SASS, Richard, Stephen (Rick) - passed away suddenly on Sunday, August 24th. Survived by his mother Patricia (Don) Parker, brother Paul Sass, Calgary Alberta, and sister Rebecca Spicer (Chatham), Step- brother to Tim (Marg) Parker, Blenheim, Larry (Gloria) Parker, Cedar Springs, Dennis Parker, Hagar, Don Paul Parker, Chatham, and step-sister Pam (Tom) Innes, Petawawa. Uncle to Paul (Jeni) Spicer, Chatham, Nathan Spicer, London, and Heather (Jake) Birch, Niagara Falls. Great Uncle to Wilson, Clara, Ella, Daisy Birch and Leah Spicer. Rick will also be fondly missed by close family friends, Della and Dave Roberts. Rick is predeceased by his father Stephen Sass. Rick spent many years riding the roads of Southwestern Ontario as a trucker. His love of books and collecting old tractors kept him busy when not out on the road. HUTSON, Elsie (nee Riddell) - The family announces with sadness the passing of their dear mother and grandmother in North Bay on Wednesday, August 27th, 2008 at Casellholme Home for the Aged at the age of 87 with her family by her side. Elsie was predeceased by her loving husband Frederick (2002), her parents John and Elizabeth Riddell and her brothers: William (wife Margaret) and Johnny (wife May) all of England. She is survived by her loving daughter Valerie and her husband Frank Novisku, her precious granddaughter Sara, (husband Ryan) Foxcraft and the love of her life her great grandsons: Morgan and Lucan. She will be missed by family friends Barbara and David Johnson and their family. Elsie was born on March 31st, 1921 in Northumberland England and came to Canada as an English warbride in 1946. At Elsie's request there will be no visitation or funeral. A cremation took place at the Forest Lawn Crematorium and a private family service to take place at a later date. Claffey, John Donald "Jack" August 4, 1938 - August 26, 2008 of Fort Qu’ Appelle, SK passed away at the age of 70 years. Jack was predeceased by his parents Arva and Josie Claffey; son Russell Claffey; brother Ronald Claffey; sister Joan Eskiw; sister Rita Jensen; brother Terry Claffey; and brother in law Garth Krauss. Jack (and his first wife Dianne) raised their family in the same area, where he also began his 30 plus years in the road construction business. Jack worked for Wellings Construction. Jack later relocated to Regina where he eventually retired. Jack and Joan were married on December 24, 1999 at their home in Fort Qu’Appelle. Jack enjoyed gardening, bird watching, CFL games and his beloved cat Velvet. Jack recently celebrated 29 years of sobriety and commitment to the Alcoholics Anonymous Program. He deeply enjoyed the companionship he found there. A CELEBRATION OF JACK’S LIFE was held at Regina Funeral Home, Hwy #1 East, Regina, SK on Friday, August 29, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. INTERMENT and lunch to follow. BROWN, Eileen The family of Eileen Brown sadly announce her passing on August 26, 2008. She was predeceased by her husband Jim in 2003, and is lovingly remembered by her sons Russ (Ellen) and Malcolm and her adored grandchildren, Kerri (Pat), Jason, Chris (Tara) and Ritchie (Krista) and great-grandchildren Lauren, Ally, Graeme and Lily. KACZOWKA, Fiona E.J. (nee Currie) July 29, 1957 - August 26, 2008 It is with heavy hearts that the family of Fiona Kaczowka of Calgary announces her peaceful passing on August 26, 2008 at the Sarcee Hospice at the age of 51. Fiona grew-up with a love for horses, cars and travel. After earning degrees from Edinburgh and Sterling Universities, Fiona immigrated to Canada in 1982 to work as a Chartered Accountant with the Provincial Auditors of Saskatchewan. In 1985 she married Rick and moved to Nipawin, Saskatchewan working for the office of Armstrong and Neumann and starting her family. In 1989, her young family settled in Calgary, to work in her own private practice and with the firm of Robert Campbell C.A. She enjoyed skiing, gardening, reading, curling, traveling, as well as watching and supporting her daughters. With her passing she leaves behind her loving husband Rick, daughters Caitlin and Adelle; her brother David (Pat) Currie; mother-in-law Regina, brothers-in-law Mike (Gail) and Phil Kaczowka and cousins Helen (Marty) Dahl, Lance (Fern) Dyer and Henri (Laura) Golczyk. Also mourning her loss are numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends throughout Canada and Scotland. Born in St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland. Alvin