Durand Paul-Émile 1941 - 2008 « Ne dites pas mourir, dites naître. » (V.H.) À l’Hôpital de l’Enfant-Jésus, Québec, le 9 février 2008, à l’âge de 66 ans 3 mois, est décédé monsieur Paul-Émile Durand, fils de feu dame Lucienne Godbout et de feu monsieur Joseph Durand. Originaire de St-Pierre I.O., monsieur demeurait à Boischatel. Les membres de la famille recevront les condoléances à La Seigneurie Coopérative Funéraire 2450, av. St-Clément, Québec arrondissement Beauport (autoroute de la Capitale, sortie Bourg-Royal no 318) le mardi 12 février 2008 à compter de 10h. En sa mémoire suivra à 11h une célébration de la parole. BARBEAU, Jacques Paisiblement, le 7 février 2008, Jack est décédé après un bref et courageux combat contre le cancer. Il restera dans nos mémoire un homme aimant la vie, le grand air, tout particulièrement la pêche. Jack aimait la bonne table, le bon vin et les grandes conversations. Ses derniers jours, entouré par sa famille et ses amis, furent un merveilleux hommage à sa fierté et à son esprit courageux. COX, Jean Victoria COX, Jean Victoria - 86, of Middleton, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 9, 2008 in the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in New Glasgow, she was the daughter of the late William James and Catherine (Pushie) Graham. In her early years Jean attended school in Stellarton and graduated from Acadia University with a B.Sc. in home economics. She was employed as a dietician at the Ottawa Civic Hospital and later returned to Acadia to complete her B.Ed. degree. She taught in Timmons, Ont., Ottawa and Halifax. Jean was the first dietician at the new Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. She studied library science at Dalhousie University and established a library at RCAF Station, Greenwood. She was a member of the I.O.D.E., Order of the Eastern Star and the United Church Women. Surviving are sons, Graham (Linda), Bridgewater; Harold (Elizabeth), Middleton; six grandchildren, Lisa, Matthew, Ryan, David, Nicole and Adam. She was predeceased by her husband Rev. Harold T. Cox, the former RCAF Chaplain, and former minister of St. John's United Church. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation, however, a reception will be held following the memorial service. The memorial service will be held Saturday, February 16, at 2 p.m., in St. John's United Church, Middleton. Private interment will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery, Middleton. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jean, may be made to the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society, or St. John's United Church Memorial Fund. DEVEAU, Lionel Thomas "Leo" DEVEAU, Lionel Thomas "Leo" - 73, Darlings lake, Yarmouth Co., passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on February 8, 2008 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital, surrounded by his loving wife of 44 years, June Deveau (McAuley) and children, Mitcheal (Marsha) Wellington, Denise (Terry) Hubbard, Wedgeport; Melissa (Derek) Crowell, South Ohio; his six very special grandchildren, Stephanie, Lynnelle, Daphne, Donavan, Hudson and Serenity-Carrington. Also, he will be missed by his loyal and faithful companion, his dog "Baby". He was a self-employed carpenter for the past 36 years. Previous to that he was employed by Oatis and Horn Elevators in Toronto as an elevator mechanic for many years. He was also a baker at Cornwallis Basin, and for two years he lived in Vietnam building roads as part of a construction crew. He is survived by his sisters, Lucille Khatab, Darlings Lake; Genieve Comeau, Meteghan; Isabelle Eisner, Middleton; Delores LeBlanc, Salmon River; Rosemma Jacquard and Frances Upton, both of Yarmouth. He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Adele Deveau, formerly of Salmon River; brothers, Emile, Roger, Edward, Wilfred and sister Anne, in infancy. Visitation was held Sunday in Huskilson's Funeral Home, Yarmouth. Funeral to take place in St. Vincent de Paul, Salmon River, today at 11 a.m. with Father Albernie D'Entremont officiating. Burial to take place at a later date. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.

