OAKENFOLD, Leora (Lee) Leora (Lee) Oakenfold passed away peacefully in Saskatoon on March 15, 2008. Lee was the much loved daughter of Mick and Alice (Peterson) Oakenfold. Lee was born at Weldon, SK on October 14, 1940, where she also spent her formative years. The family then moved to Kinistino, SK where Lee completed high school. Lee obtained a B.A. in 1961 at the University of Saskatchewan, where her good looks and sparkling personality also made her one of the most popular girls on campus. In 1960, Lee was chosen Miss Saskatchewan Roughrider and was runner up for Miss Grey Cup. Following graduation, Lee worked as a social worker in the Yorkton area and at University Hospital. She also did some teaching. However, the majority of her career was spent at Sinfonia Travel, where many of her clients became "friends for life". During this time, Lee also became a world traveler herself. Unfortunately, in late 2003, Lee was struck down by an aggressive form of neurodegenerative disease involving the frontal lobes of the brain. In May 2006, her illness necessitated her admission to the Special Needs Unit at Lutheran Sunset Home, where she spent the rest of her life. Lee accepted her fate with courage and remained cheerful until the very end. Lee was predeceased by her parents; her stepsister Adele Leonard; and two former husbands in the persons of Dr. George Genereux and Marcel Tabouret. She is survived by her loving husband, Dr. Earle DeCoteau and his family; her daughter Andrea (Jerry Mah) Genereux; her son George Genereux Jr.; her brother Roland (Mae) Oakenfold and his family; stepsister Shirley (John) Hogaard; and several cousins to whom she was close. Lee was especially proud of her cousin Eric Peterson who plays the role of Oscar on Corner Gas. She also leaves a myriad of friends from her University days, colleagues and clients from Sinfonia, and many persons she was associated with at the Mendel Art Gallery. The family also wishes to give special thanks to Helen Peters, who was a tremendous help to Lee throughout her illness. They are also grateful to Dr. Brian Martens and the outstanding staff at the Special Needs Unit at Lutheran Sunset Home, who always treated Lee with kindness and dignity. At Lee's request, no Funeral Service will be held. However, Lee's family and friends are cordially invited to a celebration of her life to be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2008 at the Edwards Family Centre on 4 Avenue North (across from the Saskatoon Funeral Home, which is located at 338 - 4 Avenue North). KOEHLER, Rolf W. Sunday, February 24, 2008 - After a life journey of 77 years, peacefully at home on Sunday, February 24th, 2008, Rolf Walter Koehler passed on in his sleep from this world into the next. Rolf was born in Karlsruhe, Germany on August 29th, 1930 and immigrated to Canada September 25th, 1951 at age 21. Grabbing his Master Plumber tradesman certification, he left behind his homeland to embark on his dream in the far away wilderness of Canada with a mere 20 in his back pocket. He loved this country - with only a Grade 8 education he taught himself to read and write fluent English and became a Canadian Citizen on December 19th, 1957. In over 50 years as a Canadian rain or shine he never missed a vote. He was known as a man who kept largely to himself but was always generous with his time and help to those who touched his life. I, as his son, have never known a more talented man in my life. There wasn't too much that he couldn't build or fix. He truly was an inventor and a man with vision born before his time. I never met a man who loved to read as much as Dad did he read his tattered Encyclopedia Britannica set cover to cover. He loved philosophy and faraway places such as Tibet, India and China. In his later years he learned a lot about himself and life in general to become one of the most compassionate people I have ever met. Beloved husband for 27 years to his beautiful late wife Maria Rita, who waited so long for him; son of the late Karl and Mina; brother of Else and the late Walter and Kurt; leaving much love behind for his children (and their spouses) Peter, Mark (Wendy), Ina (Mike) and Boris (Tracy); a very proud Opa to grandchildren Bethany, Anna, Max, Alexis, the late Cameron, and Rebecca. Rolf left behind a few good friends