovative, hard-working, and well-known professional photographer, running the family business, Lee Studio, for many years. Grant was an intelligent, feisty and independent spirit who will be sorely missed by all who knew him. The family would like to thank the staff of Foothills Hospital for their support. LETOURNEAU, Colleen May 15, 1961 - September 5, 2008 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Colleen Letourneau on September 5. Colleen grew up in Leduc and lived the majority of her adult life in Calgary. Colleen was a woman of conviction and actively pursued many of her passions including cooking, travel and design. Her creativity found expression in the interiors of her homes and led to a successful career in kitchen design. Colleen was an accomplished hostess to numerous gatherings of friends and family. She shared many travels and adventures with her husband Barry, including work assignments in Houston and Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. With her passing, Colleen leaves behind her soulmate Barry Baglot; stepdaughter Amanda; parents Clifford and Ruth Letourneau; brother Larry and his daughters Melissa and Christina; father-in-law Rene Baglot; mother-in-law Madeline (Stan) Sovka; sisters-in-law Joanne (Odean), Rhonda and Norma; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many close friends. MULLER, Wolfgang Heinrich December 4, 1934 - September 4, 2008 Wolfgang Muller, beloved husband of Ruby Hoyos of Calgary, passed away on Thursday, September 4, 2008 at the age of 73 years. Wolfgang was born in Duisburg, Germany to Hermann and Kaethe (nee Neuwohner) on December 4, 1934. In 1957 he immigrated to Canada, first living in Edmonton, then moving to Calgary in 1958. In February 1960, he married Marta Lucia Echeverri. Wolfgang worked as a finishing carpenter until he was forced to retire in 1986 due to being diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis. On September 15, 1987, Wolfgang became the tenth successful single living transplant recipient in the world and at the time of his passing, held the Guinness World Record as the longest living single lung transplant (twenty years and three hundred and fifty-four days). After his surgery, Wolfgang became involved with the Canadian and World Transplant Games, competing in Table Tennis and winning medals in Hungary, Singapore, England, and Japan. After Marta's passing, Wolfgang was blessed to find love a second time and married Ruby in May of 2002. Besides his loving wife Ruby, Wolfgang is survived by his children, Hermann, Margarita and Hernan; and six grandchildren, Christopher, Xavier, Darius, Ethan, Selena, and Malick; as well as numerous members of his extended family. He was predeceased by his first wife Marta (1996) and their first daughter Teresa (2000). She has been a resident of Calgary for many years and had taught piano from her home. Rose is survived by her son James (Gloria) Rosenau of Borrego Springs, CA; grandchildren Angela Rosenau of San Diego, CA and Suzanne Rosenau of Concorde, CA; stepson John (Bonnie) Schmelke; grandchildren Alison Schmelke (Paul Haagenson) and Jill (David) Gates, five great-grandchildren Ivan, Blythe, Johnny, Mary Rosa and Jessie all of Vancouver, BC; niece Betty Jack, nephew Cecil Briggs, niece June (Bill) Davis all of Calgary,also numerous grandnieces and nephews. Rose is predeceased by her husband, Orville on October 24, 1998, sister, Amalia Briggs in 1983 and brother Adam Salmeier in 1971. ZOLMER, Karen (nee Boston) May 18, 1953 - September 6, 2008 Karen Zolmer of Airdrie, AB, passed away following a brief but brave struggle against cancer, on Saturday, September 6, 2008 at the age of 55 years. Karen was born and raised in Red Deer, AB. She resided in Beiseker for many years before moving to Airdrie four years ago. Karen was a devoted hockey mom and enjoyed curling and golfing in her spare time. Karen will be sadly missed by her beloved sons, Ryan (Melissa) of Strathmore, and Steven of Airdrie. CAMPBELL, Gerald E. - age 60, of Janesville, died unexpectedly Friday, September 5, 2008, at Mercy Hospital. He was born in Iroquois Falls, Ontario, Canada, on November 24, 1947, the son of Alan and Lucienne (Pepin) Campbell and had graduated from Georgian College in Barrie, Ontario. Gerald finished his apprenticeship in Electrical construction at George Brown University, Toronto. He married Marlene T. Gauthier on February 17, 1980, in Midland, MI. He had been employed by General Motors Assembly in