ANTHONY, Ryan Evan ANTHONY, Ryan Evan - 25, Yarmouth, passed away suddenly at home on February 3, 2008. Born in Yarmouth, he was the youngest son of Blaine and Stella (Murphy) Anthony, and brother to Jeff. Ryan graduated from Yarmouth Consolidated Memorial High School in June 2002, and was very proud of his graduation class ring. Ryan also attended Burridge Community College. Ryan worked at Dayton Fruit and Vegetable, and especially enjoyed greeting customers. Ryan also loved being downtown and socializing with friends, acquaintances and merchants alike. He was a floor hockey, bowling, soccer and ringette team member in the Yarmouth Special Olympics and won numerous medals. In addition to his parents and brother, Ryan is survived by his paternal grandmother, Emily Anthony; his Murphy aunts and uncles, Billy, Halifax; Margaret, Plymouth; Edward (Darlene), Pleasant Valley; Marilyn, Wedgeport; Claire, Plymouth; Thomas (Becky), Sackville; Milton (Kathryn), Wedgeport; George (Sandy), Yarmouth; Roland (Irene), Wedgeport; his Anthony aunts and uncles, Rebecca, Chebogue; Leland (Dianne), Chebogue; Sharon, Hebron; numerous cousins and many friends. He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Robert Anthony; maternal grandparents, Loren and Anna Murphy, and paternal uncle, Wendel Anthony. Funeral service will be held today at 11 a.m. in Sweeny's Funeral Chapel. Private burial to be held at a later date. CLARK, Edward Perry CLARK, Edward Perry - 68, Pictou Landing, formerly of Halifax, passed away Monday, February 4, 2008, in Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Bridgetown, October 3, 1939, he was a son of the late Ward and Elsie (Atwell) Clarke. He was a pressman working at the Queen Printers, Halifax, for 27 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and being in the outdoors. Ed had a passion for collecting old guns and muskets, and enjoyed participating in the re-enactments of the Fortress of Louisburg. He will be sadly missed by his wife, Elizabeth Ann (Timmins); daughter, Sheri LeBlanc (James), and grandson, Douglas, Halifax; son, Jared, Halifax; stepchildren, Raymond Russell Wallage and granddaughter McKena, Ottawa; Dwayne Wallage (Paulette), Peggy's Cove; Conway Wallage, Dartmouth; Kathleen Wallage and grandchildren Jessica and Delaney, Dartmouth; brother, John Clarke (Joan), Pictou Landing; sister, Freda Mailman (Roy), Bridgetown; close friends, Shirley and Earl Crosby, Sylvester. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation by request. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday in Eagles Funeral Chapel, Westville, with Tom Ronkey officiating. JAMES, Elliott Milton JAMES, Elliott Milton - 79, Dartmouth, passed away February 5, 2008, in the VG Site, QEII. Born in Oakfield, N.Y., he was a son of the late William A. and Florence (Beaver) James. Elliott worked at HMC Dockyard in the Weapons Division for 34 years, until his retirement in 1988. He was a charter member of Woodlawn United Church, and was a member of the Men's Club. He was very involved in the Woodlawn Kiwanis Club where he was past president. Elliott was a member of the Dartmouth Lawn Bowling Club, and was a volunteer at IWK Health Centre. He enjoyed gardening, traveling with his wife and lunching at the Senior's Club on Ochterloney Street. He is survived by his son, Brian D. (Susan) James, Lower Sackville; brother, Donald (Rae) James, Dartmouth; grandchildren, Nicholas and Andrew James, Lower Sackville; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in 2002 by his loving wife, Margaret Marie (Hudson). Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Thursday from 7-9 p.m. in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth. A memorial service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in Woodlawn United Church, Rev. Roland Murray officiating. Burial will be in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens, with a reception to follow in the funeral home. Donations may be made to the Pleasant Harbour United Church Cemetery Fund or Canadian Cancer Society. MacDONALD (Purvis), Willna Cavell MacDONALD (Purvis), Willna Cavell - Plymouth Park, passed away on Sunday, February 3, 2008, in Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born November 26, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Nellie (MacLean) Purvis (Lower Plymouth). Willna's happiest times were spent at home with her family and visiting with her friends. She will be remembered for her ability to fill her home with warmth and her days with laughter. Willna graduated from Maritime Business College in Halifax and was employed at the Acadia Coal Company office in Stellarton prior to her marriage. She was a resident of Lower Plymouth for much of her earlier life other than the 13 years she and her family lived in Sydney River. She was actively involved in the community there with particular interest in the Y's Menette Club. Willna was a member of Sharon St. John United Church in Stellarton and taught Sunday school there for several years. In later years, she greatly enjoyed the many friends she made in both the Trenton Twirlers and Plymouth Seniors Club. She was also proud to serve as a volunteer for the Pictou County Seniors Help Line. She is survived by her daughter, Carol Demchuk (Greg), Middle Sackville; her son, Robert MacDonald (Janet), Plymouth Park; her grandson, Luke MacDonald, and granddaughter, Leslie MacLeod (Andrew). Willna was predeceased by her husband, Rolph MacDonald, and infant brother, Robert. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, February 8, in H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Home, Stellarton, with Rev. Charles McPherson officiating. STREVETT, Patricia - On February 2, 2008 Pat Strevett, nurse, pilot and supermom passed away after a brave battle with cancer at Trenton Memorial Hospital. Jon, her beloved husband of 52 years and devoted daughter Susie & her husband Roger were at her side. She was 76 years old. Daughter of Leslie (Bill) and Eleanor Sykes, she was born in Blackpool, England. Patricia emigrated to Canada with her loving, soon-to-be husband to marry and start a family. A great inspiration and source of comfort, she will be sadly missed by her four children Gary (Claire), Mike (Cindy), Susie (Roger) and Tim (Shirley). Patricia was a pillar of strength, lavish with praise and constant supporter of her seven grandchildren: Melissa, Bradley, Rebecca, Rachel, Taylor, Olivia and Cameron. Always a positive role model, loyal and dedicated to her family and close friends, she is survived by her sister Audrey in the UK. Being married to a pilot in the forces meant the Strevett family enjoyed living in Trenton, Exeter, Shearwater, Greenwood, Ottawa and Trenton again. For the last 35 years Patricia called Bayside home. Thanks to all the wonderful staff at Trenton Memorial Hospital for taking such great care of mum in her final times. MARKHAM, Thelma Cathren - a resident of Blenheim Community Village Retirement Residence. Thelma Cathren Markham died at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, Chatham Campus on Monday February 4, 2008. Thelma was born on the 5th concession of Dover May 5, 1916, only daughter of Pete and Thirsa (Woods) Baillargeon. She attended SS#10 public school and later moved to Dover Centre and then Oldfield Community and from there to Wallaceburg for 17 years before making her permanent residence in Port Lambton. She was very active at Oldfield Church and was president of the UCW for sometime and also president at Port Lambton Sunshine Club. Dear mother of Garda Markham, Chatham; Glenn & Betty Markham, Erie Beach; twin sons Gary Markham, Alberta and Garland Markham, Kitchener. ROWE - Robert (Bob) - Captain Bob Rowe was born in North Bay, ON where he lived for most of his life. He skippered the Chief Commanda II until 1986. Captain Bob loved the water and therefore could be found plying the waters of Lake Nipissing and the French River. He eventually settled in Saskatchewan with his wife, Lois, but never lost his joy of the water life. Bob was predeceased by his parents, William and Ida (nee Gauthier) Rowe; a brother, Lorne and a sister, Alice. Predeceased by her parents Eric and Ethel Cheasley from Surrey, England and her daughter Dawn Kingaby nee [Pigeau] (Alan) and Suzanne Pigeau (Brian) She is survived by her Sister Beryl Stokes and brother George Cheasley both still in England, Garth [Fay] Pigeau, Chisholm. Brian Pigeau, Calgary, Norm [Judie] North Bay. David [Vicky] Winnipeg and Bernadette [Mauro] Picco of Hanmer. Betty will be sadly missed by 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Betty came to Canada in 1966 from England to raise her family. She continued her career as a nurse at North Bay Psychiatric Hospital until she retired. She enjoyed her life to the fullest through her volunteer work with the War brides of Canada, Past president of the Ladies auxiliary of the Callander Legion #449 and Member of the St. John's Therapy Dogs in Sudbury. PIERCY, WALLACE JAMES EWEN "MIKE" - With his loving family surrounding him, Wallace James Ewen "Mike" Piercy passed away at the home of his daughter in Lincoln, NB on Tuesday, February 5th, 2008. He was 75. Born April 28th, 1932 in Geary, NB, he was the son of the late Bowman and Della (Smith) Piercy and husband of the late Florence "Honey" (McDonald) Piercy, whom he was married to for over 56 years. Mike was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was a businessman who operated the Esso Service Station in Lincoln for over 30 years. A member of the Lower Lincoln Baptist Church as well as the Alexandria Lodge #33, and the Luxor's Shriners Temple with the Fire Brigade. Survived by his five children, Tim Piercy (Wendy), Annette Munn (Bob), Ted Piercy (Louise), Tom Piercy (Janet) and Terry Piercy (Debbie), all of Fredericton; 13 grandchildren, Trent, Shelley, Todd, Justin, Travis, Tyler, Kayle, Michael, Katie and Karley Piercy, Sherry, Becky and Bonny Munn; 4 great-grandsons, Cameron, Ryan, Oliver and Teigan; sister-in-law Ruby Piercy; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by an infant daughter, Juanita, grandsons Andrew and Tyson; brothers Beecher, Ewart and infant brother Phillip. McINTOSH, MICHAEL A. - We regret to announce the death of Mike McIntosh at the Saint John Regional Hospital on February 5, 2008. He was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth McIntosh on April 24, 2000. Mike is survived by his sons, Michael (Mary Jo) and Rayford McIntosh. His grandchildren, Andrew McIntosh (Debbie) Susan, Michael (Stephanie), Joan Huskins (Rick), Natasha (David), Kari (Andrew), and Shane (Diane); and great-grandchildren, Patrick, Ian, Keegan, Thomas, Spencer and Kiera. Michael was born in Glace Bay, NS on May 21, 1927. He was a proud veteran of the Merchant Navy and a member of the RCR occupation forces in Germany. He was a founding member of local 131, Insulators Union and for over 40 years worked on many of New Brunswick's major projects. He was also a long standing member of the NB Legion, including Branch #2 and Jervis Bay. Mike was a devoted family man who loved having everyone around him. Although not completely politically correct, he had a wicked sense of humor. He loved his wife, his family, flowers, gardening, his truck and his friends (we are not sure of the order). Ernest W. Robb Ernest Weston Robb ,97, of The Jordan Lifecare Center, The Glades passed away there on Sunday February 3, 2008. Born at Pollett River, he was a son of the late Frank and Olivia (Bannister) Robb. Ernest was employed at various jobs throughout his life including forestry and the W.H. Miller Mill in Campbellton, the former Jordan Memorial Home, N.B. Power and at the former Powers Pit Landfill. He was a Veteran of the Second World War having served in Europe with the New Brunswick Rangers and had attended the Glades Baptist Church. Survived by his daughter, Barbara Robb of River Glade; and by several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his wife, Viola; brothers, Everett, Lloyd, Arnold, Ralph and Murray; infant sister, Olive; and his sister, Dorothy Steeves. SULLIVAN, RAYMOND- The passing of Raymond Sullivan of the Victoria Glen Manor occurred on February 4, 2008 at the Victoria Glen Manor at the age of 94. Born in Cliffordville, NB he was the son of the late Leylon and Ida Sullivan. Raymond is survived by several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents; three sisters, Evelyn O'Hagan, Hazel St. Peter and Lillan Roach; two brothers, Miles and Norval Sullivan. Frederick Edwin (Ted) Leadston, of Allumette Island, QC.Loving father of Scott Leadston (Tracey), Mattawa, Paul Leadston (Christine), Ottawa and Jeffrey Leadston (Sheri), St. Andrews, ON. Grandfather (Umpy) to Ryan and Shawn, (Papa) to Erin and Nicolas, and Connor and Madeline.Dear brother of Wayne Leadston, Guelph, Gary Leadston (Anna), Rideau Ferry, Elaine Townsend, Kitchener, Sandra Leadston, (Guelph) and Donna Leadston (Trevor), Guelph. Brother-in-law of Arthur and Yolande Gallagher of Pembroke. Predeceased by his loving wife, Judith Anne Leadston (nee Gallagher). Son of the late Frederick and Edna (nee Stuckey) Leadston, (Guelph). For 32 years, Fred was a musician (Trombone) with the Canadian Armed Forces, with postings in Petawawa, (Canadian Guards Regimental Band), Montreal, (RCA Band), Ottawa, (Central Band) and Kingston (Vimy Band). He also proudly served in Korea with the Canadian Guards. His musical career did not end with retirement, as he directed the Pittsburg Township concert Band. He formed the Music Vets concert Band in Kingston which performed many community concerts in Kingston and Northern New York State. Fred was also the Director of Music with the Petawawa Legion Band, Ottawa Fire Department band and most recently was an active member of the New Orleans Express Jazz ensemble based in Pembroke.Among Fred's many musical accomplishments he performed in the Ottawa Jazz Festival, and revived and arranged the musical score for the long lost Sir John A. Macdonald Waltz. Fred was also a gifted composer having written “Be Canadian“, a patriotic song which was played during many special occasions and national holidays. Fred's life was filled with music, friendships and love. He will be deeply missed by present and past bandmates, friends who shared his joy for the cottage life on “The Island“ and his family who will always remember his moonlight serenades across the bay. At Fred's request, there will be no visitation, cremation has taken place. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral celebration in the presence of his ashes on Saturday February 9 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Columbkille's Cathedral, Pembroke. GORDON, Neil W. April 3, 1925 - January 29, 2008 Neil W. Gordon passed away peacefully at the Rockyview Hospital, Calgary, Alberta. Born in Calgary, Alberta, he later settled in Bragg Creek and finally Redwood Meadows. Neil served in the Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 15, the Stockmen's Memorial Foundation, the Canadian Rodeo Historical Society, and was a long-time volunteer with the Calgary Stampede. Well known for his quick wit and sense of humor, he will be sadly missed by his family and many friends. Neil is survived by his wife Kerstin, sons Loch and Greg (Cheryl), daughters Jane (Bill) Reilly and Lisa (Rob) Gordon, grandsons Cody and Colton, Danny and Dylan. He was predeceased by his oldest son Terry in 2005. Thank you to the staff of the Rockyview Hospital Unit 47 for their help and support.
