SYMONS, Joan 2008-03-28 It is with great sadness that the family of the late Joan Symons announces her passing at the T.B.R.H.S.C. on Thursday, March 27, 2008. She was predeceased by her husband, Cyril, in 1993. She is survived by her son Robert (Nikki Burns) and daughter Evelyne Baca (Gord Nicholson); grandson Gordon Burns; granddaughters Angela (Dave) Boone; Linda and Nina Baca; great grandchildren Ethan and Abbey Boone as well as by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Cremation has taken place and in accordance with Joan’s wishes a private family service will be held at a later date. If desired, donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated. BROWN, Gene Elizabeth 2008-03-28 Mrs. Gene Elizabeth Brown, age 82 years, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at TBRHSC with her family by her side. Gene was born in Port Arthur on January 9, 1926 but was raised and educated in Fort William. In her younger years she worked at Abitibi Mission Mill. She worked at Chapples Department Store, the Lakehead Psychiatric Hospital for the Ministry of Health and retired from the Ministry of Natural Resources in 1987. Gene was a member of the Girl Guides of Canada Local Association, the Rebecca Lodge, the Canadian Daughters League, the Air Cadet League of Northwestern Ontario, the MNR Retirees Club as well as an active life-long member of St. Paul‘s Anglican Church. Her main interests included her family and friends, camping at Mawn Lake, traveling, bowling, playing cards with her bridge club or watching the Toronto Blue Jays on television. Gene will be sadly missed by her children: Tom (Linda), Fred (Maureen), Marjorie (Rob) and Neil; grandsons: Roy (Ferial), Bill and Frank; great grandchildren: Justin, Christopher and Linda; brothers George (Vera) Kearney and Frank (Mary) Kearney. Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive. Gene was predeceased by her mother Agnes in 1966 and her father Fred in 1998. Funeral services for the late Mrs. Gene Brown will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, March 31, 2008 at St. Paul‘s Anglican Church with Fr. Michael Dunnill officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday evening from 7:00 until 9:00 P.M. at the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James. If friends so desire memorial donations made to St. Paul‘s Anglican Church would be greatly appreciated.

ARMSTRONG, MURIEL FERNE The passing of Muriel F. Armstrong of Geary, NB occurred at the Dr. Chalmers Regional Hospital in Fredericton on March 27th, 2008, at the age of 86. Born in Woodstock, NB, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Mary (Jones) Wallace and wife of the late Bruce Armstrong. INNIS, John Clark (Clarkie) A well known and respected Charlottetown businessman, John Clark (Clarkie) Innis died on Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. He was 94 years of age. Both Clarkie and his son, Kenny, operated a very successful Hambly & Innis Men's Wear Clothing Store in downtown Charlottetown with a history that dates back to its inception in 1949. Up until recently he worked in the day-to-day operation of the family business. Mr. Innis was the beloved husband of the late Kathleen (Kay) (nee Acorn) Innis, and dear father, of Gloria (Ross) Gilmore of Dartmouth, N.S., and Ken (Pauline) Innis of Charlottetown. He will also be sadly missed, but fondly remembered, by his grandchildren, Jason (Karen) Gilmore, Jill Gilmore, both of Dartmouth, Ryan Innis and Kyle Innis, both of Charlottetown, and his numerous nieces and nephews. The last living member of his family, he was predeceased by his parents, Roderick and Laura Jane (Clark) Innis; sisters and brothers, Arabelle Baillie of California, Charles Innis of Ont., Jean Grenier of B.C., Eleanor Innis and Smith (Doc) Innis, both of Pictou County, N.S. WADDELL, Roger William Peacefully, surrounded by family, at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, on Wednesday, March 26, 2008, of Roger William Waddell, of Charlottetown, in his 77th year. Son of the late Clarence and Helen (Darrach) Waddell. He leaves to mourn his wife Maisie (McMahon); son, Peter (Clare); daughter, Tanya Sheridan (Aidan) and sister, Joan DesRoches (Fred); grandchildren, Laura, Maggie, Charles and Ian Waddell, Jevan Walker, Colin and Katie Sheridan; cousins, Ethel (Bud) MacKenzie and Janice Boyko, and special cousin, Marjorie Irving. Roger was predeceased by