YOUNG, ELEANOR ELIZABETH Eleanor Elizabeth Young of Woodstock passed away at the Carleton Memorial Hospital in Woodstock on Thursday, December 01, 2005, at the age of 74. Eleanor is survived by one son, Stephen Young of Victoria, BC; one daughter, Joy (Alan) Maddox and two grandchildren Erika and Jordan of Langley, BC; one sister, Greta (Don) Rushbrook of Fredericton, NB; one brother Keith (Janet) Wright of Woodstock; and several nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Ernest Young and her parents, Lloyd and Annie (Cronkhite) Wright. Although there will be no visitation time, relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service which will be held on Monday at 2:00 pm from the Woodstock Wesleyan Church. Rev. Dale MacDonald will be officiating, with interment in the Woodstock Rural Cemetery. Following the graveside service, a reception will take place at the Woodstock Wesleyan Church. BLYTH, WARREN KAMBER The death of Warren Kamber Blyth occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on December 1, 2005 at the age of 48 years. Born December 14, 1956 in Chipman, he was the son of Andrew and Ida Blyth. Survived by mother Ida, brothers David (Debbie), Jim (Rose), Mark (Sherry), Billy (Inez) and by sisters May Norcott (Gary), Linda Kaulbach (Rose), Lorraine Saulnier (Thomas). Predeceased by father Andrew Blyth in 2001. Visitation at Chipman Funeral Home 2-4 and 7-9 Saturday with Legion service at 6:45. Funeral service at 2 p.m. from the Second Chipman United Baptist Church on Sunday, December 4, 2005 officiated by Paster John Dunnett and assisted by Rev Jim Postlethwaite. BATE, GEORGE WARBURTON, M.D. C.M. - Death occurred peacefully December 2, 2005, at his home on Germain St. with grace and courage as he lived his life. Born in Charlottetown, PEI to Archdeacon Alban F. and Norah F. (Warburton) Bate. He graduated from Rothesay Collegiate School receiving the Governor General's Medal. His pre-med education was interrupted from 1942-1945 while he served in the Royal Canadian Navy as a Lieutenant on a North Atlantic Corvette. Upon graduation from Dalhousie University Medical School he practised family medicine for six years, first in McAdam and later in Rothesay. He then spent four years in Worcester, MA becoming a general surgeon, certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons and the American College of Surgery. He came to Saint John in 1961 to begin the practice of surgery with a special interest in pediatric and breast surgery. He loved being a surgeon and his career has been marked by his dedication to the holistic approach to his patients. He had a quiet strength and sincerity, which gave comfort to those in his care. He was involved in the education of internes and residents for over thirty years. His caring and compassion for his patients served as a source of inspiration to those he mentored and taught. He chaired numerous hospital committees and spearheaded many innovative changes and programs. He was an early advocate for a palliative care service. He served as President of the Medical Staff of the Saint John General Hospital. He was recognized by his peers in the NB Medical Society with the Dr. Garfield Moffatt award for "exceptional standards as a practising physician; outstanding leadership and dedication to community service, extraordinary contributions in the education of others; and for his life long commitment to the quality of life and the joy of living". He cared deeply about his country, his community and his St. Paul's (Valley) Church. He worked diligently for the United Way, Salvation Army, served on the board of Saint John Energy, Canadian Corps of Commissionaires as Chairman of the Board of Governors for NB and PEI, and participated in many community endeavours in the South End of Saint John. His commitment to his community was recognized by the Canada 125 Medal and the Queens Jubilee Medal. He was a member of the Byng Boys Club and Parrtown Club. Dr. George Bate led a full and vigorous life and his love and friendship will be missed by his many friends and family. Predeceased by his first wife Vera (Crummey) and his daughter Susan. He leaves his wife Beverly (Cooke), his son James (Nadine) of Durham, NS, and daughters Janet (Bill) Brittain of Vancouver, Christine (John) Webster of Florida, Angela of Vancouver and Kate (Patrick) Marshall of Toronto. Sisters Mary (Tom) Foster, Margaret Ann (Gerald) Langmaid, Dorothea (Tom) Beckwith, Olga (Rory) Grant, brother John (Sharon). Grandchildren Christine, Michael Brittain and Jennifer (Matt) Wong, Andrew Webster, Colin, Adam, Peter and Devon Bate. Several nieces and nephews. Alva was the son of the late Robert and Edith (Clark) Beam. BUSTIN, MARIAN WILMA - The death of Marian Wilma Bustin (Harvey) of Brown's Flat NB occurred