MAROZZO, Giulio 2008-02-29 It is with sadness the family announced that Mr. Giulio Marozzo passed away on February 26, 2008 at home with his family by his side. Born December 11, 1926 in Zumpano, Italy, Giulio immigrated to Canada in 1960. One year later his wife and his two young children joined him. Giulio worked as an orderly at St. Joseph’s Hospital for 30 years until his retirement, which he enjoyed for 21 years. During the early years, he held down several other jobs in order to give his family a better life. He was a hard working man and a dedicated husband, father and friend. His favorite times were spent in his backyard working in his garden, enjoying the sun, a glass of wine and being surrounded by his family and friends, and nothing was more dear to his heart than that. He also loved dogs and for years bred Bichons and Miniature Poodles. He had a gift for connecting with people of all ages. Giulio was predeceased by his mother Annunciata, his father Santo, brother Eugenio, brother Francesco, sisters Mary, Vincenza, Ida and brother-in-law Vincenzo Litrenta. Survived by his wife Emilia of 57 years, his two loving children Rose Robinson (Errol) and Gino (Geraldine) of Abbotsford, BC, sister Carmela Litrenta (Mario), sister-in-law Josephine Litrenta of Italy, niece Terri Renaud (Don) and grand-niece Justine of England. In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place and no service will be held. A tree will be planted in his memory. The family wishes to thank EMS, the Drs. and nurses in the ER Department at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre and also the nurses on I.A. and Drs. Bailey, Mitchell, Biman and Chan. Also Linda Byerley, C.C.A.C. and Sue Bailey. Thanks also to Shoppers Home Health, V.O.N. Home Making Service, St. Elizabeth Health Care, TBMC Pharmacy and Woits Pharmacy. SANFORD, Esther Marie SANFORD, Esther Marie - 90, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, February 26, 2008, in Grand View Manor, Berwick, where she had resided for the past 17 months. Born in Glenmont, Kings Co., on January 7, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Manson Caleb and Alice Marie Porter. She was, first and foremost, a wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She loved to cook for her family and was an avid gardener. Prior to losing her hearing, Esther loved to hear the voices of her two eldest children and to listen to music. Despite the fact that she was deaf, she raised 11 children and never looked at her loss of hearing as a disability. Her family hopes she can hear their voices, especially the children, and that she can once again listen to music. She was respected and adored by her large family and will be sadly missed. She is survived by her sons, Manson (Alice), Moncton, N.B.; Emerson (Cheryl), Canmore, Alta.; Donald (Marie), Somerset; Budd (Nancy), North Alton; Duane (Chris), Elgin, N.B.; Ervin (Karen), Black Rock; daughters, Barbara (Boyd) Meisner, Black Rock; Olivia (Jack) Young, Aylesford; Carole (David) Rinzler, Riverview, N.B.; Verna (Richard) Ward, Coldbrook; 36 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; four great great-grandchildren; brother, Leander (Glenne) Centreville; sisters, Freda (Harold) Grover, Lakeville; Etta Dempsey, Fundy Villa, Berwick; many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Esther was predeceased by her husband, Cecil Sanford; daughter, Beverly Foster; granddaughter, Kendra Faye Rinzler, and three grandsons in infancy. Visitation for Mrs. Sanford will be held 7-9 p.m. Saturday, March 1, in H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home, 192 Commercial St., Berwick, NS B0P 1E0 (902-538-9900), where a funeral service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 2, with Rev. Elizabeth Johnson officiating. WREN, Olga Mary - With saddened hearts we announce that Olga Wren passed away peacefully on Monday, February 25, 2008 at Gilmore Lodge, Fort Erie in her 79th year. Beloved mother of Wayne (Devra) of Calgary, Thomas (Leanne) of Vancouver, and Barbara (Peter) of Ridgeway. Loving and proud grandmother of Christopher (Calgary). She will be sorrowfully missed by family and friends. At Olga's request her body has been donated to the Bequeathal Program of the Department of Anatomy at McMaster University. GRANT, LYNDEN MURRAY The death of Lynden M. Grant of Oromocto, NB occurred at the Oromocto Public Hospital on Thursday, February 28th, 