GRIFFIN, Lionel Raymond (retired Canadian Armed Forces) - Peacefully surrounded by his family, on Sunday, December 30, 2007, at Peterborough Regional Health Centre, Hospital Drive Site in his 78th year. Beloved husband of Elva (nee Lethangue) for 54 years. Loving father of Debra Sullivan (Barry) of B.C. and their children Melany Fulgham (Joe) and Alex Hamill; Bruce of Peterborough and his children Jason and the late Randy (2005); Susan Bowen of Fenelon Falls and her children Katie and Mathew; and Paul of Nova Scotia and his children Sarah and Stephanie. Lionel had one great- granddaughter Jennifer Griffin. He was predeceased by his parents Raymond and Hazel and his sister Blanche Kerr and his brothers Grant and Norman. Lionel worked with Bell Telephone in Sherbrooke, Quebec. In 1948 he joined the Royal Canadian Dragoons until hearing problems forced him to transfer to the 8th Hussars with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer he then retired in 1973; he then worked for the Trent Severn Waterways for 16 years and Brinks for 20 years - part time. His hobby was repairing old clocks especially for the handicapped and elderly with no remuneration required. He always gave a helping hand to many. Deeply loved daughter of Beatrice Gardell. Loving mother of Shelley-Ann (Doug Haynes), Julie-Ann (Brian Pol) and Jonathon (Sandra). WILSON, Edith Eileen (nee Graves) - Peacefully, at the John Noble Home, on December 30, 2007, in her 87th year. Daughter of the late Ensley and Ethel Graves, Edith was born and raised in Scotland, Ontario before settling in Brantford with her husband, William A. Wilson, who predeceased her in 1953. She was also predeceased by her brother Lorne H. Graves (2007). Edith leaves her daughters Linda (Thomas) Mokrzycki of Mississauga and Gloria (Douglas) Birdsell of Hamilton. She was a dear grandmother to Julie (Robert) Mills and Jeffrey Mokrzycki and proud great grandmother of Hayley Mills. Because of health problems related to MS, Edith was a longtime resident of the John Noble Home, where she was lovingly cared for by the caregivers on Grand Terrace Wing. Alex's hobbies included writing poetry, painting and reading; in younger years he enjoyed bowling and playing dards. he was devoted to his loving family. BARNABY, Helen Tina (nee Boschman) February 28, 1942 - December 31, 2007 After a courageous battle with breast cancer, Helen Barnaby went joyously to be with her Lord and Savior at the age of 65 years. Helen is loved and remembered by her husband Lyn "Barney" and her daughter Sandra (Tyrone Cerpa) and son Dana; her two beautiful grandchildren Elias and Olivia Cerpa; and her siblings Dave (Lena) Boschman, Peter (Betty) Boschman, Anne (Cornie) Pauls, Mary (Allan) Megli, Frieda (John) Dueck, John (Frieda) Boschman, Henry (Grace) Boschman as well as many nieces and nephews, three brothers-in-law, Wesley (Denise) Ross and Morley (Maggie) Barnaby. Helen grew up in Coaldale, Alberta and completed her schooling at The Alberta Mennonite High School. Helen met Barney while both were in high school and they married in 1964. Helen went to work for AGT in Lethbridge and was involved in instructing businesses in Direct Distance Dialing. Barney and Helen moved to Calgary in 1967. Helen became a house parent for The Salvation Army Children's Village where she shared her love and Christian faith with many young lives. Helen resumed her career with AGT in 1973 in the Mobile Communications department until 1982. Helen took time away from her successful career to spend time with her family. She spent many hours volunteering for the Central Memorial Band Parents' Association, curling and cultivating her many friendships. Helen went back to work as a Fine Option Counselor for the Salvation Army and then for Alberta Justice. Helen retired as the Fine Option Coordinator in Calgary for Alberta Justice in 2007. She enjoyed her work very much. Helen loved to sing and sang many solos, and was in various musical groups and choirs. One of her greatest joys was trailering with her family, attending family reunions and spending every summer in Penticton. A celebration of Helen's life will be held at First Alliance Church (12345 - 40 Street S.E.) on Monday, January 14, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Brian Delamont officiating. McLeod (December 27, 1993) and is survived by her daughters Jay Sheila (Dave White) and Holly, grandchildren Christopher and Matthew White, Michelle and Kirstyn Seanor (Gordon), brother William Gray, nieces, nephews and sisters-in-law in Canada and U.S. Ellen (Nel) was born in Brantford, Ontario, the youngest of 6 children of Alexander and Ellen Gray (Tom, Archie, Alex, Dave and Bill). She graduated from BCI, was an avid basketball player, and worked as head cashier at Loblaws. Ellen and Ron were married following WWII and move to London, Ontario. They owned and operated United Discount Stores in London, St. Thomas, Tillsonburg, Windsor, Kitchener and Kincardine. In more