MONTAGUE, Marilee Elizabeth (1947-2008) (Westcott) Of Deep River, ON, died in her home surrounded by her family on May 11th. Born in Wolfville, NS and raised in Waterford, Digby Co, NS by her loving parents, Phyllis (Robicheau) and the late Leigh Westcott. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Robert Montague; mother, Phyllis Westcott; daughters, Janice Babcock (Randy) of Kingston, ON and Heather Whitman of Dartmouth, NS; grandchildren, William, Lee & Elizabeth Detlor of Kingston, ON. The family expresses their heartfelt thanks to the many friends, care givers and sorority sisters for their love, compassion, care & understanding, throughout Marilee's valiant struggle with cancer. Thank you. Memorial Service will be at 11:00 a.m. on May 16th at the Community Church in Deep River, ON. Funeral Services will be at at later date in Digby, NS. OBITUARY MARGARET ANNE THOMSON (nee HORNE) After a brief, but valiant fight, Margie succumbed to the devastating effects of cancer on May 11, 2008 at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto. The family is deeply grateful to all the oncology, clinical research and palliative care teams for the compassionate and thoughtful care Margie received while at Sunnybrook. Margie is survived by her beloved husband Peter, her sons David (Joanne de Visser) and Ian, and her cherished grandchildren Erin and Callum Thomson. Born in Montreal, Margie was the elder daughter of the late Marjorie Frances Horne (nee Smith) and the late David Ross Horne, and leaves her sister Janet Hawke (Earl) of Pointe Claire and her many nieces and nephews. Margie's love of her family, her passion for sport and her commitment to her community, like her beloved Orford Lake, ran deep. An avid and accomplished athlete, Margie was always on-the-go whether it was over to the tennis or badminton courts in Leaside, on the ski hills of the Eastern Townships and Jay Peak, or in recent years, chasing a little white ball all over Ontario and Quebec. Slow was not in Margie's vocabulary, and her passion for action burns brightly in her children and grandchildren. Margie was also a very active volunteer in her Leaside community. Recently at her bedside, she was honoured for her thirty-five years as a volunteer at the Bloorview Kids Rehab Centre. She also canvassed extensively for worthy causes such as the Salvation Army and Canadian Cancer Society. Margie could be counted on to support her sons' and grandchildren's school functions, as well as various neighbourhood events. For many of these functions, Margie could always depend on her extended circle of friends to lend a hand in these endeavours. Over the years, her friends really became more like family. HANNA, William James – (WWII Veteran and former High School teacher in Tweed, Madoc, Stirling and Smith Falls) peacefully at Kingston General Hospital on Sunday, May 11, 2008 in his 84th year. Son of the late Murray and Ada Hanna. Beloved husband of Joyce Hanna (nee Genereaux) of Belleville. Loving father of Jim (Carol) Hanna of Belleville. Cherished grandfather of Jimmy (Paige), Ron and Kim Hanna all of Belleville. James is also survived by his brothers, Thomas (June) Hanna of Fort Erie and John (Barb) Hanna of Trenton and by his sisters, Janet Flieler of Stirling and Dorothy Ostrom of Belleville. Jim will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and extended family. Maureen was involved with the Catholic Women's League, Meals on Wheels and the Girl Guides of Canada, was an avid card player, loved reading mystery novels and going to yard sales. She had a great sense of humour, loved to laugh, enjoyed traveling, loved her feline friends Orillia and Rilley. The focus of her life was on her family and grandchildren. DAVID DeBUNGEE (Poondaweweidang Pikojikwiiwens) Tuesday, May 13, 2008 David DeBungee, 68, of the Nahmay (Sturgeon) Clan, Poondaweweidang Pikojikwiiwens, of Manitou Rapids, Rainy River First Nations, Ont., passed away Saturday, May 10, 2008 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont. David was born Feb. 28, 1940 in Manitou Rapids to the late Ben and Irene DeBungee, and lived most of his