his son, Shawn; brother, Allison and sister, Shirley. Resting at the Hillsboro Funeral Home, 2 Hollis Ave., Stratford. TRENTOWSKY, MARGARET ALLEGRA - Margaret Allegra Trentowsky of the Loch Lomond Villa, Saint John, passed away at her residence on Thursday, March 27, 2008. Born in Saint John, she was a daughter of the late Stewart E. and Gertrude M. (Allen) Trentowsky. Margaret was formerly employed with Chandler Sales, and was a member of the Pythian Sisters Loyalist Temple # 13, the L.O.B.A. Dominion Lodge # 18, and the Auxiliary of the Loch Lomond Villa, where she also volunteered. Margaret was also a member of the Church of St. Andrew and St. David. Margaret is survived by two sisters, Joan Godfrey of Saint John, and Mary Ann Plume of Saint John; two brothers, Stewart Trentowsky (Patricia) of Saint John, and Rev. George Trentowsky (Charlotte) of Saint John; and by 12 nieces and nephews. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Saturday from 7-9 and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. SEYMOUR, MARGARET MAY (1917 - 2008) - At the Upper River Valley Hospital Waterville, Margaret May Seymour of Bath passed away at the age of 90. Born at Musquash, NB, on May 1, 1917, daughter of the late Leonard & Katherine (Morrison) Cougle and wife of the late John MacFarlane Seymour. Margaret was a secretary for 55 years, 25 of those at McCain Foods Florenceville. She enjoyed bridge, crossword puzzles and most of all, spending time with her family and many friends at River View Manor Bath. Margaret is survived by her daughter, Betty (David) Hatt; grandchildren, Pamela (Michael) Burtt and Andrew (Ellen) Hatt; great grandchildren, Levi and Rachael Burtt; nieces, nephews and cousins. EMBLETON, RETA ARLENE (STEWART) - It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Reta Arlene Embleton, wife of the late Dick Embleton, on March 26th, 2008 at the Charlotte County Hospital. Born on October 16th, 1931, in Pleasant Ridge, NB. Reta was the daughter of the late Charles and Pearl (Boles) Stewart. Reta is survived by two daughters, Lynn Underhill (Jim), Fredericton, NB, Wendy Sweeney (John Gallway) St. Stephen, NB, and one son, Trent Embleton (Susan), St. Stephen, NB; special friend, John McCabe, Markham, Ontario; sisters, Bernice Giddens and Marie McPheters (Fred); one brother, Bill Stewart (Rose) and several nieces and nephews. COX, BARBARA (nee McDonald) - Passed away peacefully after a long and courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, March 25th at the Collingwood General & Marine Hospital in her 61st year. Barbara, beloved partner of Ed Leakey and cherished mother of Heather and Louise, will be always be remembered by her precious granddaughters Brittany and Keziah, sons-in-law Peter Hilson and Harry Burgler, as well as many friends she considered to be family including Evelyn and Linda Parker, Wendy Farness and Barb Leakey to name just a few. Surviving siblings include Betty, Reginald, Ross and Gloria, as well as siblings of her late husband James Cox including Ron (Eve), Irene (Norm) Hendry, Ann (Bob) Rawn, Bill (Karen) and the late Barb (Earle) Osburn. She was also predeceased by sisters Marg (Doug) Jeffries, Frieda, Doreen and brothers Albert and Bob. Barb was also a special Aunt to Sharon and Doug (Gina) Jefferies, Calvin McDonald; Randy, Roxanna (George), Rob (Gayle), Joyce, Jerry (Marie), Greg, Earl (Sue), and the late Rick (Connie) Osburn; Sharon (John) VanderKrabben, Robert, James (Carl), Michael and Jeffrey (Katrina) Rawn; Sherry (Wayne) Pfeffer and Terry (Sherald) Cox; Doug (Lois), Jane, Norm, Bob, Ann and John Hendry; Joshua and Bradley. Barb will also be sadly missed by the younger generation in her network of family and friends including Jennifer & Jessica Rolling, Jesse & Carlee Lawson and numerous other great nieces and nephews. Throughout her life Barb showed incredible determination in overcoming adversity and always appreciated having her days brightened by family, friends, former neighbours, Bendix co-workers and Laundry Factory customers. She choose to be grateful for what came her way rather than to complain about what didn't and, while receiving excellent care from Dr. Quigg, CCAC, hospice workers and nursing staff on the second floor of the G&M Hospital during her final months, was able to eloquently remind us all about what is truly important in life. May her spirit live on to help make the world a better place. Née le 27 