MORROW, David William Neil - Passed peacefully away at Peterborough Regional Health Centre on June 15, 2008 with his Mom by his bedside. Beloved son of June Morrow and the late Howard Morrow. Lovingly remembered by his cousins Paul and Beth Cathcart and Lesley and Desi Anthony with whom he enjoyed visiting frequently all his life. Survived by his Aunt Flo and cousins Delmar Sargent, Gail, Dennis and Laverne. David will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his many friends and neighbours. David had many interests especially travelling - cruising to many countries; sports - a loyal fan of the Peterborough Petes since 1974 and Special Olympics - competing at the local, Ontario and Canadian Games in baseball, swimming and track and field. Family and friends will be received at the COMSTOCK FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 356 Rubidge Street on Tuesday, June 17, 2008 from 2-4 and 7- 9 p.m.. BEATRICE (BEA) SIGURDSON Beatrice (Bea) Sigurdson, 76, of Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Monday, June 16, 2008 at Rainycrest in Fort Frances. She was born June 15, 1932 in Brandon, Man. She was united in marriage to Gordon Sigurdson on Sept. 1, 1951 and they moved to Fort Frances in 1961. She joined the staff of Safeway, where she worked for many years. After leaving Safeway, she worked for the UFCW. In her spare time, she enjoyed fishing, bird-watching, gardening, and crafts. Bea and Gordon loved to travel, and they frequently wintered in the south. One of her favourite memories was competing on “The Price is Right” and winning the “Showcase,” which included trips to Thailand, Ireland, and Boston. Her biggest joy came from watching her grandchildren. She constantly attended games, recitals, and school functions, and was very proud of all of their accomplishments. She was predeceased by her parents, John Snuggs and Hilda Humphrey; husband, Gordon, on June 10, 2005; granddaughter, Marie; uncle, Vernon Birch; sister-in-law, Helen and husband, Roy Taylor; brothers-in-law, Wallace Buckley and John Jennings; and father- and mother-in-law, Peter and Helen Sigurdson. Bea leaves behind her daughter, Corinne and husband, Larry Webb, and son, Greg Sigurdson and wife, Gina, all of Fort Frances, Ont.; grandchildren, Angela and husband, Blaine DeGagne, Kevin Webb and friend, Samantha, Miranda Sigurdson, and Josh Sigurdson and friend, Katie; and great-grandson, Jaden Cooper. Also surviving are her uncle, Ron Birch and wife, Irene; aunt, Marjorie Birch; sisters-in-law, Jean and husband, George Doole, and Marg Buckley; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Thursday, June 19, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, with Pastor Diane Clifford officiating. Cremation has taken place, with interment in the LaVerendrye Columbarium in Fort Frances. The honourary pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Angela DeGagne, Kevin Webb, Miranda Sigurdson, and Josh Sigurdson. ST. AMAND, William Hector - Peacefully at the Sault Area Hospital, Palliative Care Site, June 16, 2008 in his 94th year. Predeceased by his loving wife and companion, Isobel. For the last 4 1/2 years he has resided at the Pathways Retirement Home where he received excellent care. Son of the late Hector and Mary Eleanor St. Amand. Hector is survived by his sister, Norma McKinnon (late Gerald), his brother Edwin St. Amand (Joyce) and sister-in-law Amy Manning (late Sam). Predeceased by his sisters Beulah Hess (late Denzil), Rena Entwistle (late Jim), Stella Willson (late Bill). Fondly remembered as “Uncle Punky” by his caring and loving nephews and nieces, Graydon (Linda) and Maureen Hess, Jane Batenchuk (Ron), Dale Entwistle, Rodney St. Amand (Caroline), Barbara Dragicevic (Bob), Donna St. Amand Currie, Lynn, Doug & Janet (Jamie) McKinnon and several great nieces and nephews. Hector worked at the A.C.R. for years where he became a friend to his many fellow employees. He was a long time friend of the Chow and Hong families and learned to speak a few phrases in Chinese. He was a member of his beloved Central United Church for all of his 94 years. Also a long time member of the Masonic Lodge. Hector has survived many serious health problems throughout his life but with sheer determination and his faith he was able to continue on. BRYDON, Robert Alexander - Longtime resident of Grimsby and much loved member of Happy Hour at the condo where he lived, passed peacefully on Sunday, June 15, 2008 at West Lincoln Memorial Hospital, after a brief illness, in his 87th year. Loving husband of the late Florence Brydon (1997). Also dearly missed by sister- in-law Jean Brien and nieces and nephews Jo Ellen Brydon, Bill Brydon, William Goodward (Margaret) and Sharon Hyytiainen (Wally), who will miss their fun- loving uncle. Predeceased by his brother Arthur (1969). Bob was well-known in town for his larger-than-life jocular personality and his infinite kindness. After many years as a salesman of farm implements travelling in Ontario and Quebec, he was a constant source of stories and jokes, social comments and practical wisdom. Bob enjoyed nothing more than a few friends gathered around swapping yarns and the news of the day. Wherever he went, he ran into people he knew - even in