MEEHAN, ROBERT J. - The death of Robert John Meehan of New Line, NB occurred at the Sussex Health Centre on August 19, 2006 at the age of 93. Born in Donegall, Ireland he was a son of the late Robert and Adelaide (Buchanan) Meehan and the husband of the late Marjorie A.(Cunningham) Meehan who passed away in 1992. Robert was a Veteran of WW II, a Life Member of the Royal Canadian Legion and worked as a mechanic at the Department of Transportation until his retirement in 1978. He is survived by his daughters, Carole Patrick (Ronald) of Point Au Baril, ON, Kathleen Hodgin (Clifford) of New Line, Judy Nickerson (Gerry) of St. Albert, AB and Eileen Elder (Donald) of Riverbank; son, Lloyd Meehan (Carmen) of Jeffries Corner; thirteen grandchildren; four great granddaughters; sister, Isabel Cunningham of Jeffries Corner; brother, Hugh Meehan (Elsie) of Smiths Creek; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Margaret Robertson, Sarah McMackin, Eileen MacDonald, Molly Mallory and Adelaide Sherwood; and brothers, Dan, Moses, James and Andrew Meehan. The family will receive visitors at the Sussex Select Community Funeral Home, 21 Aiton Road Sussex (506-433- 2133) on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9PM. Sussex Branch #20 of the Royal Canadian Legion will hold a Tribute on Monday evening at 6:45PM. DYKENS, MAIDA ALICE - Maida Alice Dykens, of George Street, passed away at her residence on Saturday, August 19, 2006. Born in Charlottetown, PEI, she was the daughter of Mary Edna (Gallant) MacLean and the late Gerald MacLean, and wife of the late Lawrence Dykens. Maida worked at Smitty's Pub for several years and at the SJRH (Housekeeping Department) from 1989-2000. She enjoyed playing cards and loved making Paper Tole Crafts. Survived by one son, Terry Dykens (Wendy) of Halifax; two daughters, Kelly Crowe (Terry) and Shannon Piccott (Chris) all of Saint John; two brothers, Lorne MacLean (Chris) of Ontario and Dook MacLean (Shirley) of PEI; as well as one sister, Zelda Rafuse of PEI; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. BROWN, PRESTON - The death of Preston Brown, of Brown Crescent, Bathurst, occurred Saturday, August 19, 2006 at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, Bathurst, after a lengthy illness. Born in Bathurst (North Tetagouche), NB, on December 13, 1923, he was the son of the late Arthur and Jane (Carter) Brown. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was a long-time member of St. Luke's Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder for many years, and sang in the church choir. He worked as a truck driver for many years, retiring from Atlantic Wholesalers in 1983 due to illness. In partnership with his wife, he delivered Meals-on-wheels for twenty years. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Eva (Caldwell) Brown of Bathurst; twin sons, Lloyd Brown (Kathy) and Lorne Brown, both of Saint John; one daughter, Rebecca Brown (MacTobias) of Saint John; one grandson, Colin; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one sister, Wanda Cummings; three brothers, William, Clifton (twin) and Carr; as well as two sisters and a brother in infancy. The body will rest after 2:00 p.m. Monday at Elhatton's Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst. James H. Lounsbury REXTON, NB - James H. Lounsbury, 78, of School Street, Rexton, NB, passed away at The Moncton City Hospital on August 18, 2006 after a lengthy illness. Born December 20, 1927 in Saint John, NB, James was the son of the late Spencer and the late Lydia Lounsbury. James was a retired manager of Atlantic Speedy Propane and was a member of Rexton Lions' Club, Outdoor Enthusiasts of Moncton, Toast Masters Club and Charlie's Angels round dancing Club, Moncton. James is survived by one daughter, Vivian Kierstead (William), Rexton; two sons, Richard Lounsbury (Wendy), Rexton, NB and David Lounsbury (Dianne), Langly, BC; two sisters-in-law, Doris Lounsbury (Plumweseep, NB) and Ursula (Philip Giberson), Limekiln, NB; six grandchildren, Kyle, Meaghan, Eric, Christina, Abby and Melissa. Joseph (Joe) Tataryn It is with deep sadness and regret the family of Joseph Tataryn announces the passing on Sunday August 20, 2006 of our Father and Grandfather. Joe, the son of Anton and Sophie Tataryn, was born in Poland Sept 29, 1929 emigrating at the age of 10 with his mother to join his father, who had emigrated before them, in Canada. Joe worked at, and retired from, East-West Packers for over 40 years. His greatest passion was training and racing horses until his illness stopped him from entering the gates of Assiniboia Downs Racetrack. He will be missed by his sons, Will (Charlotte), Ron (Cynthia); his only grandchild, Ainslee; his brother-in-law, Randy (Cathy) Yellowaga; mother-in-law, Mary Yellowaga (from Roblin Manitoba); and his two favorite Shih Tzu dogs, (Pups) as he called them, Gizmo and Jo-ee. He was predeceased by his devoted and beloved wife, Anne on December 16, 1997. Joe, over the course of his life, made many