Beloved wife of the late Johann Ratsep (Feb.12, 2007). Loving mother of Seppo Välikangas (Christine) of Signapore, Maria (Peter) of Kingston, Irene of Timmins, Kristiina of Toronto and John of Schumacher. Virginia (née Rolando) Ducharme of Earlton died at the Englehart and District Hospital on February 10, 2008 at the age of 83. Mrs. Ducharme is survived by her husband Gérald Ducharme; children Aurel (and Annette), André (and Jeannine), Cécile (and Ron) Lincourt, Yvon (and Lise), Pauline (and Don) Ethier, Denise Kerr, Jackie (and Bill) Hinchey and Rachelle (and Paul) Marquardt; 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; and her sister Angelina. She was predeceased by her parents Pietro and Carolina Rolando; brothers Dominico and Dino; and sisters Madeleine and Marguerite. BLACK, Lael Kiko November 10, 1997 - February 12, 2008 It is with extreme sadness that we announce that our little Angel, Lael, passed away peacefully at home in the arms of her parents May and Jeff on Tuesday, February 12, 2008 after a long and courageous battle with cancer, at the age of 10 years. Lael was born in Vancouver on November 10, 1997, and moved with her family to Calgary in 2003. She was the happiest child you could possibly imagine, hardly a minute went by without Lael having a smile on her face. Her battle with cancer never took that beautiful smile away. Lael was so brave and such a fighter that not once did she ever complain about treatments or the pain. The hospital staff was always amazed at how nothing seemed to faze her. When we arrived in Calgary Lael chose to go to Webber Academy because she loved their uniforms and friendly atmosphere. It was the perfect choice as Lael met great friends and had the most wonderful teachers. Her favourite part of school was recess as that was when she could play with her friends and make new ones. She had just the greatest sense of humour. One time when her mom and dad were having a discussion her dad said jokingly to Lael "I'm smarter than your mother, right?" Lael replied without missing a beat "I'm even smarter than you dad." Lael's favourite thing in the whole world was all the time we spent together as a family and having our "family hugs" which occurred daily. She was always so concerned about how others felt and never wanted to hurt anyone's feelings. Even stuffies that she received as gifts she made sure that she played with all of them so they would not feel neglected. A while ago Lael thought one day she would like to become an artist, however, after spending so much time at the hospital she decided that she wanted to become an Oncology research doctor. Our little Angel Lael is in heaven now where she can do or be anything she wants. RODGERS, Clarence Gilbert entered into rest on January 10th, 2008, at the Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay. Gilbert was the son of the late William and Lucy Rodgers, husband of the late Edna McFadyen and is survived by two sisters, Margaret King of Cambray, and Ruth Jones of Lindsay. He will be missed by many nieces and nephews. Gilbert tended to the family farm until failing health saw the farm of four-generations (1858-2002) sold and he moved to Lindsay. He was a member of the Cambray Church, where he served in different offices over the years, and was a member of the Orange Lodge from an early age. Complete funeral service was held at the Mackey Funeral Home on January 12, 2008. Rev. Rick Hobbs officiated the service. 10991290

SEELYE, Marilyn 1944 - 2008 Marilyn Alice Seelye passed from this earth Monday, February 11, 2008 with grace and courage. She will be lovingly remembered by her sons Daniel and Michael Rudd, her brother Edward Seelye and many friends. Marilyn was raised in Alix and Red Deer and spent most of her adult life in Calgary where she was known for her activism and passion for social justice. Philanthropy is defined as "generous help or benevolence towards one's fellow man" and Marilyn was a true philanthropist. She loved Alberta, poetry, political discussion and art. But most of all she was a devoted mother to her sons, and her home in Forest Lawn was a place of refuge for all who entered in. In her last months, Marilyn received the kind of love and care she had given all her life. Her friends and family are deeply grateful to all those from Respiratory Services, Unit 61 and I.C.U. of Foothills Hospital; particularly Wendy Rudko, Meng Gudeta and Dr. Chip Doig. SHANTZ, Max Ray Beloved father of Cindy and Geraldine and brother of Reg passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at the age of 96. ARNOTT, Catherine Anna “Kay“ - Peacefully at Maple View Long-Term Residence in Owen Sound on Thursday February 14, 2008 in her 89th year. “Kay“ was born in her mother's home in Owen Sound on December 26, 1919. Beloved wife for sixty-two years of the late Ormond Alfred “Lou“Arnott (passed away 2006). Beloved mother of Bill Arnott (Candace Bouchard) and Lynda (Don Fritzsch). Grandmother of Paul Fritzsch (Patricia) of Newmarket and Scott Fritzsch (Robin) of Minneapolis. Great grandmother of