SOLTES, Annie (nee Hlusko). 1920-2008. On January 31, 2008, aged eighty-seven years, Annie Hlusko, wife of late John Soltes. She is survived by her son Ed (Patty) and daughter Rosemary, her grandchildren Monica, Andrea, Rosanne, Susanne, Derek, Fiona, Brady and Aimee, her eight great-grandchildren, her sisters Mary, Helen and Margaret, her brothers Martin, Ed and Emil. The family will receive condolences on Friday, February 8, as of 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Hungary church (90 Guizot O., Montreal). Funeral mass to follow at 12 noon, thence to Notre Dame des Neiges Cemetery. Many thanks to doctors, nurses and staff at the Charles-Lemoyne Hospital for their excellent care and compassion. MAHONEY, Timothy It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden death of Timothy Mahoney at home Wednesday January 30, 2008. Loving husband, partner and best friend of Suzanne Mahoney, nee Blain, cherished son of Viola Mahoney, nee Murphy and devoted and beloved father of Elyssa and Thomas. Tim will also be dearly missed by numerous other family members, friends and business associates. Proud founder and president of Synersys, Tim cherished every opportunity to teach his children everything he knew. McGRATH, Sister Marilyn Sister Marilyn Theresa McGrath (Sister Teresa Marie), a Grey Sister of the Immaculate Conception, Pembroke, Ontario died in Ottawa on the 1st day of February in the 52nd year of her Religious Life. Left to mourn are the members of her religious community, her mother, Elizabeth Theresa, sisters Beverley (Jack) Peterkin, Carole (Dan) McGuire, Donna (John) Pilling and Coreen (Brian) Hawley, dear friend, coworker and travelling companion for many years , Sister Maureen McKeown g.s.i.c., nieces, nephews and many friends. Predeceased by her father, Kenneth McGrath. Sister Marilyn was born in Ottawa on September 22nd, 1938. She entered the Community, on September 8th, 1956, pronouncing final vows on August 9th, 1961. A teacher by profession, she served in Deep River, Eganville, Ottawa, Port Credit, Pembroke, Victoria Harbour, Waubashene and Whitby. Following thirty-five years as an educator, Sister Marilyn joined the Sandy Hill Health Community Centre, Ottawa, as a volunteer. In 1996 she founded the "Good Day Workshop Programs Inc." at Bronson Centre. Friends may pay their respects at the Kelly Funeral Home, 585 Somerset St. W. PAYNE, Cora May (nee Chaisson) We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our dear mother, Cora, at the age of 92, on Friday, February 1st, 2008 at the Queensway Carleton Hospital following a struggle which she fought with quiet courage and dignity. Cora was born on October 4th, 1915 in Port-Aux-Basques, Newfoundland to Wilson and Jane Chaisson. Beloved wife of the late Francis Knowles Payne who predeceased her in 1995 and with whom she is reunited at last. Cherished mother of Margaret (Gordon W. Smith) of Chesterville, Ontario, Bob (Marilyn Hartwig) of Surrey, British Columbia, Marilyn (Charlie Cuffari) of Nepean, Ontario and Knowles of Osgoode, Ontario. Grandma will be lovingly remembered by Jeffrey and Neil Smith, Andrew and Erin Payne, Maura Cuffari and Courtney Payne. Predeceased by her brothers Norman, Harold, George, Freeman and Nathan and by her sister Doris Hayden. FOOTE, Margaret In loving memory of Margaret Foote - who died tragically in Burlington, Ontario, January 10, 2008, at age 79. Sadly missed by daughter Elaine Forbes (Robert) of Oakville, George Foote (Christine) of Edmonton and grandchildren Ashley Foote, Burlington; Michael Foote, Edmonton; Bob Forbes and Sarah Forbes, Oakville and brother Max Keeping, Ottawa. We know she is in Heaven, to prepare a place for us. Margaret was a longtime resident of Halifax and Truro, Nova Scotia, who moved to Burlington several years ago to be closer to her family. She was an active member of Wellington Square United Church, in Burlington. Gone from my sight I am standing upon the seashore. A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength. I stand and watch her until at length she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other. Then someone at my side says: "There, she is gone!" "Gone where?" Gone from my sight, that is all. She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side and she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port. Her diminished size is in me, not in her. And just at the moment when someone at my side says: "There, she is gone!" GENNIS, Emerson H. 81, of Hunt’s Point, passed away peacefully Friday, February 1, 2008, in Queens General Hospital, Liverpool. Emerson was born in Vancouver, B.C., in 1926, the only child of the late Ernest and Emma “Gem’’ (Burns) Gennis. Emerson graduated from the University of British Columbia in 1948. Most of his business career was in the fishing industry on the Pacific and Atlantic coasts in administrative and managerial positions. Emerson is survived by Margaret (Rice), his loving wife of 55 years, sons Eric and Arthur; six grandsons, a granddaughter and a great-granddaughter, all of Charlottetown, P.E.I. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, February 5, 2008, at 2 p.m., at Chandlers’ Funeral Chapel, Liverpool. CRILLEY, GLADYS NEE NASON - Peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Friday, Feb. 1st, 2008. Widow of Raymond Crilley, daughter of the late Pennel and Hattie Nason. Born in Fredericton Junction, 1921, lived in Saint John West most of her life. Survived by brother, Raymond Nason; four sons, Paul, wife Brenda, Brian, Peter wife Lorene, Bruce, wife Roberta; 13 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren. Glady will always be remembered as a caring mother and grandmother who always enjoyed the company of her family and was keenly aware of what was happening in everybody's lives. She will be greatly missed. At Gladys request, there will be no viewing or funeral service. A private graveside service will be held in the spring. ALEXANDER, GRENFELL DOUGLAS - The death of Gren Alexander, son of Ethel (Henderson) and the late Harvey Alexander, occurred suddenly at his home in Gig Harbour, Washington State, USA on January 30, 2008. He died of an apparent heart attack, though he had been undergoing cancer treatments for the past few months. Gren was born in Saint John, NB on August 20, 1936 and raised in Red Head. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Judy, his two sons, Scott (Stephanie) of Fairport, New York, and Steven (April) of Grant's Pass, Oregon, and his many grandchildren. He will also be missed by his mother, Ethel of Saint John East, his brother, Courtney (Sandra) of Toronto, and his sisters, Diane (Ray) Tonge of Quispamsis, Ann (Ken) Golding of Hampton, and Pat (Larry) McPhee of Quispamsis and many nieces and nephews. O'BRIEN, LORRAINE PATRICIA - The death of Lorraine Patricia O'Brien occurred on February 1, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John she was the daughter of the late Douglas Allen and Marie Hazel (Beckwith) Tidd. She was a waitress having worked with Rex's Pizza and for RCL Branch #14 with special events. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, an affiliate member of the RCL Branch # 14 and loved dancing, shuffle board, camping and baking. Surviving are her sons, Joseph P. of Saint John, Douglas M. of Ontario, Sean W. of Calgary; brothers, Gary Callaghan of Letete, NB, Charles Foote Jr. of Ontario; sisters, Sharon Tarr of Ponoka, AL, Kathy Kilback of Weyburn, SK, Gail Shepherd of Ontario; grandchildren, Jeremy, Jennifer, Clair, Stanton and several cousins, nieces and nephews. LEBLANC, JULIA - Julia LeBlanc widow of the late Eugene LeBlanc passed away peacefully on January 31, 2008, surrounded by her loving family at the St. John - St. Stephen Nursing Home. Born 1914 in Beresford to the late Jean and Lorette Frenette. Julia and Eugene were married for 48 years they raised their family in Saint John spending summers in Beresford. Devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother she devoted her life to her family. A member of Stella Maris Catholic Church Julia enjoyed quilting, knitting and playing cards. She is survived by sons, Edwin LeBlanc (Rosemarie) of St. Andrews, Laurie LeBlanc (Jacinthe) of Saint John, Wayne LeBlanc (Judy) of Quispamsis; daughters, Anne Marie Terris (Jerome) of Windsor, ON, Patricia Bradley (Fred) of Saint John, Donna Davey (Michael) of Darlings Island, Theresa Parks (Terry) of Rothesay; fourteen grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews. Julia was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Besides her parents and husband, Eugene she was predeceased by brothers, Francois Frenette, Antoine Frenette, Augustin Frenette, Gerard Frenette; sisters Marianne Morrison, Del Boudreau and Jenny Green. GLENN, THELMA G. - CARY, NC: Thelma Gertrude Goldsworthy Glenn, 91, passed away on Wednesday evening, January 30, 2008 at Mayview Convalescent Center. Born on July 23, 1916 in St. John, New Brunswick in Canada; she was one of 15 children of the late Robert Stephen Goldsworthy and Elsie Henrietta Perkins Goldsworthy. During WWII, Thelma was a stenographer in the Royal Canadian Air Force, serving in the recruitment office. She received her US Citizenship on November 30, 1966. Thelma married William A. Glenn in 1943; he preceded her in death in 1995. Mrs. Glenn was a kindergarten teacher for over 24 years, retiring in 1974. She taught in a private kindergarten in Sackville, New Brunswick; Blacksburg Presbyterian Church Kindergarten, the Raleigh Preschool and opened the Greenwood Forest Baptist Church Kindergarten in Cary. Thelma was also active in the Girl Guides in Canada and the Girl Scouts in Cary. She volunteered at the Dorcus Shop and was affectionately known as the "Doll Lady". She is survived by her two children, Thomas Alexander Glenn II and wife, Barbara, of High Point, NC and Donna Elizabeth Glenn, of Raleigh; by her four grandchildren, Kimberly and Shaun Church, Tana and Brian Poole, Thomas A. Glenn III, and Sarah Patten; by her four great-grandchildren, Kenan and Sarah Poole and Katherine and Caroline Church; and by her sister, Lillian L. Brown, of Tampa, FL. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late William A. Glenn, in 1995. Family will receive friends on Monday evening from 7-9 PM at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home (200 SE Maynard Road in Cary). GIBBONS, VIOLA MAY - The death of Viola May Gibbons of Hampton, beloved wife of 69 years to George W. Gibbons occurred February 1st, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. She was born in Saint John, daughter of the late William and Gertrude (Kirkpatrick) Cook. Viola was born and lived in Saint John for 53 years and moved to Hampton in 1973 where she enjoyed socializing, church suppers and playing cards with her friends. Caring for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren was the joy of her life. Surviving besides her husband, George; are two daughters, Valerie Clark, (Ron), Hampton, Paula Kredl (Don), Hampton; one son, Charles "Chuck" Gibbons (Sandra), Saint John; two sisters, Joan Logan (Greg), Saint John, Audrey Cosman, Saint John; one brother, Edward "Brud" Cook (Marilyn), Saint John; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Hannah Stewart Hannah Stewart of Nelson Miramichi passed peacefully, Wednesday January 30th, 2008 at the age of 101. Born in Barnaby River, she was the daughter of the late James and Agnes (Esson) Kane. Hannah was a retired teacher. She was a member of Saint Patrick's Church, Friendly Neighbor's Senior Citizens, the Retired Teachers Association and a lifetime member of the Catholic Women's League. She will be sadly missed by her son Paul (Dorothy) of Toronto and her daughter Barbara Keating of Chatham. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren; twenty two great-grandchildren; sister Mona Phalen; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she is pre- deceased by her husband Doug; daughter Marilyn Whitney; sons-in-law Buddy Whitney and John Keating; sister Kathryn; and brothers, Hubert, John and Andrew. Larry Melanson SIOUX FALLS, SD - Larry Melanson, 58, died January 29, 2008 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. He was born April 28, 1949 in Moncton, New Brunswick. His family immigrated to Waltham, MA in 1960. He was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Murray on Sept. 4, 1988 in Wayland, MA. They moved to Sioux Falls, SD in 2000. He was employed as a carpenter with Kriens Construction until the time of his death. He was the father of Shelly Ann and Shannon (Laura) Melanson; grandfather of Spencer, Tyler, Joshua and Kiersten all of Dieppe, New Brunswick, Canada. He is also survived by his brother, Paul J. Melanson, of West Newton, MA and his sister, Linda Melanson, of Venice, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Marie-Mai and brother, Francis and sister-in-law, Carolann Melanson. A celebration of Larry's life will be 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday at Heritage Funeral Home, Sioux Falls, SD and will resume at 6:30 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. scripture service at St. Michael's Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 2, 2008 with burial at St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery. GAUDET, ARMAND JOSEPH The passing of Armand Gaudet occurred Friday, February 1st, 2008. The husband of Jean (Stennick) (MacDonald) Gaudet, of Oromocto. He was born August 7, 1925 in Trois-Rivieres, PQ; son of the late Joseph and Oselie (Landry) Gaudet. He grew up in Rogersville, NB, and was a Veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was a man with a zest for life; unlike any other, and truly enjoyed every moment of his life. MCGRATH, Sister Marilyn - Sister Marilyn Theresa McGrath (Sister Teresa Marie), a Grey Sister of the Immaculate Conception, Pembroke, Ontario died in Ottawa on the 1st day of February, 2008 in the 52nd year of her Religious Life. Left to mourn are the members of her religious community, her mother, Elizabeth Theresa, sisters Beverley (Jack) Peterkin, Carole (Dan) McGuire, Donna (John) Piling and Coreen (Brian) Hawley, dear friend, coworker and travelling companion for many years, Sister Maureen McKeown g.s.i.c., nieces, nephews and many friends. Predeceased by her father, Kenneth McGrath. Sister Marilyn was born in Ottawa on September 22nd, 1938. She entered the Community, on September 8th, 1956, pronouncing final vows on August 9th, 1961. A teacher by profession, she served in Deep River, Eganville, Ottawa, Port Credit, Pembroke, Victoria Harbour, Waubashene and Whitby. Following thirty- five years as an educator, Sister Marilyn joined the Sandy Hill Health Community Centre, Ottawa, as a volunteer. Elle était aussi la soeur de feu Robert. Elle laisse également sa belle-mère Thérèse Fournier (feu Gaston Ballard), ses beaux-frères et belles-soeurs : Alain (Nicole), Danielle (François), Lucie, Guy (Pierre), ainsi que ses oncles, tantes, neveux, nièces, autre parents et ami(e)s.
