PORTER, NORMAN KENNETH Mr. Norman Kenneth Porter, husband of Rita (Ward) Porter of 365 Grand Lake Road, passed away Wednesday, August 27, 2008, at Miramichi Senior Citizens Home, at the age of 74. Born in Doaktown NB, he was the son of the late Charles & Anne Marie (Storey) Porter. He was a truck driver and a woods worker. He was a member of United Pentecostal Church. Besides his wife Rita, he was survived by two daughters; Trudy Porter at home and April Carroll (Ron) of Black River NB one brother; Perry (Joan); several sister-in-laws; three grandchildren; Neil, Brock and Jared; nieces & nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by one infant son Kenneth, three brothers; Gary, Bobbie and Charles Jr.; one sister; Elva Carroll. Mr. Norman Kenneth Porter will be resting at Doaktown United Pentecostal Church, with visitation on Thursday evening from 7-9 and Friday 2-4 & 7-9. The Funeral Service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. from Doaktown United Pentecostal Church, with Pastor Russell Morehouse officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. MITCHELL, DOROTHY - Dorothy Mitchell of Quispamsis passed on Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born 1926 to the late Peter and Blanche Langille. Dorothy worked for the Hartt Shoe Factory in Fredericton and for Fowler's Jewelry for many years. Devoted mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother, Dorothy was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Royal Canadian Legion Branch #69, Eastern Star and Knights of Pythias. She enjoyed cooking, watching sports and spending time with family and especially her dear friends from the Kings Valley Manor. She is survived by her son David Mitchell (Nancy) of Wickham; daughter Sandra Ogden (Robert) of Kentville, NS; brother Harold Langille (Gayle) of Barrie, ON; grandchildren Kelli, Jonathan, Ray, Jeffrey, Tim and Shelley; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and many friends. A celebration of life will be held from the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel, 230 Westmorland Rd. MERSEREAU, KAREN ANN - The passing of Karen Ann Mersereau of New Bandon, NB, wife of George Mersereau, occurred on August 28, 2008 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on May 29, 1956 in New Bandon, NB, she was the daughter of Charles and Luella (O'Donnell) Howe. Karen was a member of McNamee Pentecostal Assembly. She was a medical secretary. Karen shared her gift of music ministry with her church, community and in the group "Heaven Bound and Friends". Besides her husband, Karen is survived by her daughters, Carrie Jo MacKenzie (Jason) of Burlington, ON and Katie Jo Duplessis (Adam) of Ottawa, ON; granddaughter, Shaelah Skye MacKenzie; brothers, Roger Howe (Carla) of New Bandon, NB and Rev. Kevin Howe (Connie) of Minto, NB; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Lawrence "Lornie" W. Little Lawrence "Lornie" W. Little, 88, of Clairville, with his family at his side, passed away peacefully at The Moncton Hospital on Wednesday, August 27, 2008. Born in Clairville, he was the son of the late William and Margaret (Scott) Little. Prior to his retirement as a school bus driver, Lornie hauled wood, coal, gravel and ran a small family farm. He loved teasing children and making everyone laugh. A strong giant with a gentle heart. He was a member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Clairville, a Church Elder, member of the Manse Committee and a volunteer for the Cemetery. FRANKLIN, Edward Merle (Veteran W.W. 2 RCAF) Peacefully at the Haldimand War Memorial Hospital Dunnville, on Friday, August 22, 2008 in his 94th year. Predeceased by his wife Dorothy (Flatt) for over 60 years in 2005. Our Dad and Poppa leaves to mourn his children David (Maureen), Martha (Jim), Andrew all of Dunnville, and Jane (Lynn) of Calgary. Loving poppa of Matthew, Jonathan, Adam, Melissa, Katherine and great grandfather of Evan, Justin, Sophia and Oliver. Greatly missed by his extended Franklin and Flatt families. Merle was a life long member of First Baptist Church. He was an avid historian and collector and was known for his wonderful wood carvings. Dad spent his life working in the Dunnville area first at John S. Brooks and then for the Haldimand County School Board. KNOL, Arie - At the Haldimand War Memorial Hospital, Dunnville on Wednesday, August 20, 2008 in his 90th year. Arie Knol beloved husband of Annie (DeBoer) Knol. Predeceased by his brothers, Rein (Holland) Klaas (Dunnville) and by his daughter Elisabeth (Hawaii). Arie is survived by his daughter