Dumas, domiciliée à Grand-Sault. Née à Grand-Sault en 1912, elle était fille de feu William Poitras et de feu Denise Rivard. Mme Dumas a été organiste à la paroisse de l'Assomption de Grand-Sault pendant 58 ans. Elle laisse dans le deuil trois filles, Louine Chiasson (feu Rodolphe) de Grand-Sault, Claudette Tardif (Elmer) de Helendale, Californie et Sandra Demers (feu Léo) d'Ottawa, un fils, Camille Dumas (Claudette) de Bathurst, 14 petits-enfants, 21 arrière-petits-enfants, trois soeurs, Alfreda St-Amand de Chilliwack, C.-B., Lillian Guerrette d'Aylmer, Québec et Rita Lauzier d'Ottawa, Ontario, ainsi que des neveux et nièces. ATKINSON, George Harold May 31, 1923 - February 28, 2008 After a hard fought battle, George Harold Atkinson, husband of Marie Emily Atkinson (nee Nagel) died at the Canmore Hospital on February 28, 2008. Born in Medicine Hat, AB on May 31, 1923, he moved to High River, AB where he lived from the age of nine to eighteen. His mother, Francis, predeceased George when he was seven years old and later his father, Thompson, stepmother, Winifred, brothers Art and Bill Atkinson, and sisters, Doris Dunbar and Hilda Maloney. His sister Francis Richert, half sister Martha Bishop and half brother Allan Atkinson survive him. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Marie, his five children, Barry and Sandi (McKenzie), Betty Lynn and Cameron Witwer, Raymond and Darlene (Larsen), Avinga (Doug) and Naima (Schiesser), Judy and Michael Vincent, eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Also fondly missing him include cousins Marjorie and Alice Middleton and Lorna and Reg Phaff of Medicine Hat, cousin Anne and John Scheer and Jan Atkinson and their families. George worked for forty years with Calgary Power/TransAlta following training at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology where he trained as an electrical technician. He retired after working at the Kananaskis and Horseshoe Power Plants at Seebe, the Ghost Power Plants and finally as superintendent at the Spray, Three Sisters, Rundle, and Cascade Power Plants. A Memorial Service for George Atkinson will be held Saturday, March 15 at 2.00 p.m. in the Creekside Hall, Canmore Seniors Drop In Center, 600 - 9 Street. VAN ALSTINE, Malcolm Howard February 17, 1960 - March 2, 2008 Malcolm Howard Van Alstine of Calgary passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2008 at the age of 48 years. Malcolm was born February 17, 1960 and was adopted by Diana and Lambert in October of 1961. Malcolm graduated from Ernest Manning senior high school and began working alongside his father at the Alvan machine shop. Malcolm had many pastimes, and especially enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and hunting. He loved to spend time with his family and friends. He was a loving son, brother, uncle and friend to many. Malcolm is survived by his father, Lambert Van Alstine; sister, Christine (Brian) Wheeldon; nieces, Sarah Wheeldon and Diana (Jared) Eves; several other relatives of the Allred family in the UK and Van Alstine family in Regina and Vancouver; as well as by many friends. PARKER, Thomas James 2008-03-07 It is with great sadness that the family of Thomas James Parker announce his passing after a brief illness on March 4, 2008 at the age of 58. Tom was born in Fort William on June 6, 1949 to Jim and Kathleen Parker. He grew up on the family farm in Scoble later moving to Kakabeka Falls. Tom attended local public and high schools. He was a graduate from Confederation College in the Electronics and Instrumentation programs. Tom worked jobs that required a brief relocation and then at Lacs Des Isles Mine as an Instrumentation Engineer before retirement. Tom enjoyed hunting and fishing and working in the yard. His greatest pleasure was spending time his granddaughters Madison and Jillian. They were the apple of his eye, and he was very special to them both. He also enjoyed talking hockey with DJ and Denis. Tom is survived by his wife of 32 years Rosemary, daughters Laureen (Dave) Waite and Erin (Jamie) Graham, granddaughters Madison Graham and Jillian Waite, grandsons DJ and Denis Waite, fiancé of late son Ashly Desaulniers, brother John (Crystal) nephews Steven and Travis niece Corissa (London ON), cousin Judy Otway and family, sisters Heather (Jim) Curtola, Mary (Fred) Swansburg, Darlene (Al) Lawrence and other nephews and nieces. Tom was predeceased by his son Ryan Thomas in July 2006, parents Jim and Kathleen, in-laws Harvey and Margaret Stadey and aunt Madeline Steene. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. in the Blake Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Bert Vancook officiating. DUDKA, Stanley - 85, formerly a resident of Stellarton, New Glasgow, and Lawrencetown, Halifax Co., passed away peacefully, surrounded by his children on March 5, 2008, in Camp Hill Veterans' Building, QEII, in Halifax. Born in New Glasgow on January 16, 1923, he was the eldest son of the late Andrew and Margaret (Kowalski) Dudka. He had a quest for adventure that awarded him great recognition throughout his life. He enlisted in the army in 1939 at the age of 16. His first call of duty was as a guard for the Western Union cables that came ashore from overseas in Hazel Hill (Canso-town). It was there in Canso that he met his wife, Alice Cecilia (Ryan). They married in 1941 and celebrated their 60th anniversary in 2001. He served in the Second World War with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders and fought on D-Day against the 12th SS Panzer Division. He was captured three times and escaped each time to rejoin his regiment. Post war he became a witness in the Nuremberg War Trial against General Kurt Meyer for the murder of 24 Canadian Prisoners of War. He was awarded the Military Medal by King George VI. Dad joined the Department of Fisheries and Oceans in 1958. Upon joining DFO he was selected as a member of the "Special Force", a selected group of officers to enforce the regulations in the troubled areas of the Maritimes. He went on to become the leader of the Special Force. Stan was then selected to head the enforcement role of Sealing Operations in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. He received the Centennial Medal for Merit of Service to Canada in 1967. In 1974 he was singled out again for distinction when he was presented with a Public Service Merit Award, the civil service's highest award. He will be greatly missed by his children, Marilyn (daughter-in-law), Melody (Aubin), Barbara (Ablett), Judith (Lloyd Haggerty), Thomas (Sharon), Helen (David Johnson), Alicia, Bernard (Brenda), Katherine, Sonya (Leo van Dijk), Stephen, and Christopher (Liz). Stan was a devoted father and husband. His wife, Alice, and his oldest son, Stanley Frederick, predeceased him. Stan also joins his siblings, Andrew "Dukie", Helen, Annie, and Bill in heaven. He was the very proud "PAPA" to 25 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He looked forward to every visit and rejoiced in joking and carrying on with them all. Papa you will always be their "monkey face". Stan pursued his passions with a great commitment, and they included his faith in God, his belief in the Catholic Church, and his love of gardening. The gardens of his Lawrencetown home and the grounds of Pope John XXIII Church were his delight. Special thanks to Mary Galliott for her faithful and loving care of our father for the past five years. Visitation will be held in H.W. Angus Funeral Home, King Street, New Glasgow, today from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 8, at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Stellarton, with Father Don Boudreau officiating. McGUIRE, Cornelius 2008-03-07 Mr. Cornelius Sylvester "Con" McGuire, age 84 years, passed away suddenly but peacefully at Bethammi Nursing Home on Friday, March 7, 2008. Con was a very social man and was liked by everyone who met him. He was a World War II veteran and served in the army arriving home on the Isle De France in 1945. Con was a tourist operator and a commercial fisherman on Lake Nipigon. He loved fishing, hunting and the outdoors. He retired from the Ontario Parole Board at age of 69. His faith, family and home were his life. He was predeceased by his first wife Eileen Riley McGuire; second wife Carmel McGuire and daughter Catherine Seguin. He is survived by his children David Quirt, Patricia (Tim) Ainslie, Debbie (Leonel) Marsh, Cornell (Eleaner) McGuire, Colleen (Peter) Lachapelle, Cheryl (Bruce) McDonald, Eileen Joy (Bruce) Carrier and Judy (John) Jensen; grandchildren Rhonda, Greg, Harold, Dwayne, Rachel, Terry, Malcolm, Jonathan, Riley, Cornell, Patrick, Nathaniel, Cassandra, Alwyn, Eileen, Teri, Toni, Margaret, Michael and Robert. Step-children Nicole (Yvon) Roussy, Lise Saumur and Michelle (Dean) Larose. Step-grandchildren Guy, Danielle, Candyce and Chelsey. Con will be sadly missed by his beloved "Buddy". SHANNON, Christopher Vincent - Chris was taken from us suddenly by a car accident on March 3, 2008, at the age of 25. Chris lived life to its fullest every day. His passions for food, cars and music began as a toddler dancing to Bob Seger's “Old Time Rock n' Roll” and developed into an eclectic taste in music, playing his beloved bass, and a string of car projects. Chris pursued a successful culinary career, cooking in London, Ottawa, and greater Vancouver, always saving some of his pay cheque to purchase his next concert ticket. Chris loved his friends and family. His kind and generous nature and sense of humor were always evident. He would give you the shirt off his back while quoting a line from a Simpsons' episode, finishing with his big grin and a thumbs up “Aaayyy”. Chris was born in London, Ontario, attended St. Peter's Secondary School in Barrie, Fanshawe College and Douglas College. Chris is desperately missed by his loving mother Nikki (Coquitlam), father Larry (Mission), grandmother Eileen Vincent (London, Ont), many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends including best friends Jesse, Jason and Rob. He is predeceased by his sister Angie, grandfather Cyril Vincent (his hero), and