mars 1908 à Cap-Pelé, elle était la fille de feu Jean Forest et de feu Minnie Donnelle. COLLINS, JUDY A. - Judy A. Collins of Saint John, wife of Carl K. Collins, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John, she was a daughter of the late William Joseph and Teresa Rebecca (Tobin) Gulliver. Judy was a graduate and Valedictorian of St. Vincent's High School (1956), and the New Brunswick Teacher's College (1957). She taught in local schools before joining Air Canada where she met her husband, and worked before leaving the workforce to raise her family. After her family had grown, she joined with her son Greg in operating a travel business, Collins Tours & Consulting Ltd. A member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Rothesay, Judy's greatest joy in life was her family and all of her dear friends who were always welcome in her home. She was a true "people person" who always lifted the spirits of everyone; to know her was to love her. Judy was an avid member of local theatre and operetta groups. In addition to her husband, Judy is survived by her son, T. Gregory Collins of Saint John; her daughters Patricia M. Collins of Newmarket, Ontario, Jacqueline M. (Joel) Elliott of Tacoma, Washington, and Katherine B. (Patrick) McDonough of Boston, Massachusetts; sisters Sr. Rhona M. Gulliver of Saint John, Patricia A. (Laurie) Roberts of Saint John, and Dorothy J. Britton of Saint John; four grandchildren, Bridgitt, Quinn, Grace, and Liam; several nieces and nephews; and many friends. Judy was predeceased by brothers Richard and Terence Gulliver. BROWN, Antonie (Tonie) Rosa April 1, 1912 - January 29, 2008 A Memorial Service will be held for Tonie Brown at McInnis & Holloway's Crowfoot Chapel (82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.) on April 1, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. In 1938, Tonie obtained her masters certificate in cosmetology from the Maxine College of Beauty Culture in Vancouver, B.C. She instructed in her profession briefly before practicing hair dressing in Jasper and Calgary. In 1947 she married William (Bill) who predeceased her in 1988. They had no children. Bridge was her passion, and she was very proud of the gold and silver medals she won in the Calgary Summer Games, and Zone 3 finals. She was one of the Alberta representatives in the Canada Senior games which were held in Summerside, P.E.I. in 2002. Tonie resided at Valley Ridge Lodge for four enjoyable years prior to entering the long-term care facility in Canmore, before spending her final days in the Bow Crest care centre in Calgary. Among those who were most close to her, Tonie is survived by her niece Betty (Brian) Monaghan; nephews, George (Ida) Kubicek, Douglas (Sharon) Kubicek, Robert (Mila) Kubicek; and her niece-in-law, Nora (Bill) Smart. CRAIG, William (Bill) Morley March 19, 1941 - March 25, 2008 Bill Craig, beloved husband of Ann Craig of Calgary, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at the age of 67 years, after a battle with cancer. Bill would like everyone to know he's gone on a camping trip to enjoy fishing and hunting. LOWE, Alexander Sinclair Alexander Sinclair Lowe passed away suddenly at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary on Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at the age of 87 years. Alex is lovingly remembered by his wife of nearly sixty years, Iona (nee McMillan); his son Frank and his wife Susan of Calgary; son Jeff and fiancee Nicole Rubeor of Aiken, South Carolina; and grandchildren Courtenay, Keirstin, Dylan, Tyler and Ashley, all of Calgary. RICHARDSON, Jean Alvera (Vera) (nee Reid) September 3, 1921 - March 26, 2008 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Vera Richardson on Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at the age of 86 years. Vera looks forward to being reunited, after sixteen years, with her husband, Dr. Thomas Albert Richardson. Vera Richardson was born in Thorburn, NS on September 3, 1921. She graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal, QC in 1944. Vera then moved west with her husband to Calgary, where she raised her family. Vera is survived by her children, Judy (Ken) Zender of Parkland County, AB, Linda Richardson and Rick McPhail of St. Albert, AB, Barbara Richardson, and Don (Nancy) Richardson of Calgary; her grandchildren, Shayne (Stevie) Zender, Chad (Tiffany) Zender, Codie (Matt) Richard, Hayley and Casey