Pontiac, MI, until its closure. He transferred to Janesville, WI, in 1990, and was currently an electrician in the skilled trades. Gerald was a member of UAW Local 95, IBEW Local in Barrie, Ontario, Loyal Order of Moose #197, and the Janesville Hockey Club. He loved ice skating, coaching and playing hockey, welding, and was proficient in auto mechanics. He also loved to fly and was a certified private pilot, volunteering for Angel Flight. He had memberships in EAA, AOPA, Vintage Aircraft Association, Soaring Society of America, and was a sponsor for the Young Eagles Association. Gerald was most proud of his fulfillment of becoming a United States Citizen on July 23, 2008. He is survived by his wife, Marlene; 2 sons, Chuck (Kari) Campbell and Thomas Campbell both of Janesville; a special grandson, Jaicy; his mother, Lucienne Campbell of Iroquois Falls, Ontario; 5 siblings: Norman (Marian) Campbell, Robert (Lori) Campbell, and Carol (James) Ronholm all of Iroquois Falls, Ontario, Donald (Karen) Campbell of Guelph, Ontario, and Michelle (Ken) Glibbery of Sudbury, Ontario; a sister-in-law, Martine Rosseau-Campbell of Montreal, Quebec; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father; and a brother, Dennis Campbell. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 10, 2008, at ST. Père bien-aimé de Mario (Monique) de Sudbury, Alain (Renée-Claude) et Marie-Josée Taillefer-Martin (Léo) tous deux de Sturgeon Falls. Son souvenir restera gravé dans la mémoire de ses huit petits-enfants, Mathieu, Tanya, Kristine, Olivia-Ann, Véronique, Valérie, Émilie et Marc-André. His last days were spent at the Woodstock General Hospital, surrounded by his caring family. WILSON, Lillian Ida “Lil” 2008-09-09 Mrs. Lillian Ida “Lil” Wilson, age 82 years, a resident of Thunder Bay, passed away peacefully in St. Joseph‘s Hospital on Saturday, September 6, 2008 with family by her side. Born in Port Arthur, Ontario on June 16, 1926, she was a lifetime resident of the city. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Lil‘s family and home were her main interests. Lil loved to fish and enjoyed gardening, camping and dancing. Lillian will be lovingly remembered by Raymond, her husband of 61 years; 2 sons Jack (Tracey) and David (Wendy), all of Thunder Bay; grandchildren: Jeff (Sarah), Jon, Jenifer (Jeff Wright) and Kaylee; 4 great grandchildren: Spencer, Emerson, Bryar and Emma; sister Lena Waske of B.C., and niece and nephew Barbara and Ken Waske. She was predeceased by her parents and brother Edwin Anderson. According to Lil‘s wishes, cremation has taken place with private interment in Riverside Cemetery. SPENCE, Hilda Alberta - Aged 91 years of St. Catharines, Ontario, passed away on Monday, September 8, 2008, at Henley House, a long term care home in St. Catharines. Hilda was born September 9, 1916 in Chatham, Ontario. She grew up there and was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was united in marriage to Charles George Spence on June 27, 1942. Hilda was preceded in death by her husband Charles George Spence on March 9, 2007. George and Hilda moved to Valleyfield, Quebec where George worked as an accountant for Montreal Cotton Textile Mill. In 1953, they moved to Ottawa where George began a career with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, eventually becoming Comptroller and finally Vice President of Finance. Hilda, during this time and throughout their marriage was a wonderful supportive wife for George and a great mother to their three active children. While in Ottawa, they started the Alta Vista Baptist Church where Hilda was active in Sunday School, women's ministries and reached out to many people in the community. They retired in 1976 and traveled the world for the Fellowship of Evangelical Baptist Foreign Missions Board living in Columbia and Bangladesh. They worked in Guiana and the Ivory Coast with Canadian Executives Serving Overseas. Their 65 years of marriage inspired us all and we rejoice that they are reunited in eternity with their Saviour! George and Hilda are survived by Carl and Connie Spence, Stewart and Judy Spence, Ruth and Glen Englram; four grandchildren, Charles, Michael, Shannon and Jodi; as well as four great grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the VINELAND CHAPEL of the TALLMAN FUNERAL HOMES, 3277 King St., on Wednesday, September 10th beginning at 10:30 a.m. The Funeral Service will follow in the Chapel at 11 a.m. and then a reception will be held in the Tallman Fireside Room.