2008. Born in Fredericton, NB, he was the son of the late Woodford E. and Annie C. (MacKinnon) Grant and husband of Deb (Cliffe) Grant. Lynden was raised in Lower St. Mary's, NB and joined the military in 1961, retiring after 31 years of service with the Royal Canadian Dragoons. During his career he served at CFB Gagetown, NB, Cyprus, London, England and Germany. He was honored with the Order of Military Merit in 1997 by Governor General Romeo LeBlanc. Lynden was a past Councilor for Ward 4 with the Town of Oromocto and was also an avid hockey player, coach and fan for many years and received the Canadian Forces Coach of the Year Award in 1991. Lynden is survived by his wife, Deb; children, Geoffrey (Denise) of Cold Lake, AB and their son Zachary, Gary (Susan) of Ottawa, ON and their daughters, Alexandra and Mackenzie as well as Jennifer Hache (Nick) of Burton, NB and their son, Joshua; brothers, Bob (Chris) of Fanny Bay, BC and Darryl (Doreen) of Calgary, AB; sisters, Edna Fox (Edison) of Tyrone, PEI and Donna Gorda of Preston, BC; favorite mum-in-law, Elizabeth Cliffe of St. Stephen, NB; sisters-in-law, Karen Cliffe of St. Stephen, NB, Pam DeBacker (Chuck) of Regina, SK and Connie Cliffe of Glace Bay, NS.; as well as, several special nieces and nephews. OBITUARY STANLEY E. BROCK B.A. Hon., F.S.A., C.M. 1912 - 2008 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Stanley E. Brock on February 21, 2008. He is survived by his wife Gertrude Blondeau; their children Donald of Montreal; Alan (Judy) of Okanagan Falls, B.C. and Joyann (Robert Guay) of Beaconsfield; and five cherished grandchildren; Maxwell, Samara, Deena, Jennifer and Patrick. He was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and attended the University of Manitoba where he was awarded the Governor General's Gold Medal for Academic Achievement. The Canadian Red Cross Society named him an Honorary Member for Services Rendered. He was recognized by the Ordre de Merite de la Culture Francaise for exemplary integration into the Francophone Community. In 1978 the Governor General of Canada presented him as a Member of the Order of Canada. An actuary by profession, he moved to Quebec City in the mid-1930's where he joined the Industrial Life Insurance Company, a very small and unknown company. Over the next 42 years he was instrumental in the successful development of this organization and completed his career as President. Today Industrial-Alliance is one of the largest companies in the insurance and financial services field in Canada. Throughout his career he remained actively involved in community services. In 1956, he founded, as President, the first Readaptation Clinic for Handicapped Persons in Quebec. In 1961, as President of the Canadian Red Cross in Quebec City, he helped to construct and fund the first Blood Transfusion Center. He served as President and member of the Board of the Jeffrey Hale Hospital over a 20-year period. He was also President of the campaign that raised the funds required to construct the Y.M.C.A. building on Holland Avenue and similarly led other campaigns in support of various charitable causes. A long time active member of the Rotary Club, he was named Honorary Member for his devotion to the Club's activities in support of handicapped persons. Amongst friends, he would often talk about the stroke of good luck that brought him to Quebec City - a beautiful, fascinating and most desirable city in which to live. Living in a bilingual and highly cultured atmosphere was a source of personal enrichment for him. In his opinion, any sportsman would find it difficult to find a better environment offering close at hand the opportunity to participate in a variety of outdoor activities. His sporting activities included golf, curling, fishing, skiing, and hunting. A favourite activity was breaking fresh trails in snow covered mountainous areas on his snowmobile. He was a founding director and President of Cap Rouge Golf Club and had long memberships at Royal Quebec Golf Club, Atlantis Golf Club in Florida, and the Quebec Garrison Club. GRAY, Joyce Marie August 25, 1930 - February 18, 2008 Surrounded by her immediate family, and in the loving care of Newport Harbour Care Centre, Joyce left us on February 18, 2008 to join her beloved husband David who predeceased her in March 2003. Her incredible courage, determination, good humour and persistent smile inspired and endeared her to family, friends