McPhail, Quinn Richardson, Brett Hugh, and Cole Richardson; and her great-grandchild Hudson Zender, all of whom will always treasure her. Vera is also survived by her brother James (Joan) of BC; and her sister-in-law Catherine Harradence of Calgary. Vera was predeceased by her brothers John Reid of Thorburn and Dennis Reid of Edmonton; and her brother-in-law Justice Milton Harradence of Calgary. The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. John Bradley and the nursing staff at the Carewest George Boyack for the compassionate care they gave to our mother. SEIFRED, Dorothy Eva (Johnston) Dorothy passed away peacefully on January 2, 2008, at the age of 88 at Mt. Tolmie Extended Care Hospital in Victoria, following a stroke. She will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her family: son John of Vancouver; daughter Anne Kirkaldy, husband Ron and grandchildren Ewan and Allison of Victoria; son Bruce, wife Sandra Sobko and grandson Stefan of Calgary; and son Grant, wife Marilyn and grandchildren Alexander and Natasha of Burlington, Ontario. Dorothy was predeceased in 2004 by her loving husband of sixty-one years, Edward, in 1988 by her eldest son Edward (Ted), and in the previous decade by her younger brother Robert of Los Angeles, California. Born on April 1, 1919, in Winnipeg, Dorothy graduated from the University of Manitoba with a BA and BEd. There she met Ed. They married in 1943 and started a family after Ed's service overseas. Dorothy always maintained a loving home throughout their frequent transfers across Western Canada in support of Ed's career as a comptroller for Hudson's Bay Company. In 1978 Dorothy and Ed retired to Victoria where they honed their golf and bridge skills, travelled the world and first experienced the joys of grandparenting. MATHESON, Rose June (nee Zadorozny) On March 24, 2008 Mom died peacefully with her family at her bedside. She was born June 19, 1927 in Calgary and attended Belfast Elementary, Crescent Heights and Langevin schools. She worked for Union Packers and the Calgary Petroleum Club. She married Dad, Dave Matheson on October 5, 1945. They were together sixty years when he passed away in June 2006. Mom was always active and independent. She enjoyed going to the Shouldice Pool for deep water workout three times a week and afterwards to the DQ for coffee with the ladies. She will be lovingly remembered by her children Penny, Dianne (Ted), Dave (Terrelynn), grandchildren Terri (James), James Jay, Amanda (Peter), Kathleen, Tyson, Brad and Cody; great-grandchildren Kaitlin, Tyler and Abigail; brothers Paul (Eileen) and Ted, as well as her nieces and nephews. We would like to thank the Calgary EMS, the Foothills Hospital ER Staff, Unit 100 and Unit 111 for their kind, compassionate care of our mother and their support for her family. CHAMBERS, Leonard 2008-03-28 Mr. Leonard George Chambers, 95 years of Thunder Bay, passed away peacefully in St. Joseph’s Care Group, Hospice Unit on March 27, 2008. Leonard was born in Greenwich, England February 4, 1913. His mother Florence died in the 1918 influenza epidemic and left his father George unable to care for his children. The family was scattered to work, foster care and orphanages. Len and brother Jim went to the National Children’s Home in Bramhope, Yorkshire. At age 14, presented with the choice of working in England, Australia or Canada, Len chose Canada. He was always grateful he made that choice. He and Jim, arrived in Hamilton, Ontario in 1927 as Home Boys and were separated to work on farms distant from each other. Len left the farm at the start of the Depression and went on to ride the rails, work as a pastry chef, and rebuild Citadel Hill. On the day of Canada’s war declaration he enlisted with the 9th Field Battery as a gunner. Serving in the Battle of Britain, he was medically discharged. He twice re-enlisted; he was honourably discharged both times. He then joined the Merchant Marine and worked as a cook on the boats to the Caribbean. He continued to serve his country when he became one of the first WWII veterans to join the Ontario Provincial Police in 1943. He loved his life as a police officer, working as a detective, detachment commander, Traffic Sergeant and retiring as Staff Sergeant in Thunder Bay in 1973. Len’s love of life and storytelling will be forever missed by Violet, his wife of 60 years, his daughter Ellen Chambers Picard, grandchildren Kezia Picard (Rory