BENNETT, Vincent "Vin" Retired, Pitney Bowes of Canada In hospital on January 31, 2008 in his 85th year. Predeceased many years ago by his beloved wife Shirley Bull. Survived by two nieces Janine and Luella in England. Vince will be sadly missed by Jean and Leigh LeBlanc and Natasha and Nikolas as well as the rest of the LeBlanc family. He will also be missed by his many close Pitney Bowes friends and associates including Lyse Arney, Hassa Mirchandani, Percy McCrimmon, and Gerry Ramsay. Many thanks for the kindness shown to Vince by the residents and managers of Crystal View Lodge. MAHONEY, Timothy It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden death of Timothy Mahoney at home Wednesday January 30, 2008. Loving husband, partner and best friend of Suzanne Mahoney, nee Blain, cherished son of Viola Mahoney, nee Murphy and devoted and beloved father of Elyssa and Thomas. Tim will also be dearly missed by numerous other family members, friends and business associates. Proud founder and president of Synersys, Tim cherished every opportunity to teach his children everything he knew. VESPRY, H. Arthur 1931 - 2008 Arthur Vespry passed away January 24th, at Idlewyld Manor in Hamilton. He graduated from the University of Ottawa. He worked among others for Agriculture Canada, AECL, IDRC, and the United Nations. He retired in Bangkok in 1993, and returned to Hamilton in 1996. On Saturday February 2nd, 2:00 PM, friends and family will come together for a celebration of his life, at St Paul's Anglican Church, Westdale, Hamilton, in a combined Anglican/Buddhist service. GIBBONS, VIOLA MAY - The death of Viola May Gibbons of Hampton, beloved wife of 69 years to George W. Gibbons occurred February 1st, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. She was born in Saint John, daughter of the late William and Gertrude (Kirkpatrick) Cook. Viola was born and lived in Saint John for 53 years and moved to Hampton in 1973 where she enjoyed socializing, church suppers and playing cards with her friends. Caring for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren was the joy of her life. Surviving besides her husband, George; are two daughters, Valerie Clark, (Ron), Hampton, Paula Kredl (Don), Hampton; one son, Charles "Chuck" Gibbons (Sandra), Saint John; two sisters, Joan Logan (Greg), Saint John, Audrey Cosman, Saint John; one brother, Edward "Brud" Cook (Marilyn), Saint John; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, Doug, Malcolm and Kingsley Cook; and sisters, Pearl McLaughlin and Eileen Hamm. Hannah Stewart Hannah Stewart of Nelson Miramichi passed peacefully, Wednesday January 30th, 2008 at the age of 101. Born in Barnaby River, she was the daughter of the late James and Agnes (Esson) Kane. Hannah was a retired teacher. She was a member of Saint Patrick's Church, Friendly Neighbor's Senior Citizens, the Retired Teachers Association and a lifetime member of the Catholic Women's League. She will be sadly missed by her son Paul (Dorothy) of Toronto and her daughter Barbara Keating of Chatham. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren; twenty two great-grandchildren; sister Mona Phalen; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she is pre- deceased by her husband Doug; daughter Marilyn Whitney; sons-in-law Buddy Whitney and John Keating; sister Kathryn; and brothers, Hubert, John and Andrew. Visitation will be held at Maher's Funeral Home Miramichi on Sunday Feb. 3rd from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Susan Mary Shea 1951 - 2008 SACKVILLE, NB - Susan M. Shea, 56, of Sackville and formerly of Highland View Rd. GENNIS, Emerson H. 81, of Hunt’s Point, passed away peacefully Friday, February 1, 2008, in Queens General Hospital, Liverpool. Emerson was born in Vancouver, B.C., in 1926, the only child of the late Ernest and Emma “Gem’’ (Burns) Gennis. Emerson graduated from the University of British Columbia in 1948. Most of his business career was in the fishing industry on the Pacific and Atlantic coasts in administrative and managerial positions. Emerson is survived by Margaret (Rice), his loving wife of 55 years, sons Eric and Arthur; six grandsons, a granddaughter and a great-granddaughter, all of Charlottetown, P.E.I. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, February 5, 2008, at 2 p.m., at Chandlers’ Funeral Chapel, Liverpool. John Woodley P. Eng. John Woodley passed away peacefully at Providence Healthcare on Tuesday January 29th after a long and valiant struggle with Multiple Systems Atrophy. 6'4" of brain and brawn, of kindness and common sense, John was a towering presence in the lives of his family and friends. From humble beginnings on a farm in Northumberland County, he graduated from Engineering at Queens University in 1970 and became a Canadian Patent Agent in 1973. In the years that followed, John rose to international prominence as an expert in the patenting of inventions in fields of chemical engineering, biotechnology and health care - inventions which memorably included the Cystic Fibrosis gene, the early on-set Alzheimer's gene, the Muscular Dystrophy gene, and the cloning process which created "Dolly." He co-authored "Hughes and Woodley on Patents" and the World Intellectual Property Organization's "Guide on the Licensing of Biotechnology," and served as the President of the Licensing Executives Society USA/Canada in 2000/2001. Uncounted hours of John's time were spent in the mentoring of young patent agents and licensing professionals around the world. Equally at home in the barn and the boardroom, John never met a person or a tractor he did not like. He