CAMERON, MARJORIE (Marjie) ANN (RN Graduate from Hospital for Sick Children) - Peacefully at home surrounded by her family. Marjie Cameron, of Orillia, beloved wife of the late Donald Alexander Cameron. Loving mother of Deborah Cameron of Orillia, John and Cherylyn of Barrie, Ellen and Richard Lengyell of Paris, Robin & Kathinca of North Bay, and Scott & Patti of the UK. Cherished grandmother of Cameron, Ian, Emily- Jane, Donald, Jennie, Breagh, Todd, Geordi, Jesse & Sofie. Marjie will be lovingly remembered by all her nieces, nephews, extended family, friends and all her pets whose lives she has touched. GLENDENNING, ISABELLE MARIE - Following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease, Isabelle passed peacefully at York Manor on Sunday, February 17. She was the daughter of Mary and the late Gordon Waddelow of Fredericton. Predeceased by her eldest daughter, Cynthia, Isabelle is survived by five children, Steven (Donna McFarlane) of Quispamsis, John, Douglas and Peter all of Fredericton, and Sharon Griffiths of Calgary and by her two grandsons, Jacob and Bentley Griffiths of Fredericton. In addition to her children and mother, she leaves two sisters, Joan (Donald) Malone of BC and Donna (Peter) Chalmers of Fredericton, three nephews, four nieces and several grand nieces and nephews. Isabelle was a gentle soul who was devoted to her family and who loved and cared for cats. She made lasting friendships with her co-workers in the Pharmacy Department at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital and with the members of the Fredericton Quilters' Guild in which she was actively involved. The family will receive visitors at McAdam's Select Community Funeral Home at 160 York Street in Fredericton (458-9170) on Friday, February 22 from 2:00 pm to 9:00 pm, and a memorial service will take place in J.A. DECKER, WALLACE "WALLY" ERIC Surrounded by family, the passing of Wally Decker occurred on February 19th, 2008 at his residence in Waasis. Born November 21, 1966, in Cook's Harbour, NL, he was the youngest child of Melvin and Christena (Larkin) Decker. Wally was predeceased by his grandparents, several aunts and uncles; his nephew, Brady and his special cousin Kirby. Wally was a loving husband to his wife, Natasha (Hudson) Decker and father to Mitch and Brandi Decker. He is also survived by his sisters, Carolyn (Craig) Campbell, Leona (Ron) O'Neill, and Trudy (Lyndon) Pilgrim; parents-in-law, Robert and Dianne Hudson; brother-in-law, Shawn (Sherri) Hudson with their son, Zack; nephews, Jeremy (Erin) Campbell with their son Tyler, Darrell (Jenna) Decker with their daughter, Hailey; nieces, Kate and Laura O'Neill, and Krystyn Pilgrim. MURPHY, MICHAEL JOSEPH - Michael Joseph Murphy of Hampton, NB passed peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Wednesday, February 20, 2008. Born in Calgary, AB, on August, 26, 1949, he was a son of the late Joseph Owen and Florence Ida (Veilleux) Murphy. Survived by his beloved wife, Shirley (Dyer) Murphy; his daughters, Janice (Rick) Moore of New York, Michelle Murphy (Richard Bartlett), Saint John, NB, Maggie Bastarache (Cory) of Grand Bay, NB; his sons, Fred (Toshié Urayama), Victoria, BC, Michael Gauvin (Mandy) of Vancouver, BC; two brothers, Terrence (Pauline) of Richmond, BC, and Dennis (June) of Saint John; his mother-in-law, Frances Dyer of Dartmouth, NS; five grandchildren, Clara and Serena Moore, Nicholas Bastarache, Maeve Bartlett and Skyla Gauvin; as well as several nieces and nephews. A carpenter and millwright by trade, he earned his B.Ed. at UNB Fredericton in 1982 while teaching for eleven years at Sussex Junior High School. After his teaching career, Mike co-founded Atlantic Label Ltd. in Saint John. He loved to travel anywhere warm and will be sincerely missed for his sense of humor, his love of telling good stories and always wanting to help others. Rod Mattatall SACKVILLE, NB - The death of Rod Mattatall, age 71, of Sackville occurred suddenly at The Moncton Hospital on Wednesday, February 20, 2008. Born in Malagash, he was a son of the late Elmer and Ruby (Betts) Mattatall. A lifelong artist, Rod began drawing at age six. In 1957, Rod was awarded a Scholarship to study at the Nova Scotia College of Art in Halifax. For thirty years, he was a Graphic Design Artist with Atlantic Wholesalers in Sackville and for 6 years was a teacher's assistant at Marshview Middle School. Rod has been teaching art to both children and adults for over 25 years. He has drawn all the portrait sketches for the Sackville Sports Wall of Fame since 1989. Rod's works are found in many private collections in Europe, Canada and the United States. In addition to his wife Kathy, he will be sadly missed by his son Kevin, Amherst; daughter Kellie, Sackville; grandson Julian; sister Jean Legere, Sackville, NS; brother Don, Truro, NS. A great family man, he will also be missed by all his In-Laws. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by brother-in-law Ronald Legere and sister-in-law Rose Mattatall. WILLIAMS, M. Hazel WILLIAMS, M. Hazel - Shubenacadie, passed away Friday, February 22, 2008, in Braeside Home for Special Care in Middle Musquodoboit. Born November 12, 1912 in Lake Egmont, Halifax Co., she was a daughter of the late Edgar B. and Elizabeth (Dillman) Milne. She was a lifelong member of Shubenacadie United Church and the UCW, and since 1937, a member of Crescent Rebekah Lodge No. 28. Hazel was a well-known and respected member of the community, having been employed for 30 years at the village Co-op. An avid gardener, she looked forward each year to the arrival of spring and the planting season. Hazel had a host of friends and loved serving tea to her many visitors. Despite her heart history, she continued to maintain herself in her home until mid 2006, when she required additional care and moved to the home of her son and daughter-in-law. Hazel is survived by her son, Blair and daughter-in-law, Wanda, Shubenacadie; sister, Olive MacIntosh, Truro; grandchildren, Kim Williams (Bev), Shubenacadie; Diana Pelrine (Kirk), Carrolls Corner; Karen Day, Chaswood; Willa Brown (Randy), Caledon, Ont. She is also survived by great-grandchildren, Matthew and Trent Pelrine, Nigel and Tristan Day, Samantha, Colin and Rachael Brown, and will be greatly missed by her two youngest great-grandchildren, Madelaine and Zachary Williams, Shubenacadie. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Earl, in 1948; brothers, Stanley, Richard, and Allan; sisters, Reta MacDonald, Clara Bond, Dorothy Frame, and Marion Milne, and infant grandson, Kevin Williams. At Hazel's request, there will be no visitation. SHAW, Myrtle Jane SHAW, Myrtle Jane - 90, Auburn, Kings Co., passed away peacefully Friday, February 22, 2008, in Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born July 25, 1917, in Nicholsville, Kings Co., she was a daughter of the late Bessie Ward and John White. Myrtle was a loving wife and mother. She took great pride in maintaining her home as a homemaker. Her greatest interests were cooking, sharing and visiting with neighbours and friends. She enjoyed going for scenic drives, shopping and dining out. Myrtle's hobbies were playing cards and caring for her flowers and house plants. She enjoyed music and would spend hours on the phone talking to friends and relatives. She was also a loving grandmother to her daughter's pets, Misty, Midnite and especially Cinders (the Shih Tzu). Myrtle cherished and found comfort every moment she could spend with Cinders, often helping to care for her. Myrtle will be sadly missed by her many family and friends. Surviving are daughter, Sandra Shaw, Berwick; brother, Roy Ward, Nicholsville; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Edward; brothers, Chester, Vernon, Harold; sisters, Eva, Blanche, Annie; son-in-law, Leeland Veinotte. GREENOUGH, Adelaide M. GREENOUGH, Adelaide M. - 83, Five Islands, Colchester Co., passed away Friday, February 22, 2008, in Parkstone Enhanced Care, Halifax. Born in Margaree Harbour, Cape Breton, she was a daughter of the late Haverstock and Jessie (Evans) MacLean. Adelaide began teaching school at the age of 16 in Chimney Corner. Following graduation from Normal College, she taught in Five Islands, Economy and Bass River for 28 years. She was vice principal in Bass River for many years, retiring in 1980. She was a long serving member of Peniel United Church, where she was active with the choir, Sunday school and served as treasurer. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Russell; daughter, Helen Greenough (John), Bedford; son, Dr. John Greenough, Kelowna, B.C.; sister, Ruby MacKay (Arthur), Margaree Harbour; brother, John MacLean (Cheryl), Margaree Harbour; granddaughter, Catherine Greenough, Kelowna; several nieces and nephews. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Mary Ann (MacDonald) Campbell announce her passing on February 22, 2008, in Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home. Born in Glencoe, she was a daughter of the late Alex Robert and Christena (MacDonald) MacDonald. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Glencoe, and the Glencoe CWL. ALLDREAD, Joseph Albert Leonard ALLDREAD, Joseph Albert Leonard - 86, born in Coalville, Leicestershire, England, on May 11, 1921, died in Halifax on February 22, 2008. He was predeceased by his mother and father, Miriam Rose (Bostock) and Joseph William Alldread; brother, Roy Alldread, and Roy's wife, Mary. He was also predeceased by his wife, Freda Alldread (Reynolds), in July 2006. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Judith and Austin Reade, and cousins, nieces, and a nephews in England. Second Lieutenant Alldread (RNVR) served with the Fleet Air Arm as a bomber pilot with 849 Squadron on HMS Victorious and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his successful leadership of raids on enemy-held oil refineries in Surnatra in April of 1945. Following war service, Mr. Alldread completed teacher training and began his career at Bridge Road Junior School in his home town. He moved to Croft, Leicestershire, in 1953 as Headmaster of the school there, and ended his educational career as Headmaster of South Greenhoe Middle School in Swaffham, Norfolk, England. Following retirement from the teaching profession, he and his wife emigrated to Canada to be close to their daughter. Together they enjoyed 25 years living in Kentville. Throughout his life, Mr. Alldread had close association with the Anglican Church and served as Church Warden of St. Peter and St. Paul, Swaffham, and St. James, Kentville. At the time of his death, he was a member of St. Augustine's Church, Jollimore. Both Leonard and his wife were involved with the Guide and Scout movement throughout much of their lives, and he held the Scout Medal of Merit and Thanks Badge. Amateur dramatics was another interest and Leonard was one of the founders of The Swaffham Players. Following the death of his wife, Mr. Alldread moved to Melville Heights Retirement Residence and sincere thanks must go to Mrs. Irene Swindells and her staff for their care and concern during his 14 month stay. A spring service is planned for St. James' Church, Kentville, when Mr. Alldread's ashes will be placed with those of his wife in the church's Garden of Rest. Born in Amherst, he was a son of the late Wilfred and Elodie (Goguen) Babineau. Roger, a printer by trade started his long career in Amherst, then went on to Fredericton, N.B., and later to Florida at the St. Pete's Times, prior to starting his own business. After returning to Amherst he was employed with the Atlantic Provinces Special Education Authority (APSEA) as well as partnering in Babineau Printing with his wife, Betty. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the St. Charles Parish Council. Roger, an avid sports enthusiast, played hockey, baseball, basketball, golf, curling and shuffling. He coached Ladies Basketball and Amherst Little League, and was a driving force starting Amherst Bantam Baseball. He was past president of the Amherst Curling Club. Roger is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, the former Harriet "Betty" (Lusby) Bird and her children, K. Ross (Mary), Dianne (Vaughn) Melanson, Sandra (Bill) Huntley, Karen Smith (Dale Hoeg) and Cheryl (Don) Smith, all of Amherst; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and his lifelong friend, Reginald Sonier. René était un étudiant en biologie à l’Université de l’Île-du-Prince-Édouard. Il était un athlète naturel qui s’est démarqué dans plusieurs disciplines: l’escrime, le soccer et la boxe, qui était devenue sa passion. René voulait se spécialiser en médecine sportive. MacDONALD, Florence Ellen MacDONALD, Florence Ellen - 89, Doctor's Brook, Antigonish Co., passed away peacefully on February 21, 2008, in Guysborough Memorial Hospital, Guysborough. Born in Arisaig, she was the daughter of the late Angus A. and Catherine (MacDonald) MacDonald. Florence married Joe MacDonald in 1941 and was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grand mother. Florence was an involved and active member of St. Margaret of Scotland Parish, and the Arisaig community in all its activities, whether the Arisaig picnic, or a parish dinner. She spent her life as a homemaker taking care of her extended family. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving are her sons, Donnie (Beverly), Greg (Paulette), Peter (Janet), Gerard, all of Doctor's Brook; 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Joe, "Captain Joe"; brothers, John, Zeno, and Alex Dan. Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today in MacIsaac Funeral Home, Antigonish. MERCER, John Herbert MERCER, John Herbert - 76, Wolfville, passed away Wednesday, February 20, 2008, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born on February 6, 1932, in Fredericton, N.B., he was a son of the late Herbert and Lois Mercer, Campbellton, N.B. He graduated from Campbellton High School and for a period of time worked as a radio announcer. He later graduated from Dalhousie University with a B.A. and a B.Ed. and the University of Toronto with a BLS and a MLS. He then taught high school in Nova Scotia, worked at libraries in Halifax, and for 29 years worked at the Vaughan Memorial Library, Acadia University, Wolfville, retiring in 1996. John was an active member of St. Andrew's United Church, Wolfville, having taught Sunday school there for over 25 years. He is survived by his wife, the former Mary Alice Smith; daughters, Nancy (Jim) Thomas, Spring Lake, Mich.; Sally, Vancouver, B.C. He was affectionately known as "Grumpy" by grandchildren, Kira, Zackary and Carson Thomas. He was predeceased by twin brother, James. Cremation has taken place under the direction of White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. There will be no visitation by family request. A celebration of John's life, followed by a