and caregivers. Her final years were a testament to her inner strength as she bravely faced the challenges of Multiple Sclerosis. KEVOL, Caroline Alma July 18, 1921 - February 26, 2008 Caroline Kevol, of Calgary, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at the age of 86 years. Carol was born in Markinch District, SK on July 18, 1921. Carol attended school in Markinch followed by Normal School Training in Regina, later receiving her teaching degree. She met Bill Kevol in 1943 and they married in 1946. Mom taught elementary school in one room schools in Saskatchewan, in Victoria where they lived for seventeen years, and in Calgary where they moved in 1964. Mom and Dad enjoyed square dancing and bowling for many years. Her grandchildren were a great source of joy for her. Mom loved spending time with her grandchildren and attending as many softball and hockey games as possible to cheer them on. She also loved watching all the Flames and Stampeders games on television. Carol is survived by her husband Bill; daughter Karen; son Garry and his wife Sherron; her grandchildren Christopher, Michael, Billy, Brian and Beth; and her sister Elsie. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Clara, Irma and Leona. She was predeceased by her parents Gottfried and Augustina Fiege; her brothers Kasper, Carl, Erhardt and an infant brother in Russia; her sisters and their husbands, Lydia (Walter) Huffnagel and Eleanor (Marv) Ahl and brother-in-law Johnny Thurmeier. Born in Prince Edward Island, she was a daughter of the late John and Catherine (MacPhee) Larkin. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Stellarton. Gwen was a personal care worker at Glen Haven Manor for several years before retirement. Her quick wit and ability for a good laugh will be sadly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by sons, Bryan, Riverton; Paul (Paula), North Sydney; daughter, Bonnie, Halifax; grandchildren, Alison and Andrew, Anthony and Dawn Michelle, Ross and Amanda, and great-grandson, Kevin. She is also survived by brothers, Desmond Larkin, Prince Edward Island; Wentzel Larkin, Massachusetts, and sister, Eileen Kingsbury, New York. Gwen was predeceased by brothers, A.J. and Paul, and sister, Muriel Larkin. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation by request. SHEPPARD, Richard Leslie 1915 - 2008 Richard Leslie Sheppard passed away peacefully on February 27, 2008, at the Bethany Care Centre in Hillhurst. He was 92 years of age. Richard was born in Saskatoon on March 22, 1915, the eldest son of Frank and Lydia Sheppard. He lived in Saskatchewan, BC, and Alberta as a child, spending most of his time in the Calgary area (Riverside and Victoria Park). He was interested in sports, including hockey and football, and became immersed in amateur radio at the age of fifteen. He married Clarissa Amy Sparks in June of 1938. During WWII, he was commissioned as a communications instructor at the RCAF flying school in High River in 1942, and completed his military career with the Signals Corps of the Canadian Army in Britain in 1945. Richard was employed all of his civilian career by Willson Business Services, and became general manager of the Calgary operation, a position which he held until his retirement. He held a private pilot's license, and flew regularly during his early retirement years. He was active in community service clubs, lending support to underprivileged children, church groups, and the Salvation Army. Richard is remembered for his kind spirit, and his love for children and animals. He has led an exemplary life, as a family man and provider, and as a very successful businessman. His examples of honesty, dedication and fairness throughout his life have been an inspiration to those who have known him. He is sadly missed by his wife of near seventy years, his four children, their spouses, and some twenty-plus grandchildren and great-grandchildren. INGRAM, Charles 1918 - 2008 Charles Ingram passed away peacefully on February 27, 2008 at the age of 89. Charlie left a legacy of love for his family and friends, which he always said was the greatest gift you can leave the world. Charlie's love for his wife Betty (Hazel) of sixty-six years, his dedicated love and respect for his children: Don (Heather) Ingram and Linda (Rick) Clarke, and the pride he had for his granddaughters: Carolyn (Chris) Whitelaw, Nadine Clarke, Karmen Ingram, and Jeanette (Ken) Rutherford, was