DAVID DeBUNGEE (Poondaweweidang Pikojikwiiwens) Tuesday, May 13, 2008 David DeBungee, 68, of the Nahmay (Sturgeon) Clan, Poondaweweidang Pikojikwiiwens, of Manitou Rapids, Rainy River First Nations, Ont., passed away Saturday, May 10, 2008 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont. David was born Feb. 28, 1940 in Manitou Rapids to the late Ben and Irene DeBungee, and lived most of his life in the community. In his earlier years, he cut pulpwood in Minnesota and surveyed land in Ontario. He worked for a period of time at the Manitou Rapids sawmill, and also as caretaker at the Kay-Nah-Chi-Wah-Nung Historical Centre in Stratton, Ont. David later met Lorraine Cochrane and together they raised their family. David truly accepted his step-children and step-grandchildren, and cared for them as much as he did for his own. David was well-respected by his family, relatives, and friends alike, and was known for his heritage and traditional beliefs and customs from which he was raised. He was predeceased by two brothers, Jack and Ralph; and one sister, Jessie. David is survived by his spouse, Lorraine Cochrane of Manitou Rapids First Nation; and by his stepson, Harvey Cochrane Sr., and stepdaughters, Nicole (Stan) and April Cochrane, all of Manitou Rapids First Nation. Also surviving are 10 step-grandchildren, Curtis, Cheyenne, Harvey Jr., and Erika Cochrane, Dessa, Dayna, and Taylor Vlotaros, and Connor, Kristian, and Brennan Jourdain; and two step-great grandchildren, Ethan Hawk-Cochrane and Lexus Skead. David also is survived by one daughter, Darlene (John) Gibbons of Morson, Ont.; five grandchildren, Jules, Tamara, Janessa, Britney, and Courtney; two great-grandchildren, Lezaya and Kirsten; and numerous nieces and nephews. A traditional burial ritual will be held Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at 10 a.m. at the Manitou Rapids Rainy River First Nations gymnasium. Elder Peter White will officiate, with burial in the Manitou Rapids Rainy River First Nation Cemetery. A wake will be held Tuesday evening, May 13, 2008 at the Manitou Rapids Rainy River First Nations gymnasium. The pallbearers will be Harvey Cochrane Sr., Robert Handorgan, Gordon Medicine, Richard Debungie, Joe Hunter, and Albert Hunter Sr. The honourary pallbearers will be family and friends of David. PETERSON, Tamara Jayne - Passed away tragically on May 10th at the age of 34. Tamara was born and raised in Lethbridge. She graduated from LCI and then continued with her education at Lethbridge Community College where she earned her Nursing Diploma in 1994. At the time of her graduation there were few opportunities for RN's in Lethbridge so Tamara chose to take a job as a nanny, which gave her opportunity to see Australia. Upon returning home to Lethbridge Tamara pursued a career as a funeral director. Tamara graduated in 1998 as a certified Funeral Director/embalmer and worked in the field until returning to nursing in 2001. Tamara worked briefly at LRH before venturing to Philadelphia to work on a neuron step down unit. Tamara enjoyed the couple of years she spent in Philadelphia but returned to Canada and made her new home in Kingston, Ontario were she lived and worked until her passing. Tamara had a great love of animals throughout her life. She adored her hulk of a tabby Hercules and her two loyal and loving dogs, Lestat and Akasha. Tamara had an artistic eye and enjoyed photography and creating cards and scrap books that will forever remind us of her. On February 27th, 2007 Tamara became the proud mother of a beautiful baby boy, Antaous. She referred to him as her little tater tot and thus he became fondly known to all as Tater. Tamara will be sadly missed by her parents Ken & Bev Peterson, her siblings Shaina Peterson, Devra (Ian) Brick, Robbie Peterson, her son Antaous, his father Cory, her niece Hayze and many other family and friends. KRUPPA (Kamaranski) Nellie Agnes 2008-05-13 Mrs. Nellie Kruppa, formerly of 363 E. Brock Street, passed away peacefully with her family by her side at Pinewood Court on Saturday, May 10, 2008, shortly before her 89th birthday. A life long resident of Thunder Bay, Nellie grew up in Stanley Park (Westfort) attending Crawford Elementary and Selkirk Vocational High School prior to marrying Alexander J. Kruppa in 1939. Nellie held a number of jobs including working at the Orphium Grill, Canada Car, Great Lakes Paper, Sears, Ideal