RICHARDSON LEE, Sheila Anne 1944 - 2007 Sheila Anne Richardson Lee passed away on Wednesday, October 31, 2007 after battling a long-term illness. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana on January 11, 1944, Sheila graduated cum laude in 1966 from Newcomb College and received her Master of Fine Arts degree from the Tulane University Graduate School in 1976. An American National Merit Scholarship recipient, inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa National Honor Society and winner of numerous Theatre Design competitions, Sheila made her debut in New Orleans Society in 1963/1964 and served as Queen of the Krewe of Athenians during that Carnival season. A child of New Orleans, Sheila was a woman of many talents, a scholar, an artist and an accomplished horsewoman. Before joining the faculty at the University of Calgary in 1980, Sheila held teaching positions at Bucknell University (Lewisburg, PA) and the University of Virginia (Charlottesville, VA). An Associate Professor in the Department of Drama, in addition to her classroom duties, she contributed elegant and imaginative scenes and costume designs for many of the department's annual seasons of classical and contemporary plays. She retired from the University in 2002. Sheila was predeceased by her mother, Marion Shirer Richardson and her father, Frank B. Richardson Jr. She is survived by her daughter Elizabeth (Stephen Komp) who currently resides in Fredonia, New York. In lieu of floral tributes, memorial donations can be given to the rebuilding of the Tulane University fund in New Orleans at www.tulane.edu/~giving/ . As well, an undergraduate scholarship in the performing arts is currently being developed in Sheila's name. KAHLER, Robert 1929 - 2007 Robert Kahler passed away suddenly on October 31 at the age of 78 years. Robert is survived by his brother Paul, and nephew and niece, Paul and Eileen. BOWE, ROBERT E - The death of Robert E. Bowe, husband of the late Pearl (Meighan) Bowe occurred November 1st, 2007 at Marysview Special Care Home, Hampton, formerly of Red Head Road, Saint John. Robert was born in Nova Scotia and was the son of the late Eugene and Jennie (William) Bowe. He was a veteran of World War II. Robert lived in Nova Scotia before moving to Saint John. He was a great fisherman and hunter who also loved gardening. He is survived by one sister, Charlotte Isaacs and one step-daughter, Dianne Tytler, one son-in-law, Ian Tytler, Hampton, five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews whom were very special to him. He was predeceased by sister Lillian (Lil) Themla, and four brothers, George, Vincent, Eugene, and Frank. DEYELL, D. Keith Lt. Col. (retired) Douglas Keith Deyell of Ottawa passed away after a brief illness on Tuesday October 30, 2007, at the Queensway-Carleton Hospital. He was eighty-nine. He is survived by his wife, Susanne Deyell (nee Roedl), by four children, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, mostly settled in the Ottawa area. He was predeceased by his second wife Patricia Deyell nee Scott of Alameda. Keith was born in Alameda, Saskatchewan, on December 13, 1917, the son of Harold Houston Deyell and Margaret Graham Deyell (both deceased). He had four siblings, and is survived by his sister Helen Hames of Oxbow, his sister Eileen Asmundson of Winnipeg, and his brother Glenn Deyell also of Winnipeg. After a semester at the University of Saskatchewan, Keith Deyell enlisted in the Royal Air Force in 1939. He served as a navigator in Bomber Command throughout WWII until his transfer to the RCAF at wars end in 1945, with the rank of Squadron Leader. He was wounded in action, and received the Distinguished Flying Medal. He stayed in contact with some of his fellow flying crew members well into his 80s. Promoted to Wing Commander, he served in the RCAF until his retirement in 1966. His last assignment was Officer Commanding Training School at RCAF Base St-Jean (Quebec). Joining the Federal Public Service in the late 1960s, he became a senior official in Labour Canada, retiring a second time in 1983. Keith Deyell was extraordinarily multi-talented. Since his boyhood he had an interest in music, and still played the trumpet, clarinet and saxophone into mid-life. As a young man he devoted much attention to sketching and painting, and became quite accomplished, leaving some striking paintings of wartime life. One of his early passions was photography, and