GRONDIN BILODEAU, Jeanne D'Arc À St-Hubert, le 10 mars 2006, à l'âge de 78 ans et 11 mois, est décédée Mme Jeanne D'Arc Grondin, épouse de feu Jean Bilodeau. Elle laisse dans le deuil ses enfants, Mariette (Fernand), Denis (Charline), Marcel (Diane), Nicole (Yves), Yvon (Marielle), Mario (Kelly). Ses 13 petits-enfants, ses 7 arrière-petits-enfants. Elle était la soeur de feu Louis-Philippe (feu Marie-Blanche), feu Aurélien (Germaine), feu Hervé (Suzane), feu Rose (Normand), feu Léonard (Denise), Patricia (Camille), Claire, Réjeanne (Claude). Elle laisse également ses belles-soeurs et beaux-frères, ainsi que ses neveux et nièces, autres parents et amis. Les funérailles auront lieu le samedi 18 mars. Le convoi funèbre partira du Salon Jacques & Frères St-Ephrem de Beauce pour se rendre à l'église St-Ephrem, où le service sera célébré à 11 heures. OZAAWI-MAKOONS AGNES BENEDIX (HANDORGAN) MOOZ DODEM (MOOSE CLAN) It is with great sadness that the family of Agnes Benedix (Handorgan) announces her sudden passing on Tuesday, March 7, 2006. Agnes was born Feb. 2, 1946 in Rainy River, Ont. to the late William and Clara Handorgan. She spent the early years of her life out at their traditional community at Naongashiing (Sandpoint) on Lake of the Woods. She attended school in Kenora, Ont. from the age of five until 18. Agnes was united in marriage to Ronald Strand and had three daughters. At a later date, she met Melvin Kavanaugh and they had one daughter. She met John Benedix afterwards, with whom she had one daughter and married in June, 1982. In 1979, Agnes completed her Registered Nursing Assistant certificate. She worked at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont. for four years. In 1989, she started working in the social work field at Faye Peterson Transition House in Thunder Bay, Ont. In 1993, she returned to her home community to work as a family service worker for the First Nation. She was employed for 13 years as an F.S.W. until the date of her passing. She was predeceased by her parents, William and Clara Handorgan; one daughter, Candace Strand; and one brother, Bernard Handorgan. Agnes is survived by four daughters, Tina Strand of Crookston, Mn., Carol Johnson of Thief River Falls, Mn., Joline White of Winnipeg, Man., and Amy Big George of Rainy River, Ont.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Gladys DeBungie of Manitou First Nation, Ont., Margaret Yerxa, and Rose and husband, Clifford Tuesday, all of Big Island First Nation, Ont.; two brothers, Myers Handorgan (Marion) and Robert Handorgan (Joanne), of Big Island First Nation, Ont.; and numerous nieces and nephews. A traditional burial ritual was held Sunday, March 12, 200, at Megwebines School at Big Island First Nation. Elder Fred Kelly will officiate, with interment in Big Island First Nation Cemetery. A wake was held Saturday evening at the Megwebines School in Big Island First Nation. The pallbearers were Garnet Comegan, Dennis Big George, Robert Morrison, Wesley Big George, Chris Big George, and Elvis Adams. The honourary pallbearers were Clifford Tuesday Sr., Robert Handorgan, Myers Handorgan, Reggie Morrison, and Makade-Ginew (James Handorgan). Should family and friends so desire, in memoriam donations may be made either to La Verendrye General Hospital, 110 Victoria Ave., Fort Frances, Ont. Her spirit drew family and friends together, to laugh, to find humour and beauty in the simplest things, and, above all, to love each other. Her grandchildren adored her, and she kept each and every one of them in a special place in her heart. They were the ones to make her shine and reveal all the wonderful qualities that made her such an incredible woman. Agnes was close to all of her siblings, and she enjoyed spending time with each of them for her own special reasons. She also loved spending time finding the peace and beauty that nature offers us, and she had her own special places where she would go to for her prayers and offering of tobacco. Agnes had a very kind and generous heart. She always went out of her way to help others, especially in her work with families and children. Agnes gave her love and opened her heart and that was returned to her by her friends and family. She will be greatly missed by those that love her, and she will always live in a special place in our heart.

