ALLEN, THEODORE LEWIS The passing of Theodore Lewis Allen, of Penniac, N.B, occurred on Sunday, March 16, 2008 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on August 12, 1919, in Penniac, N.B, Theodore was the son of the late Ernest and Nellie (King) Allen. Theodore enjoyed fishing, hunting and was a true Toronto Maple Leafs Fan. Theodore is survived by one son; Richard Allen (Margaret) of Fredericton; one daughter, Leigh Painter (Greg) of Rusagonis, N.B; one brother, Ernest Allen of Fredericton; four grandchildren, Bill Hill, Wendy Hill Carter, Katherine Szo, Rick Allen; eight great-grandchildren, Corey, Drew, Robynne, Tyler, Jonathan, Jackson, Delaney, Leah; one great-great-grandchild, Noah; several nieces and nephews and his care giver and special friend, Karen Hazlett. Besides his parents, Theodore was predeceased by four brothers, Bryden, Wendell, Oscar, Arthur Allen; and three sisters, Gertie Stafford, Pearl Hanson and Eleanor Allen. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 18, 2008 from 7 to 9 pm. A memorial service will be held from York Funeral Home's T Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at 11 am with Rev. Lona Johnston officiating. MacLEOD, Alastair. Suddenly, on March 13, 2008 at the young age of eighty-eight. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Al was a devoted and loving husband to Adele for forty-eight years, a wonderful father to Myrna (married to Roland) and Keith (married to Echo), and a doting grandfather to David, Peter and Grace. Al was a veteran of World War II, a Mason, a member of the Scottish Rite and a very active member of Northlea United Church for over forty-five years. His greatest joys came from being married to Adele and seeing his family grow. Al will be remembered for his beautiful smile and kind and generous heart. REARDON, Kenneth Joseph. 1921-2008. Peacefully at Residence Desjardins, Saint-Sauveur, on Saturday, March 15, 2008 at the age of eighty-six. He will be sadly missed by his wife Suzanne Raymond, his daughter Catherine (Peter Govan), his sons Don (Betty), Ken and Tony, his Govan grandchildren James, Ashley and Lindsey, his Reardon grandsons Calder, Schuyler and Desmond, and his many nieces and nephews. He was predreceased by his sister Patricia Jeffrey and his brothers Terry and Larry. Ken Reardon will be remembered as a member of the Montreal Canadiens both as a player in the 1940s and later as vice president of the hockey club. He was a decorated World War II veteran. COPP, GRACE DORIS - The death of Grace Doris Copp, wife of the late Arden Leslie Copp, occurred on March 16, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Apple River, NS, she was the daughter of the late Everett and Helen (Scott) Field. She was an active member of the Church of St Andrew and St David. She was a Registered Nurse and was employed with the Saint John General Hospital and then the Saint John Regional Hospital before her retirement. Her life of service continued in her retirement as she served on the Board of Directors of Hospice Saint John and was active with the Food Bank. She enjoyed life and traveled extensively. Surviving are her son, Roderick Arden Copp and his wife Denice of Quispamsis, NB; brother Donald Field and his wife Marguerite of New Minas, NS; sister, Jennie O'Brien of Richmond Hill, ON; and several nieces and nephews. Her brothers, Raymond and Sydney Field; and sister, Margaret Mitton predeceased her. BURGESS, ROSE J. - The death of Rose J. Burgess, widow of George Burgess, occurred at Rocmaura Nursing Home on Saturday, March 15, 2008. She was born in Dipper Harbour, a daughter of the late Daniel and Rosella (Kerrigan) Murray. She had been assistant manager of Henry Birks & Son for 48 years until her retirement a number of years ago. She was the late surviving member of her immediate family and is survived by two nieces, one nephew, and several step-children. DICK, George Jay - It is with deep sorrow the family of George Jay Dick announces his sudden passing 10 days short of his 95th birthday. He leaves behind his beloved wife Norma. BURDEN, IRIS SOUTHERN In her 88th