Gerda Smith (Jim) and their children Sabrina (Marcel) Morgenstern of Thorold, Alexander Smith of Dunnville, sons Mathys (Lillian) of Brantford and Reinout (Maria) and their children Brittany and Jordan of Fonthill. Arie was a passionate husband, father and grandfather. He was a lover of natural beauty within which he claimed his soul soared. With determination he provided a home for his family in Canada and liked nothing better than to admire his property all of which he had formed through his and Annie's hard work. He was an optimist and able to keep a positive attitude even through past illness. A Christmas man delighting and almost unable to keep a secret of the gifts he was going to give to members of his family. He loved the times that family gathered together and his table was complete. MACNALLY, Fergus Joseph Anthony - Suddenly passed away after a lengthy battle with Multiple Sclerosis, on Tuesday, August 26, 2008, at West Lincoln Memorial Hospital, in his 65th year. Loving and devoted father to Ruth (Josh) and Alan. Proud and loving grandfather to Thomas. Dear brother of Desmond, Kevin, Patrick (Vanessa) and Maura (Dick) Moore. Good friend to Wilma. Fergus will be missed by his nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Aeneas and Rita MacNally, his sister Eire (2006) and his brother Gabe (2008). Fergus was an intelligent gentleman who earned several Degrees from York University and a Law Degree from the University of Toronto. He spent the past several years at Deer Park Villa in Grimsby, where he was lovingly cared for by the staff and became good friends with many. Fergus struggled, but he dealt with his illness with dignity, faith and humour. He will be missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him. Passed away at the West Island Palliative Care Centre on Wednesday, August 29 at the age of 58 years. Ernie Butler leaves to mourn his beloved companion. Marie Riopel as well as his children Silver, Ryan and Shannon, his brothers William, Michael (Cynthia) and John (Lila) and his sister Rosemary (Leo), his niece Shannon and his nephews Shaun, Guilhem, Sean, Patrick, Jason and James. Ernie spent his childhood summers at Camp Kinkora where he later served as the Waterfront director. A graduate of McGill University, he was the first to bring stand-up comedy to Montreal. Founder of Ernie Butler's Comedy Nest, he did "Comedy With A Cause", charity work and was the host of the CJAD's Comedy Hour. Ernie will be remembered by many as a wonderful friend and father and for being such a great spirit. Special thanks to the nursing staff at the Jewish General Hospital, especially Robin and Rebecca. DOAK, Dorothy (nee Macfadden). "Together forever" in a marriage of unceasing love, "Dotte" left Stuart after 67 years, August 24. Born to cherished parents, then tragically orphaned at 8, she was raised by her Uncle Sherm (with C.P. Rail) and Aunt Etta; Life in the Maine wilderness crystallized her love of wild places. All who encountered Dotte's empathetic mind, indomitable spirit and charity, will remember her as truly special. With Stuart, Dotte supported many charities, such as restoring eyesight in India and sponsoring orphans. After Acadia, marrying Stuart during WWII, in Arvida, and as accomplished teacher, skier, and artist, she also happily raised two sons in Beauharnois, Toronto, Shawinigan, Arvida, retiring in her 36th home. Dotte's campaigning inspired Baie D'Urfe to be first to ban all pesticides. She is adoringly remembered by Stuart, sons John and Robin, sister Nen, brother Ian, and nieces Eleanor, Margie; Douglas, John-Lawrence; Joni, Bethy, David and Bryson; and Anna-Jean, Donny, Ronny, Patsy and Betsy. DUNCAN, Donald "Don" James April 8, 1936 - August 26, 2008 With great sadness on August 26, Don passed away at the age of 72 years. Don is survived by his wife Arlene, daughter Barb (Carlo) Jensen, daughter Cathy (Mike) Baker and two grandchildren Derek and Danielle. Don was predeceased by his brother Eddie, and mother Myrl. FERSTER, Margaret Mary (Peggy) May 12, 1925 - August 27, 2008 Peggy Ferster died peacefully August 27, 2008, in the arms of her husband and surrounded by her loving family. Peggy was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, the eldest daughter of Charles and Margaret O'Neill. The family immigrated to Canada prior to WWII and settled in Montreal. It was there Peggy met Jim, her husband to be, while he was on leave from the Canadian Navy. It was mutual love at first sight and they were married a year later. At the end of the war they settled in Calgary, Jim's hometown, and