ANTONIAK, Alli Gertrude 2008-03-07 Mrs. Alli Gertrude Antoniak, age 92 of White Rockm died suddenly at her residence Feb.24, 2008. Beloved wife of Henry who predeceased her in May 2004, she is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law Charmaine and Jon Schonblom of Salemm Oregon, four granddaughters, Lisa Pilo,t Gwen Forman, Andrea Hartenberger and Michelle Kelley and twelve grandchildren. Alli was vibrant, energetic, possessed a wonderful zest for life and had a great sense of humour. Her greatest love was her family and her passion was playing bridge with her dear friends. She will be sorely missed. Services were held at Star of the Sea Catholic Church at 9 am March 5. In lieu of flowers, if so desired, memorial contributions may be sent to the charity of your choice.

BALTZER, K. Jon - Suddenly and unexpectedly, K. Jon Baltzer of Corunna, passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2008, at the age of 38. Beloved son of Valerie and Jack Lange of Sarnia and the late Kenneth Baltzer (1978). Adored father of Breanna Sayers. Dear brother of Jeff of Okotoks, AB, and James and his friend Leslie of Corunna. Loved grandson of Ruth and Billie Hunt of Petrolia, Lillian Baltzer and her friend George of Kingsville, and the late Bruce Baltzer. Jon is also survived by many aunts and uncles, nephews and nieces, and will be sadly missed by all. At the time of his death, Jon was working with the carpenter's union. Jon was there for everyone, he was the type of man that put everyone's needs before his own. He was a Class A mechanic who was more than eager to drop what he was doing and run to his friends side to assist with their car repairs. Or, if someone had a tree that needed to be cut down, Jon would grab his saw and his good buddy Jean and they would be off to the rescue. His two most favourite girls in his life were his mom and his daughter Breanna, who he would do anything for. Jon would take on any job and be determined to get it right. In Corunna, people had a nickname for him and it was “Crazy.” He was that Crazy about life, and he enjoyed it to the fullest. Family and friends will be received on Monday, March 10, 2008, at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM. The funeral service for Jon will be held on Tuesday, March 11. 2008, at 1:00 PM at SMITH FUNERAL HOME. Cremation will follow. Harriette Ethel Manzer 1912 - 2008 The family of Harriette Ethel Manzer are sad to announce her passing on March 5, 2008 at the age of 96. Harriette was born and brought up in Marysville (now part of Fredericton), York County, NB. She was predeceased by her parents Rowley and Ethel (Bradley) Manzer, her brother Harold and his wife Blanche (Dunbar), her sister Esther and her husband Ernest Freeborn, and her brother William (Bill). She is survived by Bill's widow Dorothy (Moore) Miller and her nephews Ivan and Malcolm Freeborn and David Manzer and their families. Following graduation from Fredericton High School and the Provincial Normal School, beginning in 1931 Harriette spent several years teaching in rural schools in York and Carleton Counties. She then took a position with the Alexander Gibson Memorial School in Marysville from which she retired in June 1967, the only break from service there being the 1946/1947 school year when she participated in a teacher exchange with Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. She continued to live in the Marysville/Fredericton area until 1978 when she moved to Moncton, NB to live close to her sister Esther and Esther's family. Her retirement was plagued by poor health and in latter years she lived quietly in a small private nursing home in Lutz Mountain on the outskirts of Moncton where, when she was able, she continued an interest in family and world affairs. Throughout her life, Harriette had been an active member of the Methodist, now United Church, albeit for some years in an increasingly restricted way because of her poor health. She was both a Charter and a Life Member of the United Church Women organization in which she held executive positions. She was also active and held executive positions in the Pythian Sisters organization. She was a member of the New Brunswick Society of Retired Teachers and a Life Member of the Canadian College of Teachers. We extend the greatest thanks to Darlene Hardy for the friendship and excellent care Harriette received in Darlene's Lutz Mountain Home and to the staffs of the Moncton City and George Dumont Hospitals for their services as required. A "CELEBRATION OF LIFE" gathering in honor of Harriette will be held on Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at Central United Church, 150 Queen Street. Moncton, NB. The funeral service for Hearst resident Aimé Bérubé, 62, will be held Feb. 28 (Thursday morning), 2008. He died Feb. 24 at Notre-Dame Hospital following a lengthy illness. Born June 15, 1945 in Hearst, he worked as a logger across the north, and was considered to be a good worker and individual. He was predeceased by his a son Rock in 1992, parents Aurore in 2006 and Charles Bérubé in 1990, and brothers Eugène (2003), Albert (1978) and André Bérubé (1956). He leaves a daughter Carole (Gilles) Mondoux and son René (Laura), all of Thunder Bay. Also surviving are his sisters Thérèse (George) Borden of Thunder Bay, Denise (Gilles) Morin and Alice (Lionel) Collin, all of Hearst, a son Paul (Carmel Lacroix) Bérubé of Hearst, and three grandchildren. Rev. Rémi Lessard is to direct the 10:30 a.m. service at Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption Cathedral.