year, Iris Southern Burden passed away on March 14, 2008 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton, New Brunswick. Born in Manchestire, Lancashire, England on June 20, 1919 to Florence (Farrell) and Joseph Heaton Southern, Iris attended Louther College in South Wales. Iris is survived by sons, Christopher (Barbara), Michael (Margaret Ann), Peter (Mexie Briggs), Nicholas (Ruby); daughters, Beverley (David DeLong) Martha (Kevin Gillrie), Betty; 15 grandchildren, five great grandchildren; sister in law, Betty Woodside (George); nephews, Paul Ripley, Lee Woodside, Roy Woodside and Paul Woodside; nieces, Christine Stevenson, Allyson Woodside and Connie Woodside. She was predeceased by her husband, Paul E. Burden; daughter, Penny Morrisette; infant grandson, only sibling Constance Ripley; and parents, Joseph Southern and Florence. Enlisting in the W.A.F.F. in Gloucester, England (May, 1941), Iris was soon promoted to Section Officer. When stationed at R.A.F. Station Castle Combe, England , she met her future husband, Paul E. Burden. Married in Elkton, Maryland, U.S.A. in 1947, their life as a couple began. Recipient of the Defence Medal and War Medal, Iris served her country, England, with honor. Iris mastered everything she turned her hand to, attributing much of her love and knowledge of home making to her mother in law, Myrtle Burden, whom she dearly loved. She was know to be an expert in the kitchen and couturier in her own right, possessing a sense of style and grace that became a legend in her time. As a young bride, Iris managed the office of 'Paul Burden Limited' from their home on 679 Montgomery Street and assisted in the management of the Montgomery Street Animal Clinic. While raising children and a menagerie of animals, dashounds, Siamese cats and budgie birds to name but a few. Possessing an amazing knowledge of animal husbandry, she and Paul also breed bullmastiffs. Her love of nature and all living things was mirrored throughout her life. Iris and her late husband, Paul, raised a family of eight children yet always made room for more. As their home was the gathering place for their children's friends, seldom was there an empty seat at their table. Iris was a true matriarch, cherishing her role of wife, mother and grandmother. An accomplished athlete, Iris was an avid swimmer and diver. Her gifts in this area made her the resident 'coach' for many youngsters at Lake George, York County, NB, where she and her family spent many happy summers. Stories of the toll of Nana's school bell calling Iris and Paul's large family to meals, the Burden boat on the lake and their huge family gatherings are told to this day. A woman of substance, Iris was known for her quick wit, infectious humor and unique sense of style. As one possessing both an uncanny command of 'the Queen's English' and conviction, conversation with Iris was always stimulating! Iris was proud of her heritage and loved her country, Canada. She never missed acknowledging Armistice Day and was honored to have been a part of the war effort. Throughout her lifetime she was a member of The Fredericton Kinette Club, Capital Winter Club, Celestial Chapter #3, O.E.S., The Garrison Club, Daughters of the Nile, Royal Canadian Air Force Association, Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #4 , War Bride Association and York South Liberal Association. Honorary pallbearers are Bethany DeLong, Carl Ericson, Penny Ericson, Eric Wright, Anne Reynolds, Viola Theriault, Paul Ripley, Lee, Roy, Paul, Allyson and Connie Woodside, Lorna Smith and Olive Forbes. JOYNT, Mr. John Robert (Bob) - passed away at Woodlands of Sunset on Friday March 14, 2008 in his 86th year. Beloved husband of Dorothy (Storie) Joynt, currently residing at the Woolcott Wing at Welland Hospital. Loving father of Brian and his wife Judy of Guelph and predeceased by his daughter Nancy Schmidt. Dear father-in-law of Lonny Schmidt of Welland. Also loved by his grandchildren David Joynt and his wife Gillian, Paul Joynt and Ryan Schmidt. Survived by his brother George and his wife Mary Ellen Joynt of Welland and brother-in- law