friends and will be missed by all who knew him. Richards, Ethel Grace (Foster) - Went home to be with her Lord, surrounded by her family on Friday, August 18, 2006 at Freeport Health Centre of Grand River Hospital at the age of 90. Beloved wife of the late Wesley Richards (2000). Loving mother of Rodney Richards and his wife Kathleen, of New Liskeard, Laura Miller and her husband Reginald of St. Thomas, Lois Bilusack and her husband Royce of North Bay, Gwen Vanderspek and her husband Rob, and Beth Fournier and her husband Bruce all of Waterloo. MCGRATH, HAROLD - Harold McGrath, age 86, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 16, 2006 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton, NB. Harold is lovingly missed and will always be honored and remembered by his sons, Paul and Michael; daughter, Jill; sister, Elsie; grandchildren, Ashley, Krista, Michael, Paulina, Robert and Stephanie; and several nieces and nephews. Born in Port Wade, NS, Harold is predeceased by his beloved wife, Jacqueline (nee Crotty); his parents, William and Accillia; and brother, Ralph. Harold was Chief Steward on the Princess Helene during World War II and later transferred to Canadian Pacific Railway on train services to Boston, Montreal, Woodstock and Edmundston. Upon leaving the railway, Harold was with the Windsor Tavern, where he became Fredericton's first beverage waiter and later moved to the Riverview Arms, where he extended his warmth and hospitality to many friends and customers. Harold continued on to the NB Solicitor General's Department, where he was Deputy Sheriff, Court Services. His working career spanned fifty-four years. Harold's love of music was shared over decades with his family and friends. A well known banjo and fiddle player, Harold played in dance bands throughout the Fredericton region and was one of the banjo players in the very successful Smoky Mokes Minstrel presentations. In later life, Harold enjoyed his fellowship and fiddle playing with the River Valley Fiddlers. Honourary pallbearers include David Brown, Bruce Gray, Wayne Hallihan, Nathan A. Jones, Norman Stewart, and Donald Sutherland. A Memorial Service will be held at the York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, August 22, 2006. JACKSON, Kenneth Gordon, P. Eng. (1947 2006) - Ken died peacefully at home in North Bay on Saturday August 19, 2006. He was much loved and will be terribly missed by his wife Beth, children Shane, Jim, David and his daughter-in-law Liza, his grandchildren Jesse, Susana, and Kendra, brothers Jim and Bob, and a whole crew of relatives. Ken's joie de vivre, his generous fun-loving spirit, his honesty, wisdom, and wit, won him lifelong friends wherever he lived and worked. Ken's career as an engineer in the mining industry took him across Canada and beyond. In Sudbury, Timmins, Yellowknife, Pickerel River, the Gaspé, Labrador City, Elliot Lake, Tunisia, Turkey, Peru, Chile and North Bay, friends will miss his smiling face. Ken was a fine athlete and outdoorsmen, his accomplishments in curling, on & off the ice, will be long remembered. Dad was the most giving father, father-in-law and grandfather anyone could ask for. He was a Second World War veteran and also a very respected shift boss and relieving general foreman during his thirty nine years at Inco. Dad was always grateful to them for the financial stability afforded to him during those years. Last but not least, a very special thank you to caregivers, Brenda, Carol, Michelle and especially Morena at Extendicare Falconbridge. We always knew dad was in capable and caring hands when we were not there. Thank you so much! And to you Dr. Roch for your compassion during Dad's last days. BARRABLE, James Stirling. 1915-2006. Survived by his wife Pauline, daughters Diane and Jocelyn and son-in-law Jack Segal. He also will be lovingly remembered by his sisters Edith (Colin) and Mary. Jim had requested that his body be donated to the Montreal General Hospital for research purposes, therefore there will be no funeral. OBITUARY SARA LUKIC SUBOTIC 1943 - 2006 After a year long battle with cancer, she passed away peacefully and courageously on August 18, 2006 with her family by her side. A proud member of the Circle of Sisters in the Serbian community with many involvements in her church. She was the beloved wife of V. Rev. Zivorad Subotic. Loving mother of Milan and Mihailo Subotic. Cherished sister of Mara, Stanko and Nedo. Predeceased by her parents: Pajo and Jovanka, and four sisters: Petra, Jela, Stana, and Joka. She will be greatly missed by her brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews in Serbian and Republika Srpska/BiH. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Serbian Orthodox Church at 349 Melville Ave. in Westmount on Monday, August 21 from 5 to 9 p.m. and on Tuesday, August 22 from 5 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 24, 2006 at 1 p.m. at the Holy Transfiguration Serbian Monastery at 7470 McNiven Rd., R.R.#3 in Campbellville, Ontario.