Kitchen Centre and Lakehead Stenographic. She thoroughly enjoyed her family, home and garden, summers at Shebandowan, playing the mandolin and caring for numerous children, making her "Auntie Nellie" to many. Nellie was predeceased by Alex, her husband of 50 years, her parents Sophia and Angus Kamaranski, brother William Kamaranski and sisters Alice Maradyn and Minnie Huber. She is survived by her daughters, Lorraine Alexander and Lynda (Greg) Kemp; brother Donald (Kay) Kamaranski; grandchildren Darryl Alexander, John (Martha) McClelland, Jodie (Doug) Dougan, Tricia (Gary) Littlefield and Paige Alexander; great-grandchildren Nicholas, Tessa, Ava, Sarah, Ella, Hannah and Jeffrey as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Friday, May 16, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at Jenkens Funeral Home. GVORA, Steve (Ripsaw) 2008-05-13 Mr. Steve Gvora, age 82 years, resident of Grandview Lodge passed away peacefully at T.B.R.H.S.C. with family by his side on Sunday, May 11, 2008. Steve was employed with Canada Steamship Lines for 37 1/2 years until its closure in 1980. Steve enjoyed back yard work, puttering in the yard shed and fishing at the Neebing River and Empire dock. He also enjoyed the casino, spending time with his family and friends and visiting relatives. Steve is survived by his children Eddie, Diane Nowak (Walter), Doreen and William, grandchildren Tracy and Kellie Nowak, Kevin Gvora (Domenica) Brian Voss and Billy Jr. Great grandchildren Victoria, Alexa, Alyssa, Jennifer and Kara. He is also survived by one brother, Peter Gvora. Steve was predeceased by his wife Helen on January 12, 2008, his parents John and Theresa and brother John. According to Steve‘s wishes, cremation has taken place. Funeral mass will be held at St. Peter‘s Roman Catholic Church on Friday, May 16, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. celebrated by Rev. Wayne Bolton s.j. Interment of the ashes to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Lung Association would be gratefully appreciated. A tree will be planted in memory of Steve Gvora in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove. Annual dedication service Sunday, June 28, 2009.

VAUTOUR, PHILLIP JOSEPH - The death of Phillip Joseph Vautour, husband of the late Jacqueline (Bradford) Vautour, occurred on Sunday May 11, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born 1926 in Saint John he was the son of the late Joseph Basil and Geneveive (LeBlanc) Vautour. Phillip worked as a Plastic Molder for Plastic Craft for 31 years, retiring in 1992. He enjoyed hunting and fishing but was happiest when he was surrounded by his family. He is survived by his son Steven Vautour (Angela) of Saint John; daughter Debbie Dawson (Vautour) of Saint John; two grandchildren Zachery and Brittany; brother Norman Vautour (Amy) of Musquodobit Harbour, NS; sisters Verna LeBlanc of Saint John and Imelda Sunderland (Frank) of Bradford, ON; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and wife he was predeceased by brothers Arthur and Maxim. STAUFFER, THOMAS JOSEPH - Thomas Stauffer of Saint John died peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital on May 11, 2008. Born on December 4, 1931 in Flint, Michigan to Thomas and Alma (Williams) Stauffer. He was brought up in London, Ontario and moved to Saint John in 1963. Tom worked at Sommerville Industries, Wayside Industries, Consolidated Bathurst, Maritime Paper and CBC Radio. He was an avid hunter and fisher and belonged to the Atlantic Salmon Federation, Hammond River Association and Balls Lake Fishing Club. "Never met a person who didn't like or respect Tom". Survived by his wife, Violet (Collins); son, Thomas (Theresa) of Quispamsis; daughter, Linda (Fred) Sherwood of Saint John; four grandchildren, Ann Marie, Jennifer, Ryan and Matt; three great-grandchildren, R.T., Jacob, and Lydia; two brothers, James (Lorraine) Stauffer of Florida and Watrous (Nancy) Stauffer of London, Ontario. RICHARD, CÉCILE MARIE - The death of Cécile Richard of Winslow Street, Saint John, occurred suddenly at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Sunday, May 11, 2008. She was born in Moncton, NB on October 25, 1958 to Thérèse (Doiron) Richard and the late Léo Richard. Cécile worked at the Saint John Regional Hospital as a ward clerk in the Hostel Unit. She was a loving mother to her daughter, Natasha