Kaufman, of Hanover, passed away at Hanover and District Hospital, Hanover, on Saturday, August 23, 2008. He was 69. Born in Hanover, son of the late Henry and Grace (McCaslin) Kaufman. Al was a paramedic and manager of Ambulance Services until retiring and was a director with St. John Ambulance. Survived by wife Joan (nee Klages) Kaufman, sons Doug (Betty) Kaufman of Owen Sound, Jeffrey (Susanne) Kaufman of Wellesley, daughter Shelley (Paul) McCallum of Shallow Lake, grandchildren Megan and Mitchell Kaufman, Kayley and Alexander Kaufman, Lauren, Cameron and Courtney McCallum. Also survived by brother Karl (Judy) Kaufman of Waterloo and sister-in-law Marlene Kaufman of Hanover. Predeceased by brothers Glenn and Ken. Visitation was held at Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover on Monday 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A funeral service was held on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at 11 am at St. Matthew's Ev. Lutheran Church, Hanover. Rev. John Polacok officiated. Interment in Hanover Cemetery. Pallbearers were Robert Schlorff, Al Morrow, Ron Kaufman, Doug Klages, Murray Klages and Orval Kaufman. CHALMERS, Donna Joyce 16 juillet 1941 - 3 juin 2008 With her children by her side in the early morning hours of June 3, 2008, our beloved mother Donna, quietly took her last breath No matter what life sent her way, Mom responded with humor, dignity, and acceptance and even in her final weeks, her spirit remained strong and true. Mom faced many challenges in life, but congestive heart failure and metastatic lung cancer were simply too large for her to conquer. Growing up, our home was always filled with various kids and animals, some ours, some not. Stray kids, animals, relatives, and friends could always count on Mom to share what little she had. She was generous to a fault and often went without to provide for someone she thought was needier than she was. Mom would be honored if a donation was made in her name to an organization which supports those less fortunate, in memory of her. Her children, Dean, Todd, Craig, and Kim would like to extend their sincere appreciation to all those who made Mom’s life so special. McKenzie, Mom’s only grandchild, provided his own form of comfort in a stuffed dog much like her own dog Casey that kept her company until the very end. Her sister Dolores and her brothers Willard and Dale, along with their families all hold special places in our hearts. Millie, Mom’s best friend, has been a rock for us during this difficult time and longtime neighbor Linda’s gentle presence has given comfort. Family friends have kept us strong and we thank you for sharing your lives with Mom. Her family, friends, and pets all miss her. Mary Ross 1935-2008 Mary C. (Kemi) Ross of Riverview, formerly of Lewisville, was called home to be with her husband on Thursday, August 28, 2008 surrounded by her loving family. Born on September 7, 1935, in Haliburton PE, she was the daughter of the late Melvin and Geraldine (Corcoran) MacGregor. Mary was a retired school teacher with over 35 years of service to her community. She will be remembered as a caring grandmother and great-grandmother, a loving mother and cherished friend by her daughters; Geraldine (Geri) Darville of Halifax, Beverly Ross, Jacqueline Ross (Roy Hawkes) both of Moncton, Shannon Gauvin (Mike) of Riverview, with whom she resided, son Doug Ross of Ontario, two brothers; Robert MacGregor of Burton, PE and Frank MacGregor (Elaine) of Sherbrooke, PQ. She is also survived by grandchildren; Natalie, Kristopher, Alex, Nathan, Holly Dawn, Stephen, Bree-Anne and Patrick and great-grandchildren; Logan and Lyndsey. She was predeceased by her husband James Douglas Ross, sister June Howard, an infant brother and son-in-law Robert Darville. BEROFE, Harry WWII Veteran June 15, 1916 - June 1, 2008 It is with the utmost sadness that the family of Harry Berofe announces his passing on June 1, 2008 at the age of 91 years. Son of James and Rebecca Berofe, predeceased by his beloved wife Doris Kizell (1996), devoted companion and best friend of Doris Crawford, brother of Ruth (Louis Bergman), Toronto. Dearest father of David (Celeste Mercier), Elgin, and Stephen (Janie Haig) Kingston. Loving grandfather to Devon Berofe, Winnipeg. Harry was also a wonderful uncle to Karen, Mindy and Jeffrey Kizell, Richard, Robert and Naomi Kizell and Fred, Therese and Wendy Bergman and