Bohler), Claire Picard (Aaron Bourque), Gabriel Picard (Christopher Sherlock), sister-in-law Irene Maycock, niece Hilary Pyper, nephews Peter and Tim Maycock and David Chambers, and beloved friends David Picard, Ellen and Tim Hunt, Sarena Knapik, Ronnie Hayes, Marie Skaf, Mary and Ralph Meredith and Lina Downing and all of the OPP vets and police officers whom he admired and cherished so much. Scampi will miss him. Len was predeceased by a daughter Connie and son James (Jim), brothers Fred, Jim, and Bert Chambers and recently, sister Joan Blaxter. Leonard loved to tell stories and we all loved to hear them. Together, Len and Vi were passionate gardeners, avid birders, painters, woodworkers, tinkerers of all things mechanical and nature lovers. Len loved his dogs, never being without one. He loved his family above all. His children Jim and Ellen were always with him, and he instilled in them a love of adventure and fun, curiosity and questioning. He was always eager to exchange opinions with others decades younger than him, giving him much joy and in the course of this many became part of his broad reaching family. Len lived his life with a great generosity towards everyone, regardless of their viewpoints, background or circumstances. Funeral Services for Leonard Chambers will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1st, 2008 in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the time of Service. MATTHEWS, Mary Dorothy (nee Francis) - Peacefully with her family by her side on March 11, 2008. Born in Delhi India, Mary was the youngest of seven siblings. Mary worked as a telephone operator before meeting her husband, Sydney “Tex“ Matthews, originally from Kirkland Lake Ontario, who was stationed in India with the British Army. In 1945 Mary travelled by ship to Canada with her husband and two daughters, Katherine 3 and Dellsi 9 months, and settled in Kirkland Lake Ontario, where she would raise her family. When her husband passed on in 1967, Mary moved to Orillia to be closer to her daughter Dellsi and her family. She brightened the lives and gave much love and support to Dellsi, her son-in-law Ken McCann and her three granddaughters Vicki, Gina and Tracey. Active well into her late seventies, Mary practiced yoga and was an avid walker. She was also a member of the Guardian Angels choir. Mary spent her last few years with her daughter Katherine and her family in Windsor Ontario. Mary, “Mugga,“ Matthews will always be remembered by her loved ones as a gentle, fun-loving, kind and inspirational woman. Loving wife of the late Sydney (1967). AMYOT, Lionel 1920 - 2008 À Ste-Martine, le 27 mars 2008, est décédé, à l'âge de 87 ans, M. Lionel Amyot, époux de feu Mme Mariette Thibert. Très impliqué socialement, il a été maire de St-Paul de Châtauguay et préfet de la MRC de 1965 à 1977. Il a aussi reçu la médaille du Gouverneur général du Canada. Précédé dans la mort par son fils Gilles, il laisse dans le deuil ses enfants Serge, Claude (Josée), Michel, Gisèle (Richard), dix petits-enfants et onze arrière-petits-enfants. Il laisse également ses soeurs Marie-Berthe et Fernande ainsi que sa belle-soeur Monique Thibert (Lionel Tremblay). La famille recevra les condoléances à la résidence funéraire J.M. Loiselle 22, rue Picard Ste-Martine le vendredi soir de 19 h 30 à 22 h. Les funérailles auront lieu le samedi 29 mars à 11 h en l'église paroissiale de Ste-Martine. Ouverture du salon dès 9 h. CWINN, Sidney Peacefully at his home on Wednesday, March 26, 2008, surrounded by his family at the age of 83. Husband, partner and best friend of the late Pearl Cwinn. Loving father of Seth (Consuelo) and Adam (Helen). Grandfather of Matthew, Eli and Graham. Brother of Bella Levitin. Uncle of Sharon (Harvey) Segal. Brother-in-law of Laura and Jerome Burdman. Cherished friend of June Dymond. Special friend of Robert Robertson. Much appreciation to Mayer and Helen Alvo for all their support. To those of us who truly knew him, he was the quintessential Renaissance man. A medaled war-time sailor, consummate equestrian, producer and host of the television series The Magic of Horses, developer, lawyer, builder, financier, philanthropist, world traveler , adventurer and world hiker, artist, published author and poet. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A funeral service will be held at the Jewish Memorial Gardens (Cwinn Chapel), Osgoode on March 28, 2008 at 11:30am. Shiva Private.