Richard. Besides her daughter, Natasha, Cécile is survived by eight siblings, Robert Richard (Ginette), Léo-Paul Richard (Mary), Monique Daigle (Vincent), Camille Richard (Susan), Aline McGraw (Joanne), Edgar Richard (Jeannette), Bella Arsenault (Yvon) and Denise Babin (Paul); two godchildren, Tammy Skelding and Nicholas Brien; special friend, Raymond Smith and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. LAND, E. CAROLYN - The passing of Ethel Carolyn (Goodeill) Land, of Saint John, NB, wife of the late Wilfred M. Land, occurred on Saturday, May 10, 2008 at the Loch Lomond Villa Inc. Born in St. George, NB, she was a daughter of the late Leslie and Nellie (Wheaton) Goodeill. Carolyn graduated from the Saint John General Hospital School of Nursing in 1941 as a Registered Nurse. She rose to Night Supervisor before retiring to raise her family. She was a member of the Saint John General Hospital Alumni. She attended All Saints Anglican Church, Park Avenue. Carolyn is survived by two sons, David (Barb) Land of Barrie, ON, James (Mary Lynn) Land of Saint John, NB; one daughter, Ruth (Ronald) Cullen of Saint John, NB; seven grandchildren, Derek (Jacqueline), Alicia (Gord), Robert, DJ, Tara (Douglas) Barton, Kristin and Robyn; three great-grandchildren, Alastair, Carter and Dawson; several much-loved cousins, nieces and nephews. She leaves behind many dear and valued friends with whom she shared a smile. Patricia "Pat" A. Gallagher 1922 - 2008 With her well-worn bible close by, Patricia A. Gallagher moved on to be with her parents, Percy and Ivy (Mollins) Gallagher, and with her dear sister Deborah. Patricia passed away at the Moncton Hospital on May 11th, 2008 following a lengthy period of failing health. Born in Moncton in 1922, Pat was a graduate of Moncton High School. She was a member of the Parkside Baptist Church where she had sung in the choir and had also taught Sunday school. Pat also was a member of the Lois Winters Missionary Society. After working at Mr. Bray's Pansy Shoppe for 30 years, Pat joined the administration staff at the Moncton Community College from where she retired after 11 years. Pat's greatest joys were her many friendships, her flower garden, her horses, and her many wonderful dogs over the years. Pat is survived by several cousins. There will be a brief viewing prior to the funeral service, which will be held at Tuttle Brothers Memorial Chapel, 171 Lutz Street, Moncton on Wednesday May 14, 2008 at 11:00am with Rev. Lillian Marie Archibald With great sadness, the family announces the passing of Lillian Marie Archibald (Doucet) of Archibald Settlement, NB, which occurred on May 12, 2008 at the Campbellton Regional Hospital at the age of 79. Born in Becketville, NB, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence Doucet and Hectorine Haché. Lillian is survived by her husband, Gordon; son, Wayne (Clare) of Moncton; daughter, Esther of Fredericton; grandsons, Jeff and Patrick; two brothers, Austin (Alice) and John (Margaret); four sisters, Mary, Agnes, Jeanette and Ann Marie (Raymond) all of Jacquet River; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, Paul Hickey; an infant son, John; and one sister, Patsy. She was a long time member of the St. Gabriel's Catholic Women's League and the Jacquet River Golden Age Club. Lillian loved her family above all. She also loved to cook, knit, play cards, cheer for the Toronto Blue Jays, and watch curling. Lillian enjoyed gardening and flowers. Visitation at St. Gabriel's Funeral Parlour, Jacquet River, will be on Wednesday, 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm. Roberta Aitken November 27, 1919 - May 11, 2008 It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of our mother, Roberta Aitken on May 11, 2008 at the Lakeshore General Hospital in Ashern, Manitoba. She lived in the Ashern Personal Care Home. Roberta was born on November 27, 1919. In 1937, she married Charles Aitken and they lived in Winnipeg for a while before moving back to the farm in Moosehorn. Mom never got tired of helping others and enjoyed company. Roberta leaves to mourn her two daughters, Margret and Beverley of Moosehorn; her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; one sister, Esther of Winnipeg; and her brother Bill of Red Deer, Alberta. Roberta was predeceased by her husband Charles in 1985; son Chuck in 1997; daughters, Edith in 2003 and Marion in 