JONES, Brian Rendel - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Brian Jones, cherished husband, talented painter, music lover and loyal friend to many. Brian was just 57 when he was taken from us on Feb. 27, 2008, in Collingwood, Ontario, far too soon, for he had so much left to give. He will be sorely missed by his devoted soulmate, Susanne (nee Tausig), brother Bradley and wife April, mother-in- law Heidi Tausig, and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Christine and Philip Ford. He also leaves behind three nieces: Katrine Cuillerier, Benita Agla and Labadie. Brian, born June 1, 1950, in Chatham, On., was predeceased by his father Lionel and mother Mabel and by father-in-law Peter. Brian battled pancreatic cancer for just one month but during that time he always kept his sense of humour, and learned how closely he was held in others' hearts. A celebration of his life will be held on March 8 at 11 a.m. the FAWCETT FUNERAL HOME in Collingwood, followed by a uniting of his friends and family at the Admiral's Post pub. JEFF, Richard James - of Apsley. Passed away peacefully at Belleville General Hospital on Tuesday February 26, 2008. Best friend and husband of Lynda (Lyn). Special step-dad of Dawn Fladgate (Peter) of Belleville, Krista Berevin (Rob) of Apsley and the late Kimberly Howson. Dearest Papa to Ryan, Michael, Rachel, Brandon and Emma. Loving Brother of Alice Parnell and Phyllis Phillips both of Peterborough and the late Doug and Stanley. Also survived by sister in law Mae Jeff. Many special nieces and nephews were a big part of Richard's life. His favourite place on earth was Serpentine Lake enjoying camp life with his friends, hunting, fishing and watching the beautiful sunsets. Richard was a founding member of the Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park Signature Site Local Stakeholder Committee. He wanted to protect “the west country” so future generations could have the experiences there that he enjoyed so much. SANSON, ESTA ROWENA Esta R. Sanson of Millville, wife of the late Charles Sanson, passed away February 26, 2008 at Upper River Valley Hospital, Waterville, NB. Esta was a loving mother and grandmother. In July 1981, she and Charles were both baptized and became members of the Millville Baptist Church. Esta is survived by two daughters, Lorraine Freeman (David), Southampton and Marlene White, Easton, MA; five grandchildren, Chip White, New Hampshire, Jeffrey White, Brockton, MA, Daniel White (Susan), Brockton, MA, Rev. Troy Freeman (Ronda), Florida and Anthony Freeman (Tammy), Rossville, NB; seventeen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband in 1991 and several brothers and sisters. Marion Olive Tower 1919 - 2008 SACKVILLE, N.B.- Thursday, February 28, 2008. Tired and worn out, her body gave peace to her soul, gracefully and peacefully while residing at the Drew Nursing Home, at the age of 88 years. Marion was born in Rockport, N.B. on October 8, 1919, and was the daughter of the late Russell and Marion (Willis) Maxwell. Marion was an avid quilter throughout the years and a member of the Middle Sackville Baptist Church. She will be greatly missed by her daughter Edna (Allen) Tower; grandson Jim; granddaughter Judi (Rob) Irich; great-grandchildren, Andrew and Alexander Tower, Natasha and Katrina Irich, all of Mississauga, Ontario; her brother Arthur Maxwell of Amherst, N.S. and several nieces and nephews. Eleanor (Vaughan) Reid Eleanor Reid passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 19, 2008, at The Moncton Hospital. Born in St. Martin's, N.B., she was the daughter of the late George and Annie (Paisley) Vaughan. She was the beloved mother of David Reid of Daytona Beach and Moncton. She leaves her sister, Barbara Vaughan, of Etobicoke, Ontario and many nieces and nephews for whom she had a special fondness. She was predeceased by husband, Harold Reid; sisters, Deane Miller, Mildred Carey and Pauline Campbell; and brothers, George, Donald and Harold Vaughan. She attended Central United Church and was a founding member of the Fort Monckton Chapter of the I.O.D.E. A celebration of Eleanor's life will be held on Sunday, March 2 from 2-4 at Cobb's Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 330 Whitepine Road, Riverview (869-2007). The