BELL, Robert “Ralph“ (1922-2008) (WWII Veteran, Active Service 1943- 1946 Italy and Holland, British Columbia Dragoons, Tank Corps). Loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and true friend to many. It is with deep sadness that we announce that, after a long and valiant struggle with heart disease, Ralph died in Maplewood Manor on Saturday, June 14th, 2008. Ralph was the son of the late James Thomas Muir Bell, and the late Margaret May Charlesworth. Also predeceased by his wife Elizabeth Margaret Fenwick. THURLEY, Lily Irene (formerly Reid) (nee Hodgson) - Lily Irene Hodgson was born in Brampton, Ontario on May 11, 1919, the eldest of four children to Fred Hodgson and Lily Abigail Powell. She grew up in Scarborough and married her high school sweetheart James Ian McBride Reid there in 1937. They had three daughters before Ian was sent overseas in 1943. In 1946 they moved to Gormley, Ontario and in 1949 added a fourth child to their family with a son. In the early 1960's Ian and Irene opened a record, t.v., and stereo store in Toronto called Tommy Common's Teen Town and later they opened a second store in Aurora called Tommy Common's Tune Town. Ian died unexpectedly in 1969. Irene worked with Dominion Electrohome and later with Jacoby T.V. and while working there she met Heinz Thurley. Irene and Heinz married in 1975 and moved to Queensville, later to Glenway in Newmarket, and eventually to Kelowna, B.C. in 1993. Heinz passed away in September 1996, so in 1997 Irene moved back to Aurora. Recently Irene has been residing in the care of Roberta Place in Barrie. She passed away peacefully in hospital on June 14, 2008. Irene is the last of her generation, having been predeceased by her brothers Roy, Gordon, and Richard Hodgson. She is survived by her children Rosemarie Irene Mohring, Elsie Joy Morning, Joanne Gail Bennett (Glenn) and James Ian Reid (Debbie). She is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as by step- children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. AMMIRATI, Salvatore (Sam) February 23, 1946 - June 13, 2008 On Friday, June 13, 2008 our beloved father, husband, brother, uncle and friend passed away prematurely, and has joined his favourite brother-in-law, John Cortese, with God at the age of 62 years while fishing at McGregor Lake, AB. Salvatore was a well-liked and respected founding member of the Del-Rich Meadows community just outside of Calgary. He was born in Castelsilano, Italy on February 23, 1946, the second youngest brother in a family of nine. He left his hometown as a youngster to find work and contribute to his family back home. He voluntarily joined the Italian military at the age of twenty, where he achieved the rank of Sergeant and earned a medal of bravery during his service. In 1971 he returned home and married Maria Cortese. They immigrated to Calgary together and began their lifelong union. As newlyweds, Sam and Maria quickly began a family raising two children together while he worked continually as the founder of Sam's Decorating for thirty-seven years. His business was successful thanks to his dedicated work ethic, quality craftsmanship and memorable personality. Sam's good humour and infectious laugh left everyone around him feeling comfortable and entertained. He will be forever remembered by his friends and family for his operatic voice and his passion for singing. Sam will be missed and loved by all who knew him. Besides his beloved wife Maria, Sam is survived by one son, Matteo and his fiancee, Jen Watson; and one daughter, Lisa and her fiance, Russ Porosky. He also leaves behind seven siblings, Saverio, Sisina, Marietta, and Caterina, all residing in Italy; Isabella, Vincenza, and his favourite brother, Francesco, all of Calgary; and all his relatives, in-laws, nieces, and nephews who will miss him dearly. Sam was predeceased by his parents, Matteo and Luisa; as well as one sister, Rosinella. MACLEOD, Ella Mae The death occurred peacefully on Sunday, June 15, 2008 at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, with her family at her side, of Ella MacLeod, wife of the late Scott MacLeod, of North Rustico, age 78. Ella was the beloved mother of Donna MacLeod (Bobby Gauthier), Charlottetown; Tania MacLeod-Burridge (Doug Burridge), North Rustico; and Ian MacLeod (Gloria Warren), Charlottetown; loving grandmother of Crystal MacLeod; Mitchell MacLeod (Raeona Pound); Chelsy Broderick and Tanner Biso; and great-grandmother of Emily MacLeod. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Ray Jonah; her sisters-in-law, Marie Peters and Evelyn Peters; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ella was the last surviving member of the Joe-Lamie Peters family. