HENDERSON, Armour Beattie 1918 to 2008 At home on June 20th with loving wife Marion and family at his side in his 90th year. Father of Lorna (Denis), Gordon (Leslie) Graham (Claire), David, Donald (Maria), plus grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be sadly missed but fondly remembered. A good and loving husband of 65 years to Marion. He generously shared his knowledge, skills and values with family and friends along with peers at Victory Aircraft, AVROE Aircraft, and DND in Ottawa. He was a good and capable role model throughout the years. Special thanks to the comfort and support provided to him during his final months at home by the "We Care" staff and his family physician Dr. Taylor. We wish to acknowledge and thank Claire for all the love, support and organizing she has provided over the past many months. He is survived by his sister Isobel Whittaker of Deep River. A private family service was held and will be followed by a celebration of his life in the summer. In lieu of flowers, donations the MS Society would be appreciated. LAVENDER, Mildred Hazel 2008-06-23 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mildred Hazel Lavender, age 87, who died peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday, June 22, 2008 only 8 days after the passing of her husband of 65 years Harry. Mildred was born September 30, 1920, Mildred Hazel Cowan, in Sutherland (Saskatoon), Sask. She spent her early years on the prairies until she met the love of her life, Harry Lavender in February of 1942. They married August 1, 1942 in Sutherland, Saskatchewan before Harry served overseas in 1944. After the war they moved to Harry‘s hometown of Fort William, Ontario where they have lived all their lives and raised their three boys Carl, Jack and Albert. Mildred was a stay at home mom while using her seamstress skills to produce clothing, draperies and slip covers for many years. At age 42 she got her RNA certificate and nursed at Westmount Nursing Home and later at McKellar Hospital until retiring at age 64. For over 62 years she was a very active member of St. Thomas Anglican Church. She was a founding member of the Rainbow Group and was part of the Alter Guild since 1954. Mildred will be sadly missed by her sons Carl, Toronto, Jack (Janice), Red Deer, and Albert (Marilyn), Barrie; beloved grandchildren Carrie Benchea (Tom), Nashville, TN, Chris (Lisa), Oakville, Jill Youngberg (Brendan), Calgary, Jocelyn (Erik Colaiezzi), Calgary, Jennifer (Justin Henry), Ottawa and Michael, Barrie; great grandchildren, Sarah and Nathan Benchea, Nashville, TN and Jaime and Jessica Lavender, Oakville. Sisters-in-law Violet DeLong, Lilian Buttman (Larry) and Eva Forbes, Victoria; brother-in-law Ernie (Helen); and daughter-in-law Corinne, Goderich. Numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and other relatives also survive. She was predeceased by her father James Cowan and mother Mae Louise (Bishop), brothers Richard, Floyd, Charles & Fred, and sisters Edna, Laura and Vella. Funeral services for Mildred Lavender will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Thursday, June 26, 2008 at St. Thomas Anglican Church with The Ven. Archdeacon Andrew Hoskin officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday evening from 7:00 until 9:00 P.M. at the Westfort Chapel, 420 West Gore Street at James. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made in Mildred‘s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or St. Joseph‘s Care Group would be greatly appreciated.

PATITUCCI, Carlo - 1928-2008 - It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Carlo on Sunday, June 22nd after a courageous battle with cancer. Carlo was born in Fiumefreddo Bruzia, Province of Cosenza, Italy and immigrated to Canada in May of 1955. He became a Canadian Citizen on April 7, 1965. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Agata (nee Venneri), of 54 years and loving father of Rosa (Denis) Lavoie, and Vincenzo (Judy) Patitucci. Cherished grandfather of Melissa, Joel (fiancé Jana) and Amy Lavoie, and Carlo, Guy and Marino Patitucci. Predeceased by his parents, Rosa (DiCarlo) and Vincenzo Patitucci, brother Domenico (Lucia), sister Chiarina (Umberto) Fioretti and recently sister-in-law Rose Patitucci. He is survived by his brothers Giuseppe (Anna), Luigi (Nona), of St. Catherines, Settimio of Welland, Francesco (Vanda) of South Porcupine and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. He worked at Timmins Dairy for over a decade. He joined Texasgulf Canada Ltd. in 1967 as a mechanic and then as a compressor operator at the mine site until his retirement with Falconbridge Kidd Creek Division on January 18, 1991. A long time member of the Porcupine Dante Club, Carlo will be remembered for his love of dancing at the many special events held over the years. Carlo was a true handyman who could repair almost anything. He was an avid walker and loved to work around the yard and in his garden. Carlo was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who lived for his family and cherished his children and grandchildren. The family extends a heartfelt thank you to a dear friend Dr. Vaithilingam. We will be forever grateful