DOWNING, Mary (nee Orbane). 1910-2006. Peacefully at St. Mary's Hospital on Monday, March 13, 2006 at the age of ninety-five years. Beloved wife of the late James E. Downing and the late Richard Yorke. Predeceased by her son Richard Yorke Jr. and by her sisters Eleanor Moukhin, Edith Fry, Helen Hale and her brother Louis Orbane. She also leaves to mourn her daughter Connie Blair (Richard) and daughter-in-law Louise Garneau. Cherished nanny of Barbara, Caroline and Elizabeth Blair and Susan and Richard Yorke. Great-grandmother to Catherine and Patrick Blair-Timothy, Emma and Bruce Smith, Nicole Templeton and Stas and Maeka. She will be missed by numerous nieces and nephews. Mary was an avid volunteer at St. Mary's Hospital in the 1960s and the Brome-Mississquoi Perkins Hospital in Cowansville, Qc., in the 1970s and at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in the 1980s and 1990s. Retiree of Sandvik Canada after many years of devoted service. A heartfelt thanks to Linda Boudreau, Julia Baker, Joyce Gray and the entire staff of Borden Place for their care. The family would also like to thank the wonderful doctors, nurses' aides at St. Mary's Hospital, 5 South, for their kindness and compassion towards Mary and her family. BERTSCH: Ella 1913 - 2006 IN MEMORY OF ELLA BERTSCH Ella Bertsch was born July 20, 1913 on the family farm south of Carbon. Her parents, Jacob and Sophie Bertsch, along with her 10 older brothers and sisters had just moved to Canada in the spring of 1913. Ella grew up on the farm, attended the Freudental Baptist Church and went to the Mosher School. She was baptized along with her brother Otto and sister Hilda in 1930 in the Kneehill Creek by Rev. Itterman. Ella was very skilled at caring for other people and had many jobs using her abilities in this area. Her last place of employment was at the Drumheller Nursing Home where she worked with diligence and cheerfulness each day. Ella had a long and enjoyable retirement spending time with her many friends and her large family. Nothing thrilled her more than to be able to entertain, complete with a delicious meal. Ella passed away peacefully on February 18, 2006 at the Bethany Nursing Home in Red Deer. She was predeceased by her parents, seven brothers, four sisters, and 13 nieces and nephews. She leaves to celebrate her life, her sister Hilda Ohlhauser and her brother Otto, along with 19 nieces and nephews, as well as numerous friends. Ella was completely dedicated to her Christian faith and to her family. She will be missed by all who knew her.

FERGENBAUM, Myrna. Sixty-four, of Indian Shores Florida, formerly of Montreal, Quebec, passed away Wednesday, March 8, 2006 at Hospice House Woodside, Pinellas Park Florida. She moved to the Tampa Bay area in 1978 from her native Montreal, Quebec. She was an office manager, and was an Instructor of Personal Growth Courses. She was a volunteer at All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg and for the Humane Society. Survivors include her husband of 43 years Mel; two sons Mark of Denver, CO, and Mitch of Seminole; a daughter Melanie Pelc of St. Paul, MN; a brother Howard Goldberg and two sisters Recia Merson and Linda Urtick, all of Montreal, Quebec and three grandchildren, Torye, Evan and Joshua. Gerald (Jerry) Malcolm The funeral service was held for Gerald (Jerry) Malcolm at McGuinty Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, February 16, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. Deacon Allan Charette from Corpus Christi Church officiated. First reading was read by Christine Osborne, Jerry's niece and goddaughter. Psalm was sung by Nicky Charette. Second reading was read by Brenda Jones, Jerry's younger sister. A reminiscent eulogy was given by Jerry's nephew, John Malcolm (Edmonton). Jerry was a lifelong resident of North Bay. He died in the Emergency Department at North Bay General Hospital, Scollard Site on Sunday, February 12, 2006 at the age of 66. He was born March 31, 1939 and was the son of the late Mary and Gerald Malcolm. Jerry retired from the North Bay Post Office in 2004. Jerry will be sadly missed by his wife Bev (Garrison), his daughter Tracy (Oreste Mettimano) of Calgary, son Dwayne of North Bay. Dear brother of Everitt (Cathie) of Stratford, Geraldine (Gerri) McCauley, Brenda Jones, brother-in-law Chuck Osborne, along with many nieces and nephews as well as close friends. Jerry was predeceased by sisters and brothers-in-law; Shirley and Les Cowden, Beulah Osborne, Jack Jones and Walter McCauley. Jerry's cremated remains will be buried with his mother and father at St. Mary's Cemetery. Spring interment. TRAVIS SNIDER Travis Snider passed away suddenly on Sunday, March 5, 2006 doing what he loved to do. He will be dearly missed as a loving, dedicated, devoted, and understanding husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend. He was born July 15, 1970. Travis is survived by his wife of 13 years, Julie; two children, Jennifer and