life in the community. In his earlier years, he cut pulpwood in Minnesota and surveyed land in Ontario. He worked for a period of time at the Manitou Rapids sawmill, and also as caretaker at the Kay-Nah-Chi-Wah-Nung Historical Centre in Stratton, Ont. David later met Lorraine Cochrane and together they raised their family. David truly accepted his step-children and step-grandchildren, and cared for them as much as he did for his own. David was well-respected by his family, relatives, and friends alike, and was known for his heritage and traditional beliefs and customs from which he was raised. He was predeceased by two brothers, Jack and Ralph; and one sister, Jessie. David is survived by his spouse, Lorraine Cochrane of Manitou Rapids First Nation; and by his stepson, Harvey Cochrane Sr., and stepdaughters, Nicole (Stan) and April Cochrane, all of Manitou Rapids First Nation. Also surviving are 10 step-grandchildren, Curtis, Cheyenne, Harvey Jr., and Erika Cochrane, Dessa, Dayna, and Taylor Vlotaros, and Connor, Kristian, and Brennan Jourdain; and two step-great grandchildren, Ethan Hawk-Cochrane and Lexus Skead. David also is survived by one daughter, Darlene (John) Gibbons of Morson, Ont.; five grandchildren, Jules, Tamara, Janessa, Britney, and Courtney; two great-grandchildren, Lezaya and Kirsten; and numerous nieces and nephews. A traditional burial ritual will be held Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at 10 a.m. at the Manitou Rapids Rainy River First Nations gymnasium. Elder Peter White will officiate, with burial in the Manitou Rapids Rainy River First Nation Cemetery. A wake will be held Tuesday evening, May 13, 2008 at the Manitou Rapids Rainy River First Nations gymnasium. KENNEDY-WELSH, Carol 2008-05-13 Carol Darlene Kennedy-Welsh passed away on Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at her residence. Born in Selkirk, Manitoba on April 9, 1948, and came to Fort William with her family as a child. Carol was a very outgoing and spirited person who enjoyed spending most of her time with family and good friends. She also loved camping and spending time outdoors. Carol was well known for her rugged yet playful nature and was no stranger to helping anyone who was in need. She was a devout Christian with a loving and giving spirit. Carol is deeply missed by her: special friend Johnny; sons: Terry, Ronnie, and Mark; daughter Corrine (Bob); brothers: Jack, Jerry (Kathy), Dan (Leslie), Dwight (Susan) and Raymond; sister Lori (Tony); numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by her parents Kenneth and Helen as well as her brother Dean. STAUFFER, THOMAS JOSEPH - Thomas Stauffer of Saint John died peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital on May 11, 2008. Born on December 4, 1931 in Flint, Michigan to Thomas and Alma (Williams) Stauffer. He was brought up in London, Ontario and moved to Saint John in 1963. Tom worked at Sommerville Industries, Wayside Industries, Consolidated Bathurst, Maritime Paper and CBC Radio. He was an avid hunter and fisher and belonged to the Atlantic Salmon Federation, Hammond River Association and Balls Lake Fishing Club. "Never met a person who didn't like or respect Tom". Survived by his wife, Violet (Collins); son, Thomas (Theresa) of Quispamsis; daughter, Linda (Fred) Sherwood of Saint John; four grandchildren, Ann Marie, Jennifer, Ryan and Matt; three great-grandchildren, R.T., Jacob, and Lydia; two brothers, James (Lorraine) Stauffer of Florida and Watrous (Nancy) Stauffer of London, Ontario. She was born in Moncton, NB on October 25, 1958 to Thérèse (Doiron) Richard and the late Léo Richard. Cécile worked at the Saint John Regional Hospital as a ward clerk in the Hostel Unit. She was a loving mother to her daughter, Natasha Richard. Besides her daughter, Natasha, Cécile is survived by eight siblings, Robert Richard (Ginette), Léo-Paul Richard (Mary), Monique Daigle (Vincent), Camille Richard (Susan), Aline McGraw (Joanne), Edgar Richard (Jeannette), Bella Arsenault (Yvon) and Denise Babin (Paul); two godchildren, Tammy Skelding and Nicholas Brien; special friend, Raymond Smith