1978; sons-in-law, Pete in 2006 and Frank in 2007. Funeral service will be held on Friday, May 16, 2008 at 11:00 a.m., with viewing beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the Moosehorn Community Hall with Reverend Bernd Rist officiating. BAXTER, Marjorie Helen December 18, 1922 - May 8, 2008 Marjorie Helen Baxter of Calgary, passed away on Thursday, May 8, 2008 at the age of 85 years. Helen was born in Swift Current, Sask. on a Sunday evening. Her family moved to many locations throughout Canada as her father performed his duties as a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Helen considered Weyburn, Sask. her home and was a proud graduate of its educational system. She followed her father's thirty-five year calling by serving thirty-six years with the RCMP as a highly respected stenographer. She took great pride in being able to greet members and veterans of the force by their regimental numbers even after her retirement. Helen was very involved with the Canadian and International badminton scene. She traveled to many different countries as an International badminton umpire and was always willing to lend her support to a sport she loved. She will be remembered for her cheerful personality and helpfulness to one and all. She leaves behind family and friends that she loved and relied on. Helen was predeceased by her father Frank Penhold Baxter; mother Daisy Caroline Baxter (O'Hare) and brother Frank Gilbert Baxter. BULMAN, George (Jody) Aged 40, passed away suddenly but peacefully in his sleep in Ottawa on May 6. Born in Quebec City, Jody was raised in Dartmouth but spent most of his adult life in Toronto where he was employed by Canada Post. Jody had a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Manitoba and was currently enrolled in a Masters program in Underwater Archaeology at the University of Flinders in Australia. An avid outdoorsman, his pursuits included scuba diving, sea kayaking, and sailing. He was a member of the Canadian Forces Naval Reserve for many years in Halifax and Toronto, and in recent years he served in the Army Reserve in Toronto. Jody is survived by his parents Kenneth and Doreen Bulman of Halifax, sister Jill of Edmonton, and brother Marc of Toronto. His ashes will be placed in the ocean at a future time. HART, Charles In hospice care near his home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on May 9, 2008, after a valiant battle with cancer. Born May 20, 1925 in Ottawa, Ontario, Charlie is survived by his devoted wife, Barbara (nee Edmunds, also of Ottawa); sisters Vera Stoody (Kitchener, Ontario) and Norah Proulx (Hull, Quebec); sister-in-law Dolores Hart (Ottawa, Ontario); his five sons: Michael (Jan), Charles (Catherine), Christopher (Christine), Geoffrey (Sarah), and Kevin; and 10 grandchildren, all of whom loved him dearly. To family and friends who knew him well, Charlie will forever be remembered as a leader who never complained, as an international businessman who had travelled the world, and as a sportsman with a keen sense of fun and fairplay. In all respects, he was a modern gentleman of the old school, one who earned great success in life, and whose kindness, generosity, wit and integrity touched many lives. He will be greatly missed. Don was a lifetime member of APPEGA, President of Irving Industries (Foothills Steel Foundry Division Ltd.), and a Director of Irving Holdings and Irving Wire Division. He also held offices in Amer. Foundry Association of Alberta (Chairman), Calgary United Fund, St. Philip's Anglican Church, the Boy Scout Association (Cubmaster), and the Calgary Diabetes Association (as a Fundraiser). Don was formerly employed with M.W. Kellogg in New York, Carter Halls Aldinger in Winnipeg, C.I.L. Neepawa in Manitoba, the Department of Munition and Supply (shipbuilding in Ottawa), and Dominion Rubber in Montreal. JOHNSTON, Bower Ernest WWII Veteran RCAF Bomber Navigator In Ottawa on Monday, May 12, 2008 at age 95. Beloved husband of the late Winnifred "Poppy" (nee Perrin) and father of Judy. Devoted Grandpa to Mark Moffatt (Shannon) and the late Margo and Heather Moffatt. Great Grand- father to his namesake Matthew Bower Moffatt. Predeceased by his sisters Hilda Laity and Emma Nicolet. Ernie was an auto mechanic with Myers Motors for over 35 years. Friends are invited to visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street on Wednesday from 7-9 pm.