for your caring, kindness and compassion. A special thank you to Sandra Bodnariuk of Bayshore Nursing and the rest of the staff for the excellent care and kindness during this past year. SMITH, Glorian Louise (nee Tipman) May 31, 1934 - June 20, 2008 Peacefully, surrounded by her family, at the Kingston General Hospital after a difficult illness. Born in Stettler, Alberta, to Anna Louise Tipman-Kirton and Joseph J. Tipman. Adored wife of Leigh Smith for 50 years. Also survived by daughter Kyla and son Lucas (Christa Sauvageau), loving grandmother of Charlotte and Robbie (October 2008). Sister of Jay Tipman, aunt of Michelle (Peter) and Joanne (Lance) and great-aunt of Jacob and Matthew. Sister-in- law of Richard (Jane), Paul (Pat) and Jill (Allan). Aunt of Jennifer, Martin, Alison and Craig. Glorian earned Education degrees from Queen's University, served as a legal secretary and was manuals writer at OHIP, Kingston. A lady of generous spirit and caring nature, she will be greatly missed. We thank the staff at KGH for their superb care during her last weeks. TAYLOR, FRANK "WAYNE" The passing of Frank "Wayne" Taylor, of Kingsley, NB occurred on Friday, June 20, 2008 at home. Born in Saint John, NB, Wayne was the son of the late Frank and Hazel (Butterfield) Taylor. Wayne was a taxi driver in Fredericton. In addition to his partner Rose Parent, Wayne is survived by son, Shawn Taylor of Ottawa, ON; daughter, Melanie Taylor of Ottawa; their mother, Alma Taylor; grandson Nathaniel Taylor; sister, Kathy Taylor-Sullivan (Rick) of Oshawa; brother, Jeff Taylor (Joyce Ginman) of Oshawa, ON; grandson, Nathaniel Taylor; close cousin, Marion "Dokie" McDougall; and nieces and nephews. ROBINSON BERRY, GORDON "BOB" Mr. Gordon "Bob" Robinson Berry was born on November 27, 1946; he was the son of the late Gordon Berry and his loving mother Marjorie (Robinson) Berry. Bob is survived by two daughters; Rhonda Cleghorn and her husband Jason of Waasis, NB, Charlene MacKeigan of Greenwood, NS; his son, Mike Berry and Tricia Holmesdale of Fredericton; his step-son, Darryl Campbell of London, On; and their mother, Linda Rogers; his brother, Ken Berry and his wife Sue of Virginia; four grandchildren, Jayce and Emma Cleghorn and Joseph and Curtis Smit. Bob was a member of the Canadian Navy where he received his electrical trade. He was a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #20. He loved hockey and music especially the Beach Boys. Mr. Gordon "Bob" Robinson Berry of Saint John passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital on June 21, 2008 at the age of 61. SWINDLEY, Joyce Vivian (nee Laugher) - On June 21st in her 90th year, Joyce Swindley passed away peacefully at home with her loving and devoted husband of 68 years, Doug, and her 2 daughters, Joy Honcoop and Sandy Wilson at her side. Her son Gary Swindley is in Alberta. She will be sadly missed by her grandchildren, Rick Swindley (Kim) of Nova Scotia, Kelli Lynn Swindley (Allison) of New Brunswick, Michael Honcoop (Lynn), Susan Kaine (Graeme), Leanna Linwood (Jack), Cliff Wilson (Penny) and Sarah Priebe (Josh). BARKO, Antonia - A resident of Blenheim, Antonia Barko passed away at Meadowpark Residence, Chatham on Saturday, June 21, 2008 at the age of 100. Born in Lednica, Czechoslovakia, daughter of the late Joseph and Verona (Hlohovski) Mikula. Beloved wife of the late Stefan Barko (1973). HIGGINS, Eric Bruce - Only son of Edward and Allie (Edgar) Higgins, passed away at his home in the arms of his wife on June 20th, 2008. Beloved husband of Anelda (Black) Higgins for 52 years. Loving father of Lori-Ann (Philip) McNally and infant daughter Lee-Ann Higgins (1960). He dearly loved his grandchildren Marty, Kristy-Ann and Kyle McNally as well as precious little great grandson Brock Bruce McNally. BROWN, Hugh George William October 25, 1914 - June 21, 2008 Hugh, the eldest of a family of eleven children, was born in Lethbridge to Andrew and Rose Brown. He lived his first years on a homestead near Del Bonita, Alberta before moving to Hussar in 1923. In 1936 he married Margaret Sykes, a local schoolteacher, and moved to Cluny where they farmed and raised their six children. Hugh was an avid curler and especially enjoyed bonspieling. He took an active role in 4-H clubs. Hugh was a Life Member of the Gleichen Lodge No. 36 AF&AM, (recently receiving his sixty year bar), and Past First Principal of Bow River No. 10, Royal Arch Masons. He was a Past Patron of Alberta Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of the Cluny Board of Trade. In 1975 he and Margaret retired to Strathmore where he continued as a WID Trustee, serving from 1973 to 1979. He was proud of his Life Membership in the Strathmore Lions Club and served on the Strathmore Golf Course Board. He and Margaret enjoyed their golfing. An important part of Hugh's last thirty years has been his association with his AA family. Hugh moved to the Wheatland Lodge in 2004 where he enjoyed excellent care and his many friendships. Hugh is survived by his children, Madeline (Geoff) Scott, Guy (Maisie) Brown, Rosemary (Albert) Nobert, Donald (Dianne) Brown, Barbara (Jason) Ronney, and Alice Brown; two sisters, Ruth Bonagura and Esther Hood; two brothers Doug (Marion) Brown, and Gordon (Ellen) Brown; seventeen grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret in 1991. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at Strathmore United Church, at 2:00 p.m. The Rev. Bob Caudle officiating. Interment Strathmore Cemetery. A tree will be planted there in his memory. AMBLER, Aleck 1922 - 2008 Aleck Ambler of Calgary passed away peacefully at Foothills Medical Centre on Friday, June 13, 2008 at the age of 85 years. He will truly be missed by his wife Birgit; daughter Deborah (Rob) Kernohan; two sons Mike (Rosalie) and Jim; four grandchildren Brad, Mike, James, Diana; great-grandson Austin and numerous friends. Aleck was an extraordinary man with a strong personality and character. He enjoyed life to the fullest and maintained a positive attitude throughout his illness. Aleck had a straightforward but fair approach to life and was not intimidated by challenges. He faced every difficult task head on and will always be remembered as a hardworking man. At times Aleck was perceived as being tough but he had a heart of gold and was always willing to give a helping hand. He lived a rich life and his achievements were bountiful. Aleck touched many lives through his wisdom, humour and countless life experiences. Aleck was a member of RCMP Veteran's Association. He was a current and active member of Rockyford Masonic Lodge No. 123, Tin Lizzie Corps of the Shrine Centre, Burma Star Association and First Canadian Collectors Club. After his retirement from the RCMP in 1978, Aleck fulfilled his long time dream and returned to farming in Birnie, Manitoba for seven years. Mécanicien par métier, avec plus de 60 ans d'expérience, il était à la retraite de la compagnie Crosstown Motors. Un membre de EAA, Donald était un passionné de l'aviation qui aimait piloter et réparer les avions. On se souviendra de lui ayant été un homme entièrement dévoué à sa famille, toujours soucieux d'une bonne qualité de rendement de son travail, d'un caractère jovial, ayant un bon sens d'humour et qui aimait une bonne blague. BATEMAN, Alicia Lynne On May 31, 2008 in Ottawa, Ontario, Alicia Lynne Bateman, at the tender age of 28 years, was tragically taken from those who loved her. Alicia was born and educated in Calgary, Alberta completing a Bachelor of Science degree with First Class Honours in Psychology at the University of Calgary. She graduated at the top of her class and featured on the Dean's list. Alicia was a well accomplished dancer studying at Allan Cozzubbo Academy of Dance, then at Foothills Dance Academy from the age of three years until her early twenties. Alicia competed in festivals and competitions throughout Alberta where she received numerous awards and scholarships. Alicia performed and traveled internationally for three years with Calgary Dance Express. After graduating from the University of Calgary, Alicia was one of twenty students worldwide accepted into the University of Liverpool Investigative Psychology program achieving her Master of Science degree. From her Master's thesis, several periodicals have been published and other students continue to build on her research. While in Liverpool, Alicia took the opportunity to travel throughout Europe. In 2004, Alicia joined CSIS and remained with them until the time of her passing. Alicia loved her job with CSIS and had a great group of friends and co-workers in the Ottawa area. Alicia touched many lives in her short life. Alicia was a beautiful, friendly, intelligent woman who had numerous friends across the country and who brought great joy to her family. Alicia's memory will be cherished by her mother, Lynne Haas, her maternal grandparents, Jim and Beverly Haas and her faithful dog, Jenna. Alicia is also survived by her father Brian Bateman, three aunts, Cathy Sharpe, Susan Willoughby and Donna Bateman, four uncles, Jim Haas, Dwayne Bateman, Jack Bateman and Larry Bateman as well as numerous cousins. Alicia was predeceased by her paternal grandfather Don Bateman in 1989 and her paternal grandmother Sheila Bateman in 2005. A Celebration of Alicia's Life will take place on June 25, 2008 from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. at Willow Park Golf and Country Club, 639 Willow Park Drive S.E., Calgary, Alberta. COWAN, Vera May August 15, 1921 - June 21, 2008 Vera Cowan, passed away on June 21, 2008 at the age of 86 years. Born on the family farm near Juniata, SK, the youngest of three, Vera was schooled at Juniata and Asguith, business college in Saskatoon. Moving to Calgary as a bookkeeper for Calgary CO-OP No. 1 original store. After meeting and marrying her husband C.G. (Gib) Cowan in Banff, they resided in Calgary and raised their family, Morey William Cowan and Marian Diane Cowan. Retiring to Salmon Arm in 1981 then to Airdrie in 2002. Vera leaves her husband C.G. (Gib) Cowan, her son and daughter-in-law Morey and Laurie Cowan of Airdrie, daughter, Marian Diane of Whitecourt, AB, two grandchildren, Lisa (Warren) Rosling, of Crossfield, AB and Dana (Brandy) Cowan of Irricana, AB. Two great-grandchildren, Peyton Rosling and Georgia Cowan, and a sister Ethyl. Vera was predeceased by her brother Everett.