and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Born in St. George, NB, she was a daughter of the late Leslie and Nellie (Wheaton) Goodeill. Carolyn graduated from the Saint John General Hospital School of Nursing in 1941 as a Registered Nurse. She rose to Night Supervisor before retiring to raise her family. She was a member of the Saint John General Hospital Alumni. She attended All Saints Anglican Church, Park Avenue. Carolyn is survived by two sons, David (Barb) Land of Barrie, ON, James (Mary Lynn) Land of Saint John, NB; one daughter, Ruth (Ronald) Cullen of Saint John, NB; seven grandchildren, Derek (Jacqueline), Alicia (Gord), Robert, DJ, Tara (Douglas) Barton, Kristin and Robyn; three great-grandchildren, Alastair, Carter and Dawson; several much-loved cousins, nieces and nephews. Lillian Marie Archibald With great sadness, the family announces the passing of Lillian Marie Archibald (Doucet) of Archibald Settlement, NB, which occurred on May 12, 2008 at the Campbellton Regional Hospital at the age of 79. Born in Becketville, NB, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence Doucet and Hectorine Haché. Lillian is survived by her husband, Gordon; son, Wayne (Clare) of Moncton; daughter, Esther of Fredericton; grandsons, Jeff and Patrick; two brothers, Austin (Alice) and John (Margaret); four sisters, Mary, Agnes, Jeanette and Ann Marie (Raymond) all of Jacquet River; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, Paul Hickey; an infant son, John; and one sister, Patsy. She was a long time member of the St. Gabriel's Catholic Women's League and the Jacquet River Golden Age Club. Lillian loved her family above all. She also loved to cook, knit, play cards, cheer for the Toronto Blue Jays, and watch curling. Lillian enjoyed gardening and flowers. Roberta Aitken November 27, 1919 - May 11, 2008 It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of our mother, Roberta Aitken on May 11, 2008 at the Lakeshore General Hospital in Ashern, Manitoba. She lived in the Ashern Personal Care Home. Roberta was born on November 27, 1919. In 1937, she married Charles Aitken and they lived in Winnipeg for a while before moving back to the farm in Moosehorn. Mom never got tired of helping others and enjoyed company. Roberta leaves to mourn her two daughters, Margret and Beverley of Moosehorn; her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; one sister, Esther of Winnipeg; and her brother Bill of Red Deer, Alberta. Roberta was predeceased by her husband Charles in 1985; son Chuck in 1997; daughters, Edith in 2003 and Marion in 1978; sons-in-law, Pete in 2006 and Frank in 2007. Funeral service will be held on Friday, May 16, 2008 at 11:00 a.m., with viewing beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the Moosehorn Community Hall with Reverend Bernd Rist officiating. IRVING, Donald F. January 27, 1917 - May 11, 2008 Donald F. Irving, beloved husband of Kathleen Irving (nee Kelly) of Calgary, passed away on Sunday, May 11, 2008 at the age of 91 years. Don was born and raised in Calgary. He graduated from Western Canada High School. He attended the University of Alberta and graduated from McGill University in 1939 with a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanics. Don was a lifetime member of APPEGA, President of Irving Industries (Foothills Steel Foundry Division Ltd.), and a Director of Irving Holdings and Irving Wire Division. He also held offices in Amer. Foundry Association of Alberta (Chairman), Calgary United Fund, St. Philip's Anglican Church, the Boy Scout Association (Cubmaster), and the Calgary Diabetes Association (as a Fundraiser). Don was formerly employed with M.W. Kellogg in New York, Carter Halls Aldinger in Winnipeg, C.I.L. Neepawa in Manitoba, the Department of Munition and Supply (shipbuilding in Ottawa), and Dominion Rubber in Montreal. Besides his loving wife Kathleen, Don is survived by his daughter Susan McIntosh; and sons, Harry F., Kelly D., and James D. He also spent a lot of time coaching little league baseball, fastball and minor hockey. Alfie worked at Algoma Ore and retired on April 1, 1983. Alfie and Dawn spent many happy