only surpassed by the smile he gave each time he saw his great-grandchildren: Cameron and Carter Whitelaw and Jocelyn Rutherford. Charlie is survived by his immediate family and his sisters: Anne and Octavia (Tavi) and many nieces and nephews and is predeceased by his son: Charles Arnold, sisters: Peggy, Mary, Betty, Jessie, Jean, and Christine and brothers: John, Bill and Alex. Charles served his country during the Second World War with the Calgary Highlanders. He worked for the CPR for thirty-four years as a train engineer and retired with many friends who enjoyed his company and camaraderie. The family would especially like to thank Dr. Jim Mayhew for the attention, support and friendship he showed Charlie and the family during this trying time, as well as the nursing staff of Unit 46 at the Foothills Hospital. The family invites his family and friends to the Fox Hollow Golf Course on Wednesday, March 5 at 2:00 p.m. to Celebrate Charlie's life. ANDREWS, Robin Linda Frances 2008-02-26 It is with great sadness and broken hearts that the family announces the passing of Robin Linda Frances Andrews, peacefully in the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, on Tuesday, February 26th, 2008. Robin was born in Port Arthur on October 1st, 1967. Family was very important to Robin, especially her beloved son Jamie. She enjoyed music, particularly watching her brother‘s band with family and friends. Robin was a very caring and loving person with a lot of spunk. Robin will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her son Jamie Ward Jr.; her parents Linda and Sulo Miller; her sisters: Ginger (Rob), Carrie (Kurt); and brother Sulo (Stacy); nephews: Jeremy, Holden, Sebastian, Troy, Layne; and close friend Jamie Ward Sr. Also surviving are numerous aunts and uncles. She was predeceased by grandmother and grandfather Frances and Lawrence Andrews; uncles Charles Andrews, Waino Miller; and grandmother Gertrude Miller. VIC, Alma 2008-02-29 It is with great sadness the family of Alma Vic announce her passing at the age of 74 in Thunder Bay in St. Joseph‘s Hospice on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008. Alma was born in Saskatoon, Sask. on Nov. 14, 1933. Alma worked for many, many years for A & P stores retiring due to illness. Alma loved all animals especially her poodles, and enjoyed many shopping trips across the border as well as many travels across Canada. Alma from a young age celebrated her birthday by sending a birthday card to Prince Charles and enjoyed receiving the replies and acknowledgement in doing so. Anyone who knew Alma could count on a good story, many happy times, or help when it was needed. Alma married John Vic in 1955 and together they had two sons David and Gary. Alma will be sadly missed by husband John who lovingly cared for her during her illness. Alma is survived by her 2 sons David, grandchildren Christopher, Ashley, son Gary, wife Raija and grandchildren Gary Jr., Gregary, Melanie, Melodie and their families, MaryAnn. Brother Eric and wife Grace of Nanaimo B.C. as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Alma was predeceased by her parents Frederick and Martha Tamke and 4 brothers Helmut, Reinhardt, Harold and Arthur. MUIR, Reginald Anthony MUIR, Reginald Anthony - October 14, 1938 - February 25, 2008. It is with deep sorrow that the family announces the passing of Reg on February 25, 2008, in Concordia Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Iris; children, Craig (Candace), Sommer (Tim) Cranen, Tracie (Lee) Hannaford, and grandchildren, Ryder, Trystan, Hadley, Tyler and Shayna. He is also survived by his sister, Noreen (Ron) Ellis, Nova Scotia; sisters-in-law, Dorothy (Ron), Bonnie (Gary), Lori, Isobel; his nieces and nephews, and many friends. Reg was born in North Noel Road, Hants Co., on October 14, 1938. He was predeceased by his parents, John Lester and Muriel Kathleen. He was also predeceased by his sister, Carol Toni (Victor). He was raised by his aunt, Maggie and uncle, William Custance of Upper Rawdon. Reg made his living as a long distance truck driver, crossing this continent many times over. He loved the open road, but missed his family when he was away. He had a great sense of humour and delighted in having people wonder what he would say next. He loved his rum and coke, country music, westerns, and being able to yell "bingo". His absence will leave a large hole in our family.