Connie, Louis and Marilyn Florence, and "good buddy" to Sammy, the cat. Born June 15, 1916, Harry was a WWII RCAF veteran and recipient of several medals in conjunction with his overseas service in Africa and Italy. He was also a Freemason, a long time member of the B'nai Brith, the Parr Christie Singers, as well as a supporter of many charities. Harry was a friend to all who knew him during his diverse and colourful career, which began with his father's store in Bracebridge and continued in Kingston with Marilyn's Ladies Wear on Princess Street, Doreta Apparel Shop at the Kingston Centre and Sears at both Kingston locations. His joyful view of life permeated all he did and he shared this enthusiasm with co-workers, his family, his friends and in his constant support of and pride in being Canadian. His passing will leave an infinite emptiness in our lives, and we all hope his journey "ad astra" will be filled with love and peace. Harry's funeral will take place on Tuesday, June 3 at 2 p.m. at the Beth Israel Congregation, 116 Centre Street, Kingston. Interment will take place at Beth Israel Cemetery on Sydenham Road, followed by a reception and service at the home of Richard Kizell, 51 Glencoe Crescent, Kingston. Everyone is welcome. Donna Maureen Kennedy May 19, 1945 - August 27, 2008 Funeral arrangements by H.W. Wallace Cremation and Burial Centre Donna was born in Victoria May 19th, 1945 at St. Joseph's Hospital . Donna was diagnosed with cancer in May 2007 , her journey for most would never have been obvious, she was positive, up beat and continued life as she had always lived it. The past few weeks the cancer took over and finally on Tuesday August 27th Donna left us to join the rest of her family in a better place. Donna grew up in the Western Communities with a large family and many friends. Donna attended Metchosin Elementary School and Elizabeth Fisher (Belmont) High School. Donna started her family very young and was very proud that many years later she returned to school and obtained her grade 12. Donna was well known for organizing family events and parties. You always knew that when Donna said, “we’re having a small get together” that it was a mandatory performance and “little” was at least 20-30 people. Donna was creative with these events, there were prizes for everyone, decorations that we made by her and Rob and special little twists to make the event fun. Donna was always thinking of others including her family; she loved to have all of her children and grandchildren around her. When her sister Terry passed away she with great willingness added Sophie and Clara to her list of grandchildren. Donna and Rob spent 26 loving years together and were friends long before that. Her children Tina (Ian), Troy (Neala), Clint (Kathy), Tyler (Melissa) are going to miss her very much but each one of them will hold the many lessons and words of advice their mother and father have given to them. Parties and get togethers at the house always included the children, Donna loved to hear the laughter of the children and the joy on their faces when mama/grandma gave them prizes or had something special for them to do. Kris, Ashley, Bradley, Lauren, Logan, Connor, Taewyn, Mhina, Sophie and Clara will miss her but will always have lots of fun stories and memories in their hearts…. Children were Donna’s little heart beats… as well as Donna's 4 legged heartbeats Buddy and Toby. The family would like to thank the Victoria and Vancouver BC Cancer Clinics, and special thanks to Seema Bhullar RN and the staff on 3 Royal. A Celebration of Donna’s life will be held at St. Mary’s Anglican Church, 4125 Metchosin Road, on Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. A reception will follow in the Church Hall.

MUNROE, Donald John "Papa" 2 juin 1921 - 4 juin 2008 - June 2, 1921 - June 4, 2008. It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Papa after a brief illness. He was taken peacefully away from us on June 4, 2008, two days after his 87th birthday in QEII Health Sciences Centre in Halifax. Dad went to sea at 16 with his father, Captain Ralph Munroe and later joined the navy. In the late 1940's while recuperating at the Sanatorium in Kentville, he took a radio course that set him up with a career with radio and TV that would last his whole life. He travelled the Eastern Shore of Nova Scotia with his good friend George Nader in the Mobile Radio truck fixing TV's and having a wonderful time. Later, he