Ryan; parents, Ralph and Judy; brothers, Tim, and Terry (Charlene) with his daughter, Charmaine; sister, Sheri and her children, Conner and Sara; grandma, Pearl Daw Stevens; and numerous family members. He was predeceased by three grandparents and his faithful, trusty best friend “Max.” Travis had a lot of friends that he always talked highly of and respected very much, and always had fun while being with them. Bill will be sadly missed by George and Irene, Dave and Donna, Aaron, Dina, Paul, Nancy, Laurent and many, many friends. Bill was a lifetime resident of Niagara-on-the-Lake. After graduation from NDSS, Bill became employed by Provincial Gas and continued its evolution to Direct Energy where he acted as Supervisor of Service and worked with various contractors throughout the region. While working full time, Bill still enjoyed spending time working the farm with his father. Bill was fortunate to have had an early retirement. Bill enjoyed playing hockey, baseball, golf and kayaking, along with showing and driving his ‘57 Chevy. He especially enjoyed Friday night hockey and camaraderie with the Niagara on the Lake Ambassadors team. Bill was diagnosed in September 1995 with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Because of his courage and willingness to try experimental treatments he was able to spend additional cherished time with his family. Bill will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by those whose lives he has touched. We would like to thank Dr. Giesbrecht, Dr. Proudfoot, Dr. J. Frendo, Dr. Sandra Hartman, Karen, Julie, Lucy, Nita, Mugs and Bernie who are nurses in the Oncology Unit at Hotel Dieu and the St. Catharines General Hospital. PARRY, Louis John Aged 88, died in Ottawa Civic Hospital on Tuesday 14 March, 2006 after a sudden illness. Widower of his beloved Betty Schondelmayer; much-loved father of John S. Parry and Lyn Beattie, father-in-law of Anna Bukowska and Tudor Beattie, and grandfather of Alexandra Parry and Sara Beattie. John grew up in Hamilton, Ontario, son of Dr. John R. Parry and Evelyn Breithaupt and younger brother of Margaret (Murgatroyd) and Betty (Sihler) --and of dear Rosa, who survives him. A graduate of McMaster University, he was a naval supply officer 1942-45 in Halifax, St. John's, Londonderry, and Greenock. He worked for 27 years with the civil service in Hamilton and, after 1970, in Ottawa. In the mid-1930s Frank Bogart in Hamilton had taught him piano; even recently, his new friends in Central Park Lodge, Ottawa, loved his playing. Much of his sheet music is now at Mohawk College, Hamilton, for students to use and enjoy. Memorial service at 11.30 a.m. on Friday, 17 March, 2006 at Hulse Playfair and McGarry Funeral Home, 315 McLeod Street, Ottawa, phone 613-233-1143; interment later in Hamilton. BANGO Ferenc (Frank) Frank Bango passed away peacefully at the Foothills Hospital ICU on Saturday, March 11, 2006. Frank was born May 16, 1931 in Sopron, Hungary. He is survived by his wife Maggie, son Joe and wife Cheryl, two granddaughters, Candice and Michele; from his Homeland immediate family: younger brother Jonas, niece Cica, nephew Janika and families as well as many friends new and old. Frank spent the majority of his life working as a Master Journeyman Baker in Hungary and across Canada. In his younger years he played on the Hungarian Olympic Soccer team. Frank was also a Paratrooper Sergeant Major in the Hungarian Army. He was an avid lover of dogs. Frank's final wishes were fulfilled and he is now in Heaven with his Mother, Maria, and Father, Ferenc. À Paris le 1er mars 2006, est décédé M. Pierre-Paul Bertin, peintre, sculpteur et graveur. M. Bertin a fait l’objet de nombreuses distinctions tout au cours de sa carrière artistique. Il était, entre autres, membre de la Fondation Taylor, de la Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts de Paris, de l’Académie Lutèce, et Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres de France. Il était également Vice-Président national honoraire pour le Canada de la Société «Greci-Marino» d’Italie et citoyen honoraire de la Ville de Thetford-Mines. Il sera reçu, à titre posthume, citoyen honoraire de la Ville de Reims où il avait ses ateliers avant de s’établir au Québec à la suite du Symposium de sculptures de Québec en 1966. Il avait été fasciné par la splendeur des paysages, le gigantisme du Fleuve Saint-Laurent et la beauté de la Gaspésie. Toute sa carrière en a d’ailleurs été inspirée. M. Bertin était l’époux de Madame Paule Robert et demeurait à Beauport. Il laisse dans le deuil, outre son épouse, ses beaux-frères et belles-sœurs de la famille Robert : Lionel (Madeleine Côté), Réjeane (Jacques Émond), Hugues, Gaétan (Lise Sirois), Serge, Alain et Josée ainsi que plusieurs neveux et nièces. Depuis plusieurs années, il y avait aménagé un spectaculaire jardin de sculptures», rappelle son épouse, Mme Paule Robert. C'est en 1966 que Pierre-Paul Bertin découvre le Québec. Il représentait alors