recent years, Ellen devoted her time to her daughter's family and followed, with enthusiasm, her grandson's school and sports activities in Komoka, Delaware and Mt. Brydges. GSCHWENDTNER, Eva Johanna September 17, 1922 - December 29, 2007 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Eva Johanna Gschwendtner on December 29, 2007, peacefully at the Rockyview General Hospital at the age of 85. Eva was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister. Born in Scott, Saskatchewan to Wendilen and Mary Adams, the eldest of sixteen children, Eva lived her early years there and in Wilkie, Saskatchewan. During World War II she lived and worked briefly in Woodstock, Ontario. Upon her return, she moved to Banff, where she met her future husband Donald James Gschwendtner. Eva and Don married on June 7, 1948 and resided for a time in Edmonton before moving and settling in Calgary. Eva was predeceased by her beloved husband on July 12, 1971. Over the years, Eva worked for Eaton's, Canada Safeway and the Alberta Children's Hospital. Mum was completely devoted to and focused on family, and enjoyed nothing more than hosting family get-togethers and celebrating occasions and milestones. She was an excellent cook and homemaker, a wonderful listener, and knew how to make people feel welcome and special. Outside of family, her biggest passion was helping others and volunteer work which she performed in many ways, most notably for Holy Name Catholic Church, the Catholic Women's League and the Sarcee Auxiliary Hospital and Nursing Home (now Carewest Sarcee). In both her work and volunteer activities she gave one-hundred percent. We will forever miss Mum's selflessness and warmth, her sweet smile, and her unassuming and quiet manner, but we have many wonderful memories of her to cherish to ease the loss of her gentle wisdom, empathy and constant support and caring. She is survived by her son Allan Gschwendtner and his wife Jade, and her daughter Joan Moffat and her husband Ian, and by her grandchildren Christopher and Matthew Gschwendtner. She is also survived by ten brothers and sisters and their spouses: Mary Bremner, Kay Eremko, Helen (Stan) Gryba, Theresa Fehrenbach, Bertha (Howard) Swanson, Delores Price, Diane (Cal) Blehm, John (Betty) Adams, Andrew (Elsie) Adams, Edward Adams; and sisters-in-law, Anne Adams, Delia Adams, Sandra Adams; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and friends (most recently friends she made at Horizon Village MacEwan). OBITUARY KATHLEEN MARY (MACAULAY) KILLAM "KAY" Passed away peacefully on December 27, 2007 at the age of eighty-eight. Born in Montreal, daughter of James Robert Macaulay and May Elizabeth (Paul) Macaulay, and sister of Christine (deceased at birth), Ian (deceased 2003), and James (Edmonton). After attending schools in Montreal, graduated from McGill University in 1941 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Worked for the Bell Telephone Company and McGill University, before marrying Robert B. Killam (deceased September 2007), and moving to Yarmouth in 1950. For over 50 years, a devoted and active member of the IODE. Active lifetime member of the United Church of Canada (in particular the UCW) and the Yarmouth County Historical Society, and a volunteer for many years in the Women's Auxiliary of the Yarmouth Hospital. Other passions included the Kritosophian Reading Club, golf, her "girls" bridge club and week-end barbeques with family and friends at Lake Annis. She was the beloved mother to Susan (Michael Scully), Shirley (David Betts), and Sally (Tim McCullagh); a dear grandmother to her two cherished grandchildren, Stephen and Jennifer; and a loving daughter, sister and aunt. There will be no visitation by request. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 3 at 3 p.m. in Beacon United Church in Yarmouth, with Rev. Leslie Robinson and Rev. Ray Corbett officiating. MCLAUGHLIN, ROBERT STANLEY - The death of Robert Stanley McLaughlin, loving husband of Marie (Foster) McLaughlin of East Saint John occurred on Friday, December 28, 2007 at the Saint John Regional Hospital, after a courageous fight following a lengthy illness. Born 1933 in Saint John he was the son of the late William and Bertha (Oram) McLaughlin. Robert worked for Battery and Electric and in the automotive industry for many years; he enjoyed camping at TNT, playing softball, bowling and watching his grandchildren play hockey. He will be sadly missed by his loving family. Besides his wife, Marie, he is survived by his daughters, Brenda Thibault (Dale) of Saint John and Kimberley Buck (Gary) of Darlings Island; four grandchildren, Aaron and Kristina Thibault and Craig and Courtney Buck; brothers, William McLaughlin of Quispamsis and James McLaughlin (Mary) of Saint John; brother-in-law, Rudi Foster (Eleanor) of Dartmouth, NS; uncle, Stanley Oram (Lettie); several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brother, Malcolm McLaughlin and sister-in-law, May McLaughlin.