worked for various TV repair shops in Halifax until he opened his own shop in Lower Sackville, Munroe's TV Sales and Service. His passion was collecting antique radios which he lovingly restored to their former glory. Dad was the last member of his immediate family. He was predeceased by his parents, Capt. Ralph Munroe, mother, Nettie (Helpard) and stepmother, Cora. He was also predeceased by his beloved wife, Anna E., on February 26, 2003, and son Graham F., on February 15, 2003. He is survived by his sons Vaughn (Cheryl), Harold (Janet), Raymond (Kathy); daughters Deborah (Bob), Lynne (Rene), Karen and partner Chris and Sandra. Left behind to grieve his loss is his loving companion and best friend, Bobbi, as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family send our sincere thanks to Dr. Charlebois and staff at 8.4 QEII for their compassion and care they showed our Dad during his brief illness. DAMIEN JON HORTON Wednesday, August 27, 2008 Damien Jon Horton of International Falls, Mn. died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008 in Littlefork, Mn. He was 26 years of age. Damien was born April 13, 1982 in International Falls, Mn. to Geraldine and Vernon Horton. Damien worked as a mechanic for Northern Timberline Equipment company. He was also a student at the Rainy River Community College and was additionally enrolled in the Bemidji Northwest Technical College. In his spare time he enjoyed working on trucks and cars, playing guitar, singing and listening to music, camping, art, spending time with family and friends, cooking, four-wheeling and painting. He loved hanging out on the Linford Road with Ralph Olson and Brad Hazelton. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Jerry Pullar Sr.; great grandparents, Dorothy & Ervin Pullar & Robert and Clarice MaClanathan; and his aunt, Sally Kerry. Damien is survived and will be missed by his parents Geraldine and Vernon Horton; grandmother, Betty Pullar, beloved significant other and future wife, Breezy Johnson; brothers, Christopher Horton, Dustin Horton, Vernon Horton Jr. and Anthony Morriseau along with numerous step-brothers; sisters Dana Horton and Daphne Horton, Lanny and Shelley Johnson, and numerous aunts, uncle, and cousins. McMILLAN, Ruth Violet (nee Thew) 1922 - 2008 Deep peace of the Running Wave to you Deep peace of the Flowing Air to you Deep peace of the Quiet Earth to you Deep peace of the Shining Stars to you Ruth ended her earthly journey peacefully in her sleep early in the morning of August 27, 2008. She is survived by her son, Bill McMillan, her daughter, Donna McKinnon, and four grandchildren: James and Patrick McKinnon, and Aimee and Brendan McMillan. She had nine siblings and is now survived by four sisters: Kaye Mullen, June Byatt, Lois Adam and Amy Poithier. Ruth was born in Saskatchewan, and raised her family in Calgary. She and her husband Boyd retired to the Shuswap, then later to Vernon, B.C. She lived her final years in Comox, B.C. In the 1970s, she worked with Northern Engineering Ltd. on the Mackenzie Valley pipeline. Somewhere out there are many round dancers that she had a twirl with in the 1980s. We wish to express our gratitude to her relatives, friends and neighbours who supported Ruth through good times and difficult times. We are grateful to Dr. Edward Howard who oversaw her care in her last years. There will be no Funeral, but it is our intention to hold a gathering to celebrate Ruth and those who knew her later this year. DOWSON, Bernie 1941 - 2008 Bernie passed away after a short battle with Cancer on August 25, 2008. He was the beloved husband of Carol and is survived by two children, Heather and Stacey and three grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters, one brother and several nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. Bernie met all adversity with courage and an overcoming attitude. She was the daughter of the late Roy and Blanche (Cooke) Burtt. Jean is survived by her daughter, Sherrie (Ronald) Evans and her grandchildren, Lori (Ray) Schriver, Brent (Charlotte) Evans, Sherrie Lee (Edward) Evans; great grandchildren, Robin, Evan and Andrew Schriver; sister, Myrtle Simms; brother, Ralph (Joyce) Burtt; sister-in-law, Madelon Seymour; nieces and nephews. Jean was employed at the Gaiety Theatre for 25 years and was a member of Grace Memorial Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir and a Sunday School teacher for many years.