years fishing and gardening at their cottage on Loonskin Lake. Alfie was an avid fisherman, hunter, trapper, and passed his passion for the outdoors onto his grandchildren Chris and Charlee. Those who knew him well will remember his “great story telling“. Alfie's family would like to thank Dr. Daniel McBain, Dr. Rudy Gasparelli, Jo, Louise, Lucy and all the staff at LDHC who had some part in caring for Alfie during his final days. To all his family, extended family and friends who called and stopped by to say hello, thank-you. The family would also like to give a special thanks to Dad's coffee buddy Al Hardy for all the afternoon outings and visits. DELORES ‘DOLLY’ ROACH Tuesday, May 13, 2008 “Anang-gok” (Morning Star) It is with deep sadness and great sorrow that the family of Delores “Dolly” Roach announces her passing on Monday, May 12, 2008, with her family at her side, after a courageous battle with long-term health issues. Dolly was born Nov. 1, 1934 (All Saints Day) at Couchiching First Nation. She was united in marriage to Milton Patrick Roach and together they raised their loving family. Much of our mother’s strength came from the endurance of the many losses that she suffered. Dolly was predeceased by her mother, Clara Mainville (nee Guimond) in 1966; her father, Frederick Mainville in 1990; and her brother, Walter Mainville in 1993. Mom said that a parent should not outlive their child, yet she mourned the loss of two infant daughters, Karen Lynn “Tammy” and Allyson Clara, and three adult children, Milton “Rocky” in 1973, Pamela Elaine in 1980, and Michael William in 1982. Mom also said “To lose a grandchild is a test of your faith,” and sadly she endured the passing of her grandchildren, Patrick in 1978, Jonas in 1981, and Angela in 1994. Because of her profound love of Jesus, Mom endured life in a simple and faith-filled way. In joy, in sadness, in suffering, and in hard times, she always uttered the name of Jesus. And it is this deep faith that tells her story. Mom was raised at Couchiching First Nation and attended St. Marguerite’s Residential School. She graduated from Grade 12 at the Fort Frances High School. Mom worked as a waitress, cook, laundress, and a caregiver to children. Her most important life’s work was her divine call to be a missionary in the district, across the country, and in the north. Mom was tirelessly involved in many worthy causes. She was a member of the C.W.L., a Grey Nun’s Associate, a T.E.C. leader (touching the lives of many youth), and played a key role in the Ontario Native Kateri Conferences, Native Pastoral Seminars, and Catholic Charismatic Renewal. Dolly also was a pipe carrier and a jingle dress dancer. Her children grew up watching in admiration her example of tireless dedication to helping others. Mom always was ready to feed and clothe those in need. She visited the sick and prayed for the dying. Dolly leaves behind to mourn her husband, Patrick; brothers, Deacon Elmer Mainville (Bessie) and Douglas Mainville (Bonnie); sisters, Madeline Tucker, Armaline Mainville, and Sandra Mainville; and children, Deborah (Don) Alleman, Patrick (Kim) Roach, Gail (Ron) LeForte, Dennis (Tracey) Roach, Bonnie Roach, Jonathan Roach, and Terril (David) Strain. Also surviving are 20 grandchildren, Toby Alleman and Darcy Sullivan; Cherity and Jesse Calder; Marle LeForte, Elissa Kixen, Samuel, Benjamin “Deeds,” and Issac LeForte; John, Michael, and Sally Roach; Alana Stewart, Sara, Courtney, and Cassidy Roach; and Jeremy, Joshua, Mary, and Sarah Strain; and 11 great-grandchildren, Nora Sullivan; Jaxon, Dawson, and Anelynn Calder; Calleigh Calder; Patrick, Toby, and Teddy LeForte; Alfie Kixen; and Rianna and Abi Bruyere. A mass celebrating Dolly’s life will be held Friday, May 16, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish. Fr. Francis Pudicherry will officiate, with interment in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery. Friends may visit Thursday, May 15 from 7-9 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, Ont. Parish prayers will be offered at 7:30 p.m. by Deacon Bob Grynol. The pallbearers will be her grandsons.
