GIBERSON, EDITH ELIZABETH - Edith Elizabeth Giberson, age 81, of Somerville, NB passed away on Saturday, January 19, 2008 at the Upper River Valley Hospital in Waterville. She was the daughter of the late James and Grace (Neales) Pratt. Edith was predeceased by a daughter, Sheila Giberson; three grandchildren; four sisters; and one brother. Edith is survived by her husband, Jack Giberson of Somerville; children, Nancy (Blair) Shaw of London, ON, Donald (Beatrice) Giberson of Wakefield, NB, Barbara (Harold) Underhill of Wakefield, NB, Aubrey (Elizabeth) Giberson of Ashland, NB, Allen (Marie) Giberson of Wakefield, NB; 12 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren; brother, Charles (Marilyn) Pratt of Newbridge, NB; several nieces and nephews. Resting at the Britton Funeral Home, High Street, Hartland with visiting hours on Monday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. from The Lorne Britton Memorial Chapel in Hartland with Rev. JIGJIGNESHIIKWE, Henry Virginia - At Sarnia General Hospital on Saturday January 19, 2008. Virginia Henry (nee Ritchie) of Sarnia and formerly of Saugeen First Nation in her 68th year. Virginia was a well respected Teacher, Song Writer and Story Teller of the First Nation Culture. Dear mother of Loretta Henry of Kitchener, Jennifer Henry and her partner Patrick Baker, Sonja George, and Candice Henry and her partner Nathan Williams, all of Sarnia. Also survived by her brothers, Paul Ritchie, Philip Ritchie, Gabriel Ritchie, Timothy Ritchie, all of Saugeen First Nation and by her sisters, Rita Jacobs of Sagamok, Diane Ritchie, Sharon Soloman and Glenna Cameron all of Saugeen First Nation. Sadly missed by her 16 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews and by her students of all ages. Predeceased by her parents Wilson and Georgina Ritchie, by her brother, Reginald and by her infant daughter Margaret. A Time of Sharing and Story Telling will be held at the Maawndooshgumig Community Centre, 1972 Virgil Ave., Sarnia, on Monday January 21, 2008 from 1-4pm. Visitation will follow at the James Mason Cultural Centre, French Bay Road, Saugeen First Nation on Tuesday January 22, 2008 from 2-4 and 7- 9pm. ROUSSY Louise (Soeur Saint-Julien-Eymard) ROUSSY Louise (Soeur Saint-Julien-Eymard) Est décédée le 19 janvier 2008, à la maison mère des Soeurs de Notre-Dame du Bon-Conseil de Chicoutimi, à l'âge de 100 ans, 4 mois et 7 jours, Soeur Saint- Louise Roussy (Soeur Julien-Eymard), membre de la Congrégation des Soeurs de Notre-Dame du Bon-Conseil de Chicoutimi. Elle était dans sa 77ième année de sa vie religieuse. La communauté accueillera parents et ami(e)s à la maison mère de la Congrégation située au 700, Racine Est Chicoutimi le lundi 21 janvier 2008 de 14h à 17h et de 19h à 21h30. Le mardi 22 janvier 2008, jour des funérailles, le salon sera ouvert à compter de 9h et les funérailles auront lieu à 10h au même endroit. En 1931, Soeur Louise quitte sa famille résidente à Kénogami pour se consacrer à Dieu dans la vie religieuse. Pendant trente-quatre ans, elle oeuvre dans l'éducation auprès des jeunes surtout ceux de la région, comme professeur ou directrice. En 1967, c'est dans nos maisons locales qu'elle partage ses services soit comme cuisinière, couturière ou autres. En 1981, elle devient responsable au comptoir vestimentaire de Jonquière et ce, jusqu'au moment où elle se retire à la maison mère pour un temps de repos. Là encore, elle sait se rendre utile par différents services jusqu'en 1993. À ce moment, elle doit déposer les armes car sa vue faiblit passablement. Elle continue dans la prière et la souffrance, la mission de la congrégation. Elle est la fille de feu dame Marie Paradis et de feu Gilbert Roussy et la soeur de feu François-Albini (feu Jeanne Brassard), feu Gilbert (feu Yvonne Kingsley), feu Marie-Anne, feu Yvonne (feu Albert Dumas), feu Eugénie (feu Émery Fournier), feu Archange (feu Joseph Tremblay), feu Florian, feu Marie-Laure (feu Antonio Rondeau), feu André (feu Rita Racine), feu Stella (feu Patrick Vaillancourt, feu Philippe Guérin) et Germaine (feu Raymond Vickers). HERRINGTON, FRANCES M. - The death of Mrs. Frances M. Herrington of St. John and St. Stephen Nursing Home, Saint John, NB, formally of McNamara Drive, Lakewood Heights, wife of the late Elmer E. Herrington, passed away on Sunday, January 20, 2008 at St. John and St. Stephen Nursing Home. Born in Quispamsis, NB she was a daughter of the late David A. and Estella F. (Marr) Haworth. She graduated from Rothesay Consolidated School and received the Governor General Medal for High Standing. She then received her N.B. Teachers License from the Provincial Normal School and later attended Mount Allison University. She retired from the teaching staff at Princess Ann School in 1975 and has previously taught at the Winter Street School and Rothesay Elementary School. She was a member of St. Augustine's Anglican Church, Quispamsis, before moving to Lakewood Heights, where she became a member of St. James Anglican Church. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association. Surviving are two sisters, Elise Chamberlain (Donald) of Lakewood Heights, Saint John, and Eloise Harding (Vernon) of Fredericton, NB; as well as several nieces and nephews. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, (506-634-7424) with visiting on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Barbara Jean Hachey Barbara Jean Hachey, age 64, of Amherst passed away on Sunday, January 20, 2008 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Upper Nappan, NS, with her loving family by her side. Born in Amherst, she was a daughter of the late Seymour and Alberta (Polley) Thompson. Barb joined the staff of the Department of Indian and Northern Affairs Canada in 1973 where she held the position of Human Resources Specialist as well as assignments in other programs within the Amherst office. She was active in the community working as a volunteer for the Progressive Conservative Party as well as the Cumberland County Museum. Barb is survived by her sons, Kevin of Brampton, ON and Jonathan of Amherst; one grandson, Kevin James of Halifax; brothers, Douglas (Goldie) Thompson of Amherst, Cecil (Peggy) Thompson of Smith Falls, ON and Garry (Dianne) Thompson of Cole Harbour, NS; sisters, Betty (Allan) Orr of Upper Sackville, NS, Shirley Goodwin of Burlington, ON; and many nieces and nephews. CONROY, Irvine L. It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Irvine L. Conroy at the age of 87 years. Besides his loving wife of sixty-one years Maxine, he is also survived by his children, Beverly Giroux, Marilyn (Bruce) Irving, Heather Conroy, and Karen (Rick) Gertzen, along with nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, sister, Irene Pretty of Trail, B.C. and numerous nieces and nephews. Irvine was born in Edmonton in 1921. He joined the RCAF in 1943 and married Maxine in 1946. Irvine had a distinguished career as a pilot serving in WWII, and retired in 1964. His career included being a flying instructor at the Calgary flying club, Chinook flying service. He then joined the D.O.T. as a flight inspector in 1969 and retired in 1985 to Kootenay Lake, where fishing and golfing became his life, but flying remained his passion. Irv loved to tell stories and walk his dogs, Sammy and Babe. Irv's legacy lives on in his grandchildren. There will be an informal celebration of life at a later date. HOBAL, Jessie (nee Chittley) 1921 - 2008 Jessie passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 15, 2008 at the age of 86. Left to mourn her loss are her sons, John (Kathy) Patterson, Michael and Paul Hobal, daughters Diana Ward, Donna (Mike) Calder and Janice Schmidt along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren and her surviving sister Jeanette. Jessie was predeceased by her parents Harold and Jessie Chittley, husband John Hobal, daughter Jessie, brothers John and Harold, sisters Jean and Donna. Jessie was born in Dunnville, Ont. where she met her beloved husband John after WWII. The family moved to Calgary in 1955 where Jessie's hard work and perfectionism led to a long and distinguished career in the hospitality sector. The many highlights of her career were during her employment at the Palliser Hotel where she was able to serve numerous famous guests and dignitaries including Queen Elizabeth II. KNOLL, Gerald Joseph On January 17, 2008, Gerald "Gerry" Knoll of Edmonton passed away peacefully at the age of 75 years. Survived by the mother of his children, Fay, and her two sons Mark and Calvin Lawton. Gerald will be lovingly remembered by his two daughters, Carolyn (Robert) Yenor and Lise (Greg) Fox as well as his three grandsons Mason Yenor, and Jake and Hudson Fox. He was predeceased by his three brothers Jack, George and Jim and two sisters Francis and Mary-Louise. Gerald was born in Vermillion on November 7, 1932. With his strong work ethic, he rose from rig hand to astute businessman. Gerald was a lifelong entrepreneur and oil patch pioneer since the 1960s. His business dealings led him to the far corners of the globe, and along the way he made many friends and connections. Gerald had a passion for antique trucks, which he collected and restored over the years. A quiet supporter of many charities, he enjoyed reading, hockey, golf, cooking