interment will be in the family lot in Fernhill Cemetery in Saint John, N.B. at a later date. HOWARD, Frank On February 26th, 2008, in Guadalajara, Mexico, from the effects of lung cancer. Frank, 77, was loved, and will be fondly remembered, by his wife Geraldine Castle-Trudel and her children Jennifer (widow of Brigadier-General Marc Pouliot, mother of Jessica and Nicole), Nicholas (husband of Jennifer-Anne McNeill, father of Noah), Victoria Noury (mother of David and Erik) and Mellissa (wife of Ian Holmes, mother of Oliver). Also bereaved are his daughters Virginia Howard, Susan (wife of Robin Lynch, mother of Jessica and Alison), Lisa (wife of Andrew Fogarasis, mother of Peter and Alice), Jennifer Howard (married to Mary Scott), and their mother Patricia, as well as many other relatives and numerous friends. When Frank retired from journalism on February 18, 1994, he was writing the Bureaucrats column in the Ottawa Citizen. As a tribute, John Gray reminisced about Frank as a journalist and friend for The Bureaucrats: Souvenir Edition. What John wrote is as affectionately appropriate today as it was then: "Many, many years ago when he was Canada's youngest city editor on Canada's oldest daily newspaper, Frank Howard taught me the rudiments of journalism. For this I am grateful: it has kept me off the streets in the intervening 30 odd years. Since then, however, the Howard scorecard is a bit smudged. Early on, he set out to save the country. He busied himself with the affairs of Quebec and talked endlessly to those who would listen about the mystic union of French and English Canada. He wanted to be, he said, un interlocuteur valable. The rest is history - the immediate birth of the Quebec separatist movement and the country's long decline into the national toilet. So much for the joys of mysticism. He was not much better outside Quebec. He travelled to Toronto to be the best man at our wedding. This was much appreciated, except that he insisted on playing the rustic, throwing himself downstairs in full view of 50 people. Two days later, at what was supposed to be a wedding party, he lectured another 50 people for 4 1/2 hours on the evils of contraception. A lot of people still believe that I am a hideous judge of character. In the mid-1960s he persuaded me that the Montreal Star was a wonderful place to work. He left within a few weeks. And a few years later, of course, the Montreal Star died. Through long and patient effort, Frank was crucial in furthering a lifelong commitment of myself and many others to beer and related pleasures. Later he renounced the devil and all his works and he now looks upon the rest of with sad eyes and infinite pity and superiority. My own suspicion is that this exalted moral plane from which he now views the world is his own revenge for a lifetime of short jokes. Those who know him will recognize in all this a desperate ring of truth. However, I will say this for Frank. Over the years he has resisted the temptation to teach me everything he knows about snooker. Of such forbearance is great friendship made." WARNER, N. Douglas Passed away peacefully on February 25th, 2008 at Glen Stor Dun Lodge, Cornwall. Dear husband for 66 years of Elleda; beloved father of Norman (Elizabeth), John (Shirley); cherished grandfather of Michael, Sebastian and Miranda; and dear brother of Roger and the late Lucille Thompson. Douglas was born to Gladstone and Nellie (Gove) on September 28th, 1913. He attended North Valley Public School and Finch High School. In 1933, he graduated from Kemptville Agricultural College and in 1938, graduated from the Canadian School of Embalming. In Russell and Kenmore, he operated a general store, feed and seed business and funeral home. Douglas moved to Cornwall in 1946 where he started his successful insurance career. He was a Chartered Life Underwriter and in 1983 became an Honorary Member of the Insurance Brokers Association of Ontario. Douglas was active as president or board member of several community organizations. During the 1960's, he was elected to three terms as Alderman for the City of Cornwall. In Rotary International, he was a charter member of the Cornwall Rotary Club, Club President, District Governor (District 704), Paul Harris Fellow and had over 44 years of perfect