Beverley Anne Duquette of Temagami died peacefully at Temiskaming Hospital surrounded by her loving family following a brave battle with cancer on March 1, 2008. She was 48. She was born in Toronto on May 14, 1959 and currently made her home in Temagami where she had worked in administration for the Municipality of Temagami for 19 years. She was predeceased by her father Clayton Dougall and by her brother John Dougall. Mrs. Duquette is survived by her loving husband Terry; sons John (Shannon) Duquette of North Cobalt and Jason (Carla) Duquette of Haileybury; grandchildren Grace, Charlie and Rory; her mother Anne Dougall of Temagami; her siblings Brian (Diane) Dougall of Marten River, Carol (Kevin) Abraham of Temagami and Joanne (Jim) Crytes of North Bay; and her sister-in-law Jane Dougall (Bill Howell) of Temagami; father-in-law and mother-in-law George and Marilyn Duquette of Callander; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Rick Duquette (Shelley) of Kitchener, Peter Wilson of Kitchener, Karen (Ralph) Steel of North Bay and Kim (Ray) Levesque of Ottawa; and many nieces and nephews. In keeping with Mrs. Duquette's wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Spring interment will take place at Whispering Pines Cemetery in Temagami. MARGRETHE J. BIRCH.- Margrethe J. Birch, 93, of 10 Allds Street, Nashua, New Hampshire, widow of Ian H. Birch, died early Saturday morning, March 1st at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center in Nashua, after a brief illness. Born in Trenton, Ontario on June 22, 1914, Mrs. Birch was a daughter of the late Walter B. and Alice May (Stevenson) Crowe. Mrs. Birch was a graduate of Trenton, Ontario High School and a graduate of the Toronto General Nursing School. She trained at the University of Toronto for Public Health and then worked as a Public Health nurse a few years. Margrethe married Ian H. Birch on May 2, 1942. The couple moved to the United States and made their home in Nashua for many years on Sunapee Street. Mrs. Birch and her husband shared 43 years together before his death on January 23, 1986. A resident of The Hunt Community since 1997, Mrs. Birch had been affiliated with the Anglican church for many years and was active in the Girl Guides (Girl Scouts) in Canada. Mrs. Birch was very interested in genealogy, politics and supported many charitable causes. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Birch was predeceased by a brother, Harold Grant Crowe. Mrs. Birch is survived by two close companions, Claudette Simoneau and Patty Wolfendale, both of Merrimack. SERVICES: There are no calling hours. CONRAD, Kenneth Adams Joseph - 65, passed away in the Centennial Building of the VG Site, QEII, on March 5, 2008. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Ray DeWolfe Conrad and Lillian (Adams) Conrad. Ken attended College Street School and St. Pat's High School. He joined the RCAF and thereafter worked at Wyse Road Esso Service Station with his brother, Graham. He worked for many years as a commissionaire before early retirement due to ill health. He enjoyed landscaping, working in the woods and playing cards. Friends and family will remember Ken as a kind and gentle man, quick to compliment and help others and appreciative of even the smallest gesture or act of kindness shown to him. He was predeceased by his parents, and a brother, who died in infancy. He is survived by his companion of many years, Ellen Munroe; sister, Janet; brothers, Gerry (Mary), Graham (Donna) and Brian (Lil), all of Dartmouth. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank Dr. Tim Matheson and the nurses and staff at 4A of the Centennial Building and at the 9th Floor of the Abbie J. Lane Memorial Building, QEII. Cremation has taken place. LARGE, Vida Olivia - 87, passed away peacefully at home on March 4, 2008. Predeceased by her parents, Cleveland and Louella (Zwicker) Large, and by her brother, Gordon, she is survived by her brother, Douglas, and several nieces and nephews. As a youth, Vida became an accomplished pianist, and later played the oboe in a number of orchestras. As a young woman employed at National Sea, she became the first female to obtain a degree in professional accounting (CMA) from Dalhousie University. Equally accomplished in athletics, Vida won 21 provincial tennis championships and 45 provincial badminton championships, representing Nova Scotia in the Summer and Winter Canada Games and later, in 1980, earning an induction into the Nova Scotia Sports Hall of Fame for badminton and tennis and then later into the Nova Scotia Tennis Hall of Fame. Although she lived with cancer for the last 37 years, Vida continued to pursue a variety of hobbies including sewing and weaving and was active with The Atlantic Spinners and Weavers, participating in many craft shows and fairs. Her remains have been cremated. A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 10, at 11 a.m. in Cathedral of All Saints, where Vida was a lifelong member. Sincere thanks to RJF Health Care and the VON nurses for the special care they gave to Vida over these last few months. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. CHALMERS, Donavon Miller (February 4, 1921 - March 5, 2008 WWII Veteran) - Don Chalmers, husband for over 64 years of P. Jill Chalmers (nee Stinton), his war-bride from London, England. Father of Stephen Reagh Chalmers and his wife Judy of Owen Sound, Margo Blanche and her husband Peter Neuwelt of Barrie and Lesley Anne Chalmers and her partner Colleen Anderson of Toronto. Very beloved Grandpa of Mark Bazant and his wife Angie of Australia, the parents of his first Great-grandchild Liam, and of Michael Bazant and his partner Genvieve of Ottawa. Predeceased by his parents David and Eva (Reagh) Chalmers, sisters Vivien McMinn, Vera Vallance and brother Dave of Grand Coulee Saskatchewan. He also lives on through his niece and nephew and their families Patsy Ann Reagh McMinn of St. Thomas and Clarence Vallance of Ottawa. Don was born and raised in Grand Coulee Saskatchewan, where his predecessors were among the first settlers of Saskatchewan, and also the founders of Confederation with his maternal great uncle - Sir Charles Tupper. He signed up for WWII in 1939 and was shipped overseas to England where he was promoted to Sandhurst College for Officer Training. After serving in England, Holland and Italy in World War II with the Canadian Army Medical Corp. and then the Armoured Tank Corp., Dad brought his war bride back home and settled in London Ontario where he completed his Batchelor's Degree at the University of Western Ontario. He went on to a long and successful career with Wyeth Canada, where he set records for sales in Southwestern Ontario. His friendly nature and humour brought him many life long friends and acquaintances throughout the Southwestern Ontario region. In the early fifties, Don and Jill settled in Owen Sound, where they raised their 3 children. He was proud of his long relationship with the Grey & Simcoe Foresters, Knox United Church, and the infamous Friday Night Bridge Club. We shall miss his western humor and his true love of people. Thanks you to Knox United Church, the Toronto Dominion Bank and especially Summit Place where he received exceptional care and compassion. We'd also like to make known our special appreciation to Big Boots Barry, his bridge partner and Border Collie when he needed it the most. Grandmother of Jake Neufeld (Sandra) of Ridgeway, Wendy Phelps (Ron) of Welland, Shellie Fleming (Derryk) of St. Catharines, and Trevor Neufeld (Illa Caira) of Fort Erie and Peter Furs of Guelph. Great Grandmother of Cole Neufeld, Allysa and Lindsey Phelps, and Lauren and William Fleming. Special thanks to Seynab Loyan of Welland (Lynn's special daughter) who gave Mom many hours of help over the past several years and guided her on her Friday shopping trips.