Cal and his wife Ann Storie and their families. Mr. Joynt was a Navy Veteran, retired from Atlas Steels after 44 years, 33rd Degree Mason and a member of the Welland Port Colborne Shriners. Following Bob's wishes cremation has taken place. LIDDLE, Helen Willena (Linton) - Peacefully, with her daughter Janet by her side, Helen passed on March 14, 2008 at the London Health Sciences Centre, London, Ontario in her 88th year. Loving wife and best friend for 62 years to Sidney Liddle. Remembering her fun-loving, nurturing spirit are her daughters Bonnie Orvidas and Janet Boyes, granddaughters, Lisa and Debra Orvidas and son- in-law Tony Orvidas. She is survived by her sister and good friend Dorothy Bentley and her extended family of Pomeroy Ridge, New Brunswick. Helen loved her Maritime family and heritage. She will be greatly missed by many lifelong friends whom she held in her heart. Helen is now reunited with her dear daughter Heather Anne Fleming (1975), her parents Lena and Berton Linton and her siblings Ferne, Murray, Boyd, Alice and Christine. In spite of her illness Helen was gracious and appreciative and had a lovely smile for those around her until her passing. SWANSON, Elizabeth Pheobe 2008-03-17 Elizabeth Pheobe Swanson passed away in her sleep on March 14, 2008 in her 96th year. She was born to pioneers Tom and Ethel Miller in Slate River in May of 1912. Bess lived on the family property on highway 61 until she was 88 years old and ill health forced her to move to the city. She and her husband Carl operated the country store and gas bar "C.A. Swanson & Son" for 35 years. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her grandchildren Brooks and Janis Swanson, great grandson Wolf Bannon, daughter-in-law Jean, care giving nieces Linda Stacy and Jean Black, along with many other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Carl in 1971, only son Thorold in November 2007, her parents and siblings and their spouses, Wes and Iris Miller, Clara and Gus Johnson, Mildred and Jack Woods, Doris and Bill Clap, Elva and Tiny Laughton, Ted Miller and other nieces and nephews. Funeral services for the late Mrs. Elizabeth Swanson will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, March 24, 2008 at the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James. McGARRIGLE, Elizabeth 2008-03-17 Elizabeth Helen Elizabeth "Betty" Helen (nee Hosegood), age 85, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2008 at St. Joseph‘s Hospice. She is survived by daughter Jane Ranta (Brian), son Donald, and daughter Patricia Zawacki (Randy Godick). She is also survived by grandchildren, Kiira Ranta (Cameron Bowman), Spencer Ranta, Sarah Zawacki, Ryan Zawacki, brothers George Hosegood (Marjory) and Jack Hosegood. She was married to J. Royden McGarrigle in June 1948, predeceasing her 1999. She was also predeceased by brothers Thomas and James Hosegood and sister Mary Coombs. As per mom‘s wishes there will be no funeral service. Cremation has taken place and interment of ashes will be held at a later date. A celebration of Betty‘s life will be held at St. Andrew‘s Presbyterian Church (on Brodie Street) on Saturday, March 22nd from 1 - 4 p.m. Donations in Elizabeth‘s name may be made to The Heart & Stroke Foundation, The Canadian Diabetes Association or St. Joseph‘s Hospice. BUCKINDALE, Steve February 15, 1959 - March 15, 2008 Stephen Buckindale, beloved husband of Joyce of Calgary, passed away on Saturday, March 15, 2008 at the age of 49 years. Steve was born on February 15, 1959 in Orillia, ON. He was a heavy duty truck technician at Greatwest Kenworth. Steve's passion was snowmobiling. Besides his loving wife Joyce, Steve is also survived by their daughter Sherri and son-in-law Chad Lundberg of High River, AB and beloved grandfather of Faith Lundberg. He is also survived by his mother, Ann Buckindale of Orillia, ON; two brothers in Calgary and three sisters in Orillia, ON; as well as Joyce's brothers, Bill, Dave, Andrew, Brian, and Doug Coldwell; sisters-in-law; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends. Steve was predeceased by his father Allen.