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her daughter, Carol-Anne, her parents, Joe-Lamie and Angelina Peters; her brothers, Marshall, Stephen, Austin and Gussie; and her sisters, Louise, Rose and Florence (Flo). STEWART, SUSAN 2008-06-17 It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Susan Stewart, age 66, in her own home on June 16, 2008. Susan is survived by her son Edward Stewart Jr., daughter Tammy Stewart, grandchildren Jarrett and Desirae Stewart , brother John Russell, his mate Winnie and nieces and nephews. Susan was born and raised in Port Arthur and was married to her husband Edward in 1960 for 43 years before his passing in 2003. Susan enjoyed gardening, fishing, spending time with her two grandchildren and playing bingo. There are no words to express how much she will be missed by her family and many friends. Susan is predeceased by her husband Edward Stewart, daughter Judy, mother Enid McCubbin and father Howard Russell. Susan will be cremated and all her wishes will be followed, therefore there will be no funeral and no services. HÉTU, Réal 1925 - 2008 À un être unique, bon repos C'est avec tristesse que nous vous annonçons le décès de Réal Hétu, autrefois notaire à Montréal, survenu le vendredi 13 juin dernier à l'hôpital de Ste-Agathe après une brève maladie. Il laisse dans le deuil son épouse Pierrette Mercure, ses enfants France (Robert Paré), Chantal et Martin (Ève Baillargeon), ses frères et soeurs, neveux et nièces et de nombreux amis. Notre « deer » des Laurentides et de Pompano, notre bouffon légendaire, notre inspecteur Cluzo, notre Walter Mattau québécois et sans oublier notre séduisant Maurice Chevalier, tu nous a quittés mais tu nous laisses des souvenirs impérissables. La famille tient à remercier tout le personnel du 3e / Unité Gériatrie courte durée de l'hôpital de Sainte-Agathe qui a permis à notre être aimé de faire ce passage avec dignité. Selon ses dernières volontés, une cérémonie religieuse sera célébrée le vendredi 20 juin à 14 h à la Paroisse St-Norbert, 6140, rue Morin, Val-Morin. CARSON, John Jarvis Died Sunday, June 15, peacefully and surrounded by loved ones at the Montfort Hospital after a brief and rapid decline in health. John was predeceased by his wife, Elspeth Herbert. Much beloved by his children Elizabeth (Ian Hutton), John (Elisa Barbarese), Faith (Barry Bellamy), Deborah (Ted Tunis), Daniel (Brenda Lillico), Kitty (Wayne Corey), his companion-caregiver Derrick Nazareth, and his grandchildren Dianna, Towani and Pascale, Philippe, Aaron and Leah, Adam, Matthew and Carson, Alexander, Eve and Benjamin, and great grandchildren, Xavion, Mahalia, Carson, Clea, Natasha, Daniel, Joseph and Elizabeth as well as his Rolston and Herbert nieces and nephews. John was born October 11, 1919 in Vancouver to parents Walter Miller Carson and Florence Jarvis. He spent happy summers on the Sunshine Coast, cottaging, camping and later working at YMCA Camp Elphinstone. He was President of the Student Council at Prince of Wales Secondary School and subsequently obtained his BA at UBC. He met Elspeth in 1938 on an Atlantic crossing and after a whirlwind shipboard romance, they corresponded for five years, marrying in 1943. He served in the Canadian Army during WWII and attained the rank of Captain. Following the war, he joined the consulting firm of Woods Gordon, settled in Toronto and built a cottage in Muskoka. He subsequently worked for Ontario Hydro and obtained his Masters degree in psychology from U of T. In 1956 he returned to Vancouver as Vice President of BC Electric, subsequently BC Hydro. He was active in community life St John's Ambulance, the Children's Foundation, and the Vancouver Board of Trade. He bought a cottage on the Sunshine Coast and was a devoted weekend cottager. In 1964, he was seconded to Ottawa to work on the Glassco Commission. He was subsequently invited to implement the recommendations and appointed by Lester Pearson as Chairman of the Public Service Commission. He served with distinction, implementing many significant human resource management initiatives and representing Canada on UN reforms of staffing. In 1976, he was named Dean of the Faculty of Management at the University of Ottawa where he continued teaching until 1989. Working with CIDA he set up a faculty of management at the University of Sri Jayawardenapura (Sri Lanka) and hosted many Sri Lankans in Canada, including Derrick Nazareth. He served on the Board of the YMCA, CUSO and was named an officer of the Order of Canada in 1977. He received honourary degrees from York University, the University of Ottawa and Sri Jayawardenapura. He loved his cottage on Heney Lake where he hosted family and friends over the decades for reunions, singsongs, bonfires and charades. He maintained active connections with his extended family and friends through a family newsletter, the Chapel Street Press. LITVAN, Gerard (Gabor) May 17, 1927 - June 15, 2008 Gerard died the way he lived, quietly, with dignity and with his family close by, his sister Erika, wife Annie (Anna), daughter Julia and son (in-law) Maury, granddaughter Katie, grandson Adam and granddaughter-in-law Cyndi and most recent pride and joy great-grandson Izsak. Gerard was a leading expert in his field of science, recognized worldwide for his vast contributions. His knowledge of music, literature and art was an inspiration to his grandchildren with whom he had a wonderful, loving relationship. SPENCER, Charles Herbert Arthur 88, London, June 13 Charlie passed away peacefully on Friday, June 13th, in his 89th year. He lovingly shared a goodbye kiss and an "I love you" with Grace, his beautiful wife of 66 years. Charlie was born in Millbrook, Ontario, the 