Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Betty was active with the Innerkip Parks and Recreation. Friends were received at the R.D. WINDSOR Lynne Everett 1910 - 2006 Mr. Lynne Everett Windsor of Calgary (formerly of Winnipeg) passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 14, 2006 at the age of 95 years. Lynne was born in La Riviere, MB on April 27, 1910. He was an avid motorcyclist in his youth. During the Depression he worked for Winnipeg Electric. After his marriage to Dorothy Marguerite Laewetz in 1940 his motorcycle days ended as she preferred a car. In 1942, Lynne and Dorothy moved to Quebec where he worked as an engineer for the war effort. After the war, they relocated to Thunder Bay, ON where he worked for Canada Car. The family then moved to Winnipeg, MB in 1951 where he continued in an Engineering capacity with James B. Carter Corporation until his semi-retirement in the late 1970's. He then formed his own consulting company and continued to work with many varied manufacturers. He held many patents and received numerous awards for his work. Both he and Dorothy were involved in the Shriner's Hospital. Dorothy was in the Women's Auxiliary while Lynne was a Potentate's Aide and played Glockenspiel in the marching band. Lynne also volunteered at the Little Theatre, the precursor to MTC as a stage manager, while Dorothy was a costumer designer and seamstress. Their daughter Kathleen carried on the stage tradition by studying Drama at the University of Manitoba before her untimely passing in 1965. Lynne was particularly fond of their cottage north of Kenora, ON and spent many glorious summers there with family and friends. After Dorothy's passing in 1997 Lynne moved to an apartment and finally to a senior's residence in Winnipeg. He joined his son and his family in Calgary in 2005, moving to a senior's residence close to the family. Both Lynne and Dorothy were passionate about education leaving endowments to the University of Manitoba. Lynne will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his son Frank Windsor and his wife Danelle Turner; his granddaughters, Sarah Windsor and Rebecca Turner; and his many friends and acquaintances in both Calgary and Winnipeg that have enriched his life over his many years. Lynne was predeceased by his loving wife Dorothy in 1997 and his daughter Kathleen in 1965. A private family gathering will be held in Calgary on Sunday, March 26, 2006. KEOGH, Ellen Hope KEOGH, Ellen Hope (nee Libby) passed away peacefully at her home in Chénéville surrounded by her loving family on March 18, 2006 at the age of eighty-five years. Beloved wife of Desmond for 57 years, cherished mother of Brian (Linda Côté), Kathleen (Chandan Rugenius), Peter (Johanne Riopel) and Anne-Marie (Bill France). LAFRANCE, JAMES ALBERT - The death of James Albert Lafrance of Tilley occurred on March 17, 2006 at the Hotel Dieu Hospital at the age of 80. Born in Block X, Tilley, he was the son of the late Thomas and Susan LaFrance. He is survived by his wife Berneice (hanscom) LaFrance; three daughters Bonnie (Allison) Corbin of Plaster Rock, Susan (Ron) Goodine of Tilley and Sherry (Calvin) Green of Moncton; one son Eric (Wanda) LaFrance of Tilley; seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; two sisters, Irma Irving of Tilley and Juanita Branca of Detroit; one brother Larry MacLean of Halifax and one half brother Eldon LaFrance of Oromocto. Predeceased by his parents, sister Leila LaFrance, infant granddaughter Suzanne Goodine and recently another granddaughter Tanya Shaw. Resting at White's Funeral Home with visiting hours on Saturday, March 18th from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 19th at 2pm from White's Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ulysse Allain 1933 - 2006 Ulysse Allain, 73, of Moncton, passed away on Tuesday, March 14, 2006. ROTHERHAM, Geraldine Deborah (nee Stairs). 1916-2006. Passed away on March 13 at the Lady Minto Hospital, Ganges, Salt Spring Island, B.C., in her nintieth year. Beloved wife of the late Geoffrey Alexander (Hank) Rotherham. Much loved and respected mother of Tony and his wife Audrey of West Bolton, QC., Gib and Irene of West Bolton, QC, Judy and her husband Louis Adam of Crofton, BC and Arthur and his wife Amanda of Nanaimo, BC. Grandmother of Duncan, Tom, Janet, Michael, Alenka, Amie and Mariel and great-grandmother of Ella Poppy. She was educated at The Study and Macdonald College in Montreal. She was active in the Canadian Girl Guides. She was a dedicated gardener and artist. In 2004-5 Deborah published: 130 Wild Flowers of Quebec, illustrated with a collection of 59 original watercolours and descriptions of wild flowers done throughout her life. Deborah Stairs was born in Montreal, lived in Toronto, Aylmer, QC, Dartmouth NS, the UK and Knowlton, QC. She died on Salt Spring Island but her heart remained with the wild flowers of Brome County in the Eastern Township of Quebec. Special thanks to Dr. Berg and the nursing staff at the Lady Minto for their care and respect for Deborah. KYFFIN, BLAIR C. - The death of C. Blair Kyffin of 1627 Manawagonish Rd. occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Wednesday, March 15, 2006. Mr. Kyffin was born in Saint John, a son of the late Charles and Myrtle (Morrissey) Kyffin. Following a career as a technician in the Canadian Army, Blair worked for Pan-Am Airlines in Churchill, Manitoba, and in the real estate business in Winnipeg, before retiring to Saint John about 20 years ago. He is survived by one daughter, Deborah Bertran (Kenneth) of Wyvale, Ont.; one brother, George (Carol) of Quispamsis; seven sisters, Phyllis Gilcrist (Murray) of Gondola Pt., Patricia Tilley (Steve) of Sarnia, Ont., Eileen Magee (Ralph) of Saint John, Marjorie Gilcrist of Darling's Island, Rachel Hooper (Robert) of Moncton, and Karen Blanchard (Fred) and Suzanne Theriault (Richard), both of Quispamsis; two grandchildren, Melissa and David Bertran of Wyvale; and several nieces and nephews. O'NEILL, Juan (John) William April 14, 1933 to March 15, 2006 Poet, translator, journalist, composer, activist, arts organizer, father, proud abuelo, special friend and long-time Sandy Hill fixture, Juan was born in Santiago de Cuba April 14, 1933. Juan was an only child, predeceased by parents Zelia Fromm and Edward ONeill. His last afternoon was spent at his favourite cafe, working on his father's memoir, meeting a cherished friend. Juan attended Upper Canada College and McGill University and finished his degree in Latin American studies in Mexico City. He spent his early career working as a journalist for newspapers in Havana, Mexico City, Sudbury and Toronto. He traveled extensively throughout the Middle East in the 1970s and finally settled in Ottawa in 1976. He cared deeply about history, food, social justice, love, poetry and nurturing life from seed. He was especially motivated to provide venues for those to share their creativity who would otherwise have remained silent. Juan was kind and good. Survived by his grieving daughter Ariel, treasured grandson Hugo, aunt Mercedita and cousins in the U.S, Juan's family is actually vast, encompassing concentric circles of people in the Sasquatch Literary Arts and Performance Series, the expatriate latino writer's community, and within his neighbourhood. Immense gratitude to a close group of friends who shared Juan's interests and were always there for him. Profound thanks to the Heart Institute ICU staff, in particular to Marian, for the compassionate and respectful care given Juan in his final hours. The spiritual support of the Ontario Poetry Society and its members and the prayers and laughter of Fathers Tom and Robert will long be remembered. There will be a Sasquatch reading in Juan's honour Sunday March 19th at the Royal Oak on Laurier Avenue from 2 p.m. onwards. Among the many speakers paying tribute to him will be Seymour Mayne of the University of Ottawa. A non-Eucharist memorial service will be held the next day, Monday March 20th at 12 p.m. at St. Joseph's Parish (151 Laurier East) with time made available for friends to speak or perform. Following Juan's wishes, his ashes will be at interred at Beechwood Cemetery at a later date. Preservation of his writings will be ensured by family and friends. OBITUARY CLAIRE MAY PATTERSON (CORMIER) Peacefully at Wentworth Lodge in Dundas, Ontario on Sunday, March 12, 2006 with family by her side, Claire joined her husband Pat eleven years to the day after he had passed away. Claire was in her ninety-second year. Predeceased by her sister, Bertha Carpentier and brother, Albert. Beloved mother of Bev (Harry Hudson) of Dundas, Ontario and Pat (Jerry Townsend) of Vancouver, B.C. Grandmother of Claire Ryan, Rob (Leslie) Mastromatteo, Gerald (Anna) Mastromatteo, Scott (Sarah) Mastromatteo and 12 great grandchildren. Adored aunt of many nieces and nephews. Claire and Pat lived in Montreal (NDG, Benny Farm, & Cote St Luc) from 1949 to 1975. Pat taught with the PSBGM and Claire was a busy mother and wonderful homemaker. They had many friends in the area and get-togethers at the Patterson home were always a good time. A small woman with a big heart, Claire was always ready to pitch in and help a family member, a friend, or a stranger. One November back in the late 1950's, a Montreal radio pastor (Pastor Johnson) needed someone to gather all the Christmas necessities for a family with 11 girls. Claire heard of the family's plight and called to sponsor the family. She canvassed her neighbours for food and gift donations, bought the turkey and whatever else was needed, wrapped the presents, and together with her family delivered everything to the needy folks. It was an evening no one present would ever forget. Claire and Pat retired to Ontario in 1975. Claire enjoyed being back in Dundas with her extended family nearby. She became the family matriarch and held an esteemed place in the lives of her family and friends. Claire was devastated when hubby Pat died in 1995 but with time and the special care of her daughter, Bev, Claire began to enjoy life again. Claire joined two local day programs which added a great deal of quality to her life. With daughters Bev and Pat, Claire took many trips in her eighties to the Poconos, Cape Cod, Vancouver, and Hawaii. Her favourite spot was Hawaii. She loved the climate and the flowers there. Her last trip was in 2004 with family to the Congres Mondiale Acadien in Nova Scotia where they met other Cormiers and visited friends and relatives. In her final years, Claire had dementia and she and her family struggled to understand this demoralizing disease. Claire and her family were greatly helped by a local Alzheimer Society Support Group and her psycho-gerontologist, Dr. Luthra, who worked with Claire to find medication that would help. Family was everything to Claire and she adored children and animals. Even into her nineties, Claire was concerned with the plight of the poor. For her ninetieth birthday, she requested that instead of gifts, guests bring a donation for the food bank. Upon her death, her family thought it fitting to request that visitors to the funeral home bring a donation for the local food bank. Even in death, Claire was still giving. Claire's funeral took place at the Marlatt Dundas Chapel on March 16, 2006. Claire was buried in St. Augustine's Cemetery in Dundas along with the ashes of her husband, Pat.