la France au Symposium de sculptures de Québec. Événement qui lui permet de réaliser, sur les plaines d'Abraham, une sculpture en bois représentant une quinzaine de personnages. L'oeuvre était dédiée aux déportés de Treblinka. Les tortures, les privations, la déportation et l'Holocauste sont des thèmes qui ont beaucoup influencé son travail, principalement au cours de la première partie de sa carrière, en France. Son atelier était alors situé à Reims. Une ville dont il sera bientôt fait citoyen honoraire à titre posthume, de nous confirmer son épouse. Dès 1967, la carrière de Pierre-Paul Bertin se transporte au Québec, où il obtient un poste de professeur à l'École des beaux-arts. Il fait plus tard la rencontre de la Québécoise qui sera son épouse. Mme Robert est alors étudiante en enseignement à l'Université Laval. Souvent, le midi, elle casse la croûte installée sur une des sculptures réalisées par M. Bertin quelques années plus tôt. «C'est là que nous nous sommes connus », nous confiait cette semaine la veuve de l'artiste. Fidèles complices et partenaires depuis plus de 25 ans, le couple Bertin-Robert a mieux supporté le temps que les oeuvres qui ont servi de prétexte à leurs premières discussions. «Il ne reste plus rien des sculptures créées lors du Symposium de 1966 sur les Plaines. Tout a été détruit ou déménagé depuis belle lurette. Une décision que Pierre-Paul a eu de la difficulté à accepter», se souvient Mme Robert. Pierre-Paul Bertin n'a plus jamais quitté le Québec. John was born in Durham, ON, raised in Elmira, ON, and educated at Queen's University in Kingston, ON. HEPBURN, STANLEY JOHN "JACK" The passing of Stanley John "Jack" Hepburn, husband for 63 years of Marion (Ready) Hepburn, of Fredericton, NB, occurred on March 12, 2006 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on November 8, 1921 in Manitoba, he was a son of the late Robert and Mae (Watson) Hepburn. Jack retired from the Civil Service in McGivney and Oromocto, NB. He was a member of the Nashwaaksis United Church, the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 80 "Beaverbrook" and of the Nashwaaksis Lions Club. He was a veteran of the Royal Canadian Air Force. MANNETTE, CHARLES On March 10, 2006 Douglas Charles Mannette of Quispamsis, NB passed away unexpectedly in the loving arms of his wife Barbara of 36 years. He was born July 5, 1947 in Oromocto, NB. Doug was a dedicated Father to Karen (Khalid) and Kathy (Doug). He was a loving brother to Raymond and Anne (Jim) and a proud Papa to his three grandchildren, the apples of his eye Meredith (4), Benjamin (2) and Khadigah (2). He was a devoted son to Irene and son in law to Mary Patricia Hazlewood, and was predeceased by his father Charles. Doug was loved and respected by his in laws, several nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and many friends. Doug was employed with the NB Telephone Company, Xerox Canada and the Canadian Red Cross Society. For the past 12 years, Doug has been a successful entrepreneur, owning ATHENA, The Art and Framing Store, in McAllister Place Mall. Among his many accomplishments, he was a member of the Canadian Ski Patrol, The Atlantic Health Science Corporation Board of Directors and was involved with many volunteer organizations. Recently retired, Doug and Barb were enjoying many happy moments in their condo in Largo, Florida. Doug enjoyed life to the fullest. He will be remembered by all who knew him as a funny, smart, caring and compassionate man. Florida Geneva Leblanc (Nee Leblanc) WINNIPEG, MB - Florida passed away peacefully at Riverview Health Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba, at the age of 81 on Saturday, March 11, 2006. She is survived by her five daughters, Julianne, Cécile, Jeannette, Noëlla and Lucie; son, Louis; brothers, Henry, Valerie, Edwin; sister, Leona; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by her husband, Garnet Smith; her two daughters, Diane (Leon) Gallant and Jacqueline Smith; and her four wonderful grandchildren, Ashley, Naketah, Markus and Jesse who she admired deeply. She was predeceased by her parents; a daughter, Elaine Smith; and her brother, Daryl Hickey. Lorraine is also survived by three sisters, Wanda (Richard) Letson, Mary (Joe) Mazerolle and Brenda (Peter) Ernst; and her two brothers, Paul (Ann) Hickey, Raymond (Ann) Hickey; and sister-in-law Susan Hickey, the wife of the late Daryl Hickey. She had several nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many, many friends. Visitation will be held at Fair Haven Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 15th, 2006 from 7 to 9 pm and Thursday, March 16, 2006 from 2:00 pm until the time of the funeral service. The Funeral Service will be held from Fair Haven Funeral Home Chapel at 4 o'clock on Thursday, March 16, 2006. Following the service friends are invited to gather at the home of Garnet Smith. Interment in Ocean View Cemetery, 715 Latimore Lake Road, Saint John on Friday, March 17 at 2:00 pm.