grandparents Norma and Eddy Shannon. NAVES, MARILYN ALDYTHA JUNE - June's death occurred peacefully on March 4th, 2008 at her home, the St. John and St. Stephen Church Home in Millidgeville, NB, in her 83rd year. She was the treasured daughter of the late Herbert and Aldytha (Delong) Naves of Saint John, NB. Thank you to the many staff members who work so hard to enhance the lives of the people in their care. We have seen the hugs, the kind words and the shared laughter. "Your price is beyond rubies and blessed are your charges to have such caring people in their lives." June was a life long member of the St. John and St. Stephen Presbyterian Church and according to her mother she spent more time at the church than she did at home. In 1949 she was awarded a life membership in the Ladies Missionary Society, the youngest person to achieve that distinction. She was also a leader of the church's CGIT group; "her girls" were a valued part of her life. After her retirement she helped the boys and girls in the After School Program. June, a graduate of Saint John High School, took a business course which proved to be a wise decision; in November of 1945 she began a Steno-1 job with the Federal Government and her salary was the princely sum of $720.00 annually; thus began her career with EI. Through hard work and perseverance she worked her way up the ladder to become a PM3. Her contribution to the development of the Public Liaison Officer position in New Brunswick cannot be understated as it was her work with the employers in the Saint John area that hi-lited the need to create the position. She was the first PLO and now there are many. At the time of her retirement on September 3rd, 1988 she was the longest serving employee of the EI program in Canada - 43 years. Roly MacIntyre brought her out of retirement in 1995 to oversee the running of his campaign headquarters. Besides a successful career June found the time to be active in the Business and Professional Women's Club and was a past president of the local club, as-well-as the Provincial Chapter. She and Lucille Gates toured North America and participated in many conferences from British Columbia to Washington, DC. June loved to travel Ireland, Italy, New Zealand and Ireland again, "One can never have too much of Ireland". June had many stories to tell; her favorites included those about her chosen families, Corrie and Atze Douma, and Lucille and Leonard Gates. She became the Fairy Queen Mother to the second generation of Douma children and a beloved courtesy aunt to the Gates extended family. June touched the lives of many people and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Barbara, Margaret and Marten Douma and his daughter, Alyson Douma, Trevor Cook, John Deschenes, "my nephew" Peter Gates, my heart's daughter Linda Gates, Roly MacIntyre, Ken Anthony, Jack Neilson, John and Shelly Craft; these are a few of those who were dear to her heart. "The adventure continues" - surely Robin, Cicero, Girly Early Mittens and Marcus must be celebrating their reunion. Born in Bentinck Township, daughter of the late John and Anne (Weidendorf) Ahrens. Hilda was a music teacher and organist for 23 years at St. George Church in Walkerton and was an assistant organist for First St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church. She also was a Sunday school teacher for 18 years. Survived by husband Gustave “Gus” Heldt, daughter Dianne (Brian) Roseborough of Hanover, sons Karl of Stoney Creek and Ron (Donna) of Fenelon Falls, grandchildren Grant Roseborough, Jason Heldt, Stephen Heldt, Nancy Conway, Tracey Surdykawski, Gwenith Ann, Paul Heldt, Susan Heldt, Jennifer Heldt and Laurie Haigh, special great-grandson Hunter Roseborough, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Predeceased by sister Anne Kuhl, brothers Fred and Louis Ahrens. Visitation was held at Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover, on Wednesday from 5-9 pm. A Funeral Service was held on Thursday, March 6, 2008 at 3:30 pm, at First St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church. Rev. Mark Koehler officiated. Interment in Hanover Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jason Heldt, Stephen Heldt, Grant Roseborough, Doug Beckett, Richard Ahrens and Ron Ahrens. Rose was born in Glasgow, Scotland, daughter of the late Robert and Catherine (nee Wighton) Laurie. Rose was a teacher who taught in Scotland, night school at JDSS for 27 years and Durham District High School. She also belonged to Hampden Women’s Institute. Survived by daughter Sheena Blasing of London, son Laurie (Linda) Blasing of Varney, three step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren. Also survived by sister Margaret Finlayson of Glasgow, Scotland. Predeceased by her husband Harold Blasing (2002) and sister Cathie Finnie. Visitation was held at Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover, on Wednesday from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. A Funeral Service was held on Thursday, March 6, 2008 at 2 pm at Trinity Lutheran Church, Ayton. Rev.
