RIDDELL, Patricia On Saturday June 21, 2008, surviving 7+ years of cancer, Pat passed away with her daughters at her side. Beloved wife and best friend to Ken Riddell (deceased 2003) and former wife of Ed Prudhomme (deceased 1975). Very proud mother of twin daughters, Kelly Prudhomme and Tammy Leblanc (Dwain). BRIGGS, Donald (Don) Smith September 17, 1925 - June 17, 2008 Donald Smith Briggs of Calgary, passed away on Tuesday, June 17, 2008 at the age of 82 years. Don was born in Three Hills, AB. He was employed at Ace Construction for forty-five years. Following his retirement Don enjoyed building and flying model airplanes as well as travelling. Don is remembered by his daughter and son-in-law Sherry and Dan Beaudet and three grandchildren Lisa, Marc and Andrea. He is also survived by four sisters Olive, Fay, Inez and Irene; four brothers-in-law Glen, Jack, Pat and Eddy and two sisters-in-law Mae and Peggy; as well as his special friend "Smiley". Don was predeceased by his wife June on December 26, 2004 and his sister Edith. MUNRO, Lorne Lorne Munro was born on September 26, 1950 in Edmonton, and passed away suddenly at home in Calgary on June 19, 2008. Lorne was the loving husband and best friend of Joan Green, stepfather of Leah and Hailley, and much loved Papa to Max, Bailey and Cassidy. He was greatly loved and will be sorely missed by his parents, David and Muriel Munro, and brother Neil (Evonne), and nephew Jason (Melanie). He will also be missed by his Aunt Audrey Swab, Uncle James Wentworth and is survived by many cousins. He was dear to his mother-in-law, Violet Ward and Joan's siblings Bonnie (Murray), Patrick (Michelle) and Diana, and nieces and nephews Tyler, Keir (Thai Lai), Trevor (Raegen), Lia, Emily and Robert, Chelsey and Cass. Lorne graduated in 1974 from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Education. He retired in 2006 from a thirty-two year career teaching for the Calgary Board of Education, where he devoted his energy to two schools: Fred Seymour and McKenzie Lake. He was the type of teacher who left an impact on the lives of his students; teaching with creativity, passion and humour. Lorne was fortunate to have a career from which he derived immense joy and satisfaction. He loved and remembered every student, and maintained contact with many. He took great pride in their accomplishments and was thrilled to hear from them. Lorne touched the hearts of every colleague with whom he worked. After retirement, he often commented on how he missed the relationships. Even after retirement, Lorne volunteered at Radisson Park School where Joan is principal. He also volunteered for the Calgary Reads Book Sale and as a soccer coach for his best little buddy Max. Lorne loved life, traveling, all sports, including playing a bad game of golf (with great enthusiasm), and Spanky. Summer highlights included driving his 1966 yellow convertible Corvette, music from the sixties blaring, over the Going to the Sun Highway on his way to Montana! Lorne's unexpected, early death has left a huge void in the lives of those who loved him. We will cherish his memories through all of our favourite "Lorne stories". I will always love you baby. CONBOY, Donald Franklin Donald F. Conboy, passed away on June 19, 2008, at the Ottawa Civic Hospital, after a brief illness, in his 62nd year. Dear eldest son of Dencie Conboy (nee Tryon), and the late Donald A. Conboy. Beloved husband of Janet E. Conboy (nee Crampton). Loved father of Steven (Carmen) of Santiago, Chile, and Michael of Peterborough. Loving brother to Connie (Neil) Fennell, and Betty Conboy of Perth, ON; Earl (Patti) Conboy, Kingston. Donald was predeceased by his brother Jim in 2006. Much loved son-in-law to Pat Crampton and the late John C. Crampton. Cherished brother-in-law to Muriel (Bruce) Ballantyne of Kanata; Karen (Raed) Inayeh of Middleville, and George (Melanie) Crampton of Almonte. Loving uncle to Melissa Fennell, Mark (Philina) Conboy, Laura Conboy, Neil, Ian and Kevin Ballantyne, Dan and Lailah Inayeh and Morgan (Luc) Biggs, and Dana, Maggie and Avery Crampton. Donald, an avid athlete, who loved track and field as a youth, kept himself in tip-top shape throughout his life by working out and running. Donald worked for over 25 years with the Public Works of Perth, as a water distribution technician, where he received an honourary plaque for his many years