he was a long-time member of the Camera Club of Ottawa. He enjoyed shooting at the Connaught Ranges and was a Dominion Marksman. Since at least the 1960s, he was a dedicated cyclist and long-standing member of the Ottawa Bicycle Club. He cycled to work daily, occasionally cycled to Kingston and back on a weekend, and maintained a regime of about 5,000 km. annually well into his 80s. He did not hang up his spandex until the age of 85. An accomplished raconteur, Keith wrote a number of anecdotal memorials of boyhood life in rural Saskatchewan during the Roaring Twenties and Dirty Thirties. His vivid impressions tell of a happy childhood. In later years, he paid much attention to his grandchildren, helping to pass on some of this happiness. Although not a member of veterans associations, Keith Deyell was a faithful participant at the Westboro Legions Remembrance Day ceremonies. Après cette longue carrière en éducation, soeur Thérèse a offert encore avec entrain et générosité le fruit de sa riche expérience et de sa compétence aux chercheurs de vérité du Centre des Nouvelles Religions à Québec, entre les années 1989 et 1997. Ensuite, soeur Thérèse est revenue à Chicoutimi où à la Maison provinciale, ses talents sont encore mis à profit dans des services communautaires. Outre sa famille religieuse, elle laisse dans le deuil une soeur et un frère : Jacqueline Truchon (feu Guy Tremblay), Raymond (Françoise Larouche), et une belle-soeur Marie-Hélène Dufour (feu Robert). PLUMB, Frank John - WW II Veteran RCAF - RAF At the Picton General Hospital, Picton, Ontario on Monday, October 29, 2007. Frank John Plumb in his 88th year. Beloved husband of the late Hazel Plumb (nee Brumpton). Son of the late Alfred and Annie (nee Ball) Plumb. Dear father to Brian (Joan) of Byng Inlet, Ontario and Philip (Barbara) of Williamsburg, Ontario. Remembered by daughter in law Marie of Toronto. Frank served as a Flight Lieutenant in the RCAF - RAF as navigator in Lancaster bombers. Following the war he joined Goodyear Tire. With North Bay, Ontario as his home he travelled across Northern Ontario with emphases on mining and forestry enterprises. He became co-owner of Heighton Tire in North Bay, continuing the sales of Goodyear across Northern Ontario. Frank continued his career as head of sales for Seiberling (Goodyear) Tire of Canada. His sharp intellect and excellent physical health proved him with the capability to meet all of life's challenges on his own terms. His life was fulfilled with Hazel at his side from their marriage on October 29, 1938 to her passing on August 2, 2004. Arrangements in the care of THE McGLADE FUNERAL HOME, Deseronto, Ontario. Lena Margaret Brydges It is with great sadness that her family announces the passing of their beloved mother, Lena. Surrounded by the love and support from family and friends at the Temiskaming Hospital, Tuesday, October 16 Lena Margaret Brydges (nee Smith) peacefully left us at the age of 78 years. At 5:40 a.m. Lena took her last breath and a tremendous aura of grace surrounded her body and soul. She was born on September 7, 1929 at Cobalt, Ontario to the late Charles and Orpha Smith. Lena was predeceased by her loving husband Clayson James Brydges in August, 2003. Also predeceased by her brothers Alf, Eddy, Doug, Eric, Gordon, sister Eileen St. Jacques and mother-in-law Mrs. Iva Brydges formerly of New Liskeard. Loving mother of David and Dwight Brydges of Edmonton, Janie-Ann Brydges of North Bay and Sue Nielsen of Cobalt. Cherished grandmother of Amanda and Adam Larabie of North Bay, Whitney Nielsen of Espanola and Emily Brydges of Sudbury. Also left to mourn is her brother Donald (Ruth) Smith of Ajax, and sisters-in-law Janet Colbran and husband Carl of Bramalea, Evelyn Brydges of Sudbury and Ev Smith of Ridgetown and Florence Smith of Pembroke. Niece Janette (Mike) Minderlein, Judy Smith, Bryan (Valerie) Smith. The funeral was arranged by Buffam Leveille Funeral home with guests attending from Vancouver, Toronto, Espanola, Burlington, North Bay, and Kapuskasing. Funeral services were led by Helmut Wipprecht and soloists were Anne Denise Mejaki accompanied by Bob St. Cyr and granddaughter Whitney Nielsen. Pallbearers were David and Dwight Brydges, Mike Minderlein, Dennis Nielsen, Dennis St. Jacques and Brian Smith. Honorary pallbearers were Adam Larabie and Guy Legault. Interment was at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery. In