knew a lot about everything. He could reduce the most complex technology to the elementary. He could build a house and plough a field. If it was mechanical, he could fix it. He could explain and correct your faulty tennis stroke or ski technique at a glance. He could dance to Strokin' It. He had an inexhaustible supply of energy, goodwill, patience and power tools. And no end of inappropriate jokes, in which sheep and bears always figured prominently. He was irrepressible and irresistible. John is survived by his adoring wife, Rita, who brought joy to his life and whose devotion and strength sustained him in his long and difficult illness, his daughter, Anne, son JJ. and his wife Melanie, granddaughters, Sierra and Janine, the apples of his eye. Also his step-son Ben and his wife Kim, his sister Donna, and her husband Norm, his niece, Sheri and her husband Andre and his great-nieces Brianna, Emma, and Renee. Also other family, Paulette, Jim, Ronald, Debbie, Pierre, Mercedes, Kim, Doris, John-James, Drewe Bob and Jeannine. And, of course, his admiring partners at Sim & McBurney and an international host of friends and colleagues who will miss his commitment, his wise counsel and that booming laugh. John was lovingly cared for by Catherine Armoo, Lexie Mason Harty and the wonderful nurses and staff at Providence. A memorial service for John will be held at Jubilee United Church, 40 Underhill Drive, Toronto on Monday, February 11, 2008 at 1:00 pm followed by a Celebration of Life at the Donalda Club, 12 Bushbury Drive, Toronto. COPELAND, Kenneth Geoffrey Ivor January 7, 1943 - February 1, 2008 Ken Copeland, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully in Calgary after a brave fight with cancer, at the age of 65 years. Ken is survived by his beloved wife Carolin; children, Samantha, Greg (Val), Jon and Caitlin; grandchildren, Robyn, Brandon, Sarah-Jane and Isabelle. Ken was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. He immigrated to Canada in 2003, where he established his home in Calgary. Ken was dedicated to his family and was an example and a friend to everyone who had the privilege of meeting and knowing him. Ken had a passion for photography and gardening and had a knowledge of history and African Wildlife that was fascinating to everyone who knew him. Predeceased by husband Gordon (2001), sister Shirley Hartley (1971), parents James (1974) and Lila (Krumm, 1997) and stepfather Clarence Krumm (1994). Mom was born in Rimbey, Alberta on September 4, 1925, moved to Calgary in 1928 and married Dad in 1950. Mom was one of the founders of Renfrew United Church and for many years made hospital and prison visits on behalf of the church, as well as organizing the Sunday school where there were over 200 children attending. She was president of the Home & School associations at Renfrew Elementary, Colonel Macleod Junior High and Crescent Heights High schools simultaneously; delivered Meals on Wheels; and gave generously of her time to many other causes including providing First Aid support through St. John Ambulance as a young woman. Mom also worked outside the home as a bookkeeper, using skills developed with her father. She was a gregarious lady who treasured many wonderful, close friendships throughout her life, some from her elementary school days, and was always happy to receive visitors, including hosting exchange students. After fifty-four years in the family home on 15 Avenue N.E., Mom moved in May 2007 to a seniors apartment by the Brentwood LRT station. Our thanks to those who made Mom welcome during her residence there. Mom is also survived by siblings Jean (Jack) Leslie, Joyce Cox, Rob (Hallie) Logan, Ferrol (Stan) Winning and Laurel (John, deceased) Scott and their families; her brother-in-law Bill (Glennis) Hartley; and aunt Bea Casement and her sons. Service will be held at Calgary Winter Club, Skyline Room (park in upper lot) on Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at 2:30 p.m., followed by a reception to celebrate Mom's life. Thank you to family, friends and others for their support during Mom's final illness. Our gratitude goes to the teams at Foothills Unit 61, Tom Baker Palliative Care, and Agape Hospice for their loving, gentle care of Mom. Special thanks to Dr. David Todd and his staff for their many years of care for Mom. In lieu of flowers, donations to Agape Hospice or Children's Cottage would be very much appreciated. LAURIN, Docteur John C., D.D.S 1932 - 2008 Décédé accidentellement à Gatineau, le mardi 29 janvier 2008, à l'âge de 75 ans. Prédécédé par ses parents Dr Carroll Laurin et Alice Lapointe. GÉLINAS, Marie 1957 - 2008 C'est avec une grande tristesse que la famille et les amis de Marie Gélinas vous annoncent son décès survenu à Montréal le 31 janvier 2008 à la suite d'une longue lutte contre le cancer. Fille de feu Maurice Gélinas, elle laisse dans le deuil sa mère Jacline Tousignant, son frère Bernard (sa fille Kim et sa conjointe Carole Hamelin), sa soeur Renée (son fils Xavier et son conjoint Louis Dubé), sa soeur Catherine (son conjoint Yvan St-Arneault) ainsi que de nombreux proches amis. Marie nous a quittés comme elle a vécu: énergique, courageuse, pleine de projets, artiste multidisciplinaire et si aimante. La famille et les proches vous accueilleront le jeudi 7 février 2008 de 19 à 22 h et le vendredi 8 février de 14 à 18 h au salon: Ses proches tiennent à remercier du fond du coeur tout le personnel des soins palliatifs de l'hôpital Notre-Dame et suggèrent, selon le souhait de Marie, qu'au lieu de fleurs l'on fasse en sa mémoire des dons à la Société canadienne du cancer.