LINDSTROM, Fabian 2008-02-11 Fabian Nils Lindstrom, age 98 years , formerly a long time resident of Prince Arthur Blvd. passed away peacefully with his family at his side at Grandview Lodge Home for the Aged on Saturday, February 9, 2008. Born in 1909, Brattsbacka, Sweden, Fabian emigrated to Canada in October 1928 finding his way to work as a miner in Red Lake and moving to Sioux Lookout were he met and married his wife Lillian of 66 years. Later they both moved to Fort William where he worked as a carpenter. In the 1940’s Fabian along with his partner Gar Stead created a well known General Contracting firm Stead and Lindstrom Ltd. which he operated until his retirement in 1976. During his career he was on the Board of Directors for Great West Timber and many sawmill related businesses throughout North Western Ontario. Fabian enjoyed many summers with his family at the camp at Mackenzie Beach with his children and later in life with his grandchildren. He was a long time member of the Elk’s Lodge No 82 having received his 50 year pin and a member of Knox United Church Pruden Street. Fabian will be sadly missed by his loving children, Betty Ann (Reg) Fogolin, and Harold (Liz), his grandchildren Joel and Nola Fogolin, Andrew, Matthew, and Heather Lindstrom, great-grandson Cameron Fogolin, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Margaret and Roy Belluz of Guelph, and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his wife Lillian, infant son Joseph, daughter Marlene Rogers, son-in-law Garnett Rogers, two sisters and five brothers. A Memorial Celebration of Fabian’s life will be held on Thursday, February 14th, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. in Knox United Church (Pruden Street) with Rev. Doreen Lankshear-Smith officiating. A private interment will be held at a later date.

JONES, Christopher Bryce - It is with tremendous sadness that we grieve the unexpected death of Christopher Bryce Jones, PO2 (retired) RCN, the beloved husband of Anne Marie (Lorincz), loving father to Ivy Rose and Justice Dylan, on February 7, 2008 at home. Chris was born in England, on May 16, 1957 and arrived in Canada at the ripe old age of three months. Chris proudly served 25 years in the Royal Canadian Navy. He loved his family, his friends, fly fishing, football and the great outdoors. He also had a great passion for his motorcycle and enjoyed riding all year. Chris was a member of the East Coast Gun Run during the Nova Scotia Tattoo. He enjoyed a good joke, and could tell a good story. He will be remembered for being kind hearted, generous, and a wonderful friend. His lifelong love of the arts and reading was carried on to his children. Chris was always eager to share wisdom and life lessons, as well as tales of his adventures. He taught us that the frailty of the body can be overcome by the strength of the heart. He is survived by his parents Deryk and Josephine (Waterman) Jones; sisters, Gloria and Mary Kay; brother, Graeme (Lori); and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Christopher will also be sadly missed by his in-laws, Joe and Diane (Stolzman) Lorincz, Nandor, Amy, Lorraine (Frank) and nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. February 12 at Dartmouth Funeral Home, Queen St., Dartmouth. Funeral service will be held 3 p.m. at Christ Church, Ochterloney Street, Dartmouth. His interests in history, geography, worlds events, politics, Ukrainian language and culture were reflected in his love to share knowledge, debate and discuss with his beloved children and grandchildren. Mikhailo immigrated to Canada with his wife Sofija twenty years ago to join their children and their families which he cherished greatly. He passed away on Friday February 8th, 2008 on his and Sofija's 60th wedding anniversary in the St. Joseph Hospital. May his legend carry on with the traditions and memories of his life in our hearts for eternity and may the torch of his eminent Ukrainian spirit be passed on to our family for generations to come. GARLAND, Michael G. 2008-02-11 Mr. Michael G. Garland, age 80, died peacefully after a long illness on February 10, 2008 at his residence, Grandview Lodge. Family members were by his side. Born in Port Arthur, his parents moved to Finmark shortly afterwards. He enlisted in the Canadian Army at seventeen and served until the end of World War II. He then earned a certificate as a Class "A" mechanic and later a Bachelor of Theology. After his marriage in 1951 he lived in Finmark, Geraldton, Nipigon, and Thunder Bay before moving to Conmee Township to land which his parents-in-law had pioneered. For about ten years he owned and operated Airlane Motors, and during this period was also engrossed in recreational flying. He was the first president of the Kakabeka Flying Club and a volunteer with Lakehead Search and Rescue Unit, and an active member of the Pentecostal Church. He is survived by his only child, Glenna (Earl) Hunt of Conmee Township, and by his three grandchildren Nicole, Ryan (Andrea) and Ian Landgraff. Also surviving are siblings Dolores Kivi, Joan Gagnier, Ann Brunelle (Benoit) and John (Verna) Garland, as well as numerous other relatives. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Terttu (Pokki), his parents John and Inez Garland, his brother Patrick Garland and his son-in-law Brian Landgraff. Funeral service for Michael will be held on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at 10:00 AM in the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma with dear family friend, Jack Roberts officiating. Interment will follow in Conmee Cemetery. Should friends so desire, donations to a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated. The family wishes to thank the compassionate staff at Grandview Lodge who have given Michael such excellent care during the past years, as well as the much appreciated considerations shown to them by friends and employers at this difficult time.