of dedication. Donald loved "roughing it" in the outdoors, and he became quite adept at crossbow hunting, but he truly loved the beauty of Ontario wildlife, and would usually be seen canoeing on the Tay River. One of Donalds biggest pleasures was building bluebird houses on his property. The reintroduction of bluebirds became his passion. Donald was a kind, quiet man who loved his wife, and his boys dearly. He will be sadly missed by family, friends, and colleagues and forever missed by all who had the pleasure to know him. Visitation for Donald will take place at the O'Dacre Family Funeral Home, 15 Victoria Street, Perth, on Wednesday, June 25, 2008, from 2 to 4 p.m. and again from 7 to 9 p.m. There will be a Memorial Service for Donald on Thursday, June 26, 2008, at 11:00 AM in the Chapel, followed immediately by a reception. BOURGEOIS, MARY LOU - The death of Mary Lou (Matthews) Bourgeois, of Saint John, NB, wife of the late Robert Bourgeois, occurred on Sunday, June 22, 2008 at Rocmaura Nursing Home. Born in Saint John, she was the daughter of the late John Joseph and Mary (Glennie) Matthews. A graduate of St. Vincents High School and Mount Carmel Academy, she was a secretary for 20 years with the NB Power Commission. She was a member of St. Rose CWL, The Right To Life, Propogation of the Faith, the Sacred Heart League, St Anthony's Guild and volunteered with the Heart and Stroke Foundation for over 15 years. Mary Lou is survived by her son, Robert and his wife Stacy Cross-Bourgeois of Saint John and two dear grandsons, Konnor and Devon; cousins Alice Ann Monroe, Peter and Raymond Glennie of Saint John and Greg Glennie of Blacks Harbour. CLANCY, Sister Mary Frances R.H.S.J. - Sister Frances Clancy, R.H.S.J. died peacefully at St. Joseph Regional House in Amherstview, Ontario on June 21, 2008. Sister was 94 years of age of which 73 years were spent in Religious Life. Sister Clancy was born in Harrison's Corners in Stormont County, Ontario, the daughter of Mary Ann Lawson and Donald John Clancy. Sister is predeceased by her parents, her brothers John Francis, John Joseph Patrick, Clement Alexander, Aloysius, Leo Bernard and Donald Joseph, and her sisters Mary Margaret, Mary Eileen (Wheeler), Anna Marie, and Mary Rita (Julien). Sister Clancy is survived by many loving nieces and nephews. PRETTIE, Laura Mabel (nee Foot) 2008-06-23 Peacefully at Belmont House, Toronto on Friday, June 20, 2008 after a long fulfilling life. Born in Vancouver in 1912, she met her future husband and moved to Thunder Bay, Ontario where they lived and raised a family. Laura and her husband Bob were true partners as they worked hard together to establish a successful wood preserving business while also raising two daughters. Laura moved to Toronto in 2000 to be near her family. Laura‘s charitable and community interests were many. In her early days, she was active in the Auxiliary of St John‘s Anglican Church, the Children‘s Aid Society and the Annual Christmas Hamper Fund. She was also a great adventurer, keen sailor and ice-boater. Laura was predeceased by her devoted husband Robert James Prettie and by her much loved daughter Susan Crerar in March of 2003. She is survived by her elder daughter, Audrey (the late Vere) Mason of Toronto. Well loved Noni to Kelly (James) Kirkland, and their children Ben and Megan, Lauren (Mark) Linton their children Samantha and Alexandra, Steven (Lynne) Crerar and their children Harrison, Alexander and Caelan, Rob (Kerry) Neish and their children Robin and Oliver, Andrew Crerar, and Geoff Neish. Her grandchildren have wonderful memories of Nonie‘s sense of adventure and fun during summers spent at Lambert Island, in Lake Superior. Laura‘s family wish to express their gratitude to the professional and caring staff at Belmont House who made her feel at home, and a very special thank you to Adelina Devera, Eileen Tobin and Tina Robezniekes. PANULA, Anna 2008-06-23 Michael and Wendell Panula are profoundly sad to announce the passing of their mother, Anna Panula on Saturday, June 21, 2008. Anna was born in Hungary on October 18, 1914 and moved to England prior to WWII. While in England she met a dashing young Canadian soldier, Olavi Panula. From this union with Olavi came two sons Michael and Wendell. Anna’s life was dedicated to the well being of her sons. At the end of the war, Anna joined Olavi in Port Arthur, Ontario. She worked as a domestic and later as a custodian with the school board until her retirement. Anna enjoyed a simple life of Sunday Mass on television, working in her garden and feeding the birds. Anna is survived by sons Michael of Toronto, and Wendell (Cindy) of Thunder Bay, grandson Steven of London, sister Mary of Tillsonburg as well as by nieces and other relatives. She was predeceased by her husband Olavi, two brothers in Hungary and her parents. Cremation has taken place. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2008 when family and friends will gather in St. Andrew’s R.C. Church for the Funeral Mass beginning at 10:00 a.m. celebrated by Rev. Peter Groulx. The Vigil Service will be held on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in St. Andrew’s R.C. Church. Born at Saint John, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Alma (Pike) Dunham. Marion was a school teacher for 42 years, teaching mostly at Princess Elizabeth and Dufferin Schools. She was a life long active member of St. James Anglican Church, Broad Street, a member of the Girl Guides of Canada, and a founding member of the Fundy Trefoil Guild. Sidney Courtney Sprague 1922 - 2008 Timber River, N.B. - It is with sadness that the family of Sidney Sprague, announce his passing on Saturday, June 21, 2008 at the Sackville Memorial Hospital. He was 85 years of age. Born in Port Elgin, N.B. on July 1, 1922, he was the son of the late Hansel and Athelia (Allen) Sprague. Sidney was a member of the Oddfellows and of the Royal Canadian Legion in Port Elgin until its closure as well as in Cap-Pele. He loved watching a good wrestling match and enjoyed any activity outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. JOHNSTONE, Melville - Passed away peacefully at York Central Hospital, Richmond Hill on Saturday June 21, 2008 in his 89th year. Predeceased by his loving wife, Irene (Singer) of sixty years, he will be lovingly remembered by his family Elaine (Dwight) and Robert (Gwen) and his five grandchildren Shelly (Cory), Stephen (Shannon), Michael (Nancy), Christopher Johnstone and Matthew Johnstone. He also has eight great-grand children. Mel was born on a potato farm in Tisdale, Saskatchewan on March 20, 1920, one of ten children. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force and later moved to Sudbury to be employed in the mining industry for 35 years. Always thoughtful, kind and generous, Mel never hesitated to assist others and was a life-long volunteer. He was a member of the Anglican Church of Canada, Belleville Masonic Lodge, 32nd Degree Scottish Rite and Shrine Temple in Tampa, Florida. He enjoyed golf, fishing, antiquing and life at the cottage. His family will remember him for his love and concern, his strength, his humorous stories, his simple, unassuming ways and acceptance of all of life's challenges. Mel was a proud Canadian living in “the best country in the world“. Rest in peace Mel. We love you. McINNIS, Irene Francis - Peacefully at her residence in Thorold on Saturday, June 21st, 2008 at the age of 98. Beloved wife of the late James “Dick“ McInnis (1986). Loving mother of James (late Bonnie) McInnis, Irene (late Leo) Emond and the late Dineen (James) Holland. Grandma will be sadly missed by her grandchildren Kara (Todd) Boughner, Nadine Emond, Michael (Tracy) Emond, Darin (Katie) McInnis, Darcy (Chris) McInnis, Jason (Jennie) McInnis and Greg Holland. Lovingly remembered by her 6 great grandchildren. Predeceased by her parents Elizabeth and John Moore and her brother William. Irene was born in Haileybury, ON on April 17, 1910. She came to Thorold to complete Business School which lead to her employment with the school board. Irene was notably known for her commitment and accomplishments in women's sports. She was inducted into Thorold's Hall of Fame in 2007, and honoured in Ottawa by the Women's Federation of Sports for her role in pioneering women's track and field. She was a dedicated volunteer to minor sports in Thorold and the CWL. Our sincere gratitude goes out to the many caregivers, especially Liz and Melissa who made Irene's last few years comfortable. Jason was a happy person with an infectious smile who had a zest for life and enjoyed people, his time with friends, bonfires, camping, engaging people in conversation and especially his music which he played from the moment he awoke in the morning.