and no enemies. He lived life to the fullest one day at a time at his own pace. Rolf has already been cremated. His ashes will be spread over his farm at a private family ceremony this spring as per his wishes. <>Expect and accept change in a world they see as transitory. EASTON, Trudy 1923 - 2008 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Trudy Easton (nee Stewart) on March 16, 2008. Born in Galahad, Alberta on July 1, 1923 to Carroll and Amy Stewart, Trudy is predeceased by her three brothers, Tommy, Gordon, and Jim and her sister Mary. She was also predeceased by her husband and love of her life, Steacy Easton on February 25, 1994. Trudy waited until Steacy's birthday before she was ready to leave us and join him, somewhere over the rainbow. Trudy was a woman of many skills and talents. She was a voracious reader, especially on matters of science and spirituality and she had a passion for learning that led her, in her forties, to the University of Calgary to earn a Bachelor of Arts Degree (with Distinction) in 1979. She also spent time studying painting and drawing at the Alberta College of Art. She was an avid and accomplished painter and a devoted golfer. Trudy had a quick wit and greatly enjoyed a hardy laugh and a glass of wine, preferably together. Trudy will be dearly missed by her children, Richard (Susan) Easton and Barb (Chip) Burgess, and her grandchildren, Anthony, Amy-Jean, Olivia, Chloe and Jack, as well as by her many nieces and nephews. Special thanks go to the staff at Carewest Sarcee for making Trudy's last few days as comfortable as was possible. Née en Gaspésie le 22 septembre 1917, elle était fille de feu Alcide Morin et de feu Anna L'abbé. Elle laisse dans le deuil deux filles: Lise (Brad) et Monique; un fils, Marcel; trois petits-enfants: Pascal, Sarah et Anthony, ainsi qu'une arrière-petite-fille, Zoé. MAREK, Arthur M. February 20, 1928 - March 14, 2008 Arthur M. Marek passed away peacefully at the George Boyack Nursing Home; he was 80 years old. Pre-deceased by her parents Arthur and Annette Arsenault and her brother Denis (2001). Lorraine was born and raised in Val Gagne and had been a resident of Timmins since age 16. She married Don on August 31, 1968 in Val Gagne. She was well known in the community as the owner of The Mortgage Center for over 15 years. She was also very active in Timmins having been a member of the Timmins Rotary Club as well as an avid golfer and former board member of the Spruce Needles Golf Club. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 20, 2008 from St. Anthony's Cathedral. Szita, James C. - It is with sorrow and sadness that the family announces the sudden death of James (Jim) Szita on Friday, March 14 2008. He was the beloved father and best friend of Jeffery of whom he was most proud. He leaves behind his friend Cheryl Carbone, his sister Mary Crane (Larry) of Owen Sound, and his nephews James, David and Stephen Crane. He was predeceased by his father Julius and his mother Mary Szita (Spekel). Jim loved speed, motorcycles, motocross and was a participant in the Baja 1000 in 1989. The Baja 1000 is a 1000 mile race from Ensenada to La Paz, Mexico. He was a Certified Engineering Technologist and a graduate of Seneca College in Civil Engineering Technology. He worked many years in North America, South America and Asia as a Mining Consultant specializing in Mill design and fabrication. LAILEY, Lillian Audry Mary, R.N. September 23, 1912 - March 14, 2008 A caring, loving, outgoing lady has gone to rest. It is with great sadness that the family of Audry Lailey announces her peaceful passing, with her family by her side, in Ottawa. Born in Fort William, (now Thunder Bay), Audry graduated in nursing from McKellar General Hospital, winning the gold medal in her class of 1934. Predeceased by husband Donald, parents Bert and Lillian Mason, and sister Wilda (late Bill) Davies. Dearly loved mother of daughter Pat (Grant) Jessup, and son Bob (Brenda) Lailey of Sault Ste. Marie. Beloved Nana to her four grandchildren: Christine (Patrick Morissette and daughter Erica) Lailey; Karen (John) Fischer; John (Jenny) Jessup of Vancouver; and Rob (Shannon) Lailey of Barrie. Beloved "G.G." to seven great-grandchildren - Caitlin, Lillian, and Mark Fischer; Megan and Evan Lailey; Davis and Olivia Jessup.
