He enjoyed cooking, reading and walking his doggies. HENDRY, Joyce. Joyce Doreen Hendry, of Calgary, died peacefully at the Rockyview General Hospital on May 24, 2006 at the age of seventy-six years. Joyce will be lovingly remembered by her brother John of Pender Is. BC, sister Joan (Grant) Norman of Greenwood, IN. and brother Alex (Barb) Hendry of Halifax NS. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews; Sandy (Angela) Hendry, Brenda (Mike) Lajeunesse, Stuart (Holly) Hendry, Karen Flanigan, Heather (Jeff) Dixson, Lori (Kevin) Destrampe, Tammy Sykes, goddaughter Tracey (Kevin) Donohue, Derek Hendry; several great-nieces and nephews; and numerous friends and acquaintances. Joyce was predeceased by her father John in 1984 and mother Pansy in 1989. The immediate family wishes to thank Dr. T Hulme and his team in the Intensive Care Unit at the Rockyview General Hospital. OBITUARY RICHARD BARBEAU Richard Barbeau passed away peacefully at the Strathmore Hospital in Alberta on Saturday, May 13 2006 at the age of fifty. He graduated from Vanier College in Wildlife Management in 1975 and moved to Alberta in 1976. Richard worked at the Calgary Zoo and the Fish and Wildlife Centre in Brooks before going to the University of Lethbridge to graduate with his Bachelor of Education in 1988. He worked as a teacher for twelve years at the Samuel Crowther Jr. High School in Strathmore and enjoyed challenging his students to achieve their potential. Richard will be remembered for his love of the outdoors, his passion for sharing his knowledge and skills with others, his strong faith and his interest and concern for all people. He was very strong and graceful in coping with the challenges posed by a brain tumor over the last ten years and was an inspiration to us all. Richard will be lovingly remembered by his wife Janet (nee Maxwell), children Kelly and David, his son Billy from his first marriage, parents Norma and Gus van Schoneveld; brothers Paul (Diane), Maurice (Leona); as well as many Other family members and long time friends. BLAIR, Lieutenant Commander Leslie Allison, USN (Ret) Age 51, died on April 11, 2006, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Her spouse, Commander Phillip D. Parks (Ret), her parents, Colonel and Mrs. Arthur H. Blair of Mount Pleasant, VA and her brother, Peter W. Blair of Alexandria, VA, survive her. She had suffered from a congenital disease affecting the lungs and received a lung transplant seven years ago. During her Naval career, she served in Sicily. Virginia, Key West, and Washington, D.C. She lived for several years in Ottawa, Ontario before moving to Ogdensburg, N.Y., her home of more than a decade. FOX, Sister Teresa (Sister Mary Anne) A Grey Sister of the Immaculate Conception, Pembroke, Ontario died in Shalom Residence on the 25th day of May in the 71st year of her Religious Life. Left to mourn her loss are the members of her religious community, her nieces, Ethel Poulin and Lenore Sarrazin, as well as other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Predeceased by her parents, James Fox and Mary Anne Downey, her brothers, Oswald and John, and by her sisters Rose Sarrazin, Helena Fox and Ethel Healy. Sister Teresa was born on November 20th, 1907, in Manotick, Ontario. She entered the Grey Sisters of the Immaculate Conception in 1935 and began her first ministry at Immaculata School, serving as Sacristan, as well as various other convent duties. In 1937 Sister Teresa moved to St. Michael's College in Toronto, where she applied her skills in household management for the next nine years. In 1949, she was assigned duties at St. Patrick's Home in Ottawa, as well as serving as Sacristan at St. Patrick's Church. In later years, she moved to Assumption Convent in Ottawa, working as Sacristan at Assumption Church, as well as cheerfully assisting where needed in the convent. Following this assignment, Sister moved to the Motherhouse in Pembroke, where she lived and served for the next twenty-nine years. Due to failing health in 1998, she transferred to Shalom, Marianhill Residence in Pembroke, Ontario. Resting at the Motherhouse, 700 MacKay Street in Pembroke, Ontario on Friday, May 26th, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Vespers in the Chapel at 7:00 p.m. Liturgy of the Resurrection in St. Columba's Cemetery, Pembroke. HALL, Dr. John Gordon J. Gordon Hall, UB Professor Emeritus Retired University at Buffalo professor recognized for his accomplishments in aeronautical and mechanical engineering, died Saturday, April 8, 2006 at Greenfield Rehabilitation Centre in Lancaster, New York, after an illness of four months. He was 80. Gordon was born October 14, 1925 in Powell River, British Columbia, the son of John and Charlotte Radcliffe Hall. Following his elementary and secondary education at Brooks School, Powell River, he enlisted in the Canadian Navy serving as a telegraphist aboard warships escorting convoys across the North Atlantic. After the war, he attended the University of British Columbia where he graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Physics. In 1951 Gordon received his Master's Degree, and in 1954 his Doctoral Degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Toronto. Gordon was a research associate and assistant professor at the University of Toronto before going to the United States in 1958 as a research engineer, to join the Cornell Aeronautical Laboratory of Cornell University in Buffalo, where his work included studies used by NASA. He became head of department in 1966. In 1969 he joined the University at Buffalo, N.Y. as a full professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. In