a city Peggy adopted as her own. Peggy was a dedicated homemaker and her life was devoted to the welfare and well being of her family. She was adored by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Left to mourn are Jim, her husband of sixty-five years and her four children, Dianna Smith (Gerald Porter), Nanton, Jim Jr. (Chris), Brisbane, Australia, Nancy Lou Morela (Carl), Calgary, and Terry (Randi), Red Deer. Peggy is also survived by her loving brother Charles O'Neill (Gracia), Banning, California and her most dearest cousin Margaret Simpson, Antrim, Northern Ireland. She leaves eleven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves her beloved and most treasured Sheltie "Highland Belle". After a debilitating injury Peggy battled much physical pain for the past ten years but always maintained a positive and pleasant outlook. She kept active until April of this year when breast cancer, bone cancer and lung cancer took its dreadful toll. The family would like to thank Doctors and Staff at the Tom Baker Cancer Clinic for their care, with special thanks to Sharon Pahl, her home care nurse whose compassionate care thrice weekly and later daily visits helped Peggy immensely. Also our gratitude to Marlette Reed, Agape Manor chaplain, Father Raul Ranola and Father Silvano DeSouza of Corpus Christi Catholic Parish for their spiritual support. Peggy spent her last few weeks at the Agape Manor Hospice and the family extends their thanks and appreciation for the gentle care provided by the wonderful nurses and attendants with special thanks to Denise, Marta, Rhoda, Linda, Leo, Pauline, Robin, Karen, Sandra, Janet, Pat, Susanna, Alta, Elaine and so many others. You are truly earthbound angels. MITCHELL, William Gordon After a courageous battle with cancer, William (Bill) Gordon Mitchell passed away peacefully on Friday, August 22, 2008 at the Southwood Care Centre in Calgary, AB. Born in Halifax, N.S. on August 23, 1924, Bill was the eldest of three children. He is survived by his loving wife Margaret and sister, Shirley Mitchell of Victoria, B.C. Beloved father and grandfather to daughter Cassandra Holly (Steve Beauchamp), and grandson Nathan, twins Catherine Mitchell and Stuart Mitchell (Jill) and grandsons Gordon and Alex, son Neil Mitchell all of Calgary, AB and stepchildren Lynda Croll-Cameron and John Bland of Vancouver, B.C. Bill is predeceased by his eldest and beloved daughter Wilma; first love and wife of thirty-seven years Mary and brother John Mitchell (Gladys) of Nanaimo, B.C. Bill was a WWII Veteran, after serving as a tank driver with the Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry, Bill earned a BComm from UBC in 1950. He moved to Calgary in 1952 and worked for twenty-nine years as a Chartered Accountant for Western Decalta and Pembina Resources. We will most remember Bill for his dry English wit, beautiful gentle manner and steady presence through the ups and downs with never a complaint to be heard. His passion was the great outdoors, he was an avid x-country skier and hiker; he was a member of the Southland Leisure Centre Seniors Hiking Club and remained active with them until this past year. Along with his family and friends, St. Peter's Anglican Church was an integral part of Bill's life and he was proud to serve alongside his fellow parishioners many of whom he considered dear friends and to whom he was most grateful for the hours of assistance generously given to him and his family over the past year. YOUNG, Hilda May March 12, 1914 - August 27, 2008 Mum passed away in Calgary at the Rockyview Hospital on August 27, surrounded by her family. Hilda was born in Maymont, SK but moved to Saskatoon at an early age. In 1936, she married Al and together they shared sixty wonderful, love-filled years. After Al's passing, Hilda relocated to Calgary to be closer to family. Mum's greatest passion was her love for family and friends; and she worked hard throughout her life to maintain these close relationships. Hilda loved picnics, BBQs, bargain-shopping, anything pink and Square Dancing. Left to cherish her memory is her only daughter, Dianne; her son-in-law, Wayne Keedwell; her grandsons, Scott (Andrea) and Todd; and her great-grandson, Rowan. Also mourning her passing is her brother, Cec and his wife Margie of Regina and many nieces and nephews. Mum enjoyed her last years at Staywell Manor and wishes to thank all the staff for their exceptional care. The family would also like to express their deep appreciation to the doctors and staff, Unit 73, Rockyview Hospital, for their empathy and tender care.