attendance. As a long time member of the Masons and Shriners he participated in many events locally and in Florida including being Master of the Russell Lodge. In Auburndale Florida, Douglas served three years as President of the Auburndale Tourist Club. His activity in Cornwall First Baptist Church included many years as deacon (active and honorary) and fifteen years as finance chairman during which time the church relocated to its present location. In 1984 Douglas was recipient of the Ontario Bicentennial Medal for volunteerism and community service. A memorial service will be held Saturday March 8th, 2008 at First Baptist Church, 310 York Street, Cornwall at 11 am. with family visitation starting at 10 am. OBITUARY IVAN ROLLAND ROBERTSON November 15, 1921 - February 26, 2008. With deep sadness we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend on February, 26, 2008 after a courageous and brief struggle with leukemia. He is mourned by his devoted wife of sixty years Helen Campbell, his children Virginia (Silvio), Drew (Wendy), Peter (Aires) and Shirley (Serge) and his seven grandchildren Kristin (Nathan), Marcus, Kimberly, Jonathan, Angela, Nathan and David, his sisters Nora Asprey and Retta Williams and his extended family and many friends. Ivan will be remembered for his loyal service to his country by serving in the navy during WWII, as an officer in the reserve militia for many years, as Quebec Provincial President of the Royal Canadian Legion and more recently for initiating the renaming of a stretch of Quebec highway in memory of war veterans. Throughout his life he demonstrated a commitment to his community by serving as an elder in his church, chairman of the local school board, volunteer fireman, president of the Rotary Club and he was named citizen of the year for the town of New Richmond. Ivan was a man of great charm, integrity, compassion, an avid sportsman, an outdoorsman and above all a man devoted to his family. The family wishes to thank Dr. Laliberte and his medical team at the Hopital de Baie des Chaleurs (Maria) for their kindness, care and comfort during the final days of his brief illness. The funeral service will be held on Friday, February 29, 2008 at St. Andrews United Church in New Richmond at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made in Ivan's name to the Robertson-Holmes Memorial Fund (a student bursary fund that he is partially responsible for founding) or to a charity of your choice. GUINDON, Roy F. Veteran of the Korean War. At the Garden Home on Wednesday, February 27, 2008, of Roy F. Guindon of Springvale, age 78 years. Dear father of Arthur, Michelle Banks (Jim) and Lynn MacDougall (Rob). Loving grandfather of Brittany, Brandon and Janelle. Brother of Arlene Hood (Warren) and Keir (Marion). Brother-in-law of Faustina Guindon. Predeceased by his wife, Betty Lou (nee Doyle); by his parents, Arthur and Edith (Alchorn) Guindon and by his brother, Eugene. Resting at Belvedere Funeral Home, from where a private family funeral will be held in the funeral home chapel on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. Interment later in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens. SHATFORD, Bonar Law SHATFORD, Bonar Law - 89, Halifax, formerly of Fox Point, passed away Wednesday, February 28, 2008, in QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born in Fox Point, he was a son of the late Clyde and Sadie (Westhaver) Shatford. From 1941-1945 Bonar was in the navy, serving in the Second World War on the Minesweepers and Corvettes. Later he worked as a fisherman, a cook for the railway workers, and as a stationary engineer at CFB Mill Cove. He was a man of few words and many thoughts. Surviving is his only daughter, Bonny (Robert) Osgood, Halifax. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Doris Ensor; brothers, Hazen, Murray, Wilson; sisters, Edna Whynot, Florence Coolen, and Mable in infancy. In honour of his wishes, cremation has taken place under the direction of Ronald A. Walker Funeral Homes. There will be no service. A private burial will be held at a later date. It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, on February 27, 2008, in QEII Health Sciences Centre, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Liverpool on July 25, 1934, she was a daughter of Marion and the late Reginald Whynot. She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Harold Sr.; daughters, Joanne (Terrie), Hammonds Plains; Cathy (Eddy), Lower Sackville; Cindy (Mike), Lower Sackville; Barb, Beaver Bank; sons, Frank (Doris), Beaver Bank; Reggie (Rose), Lower Sackville; Harold Jr. (Michele), Timberlea, and Terrance (Fonda), Mount Uniacke. She will be deeply missed by her 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her seven brothers and four sisters. She was predeceased by her brothers, Jack and Paul; grandson, Jeremy, and son-in-law, Kevin. May was an avid bingo player and will be forever loved by all who knew her, including her puppy, Princess, and backyard bunnies. CONRAD, Glen Edward CONRAD, Glen Edward - 62, Lower Sackville, passed away February 26, 2008, at home. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late Purvis and Gladys (Grimm) Conrad. Glen was employed with DND (CFAD - Bedford) for 28 years as an ammunition technician until his retirement in 2000. He was an avid collector of model trains, Harley Davidson memorabilia, as well as antique farm equipment. He is survived by his wife, the former Gayle Whitman. Born in Kingston, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Leona (Richardson) Medicraft. Before retiring, she worked for various businesses throughout the Annapolis Valley as a bookkeeper. She was a member of Nictaux United Baptist Church, the Ladies Auxiliary, and president of the Atlantic Baptist Women (ABW) of Nictaux Baptist Church. Dot loved crocheting and knitting. She loved her family dearly, especially all of her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Joseph; daughters, Rose (David) Crouchman, Windsor; Leona (Marty) Baker, Middleton; Tammy (Shawn) Lorette, St. Brieux, Sask.; son, William "Bill" (Karen) Betts, Yarmouth; brother, Larry Medicraft, Nictaux; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and daughter-in-heart, Gloria Gallant, Auburn. She was predeceased by infant sister, Verba; granddaughter, Michelle Crouchman; son, George, and daughter-in-law, Linda. MACINTOSH, John F. "Oula" MACINTOSH, John F. "Oula" - 85, Halifax, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 26, 2008, at home. Born in Saskatoon, Sask., he was a son of the late William and Hilda "Tat" (MacDonald) Macintosh. John was graduate of Sydney Academy, followed by six years overseas in the RCAF, during the Second World War. In 1946 he attended Mount Allison University and enjoyed his time on the hockey and football teams. He co-founded Keltic Agencies in Sydney, followed by a move to Halifax, with Nesbitt Thompson. John was a past president of Sydney Kiwanis, a Lt. Governor, and Commodore of Sydney Yacht Club. He was a member of the Shrine and the Masonic Order. Surviving are his wife, the former Catherine LeVatte; daughter, Jane and her children Catie, Angus and Rhys, Calgary, Alta.; son, Ian and his children Julia, Jessica and Breanna, Montreal, Que. John was predeceased by infant son, Scott; brothers, Bob, Angus, and sister, Betty Fraser. The family will receive friends and relatives 2-4, 6-8 p.m. today in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor St., Halifax. Memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 1, in Fairview United Church, 3524 Dutch Village Rd., Halifax. Trent was an avid NASCAR fan and truly loved everything about the sport. NAUSS, Mildred Pearl NAUSS, Mildred Pearl - 90, formerly of Kentville and Halifax, passed away Saturday, February 23, 2008, in Grand View Manor, Berwick. Born on Tancook Island, she was a daughter of the late George and Jennie (Stevens) Smith. She was a homemaker and a former member of Central Baptist Church, Halifax, where she had been active in several areas of the church, including the choir. She was also a former member of both the North Alton Baptist Church and the Centreville Baptist Church. She is survived by sons, Donald Nauss, Coldbrook; David (Joyce) Nauss, Halifax; sister, Elizabeth Raddysh, Edmonton, Alta.; brother, George (Lorna) Smith, Fredericton, N.B.; grandchildren, Andrew (Cathy) Lewis, Steven Lewis, C.J. Nauss, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Clifford Nauss; daughter, Margaret Lewis, and sisters, Virginia Mason-Dennis and Ruth Clayton.