addition to his research he developed and taught many graduate and undergraduate courses and was chairman of the department's graduate studies program. He spoke at seminars, wrote numerous scientific papers and served on many committees. During his career, Dr. Hall conducted pioneering research on the complex chemistry and aerophysics of high temperature airflow, such as occurs when a spacecraft enters Earth's atmosphere. In 1979 he was presented with the Niagara Frontier Aerospace Pioneer Award. A consultant to industry and government agencies, Dr. Hall was a Member of the Americann Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, The American Society of Mechanical Engineers and The American Physical Society. He retired in 1994. Dr. Hall is survived by his wife of 55 years, Erla (Holmes) Hall of Lancaster, N.Y., U.S.A. (formerly East Aurora, N.Y. and Ottawa, On.); his daughter, Cynthia Lea (F. Albert Zamacona ) Hall of Van Nuys, Ca., U.S.A.; and his son, Christopher John (Tonda MacCharles) Hall of Ottawa, On. and four grandchildren, Graham and Dillon Beckwith of Van Nuys, Ca. and Euan and Li Hall of Ottawa, On. Dr. Hall is also survived by two sisters, Alice (Rodney) Williamson and Edna (Ralph) King, both of Ottawa, On. and many cousins, nieces and nephews in Canada and U.S.A. MYLES, James (Jim, Jimmy, Hey you!) Wesley - age 71, of Stratford passed peacefully at home on Tuesday, May 23, 2006. Born in Verdun, PQ, Jim spent his boyhood in NB near the banks of the Miramachi. He moved to North Bay,Ontario, worked on the railroad, ran a successful barber supply and practiced the fine art of bean counting and financial analysis. In 1958, he married andstarted a family, moving to Stratford in 1970. Like his dad Harold, Jim was a first-class fiddler, entertaining folks far and wide. He enjoyed hockey, crib and good laugh. His mother Beth taught him to find humour and beauty in all things, even at the Chaco Bus Station, where he shipped people andparcels, both hither and yon (more yon, actually, but that's another story.) Jim will be missed by his partner Anne Brecht; sons Stefan (Cathy-Anne), Jeff, Patrick (Linda); step-children Anne Marie Brecht (Kelly Brecht (Tracy); grandchildren Stefanie, Matthew, Andrew, Amelia, Olivia,Tyler, Stephan, Jessica, Bradley, Dylan, Austin, Luke, Gracie-Lynn and Matthew. He graduated from UBC with a Bachelor of Commerce where he played rugby and football for the UBC Thunderbirds. Jim furthered his education at the University of Western Ontario where he completed his MBA. During his career, he worked in numerous positions within the oil industry and federal government. Jim was married to Helen McLean of Trail B.C. He will be remembered for the love of his children and grandchildren, his passion for sports and ability to tell a story. Jim is survived by his children Barbara (Dean) Varro, Dr. Bruce (Cynthia) MacNicol, Joanne MacNicol and Fraser MacNicol; grandchildren, Brandan and Alix Varro, Cheryl, Callum, Blaire and Rhys MacNicol. GODLONTON Grace Evangeline (nee Burton) Grace Evangeline (nee Burton) Godlonton of Golden Hills Lodge, Three Hills passed away on May 25, 2006 at the age of 91 years from a traumatic head injury sustained in a tragic fall on the front stairs of her residence Wednesday, May 24, 2006. Grace was born at Cairn, Alberta on the 14th day of September, 1914 and resided most of her life in Calgary. Her happiest years were spent at her farm with her horses at Linden where she lived from 1977. Grace was an avid horsewoman and seamstress. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and was affectionately referred to as "Grammie". She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Grace was predeceased by her husband Cecil of sixty-five years in August 2001 and her son David in January 1998. She is survived by her loving family, son Ed (Lorna) Godlonton of Leslieville; grandchildren, Clinton (Kim) Godlonton of Red Deer, Lisa (Chad) David of Calgary, Dan (Denise) Godlonton of Chilliwack, Christine Godlonton presently in Queensland, Australia; daughter Carolyn Scott of Swalwell; grandchildren, Taralee (Wade) Gall of Three Hills; five great-grandchildren, Jordan, Sydney, Christina, Tate and Kaylen; sister Alice Forster of Calgary; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial services to celebrate her energetic, spirited life will be held on Thursday, June 1, 2006 at 1:30 p.m. in the Swalwell Community Hall. HALE, Thomas Reid. Peacefully on Friday, May 26, 2006 at Markham-Stouffville Hospital. Beloved husband of the late Norma Lou Dunwoody. Dear father of Joanne(Greg Gogan) Ronald (Kim Jeans) Janet (John Rochon) and Michael (Donna Wiley). Loving grandfather to Melanie, Kaeli, Michael, Patrick, Ryan, Daniel, Christopher, Avery, Trisha, and Jonathan. Son of the late Dr. George McAdie Hale and May Reid. Brother to George K. Hale. Pilot in RCAF 1943-45. Graduate of McGill University in Medicine in 1949. On staff Cardiology at The Montreal General Hospital. Associate professor McGill University 1954-1980. More recently on staff at the Toronto General Hospital. Retired Vice President and Medical Director of the Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada. A keen sportsman, He was inducted into the McGill University Hockey Hall of Fame in 1998. A long time member and past president of the country club of Montreal, and in recent years a member of the York Downs Golf and Country Club in Markham, Ontario. A memorial service will be held on Monday May 29, 2006 at Central United Church at 1 p.m. A reception will follow at the York Downs Golf and Country Club 4134 16th Avenue, Unionville, ON.