Catherine Emma Fritzsch. Remembered by sister-in-law Bernice (Harold Brown), of Owen Sound. A loved aunt of many nieces and nephews in Ontario and British Columbia. Predeceased by her parents Elizabeth and Tom Brown and step father Bert Foote, her brothers Harold and Lionel Brown, sisters-in-law Shirley Gladson (nee Arnott) and Evelyn Brown, brother-in-law Tom Arnott and by two nephews Tom Brown and Wayne Plomp. Growing up during the depression after losing her father to influenza she learned from her mother how to make meals with limited ingredients and unlimited imagination. She knew how to prepare various dishes from local wildlife when food was scarce. Her baking was done with a “pinch of this, a bit of that“ and a “you can tell from the feel when it's ready.“ Her favourite beverage was fresh brewed tea with a “blip of milk“. She would talk about growing up in the area with pleasure and a sparkle in her eye. Backing up the old 10th Street West hill in a Model T Ford, or bundling up and going out to Shallow Lake to visit her uncles in the horse drawn sleigh were some of her stories. Her joy as a child was going to Sauble River and spending time fishing and swimming. After high school she attended the Northern School of Business. She learned important skills of the day which included dictation, typing, filing and accounting. She met and married Lou in early 1944 and traveled with him to Truro, Nova Scotia while he was stationed at Camp Debert and while he was in England. After the war ended and Lou was discharged from the forces they returned to Owen Sound to raise their family. She worked for several downtown businesses setting up bookkeeping and accounting systems. Kay worked for the Owen Sound Parks Board and took the job as office manager when the Owen Sound Health Unit was formed in 1963 and stayed until her retirement in 1984. She was a member of the Roselawn Lawn Bowling Club for many years and enjoyed traveling. She volunteered with Red Cross Blood Donation program for many years and was also a member of the Owen Sound Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Coming from pioneering stock she was a pioneer herself. She kept the family finances in order, worked a full time job and ensured that her kids were taken care of. Friends may call at the BRECKENRIDGE- ASHCROFT FUNERAL HOME on Sunday February 17 from 7 to 9pm. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday morning at 11am. Gastronome, elle prenait plaisir a recevoir les gens chez elle. Le bien- être de sa famille demeurait sa première préoccupation et elle sut y voir au bienfait de tous. Georgette sera toujours reconnue comme étant une femme devouée à l'amour, la gentillesse et la compassion à l'égard des gens mais surtout envers sa famille. Une perte inoubliable. Daughter of the late Peter and Tikinia Naturkach of Manitoba. Beloved mother of John and his wife Linda of Whitby, Peter and his wife Pat of Nepean and the late Monica Leslie. Cherished grandmother of Ben, Karen and Louis. Dear sister of Ann, Mary, John (Jack) and Dorothy, all of Manitoba. Predeceased by sister Nettie and brothers Mike, Nick and Billie. Graduate of the School of Nursing, Winnipeg General Hospital, 1946. Worked as V.O.N. Winnipeg, Medical Support Churchill Mines, Manitoba, Nursing Oshawa General Hospital (retired 1970). Wilma was very active in her community, being a member of several bridge clubs, the ACW and 35 year member of the Golden Jubilee Chapter IODE, and she lent her cooking skills to several good causes. Her love of flowers was evident in her glorious rock garden at her home in Oshawa and the orchid and memorial gardens at White Cliffe Terrace in Courtice. She was an active member of Christ Church Flower Altar Guild and the Oshawa Garden Club. Special thanks to the staff at White Cliffe for their years of support, staff of T & E Health Pros, Dr. Brankston, nurses and doctors at Lakeridge Health Corp. SHERLOCK, John Rolf July 30, 1946 - February 12, 2008 Rolf Sherlock, a native Calgarian, passed away suddenly at his home on Tuesday, February 12, 2008. Words cannot express how greatly he will be missed by his loving wife Gail, son Mark, daughter Lisa, son-in-law Phillip; his sister Royale Downes (Paul), and his father F. John Sherlock. He loved, cared for and encouraged his wife and children with all his heart and soul. Rolf loved skiing, the outdoors, friends, cooking, his pets and so much more. He spent countless hours with his loving animal companions: Charlie, Tiff, Storm, Rip and Moss. He will be remembered fondly as an incredibly loyal family man, friend and leader. He thrived on challenges and lived for learning, researching, and problem-solving which he always approached with enthusiasm, passion and perfectionism. A graduate of the University of Calgary, Faculty of Commerce, Rolf enjoyed an enduring and rewarding career in the field of information technology and research. He was a dedicated employee of IBM for over thirty years. He took great joy and interest in the lives of his nieces and nephews: Tyler, Lyndsay (Jeff), Jamie (Derek), Taryn, and Michael; sisters-in-law Deb (Rob Cornelssen), and Pam Anderson; and father-in-law Dr. Roy Anderson. Carl Pufahl Posted By Posted 20 days ago Carl William Pufahl of Chesley passed away peacefully at South Bruce Grey Health Centre, Chesley, on Friday, February 1, 2008, in his 95th year. Beloved husband of the late Lena Lipskie (1999). Dear father of Ken and Lillian of Chesley, and Dorothy and her husband Elgin McMillan of Waterloo. Carl will be missed by his grandchildren Tina and Will, Adam and his fiancée Tammy, Brian, and great-granddaughter Nayal. Carl will be fondly remembered by his sister Marjorie and her husband Allan Gates of Sauble, and sisters-in-law Louise Miller, Eva Lipskie, Jean Lipskie and Pearl Bested. Carl was predeceased by his parents Herman and Edith Pufahl (Golem), sisters Margaret Pufahl, Stella Fillsinger and brother Fred. The late Carl Pufahl was a respected Chesley citizen who will be deeply missed by his many friends and relatives. Carl was born on Nov. 3, 1913 on the family farm in Sullivan Township. He married Lena Lipskie on June 4, 1941 and for five years Carl worked at the T.J. Hemstock seed cleaning plant, grist mill and saw mill in Sullivan Township. In 1946, Carl bought the John Duff farm on Lot 4 Concession 6 in Sullivan Township and farmed there for 29 years. Retirement followed in 1975, and a new home on Tower Park Road in Chesley was purchased. Carl was a people person who loved being involved in the community. He was an avid lawn bowler and curler; he alley bowled, loved playing euchre and solo as well as crokinole, never missed a jamboree and participated in the senior games. He also was a member of the Elmwood Senior Citizens Club and St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. In 1997 Carl and Lena sold their home and moved into the newly built Islay House. Lena passed away in 1999 and Carl continued to live there till June, 2007, and then became a resident of the Elgin Abbey Lodge in Chesley... Rev. Terri-Ann Mathiasson of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Chesley officiated for the funeral service held on February 4 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Chesley. Sharing remembrances of Carl’s life were his son-in-law Elgin, grandson Adam, Dianne King (St. Mark’s), Karen Rhody (Chesley Hospital) and Jennifer Soper (Elgin Abbey). Also taking part in the service by reading scripture was Marjorie Gates. Grandchildren Adam, Brian and Tina each lit a candle of remembrance. A violin medley was played by organist Joan McMartin. Pallbearers were Adam McMillan, Brian McMillan, Brian Lipskie, Dave Lipskie, Keith Krueger and Ron Krueger. Funeral arrangements were made through the Cameron Funeral Home, Chesley. Interment will be in the spring at the Desboro Cemetery.

LAURIE, Shirley (nee Hunter) Shirley passed away February 6, 2008 at age 86, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's. She was predeceased by her beloved husband James, whom she met when he was stationed in Calgary as a flying instructor with the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan. Born in Calgary, Shirley grew up in Sunnyside and graduated from Crescent Heights High School. She served with the Canadian Army in Ottawa prior to marrying Jim. ALLAN, William (Bill) C. William (Bill) C. Allan passed away peacefully at his home on February 13, 2008 at the age of 95. Bill was born May 5, 1912 at Parkland, Alberta and came to Olds in 1933. It was here he met his wife of seventy-three years, Isabel Hays. Through the years Bill was a well known businessman and avid sportsman, particularly curling, (he curled up until 2005), skiing, swimming, baseball, hunting and golfing. OHLHAUSER, Ron July 17, 1950 - February 12, 2008 Mr. Ronald "Ron" Wallace Ohlhauser of Coaldale, beloved husband of Mrs. Judy Ohlhauser, passed away on Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at the age of 57 years. Born and raised in Carbon, Alberta, he attended school in Carbon and Drumheller, played hockey in Three Hills and baseball in Beiseker. Ron completed Petroleum Technology at SAIT and then worked in the oil and gas industry. He worked for Norcen for over twenty years before beginning his own consulting company, Pfain Consulting in Coaldale, Alberta. Throughout these years he made many friends through baseball, curling, golf and hockey. He will always be remembered by all of his friends for his quick sense of humor and his love for practical jokes. Ron is survived by his wife Judy; daughters Crystal and Kalyn; son Craig; mother Eileen Ohlhauser of Carbon; sisters Tammy (Ben) Vornbrock and family, Donna (Bob) Tucker and family all of Calgary; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bill and Myrtle Kuzio of Drayton Valley; brother-in-law Gale (Rose) Kuzio and family of Drayton Valley; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Marie had a long and fruitful career as a music and drama teacher with the Calgary Board of Education. She conducted many award winning vocal and hand bell choirs at the Kiwanis Music Festivals.