reception, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, February 23, in St. Andrew's United Church, Rev. Robyn Brown-Hewitt officiating. It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the peaceful and sudden passing of Marie (Callahan) Benoit, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother on February 22, 2008, in Northside General Hospital. Born on August 13, 1937 in Giants Lake, Guysborough Co., Marie was the daughter of the late John and Mary (McNeil) Callahan. She is survived by her devoted, loving husband and best friend of 48 years, William Benoit; her children, Rosemary (Steven), Lorraine (Rob), Michelle (Ross), all of Alberta; Gerard (Brenda), Ontario; Jeanette (Carl), Michael, Denise and John (Denise), all of Halifax area; 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters, Pearl and Isabell, both of Pomquet, and her brother, Joseph, Ontario. Marie will be missed be her loving nieces and nephews and many dear friends. She will also be deeply missed by Jake Wall and family, a dear friend whom she referred to as a son. Besides her parents, Marie was predeceased by her brothers, Bernard, Jim, Sandy and Francis; sisters, Mary, Theresa and Anne. Marie was a member and past president of the St. Joseph's Parish CWL for 31 years, an associate member of the Sisters of St. Martha for 23 years and an 11 year member of the Northside General Palliative Care Unit. Throughout the years, Marie has been an inspiration to her family and anyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. She gave guidance and always had a listening ear, whether with family member, palliative care patient or a friend. This was a testament to her strong Christian faith. Una was born and raised in Halifax, and passed away peacefully, four months after her 100th birthday celebration. She was very fond of sports and community endeavors. She was a faithful member of Christ Church, Amherst. She was a very active member of the Anglican Church Women's Group, President and life member of the Highland View Women's Auxiliary, Life member and judge of the Amherst Figure Skating Club, also Past Regent and member of the Tantramar Chapter of the IODE. She had many friends and played tennis and badminton at the North Nova Badminton Club. She enjoyed golf and was a marvelous bridge player. CRABBE, James V. The death occurred at the Beach Grove Home, Charlottetown, P.E.I. on Thursday, February 21, 2008 of James V. Crabbe, formerly of Charlottetown and Milton, P.E.I., in his 101st year. Jim was the youngest son of the late John and Phoebe Crabbe (nee Darke) of Milton, P.E.I. and the last surviving member of his family. He was predeceased by his wife, Ada Ford and the following siblings, Mae L. Carr (Howard), Ernest (Marion), Benjamin (Isabel), Joseph (Betty), Milton (Leita), Frank (Edith) and Leslie. He is survived by two sisters-in-law, Edith, Mrs. Frank Crabbe of Charlottetown and Betty, Mrs. Joseph Crabbe of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and many nephews and nieces. James Crabbe was an Orangeman of many years standing, and was honoured as Master of the Grand Lodge of P.E.I.. But the office which fitted him best was that of Grand Marshall where his horsemanship was evident as he led, resplendent on his grey charger, the Parade of Orangemen on the Glorious Twelfth. Friends may visit at Central Queen’s Funeral Home, 2538 Glasgow Road, New Glasgow, P.E.I. on Friday, February 22 from 4 to 6 p.m. A Memorial Service by the LOL and LOBA will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 3:45 p.m. Jim was a long time member of Spring Park United Church from where his funeral will take place on Saturday, February 23 at 2 p.m. Burial will be beside his late wife, Ada, at the North Winsloe United Church Cemetery. DAVIS, Ernest S. Peacefully, surrounded by family, at the Prince County Hospital, Summerside, on Wednesday, February 20, 2008, of Ernest S. Davis of 152 Arnett Ave., Summerside, and formerly of Kensington, in his 86th year. Veteran of Second World War. Born in Five Islands, N.S., February 23, 1922, son of the late Harry and Floretta (Eagles) Davis. Survived by his wife of 61 years, Minnie G. (Gill) Davis. Father of Bill (Sandra), Summerside; Kenny (Paulette), Summerside; Kevin (Jane), Summerside; Greg (Tina), Kensington. Father-in-law of Charlie Barlow, Clermont. Also survived by Rose Lewis, Five Islands, N.S. Grandfather of Angela, Crystal, Jolene, Tanya, Kelly, Cathy, Patty, David, Kayla, Travis, Mark, Ryan and Breann, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Uncle of Donna Davis, Beaverbank, N.S., as well as several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his daughter, Elizabeth Barlow; daughter-in-law, Judy Davis; and brother, Clarence and his wife, Muriel Davis. Resting at the Davison Funeral Home, Kensington, for visitation on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Saturday in the Davison Funeral Home Chapel at 10:30 a.m. Interment in People's Cemetery, Kensington.