8th of 11 children of Canon Clarence and Ethel Spencer. Remembering him lovingly will be his 5 children: Robert (Leslie), Susan Aubry (Michael), Douglas (Sergio), John (Deborah) and Stephen; Grandchildren (Melinda, Christopher, Marc, Lindsay) and great-grandchildren (Kaitlin, Connor, Mairi, Callum) will miss Grampa Charlie's stories and hugs. He is also survived by younger sister Kay Brooks (John) and many nephews and nieces. Charlie proudly served his Country for 42 years, highlighted by a distinguished military career which included service in WW II, the Korean War, and as Canadian Liaison Officer at U.S. Continental Army Command in Fort Monroe, Virginia. WILSON, Beatrice Marion Passed away peacefully at Yorkton, Saskatchewan on June 16, 2008, in her 98th year. Marion was born November 18, 1910 at Carshalton, Surrey, England. She was the youngest of five children born to Tudor and Beatrice (Martin) Thomas. Marion came to the Clarks crossing district of Saskatchewan as a war bride in 1946. In 1948, she moved into Saskatoon where she lived until moving to Yorkton in January of 2006. Marion was predeceased by her husband, Travers Wilson, and survived by her children: Geoff (Eileen) of Ottawa, Gwen (Bruce) Keith of Yorkton, and Tom of Saskatoon; five grandchildren: Heather (Ross Lapointe) of Toronto, Holly (Patrick Merrin) of Perigueux, France, Ian Wilson of Calgary, Scott (Deanna) Keith of Yorkton, and Kyle (Raylene) Keith of Regina; as well as three great grandchildren. Mother's warmth and love will remain her lasting gift. Her family will cherish her tender words, her gentle hand, and her endearing smile. At Marion's request, there will be no funeral. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Inurnment at St. John's Columbarium, Saskatoon, and at Felpham, Sussex, England. The family thanks the staff of Aspen Bluffs Personal Care Home and the Yorkton Regional Health Centre for the excellent care and compassion shown to our mother. Harley was born on March 19, 1928 in Coleman, AB. A gentleman and gentle man, he was generous of heart and soul to all who knew him. His honour and integrity reflected a giant among men. Dad's true passion in life was his family. Over the years, family and friends have gathered to enjoy celebrations and undoubtedly be tickled by his dry wit and sense of humour. Dad also loved his cars, golf, a good game of cards, and in recent years, winter retreats with Lucille to Mesa, AZ. A pipefitter by trade, Harley worked for the CPR for forty-two years in the Ogden and Alyth shops. He was also a member of the Navy Reserve out of HMCS Tecumseh. Harley leaves behind his sweetheart and wife of fifty-eight years, Lucille; their children, Joseph and wife Doris, Linda Silvius and husband Dana, Bruce and wife Teresa; grandchildren Cynthia, Luke, Dave, Aaron, Christian and Adam; great-granddaughter Grace; three brothers and three sisters, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Belle and Dan Johnston, and brother Don. PARKER, Walter James (Joe) October 25, 1952 - June 13, 2008 Joe passed away peacefully in the early morning hours at Mt. Pleasant House in Calgary. He is survived by his sister, Holly Helias (Alain) of Ste. Mesme, France, brothers Lorne and Jack of Calgary, a special sister-in-law Rae, aunts Kay, Babe and Bernice of Cambridge, ON, and numerous nieces and nephews. Joe was predeceased by his parents Everard and Holley, his brother Ray, and nephew Terry. Despite his severe handicap, he loved life, his family, music, movies and the Calgary I.O.O.B.'s where he was so proud to be appointed as the "Deputy Fuzz". SAUNDERS, Patricia Mary (Pat) (nee Mitchell) - On Saturday, June 14, 2008 at Kingston General Hospital after a courageous struggle with illness Pat in her 68th year, beloved wife of Doug Saunders. Will be forever missed by her daughter Gina (husband Jim) Davis of Seeley's Bay and her grandchildren James and Danielle. Roberta Ida Fields 1943 - 2008 Roberta Ida Fields, 65, wife of Eric Fields of Little Shemogue passed away on Friday, June 13, 2008 at the Sackville Memorial Hospital, Sackville following a lengthy illness. Born May 13, 1943 in Little Shemogue, she was the daughter of the late Lorne Field and the late Ida Morrison. She leaves to mourn her husband of 45 years Eric Fields; three daughers, Sandra Stright of Murray Corner, Christina Fields (Rick MacDonald) of Charlottetown, P.E.I., Tracy Matthews (Tony) of Moncton; one step-son, Tim Field (Bernice) of Cap Pelé; two sisters, Marilyn Hutchinson (Ron) of Quispamsis, Valerie Doucett (Mike) of Cape Tormentine; one brother, Bill Field (Margaret) of Fredericton; six grandchildren, Nicolas, Sabrina, Calvin, Colby, Michael, Sophie; two great grandchildren, Caleb and Isabel; and by many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by a son, Michael (1965) and by a brother, Rodney Field. She was the past owner and operator of Colonial Take Out in Murray Corner, and a correspondent for the Sackville Tribune for several years. She inspired many people throughout her 26 year battle with cancer. Funeral service will be held at Murray Corner First United Church, Murray Corner on Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at 2pm. with Rev.