memory donations to the CATScan Foundation and the Heart and Stroke Foundation were greatly appreciated. Lena (Lena from Galena) was born in the family home at 7 Helen Street and lived all her life in Cobalt. She attended Cobalt Public School and later Cobalt High School. She worked for a time at the Cobalt train station for the Ontario Northland Railway before marrying Clayson Brydges. In high school she played basketball and hockey. Because she contracted rheumatic fever at the age of 12, Lena’s life was to be defined in a sense by her ill health. Lena was an extraordinarily generous, loving, kind and thoughtful person and saying no to a request for help was not in her makeup. She naturally made her family and friends the beneficiaries of that love. Her warm touch of treating everyone with welcoming homespun charm was legendary. Above all she was simply a good friend to us all. She loved her cats, Babby and Bubbles and many birds, squirrels and chipmunks all found a home in Lena’s backyard. When her health was better she loved to walk, and made walking a part of her daily routine long before it became fashionable to be a walker. True to her homemaker role she loved to pick blueberries and raspberries and make pies. She had an outstanding work ethic and from morning till night she tended to the duties of her home because her philosophy of life meant being a doer. Some climb the corporate ladder of success and build large monuments to their inflated egos; Mom trumped them all with her down to earth legacy of just being a “good person each day.” Lena’s memory will never die, her kindness and decency liveth beyond this final obituary and in spite of all the illnesses that pained her over the years she triumphed over each day’s adversities. Her daily duty was to endure with quiet courage that inspired us all. The tears in our hearts need not dry, for they represent the great joy of spirit Lena’s nourishment gave us. There is one more bright star in the sky tonight and it has the name Lena on it.

QUINN, Rev. John J. Rev. John Joseph Quinn, retired priest of the Diocese of Pembroke, died Friday, November 2nd 2007, at 9:45 a.m., at Pembroke Regional Hospital. Son of the late Thomas Quinn and Mary Helferty, Father Quinn was born in Eganville, Ontario, on January 21st 1934. He studied philosophy and theology at St. Peters Seminary, London Ontario and was ordained to the priesthood on June 1st 1961 in St James the Less Church, Eganville by the late Most Rev. William J Smith, former Bishop of Pembroke. Following his Ordination, Father Quinn served as Assistant at St. Columbkille's, Cathedral Parish, Pembroke, on two occasions, at Our Lady of Fatima Parish, Renfrew until his appointment as Pastor of St Patrick's Parish, Mount St Patrick, Ontario in April of 1970. While at Mount St Patrick's, he was also appointed Diocesan Director of the P.T.A. In February of 1973, he was named Pastor of St. Anthony's Parish, Chalk River, Ontario, where he remained until being appointed Pastor of Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish, Deep River, Ontario, on October 17, 1978. In 1994, he was appointed to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish, Braeside, Ontario, where he remained until retirement on June 3rd 2007. On August 27, 2003, while remaining in Braeside, Fr. Quinn was appointed Vicar General of the Diocese of Pembroke, Member of the College of Consultors and of the Council of Priests. Following his retirement, he resided at 544 Irving St., Pernbroke, Ontario, until being admitted to Pembroke Regional Hospital on November 1st 2007, where he died peacefully on November 2, 2007. Father Quinn is survived by his sister Helen (Arnold) O'Grady of Eganville and his brother Raymond (Helen) of Ottawa as well as nieces Mary Lou, Claire, Colleen, Sheila, Maureen, Theresa, Shannon, Erin, Kelly and his nephew Tom. Father Quinn was also predeceased by his brother Leo (late Marilyn). The body of Father Quinn will lie in state at St James the less Church, Eganville Ontario on Sunday, November 4th 2007 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 9 a.m. until time of Funeral Liturgy at 11 a.m. in the same church presided by Most Reverend Michael Mulhall, Bishop of Pembroke. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery. Father Quinn (better known as Father Jack) was dearly loved by his brother priests and parishioners. "You have let God take you by the hand."