the hospital, during his last days. Bob and Florence had an open door to friends and relatives, new and old, and Bob kept up the custom as much as possible after her death in l997. They enjoyed travels to Europe and Western Canada, and Bob's yarns about Paris were memorable. Cremation has taken place. A private service will take place at a later date. ROBINSON, Evelyn - It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Evelyn Robinson on June 13, 2008, at her residence of Fir Park Village in Port Alberni, B.C. Evelyn was two weeks short of her 96th birthday. Loving wife of the late Edward (Ted) Robinson. Ted and Ev moved to Owen Sound from Weston in 1950 and raised their family: Shirley (Terry) Whyte of Port Alberni, Diane (Alvin Bye) and Ken (Nancy) Robinson all of Owen Sound. They were a vibrant part of the community. Ted worked for Empire Stove Co. and later both Ev and Ted worked at the General and Marine Hospital in Owen Sound. They were active members of Westside United Church and Ev was particularly involved with the U.C.W. and as C.G.I.T. leader. They spent many happy retirement years in the small fishing village of Sointula on Malcolm Island, B.C. before moving to Port Alberni B.C. Evelyn will be dearly missed and greatly loved by all her family which includes nine grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. He was a very quiet and humble person who cared about people and gave his all to anyone who asked for his help. OATTES, Merle Ebert - Peacefully, with his family by his side, Merle passed away at the Brantford General Hospital on Saturday, June 14th, 2008 in his 86th year. Cherishing memories of happier times are his wife of almost 61 years, Doreen and children Dave (Cheryl), Dale (Barb), Gary and Marilou. Fondly remembering their grandpa are Jeremy & Ryan (Andrea) Oattes; Courtney, Kelly & Natalie Oattes and Scott & Graham Ferguson. Great granddaughter Amelia Oattes was a “ray of sunshine“ during Merle's last difficult months. Merle is also sadly missed by brother Carl (Carol), as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by sister Eleanor and parents Graham & Pearl. Born in Michigan City, Indiana, Merle moved with his family to Almonte, Ontario in the early 1930's. After graduating from Queen's University in 1944, Merle worked for Bell Telephone as a supervising engineer for 19 years before chasing his dream of guiding young people. He taught physics and science at North Park Collegiate for 22 years. His students will remember his gift for quick wit and dry humour. Merle was a member and president of the Telephone City Kiwanis Club and a volunteer with the Literacy Council and CNIB. Following a private interment service at Mount Hope Cemetery, his family will welcome friends at a reception to celebrate Merle's life on Thursday, June 19th at 3 p.m. at the Charing Cross Reception Suites, adjacent to DENNIS TOLL FUNERAL HOME, 55 Charing Cross. SPENCER, Charles Herbert Arthur 88, London, June 13 Charlie passed away peacefully on Friday, June 13th, in his 89th year. He lovingly shared a goodbye kiss and an "I love you" with Grace, his beautiful wife of 66 years. Charlie was born in Millbrook, Ontario, the 8th of 11 children of Canon Clarence and Ethel Spencer. Remembering him lovingly will be his 5 children: Robert (Leslie), Susan Aubry (Michael), Douglas (Sergio), John (Deborah) and Stephen; Grandchildren (Melinda, Christopher, Marc, Lindsay) and great-grandchildren (Kaitlin, Connor, Mairi, Callum) will miss Grampa Charlie's stories and hugs. He is also survived by younger sister Kay Brooks (John) and many nephews and nieces. Charlie proudly served his Country for 42 years, highlighted by a distinguished military career which included service in WW II, the Korean War, and as Canadian Liaison Officer at U.S. Continental Army Command in Fort Monroe, Virginia. To honour Charlie's wishes a family service shall be held at a later date to celebrate his remarkable life. WILSON, Beatrice Marion Passed away peacefully at Yorkton, Saskatchewan on June 16, 2008, in her 98th year. Marion was born November 18, 1910 at Carshalton, Surrey, England. She was the youngest of five children born to Tudor and Beatrice (Martin) Thomas. Marion came to the Clarks crossing district of Saskatchewan as a war bride in 1946. In 1948, she moved into Saskatoon where she lived until moving to Yorkton in January of 2006. Marion was predeceased by her husband, Travers Wilson, and survived by her children: Geoff (Eileen) of Ottawa, Gwen (Bruce) Keith of Yorkton, and Tom of Saskatoon; five grandchildren: Heather (Ross Lapointe) of Toronto, Holly (Patrick Merrin) of Perigueux, France, Ian Wilson of Calgary, Scott (Deanna) Keith of Yorkton, and Kyle (Raylene) Keith of Regina; as well as three great grandchildren. Mother's warmth and love will remain her lasting gift. Her family will cherish her tender words, her gentle hand, and her endearing smile. At Marion's request, there will be no funeral. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Inurnment at St. John's Columbarium, Saskatoon, and at Felpham, Sussex, England. The family thanks the staff of Aspen Bluffs Personal Care Home and the Yorkton Regional Health Centre for the excellent care and compassion shown to our mother.