and spending time with his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed. Mendoza Provençal, of Hearst The funeral service for Hearst resident Mendoza Joseph Provençal, 84, of the Foyer des pionniers Nursing Home was held Jan. 4, 2008. He died at the Foyer Dec. 30. He was born March 18, 1923 in St-Louis-de-Gonzaque, Québec into a family of 14, he was commonly known by his nickname ‘Trésor’. He worked at the former Au Revoir Garage (now Expert Garage), Hearst Central Garage, the Olaf Christianson garage in Mattice, the Anaaconda mine in Nakina, and finally as a Levesque Plywood mechanic from 1963 until his retirement. A Hearst Club soleil des aîné-e-s volunteer, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and anything mechanical, Predeceased by a grandson Normand Hébert in 1986, his first wife Rita (née Charbonneau) Provençal in 1997, and many sisters and brothers, he leaves his second wife Marie-Anne (née Dupuis) Provençal of Hearst, daughters Réjeanne (Gaston) Hébert of Hearst and Sylviette (Murray) Brown of Brown Hill, Ont., and sons Donald (Lorrie) of Fort McMurray, Alberta, and Gaëtan (Linda), Conrad (Lise) and Roger (Lise B.) Provençal, all of Hearst. Also surviving are his sisters Denise (Ron) Larabie of Prince George, B.C. and Mignonne Provençal of Timmins, and Murielle Provençal of Kelowna, brothers Marcel ‘Art’ and Victor (Marjorie), all of Prince George, and 15 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Rev. Rémi Lessard directed the service at Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption Cathedral. Commemorative donations may be made to the Foyer home.

Martin Widdifield of Englehart died suddenly on January 10, 2008 in Englehart. Mr. Widdifield was born in Dack Township in 1954. He married Cathy MacRae in Englehart in 2003. Mr. Widdifield, who worked for Ontario Northland, was a family man and a hard worker who loved boating and fishing. He was also a member of the Charlton Legion. Mr. Widdifield is survived by his wife Cathy; brother Rick (Theresa); sister Brenda (Richard) McLean; children Brian (MacRae), Katie (MacRae); and nephews Danny, Trevor, Brent, Mark and Mike. He was predeceased by his mother Kit and father Oakley Widdifield, and niece Tammy Widdifield. The funeral was arranged by McDonald Funeral Home in Englehart with the service conducted January 13 by Reverend Jessica Cottrell at the United Church.Pallbearers were Robin Flewwelling, Ross Martin, Paul Martin, Bernie LaCharity, Gus Porter and Eric Froelick. Anna (Anna-Marie) Fontaine, née le 13 septembre 1943, à Buckland, Bellechasse, était la fille de feu Alphonse Fontaine et de Léda Morin. En plus de son époux, de son fils Pascal et de sa mère, elle laisse dans le deuil ses soeurs Madeleine, Mariette, Cécile, Rosanne et Françoise, ses frères Julien, Dominique, Cyrille, Jacques, Grégoire, Jean-Louis et Georges, ses beaux-frères et belles-soeurs, ainsi que de nombreux neveux et nièces, petits-neveux et petites-nièces, en plus d'innombrables amis/amies, voisins et voisines. Salvatore Pelaia 2008-01-20 With family at his side, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Salvatore Pelaia, on Saturday, January, 19, 2008, in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Born in Cotronei, Italy, Salvatore immigrated to Canada in 1966, with his wife, Nazzarena Pelaia, and children. Wishing to provide his family with all that he could, Salvatore accepted a position with the Northern Wood Preservers Company, and remained employed there until his retirement in 1976. As a father of eight, Salvatore worked very hard. Even in his off time, he was busy cultivating gardens, or building greenhouses to home them. His appreciation for the outdoors led him to enjoy pastimes of fishing, hunting, and camping, the latter of which was always an adventure. Salvatore always enjoyed the company of others. Large family gatherings and storytelling were among his favourite pastimes. His generous and humorous nature will always be remembered. Among the many who are left to cherish the memories are his wife, Nazzarena Pelaia, and children, Assunta Patsiatzis, Joe Pelaia, Rose Caruso, Bruno Pelaia, Cosmo Pelaia, Domiano Pelaia, Antonio Pelaia, and Rocco Pelaia; his grandchildren, Angela, Rina & Christina Patsiatzis, Antonio Caruso, Jamie-Lee, Katie, Danielle, Joseph, Michael, Kaelen, Logan, Salvatore, Vincent, & Lucas Pelaia. In addition, numerous sisters and brothers-in-law in Canada, Italy and France. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, January 22nd leaving the Harbourview Funeral Centre at 9:00 a.m. to St. Anthony‘s R. C. Church for Funeral Mass to be celebrated by Rev.