peacefully at her home Dec. 2 following a lengthy illness. She was the wife of the late John Gilbert Bustin, born in Grand Manan Island Jan. 23, 1928. She was a daughter of the late Samuel and Eunice (Joy) Harvey. She is survived by one daughter, Ruth Jones and two grandsons, Eric Morton (Robyn) and Kevin Morton (Michelle). Also survived by four great grandchildren: Natasha, Hilary, Ryan and Brayden. Marion graduated from the Saint John School of Nursing in 1949 and she worked at the Department of Health for many years, retiring in 1988. She enjoyed camping and trips to Grand Manan. She was predeceased by a brother and a sister. JONES, ELEANOR MAY - The death of Eleanor M. Jones of Rocmaura Nursing Home, Saint John, NB, wife of the late Kenneth A. Jones, occurred on Thursday, December 1, 2005 at the age of 100. Born in Toronto, ON a daughter of the late Richard and Eleanor (Hoffman) Johnson. Survived by one son, Kent (Yvonne) Jones of Saint John; two daughters, Nancy (Peter) Lees of Toronto and Carolyn (Winston) Thompson of Rothesay, NB; seven grandchildren, one step-granddaughter, seven great-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Émilie Goguen 27 novembre 1909 - 3 decembre 2005 A sa résidence, le samedi 3 décembre 2005, à l'âge de 96 ans, est décédée Émilie Goguen, épouse de feu Albert Goguen, domiciliée à Shédiac mais autrefois de Moncton, rue Spruce. Née le 27 novembre 1909 à Moncton, elle était la fille de feu Pierre Allain et de feu Geneviève Allain. Elle laisse dans le deuil son fils Raymond (Marlene) de Moncton; deux petits-enfants: Mike et Monique; trois arrière petits-enfants: Kristie, Kerri, Brett; plusieurs nièces et neveux. Elle était la dernière survivante de sa famille immédiate. La dépouille mortelle est exposée au salon funéraire Frenette, 88, rue Church à Moncton (858-1900). Les funérailles auront lieu le mardi 6 décembre 2005 à 11h en l'église N.-D.-de-Grâce (Parkton). L'inhumation se fera dans le cimetière N.-D.-du-Calvaire à Dieppe. Heures de visite le lundi de 14h à 16h et de 19h à 21h, le mardi dès 10h jusqu'à l'heure du départ (10:45). A la demande de la famille, un don à la fondation Alzheimer ou des maladies du coeur serait apprécié.

FORD, Phyllis Irene Retired Kindergarten Teacher Charles Hulse School Phyllis passed away peacefully at her retirement home on Thursday, December 1, 2005 in her 93rd year. Beloved wife of the late Arthur Morrell Ford (1908 - 1955). Predeceased by her parents Clarence and Jean Coombes of Fort William and her sister Doreen. Loving mother of Don (Margo) and Clare (Chris); grandmother of Heather (Bill Charbonneau), Tricia, Julia (Matt Mozer), Lesley (Tim Brock), Liz (Andrew Stevens) and Matt (Lana), and great grandmother "GG" of Terry and Kristopher Charbonneau, Liam Ford, Connor, Nolan and Ciara Mozer, Gavin and Elyse Brock, Kate Stevens. Phyllis was a long time member of Erskine Presbyterian Church. Phyllis loved her family and her kindergarten pupils. She enjoyed knitting, baking cookies, cottaging at Silver Islet and playing bridge with her infamous Bridge Club that now includes Muriel, Jean, Helen and Irene. Our sincere thanks to her special caregiver, Fran Blair, who helped her live in her home until recently. Special thanks also to the staff at Alta Vista Manor for their caring and professional support and to Dr. Chris Weber who supervised her care. LATIMER, Dorothy Alicia (nee O'Hara) Peacefully at the Peter D. Clark Long Term Care Centre on December 1, 2005 at the age of 92. Daughter of the late William and Maria O'Hara, of Brockville, ON. Devoted wife of the late Frederick Harold Latimer. Much loved mother of Janice (Bob Forbes) and Bill (Heather Hiscock). Cherished and exceptionally proud and loving grandmother to Bryson (Ruth Catney) and Jennifer (Joel Semmens). Dear great-grandmother to Caira and Ethan. Predeceased by brothers Garret, George and Bernard and sister Beth. Fondly remembered by sister-in-law Geraldine Deir and several nieces and nephews. Husband of the late Margaret Nance, father of Oool Fjolkunnigr (Robert Charles), dearly loved grandfather of Freyja Zazu Fjolkunnigr. Dan was like a father to Freyja's mother, Swan DaSilva, his loving caregiver for many years. He was very appreciative of his friend, Robert DaSilva, who gave generously of his time helping Dan. In his last months Dan was happy to meet and spend time with his Indonesian family, his daughter-in-law Roffi Raswati Fjolkunnigr, his grandson Dorje-Ling, and Roffi's sister, Asti. Dan was brother of Francis, Eileen, the late Robert and Harriet. Companion of the late Helen Crosbie, friend of her children Don and Heather, and friend of Heather Gravelle. Long time friend of Bernice Noblitt, Marg Skidmore, Norm Lawrence and Jack Brady. Friend of Ian Gravelle (Linda), Sandra Winkler (Brian), Joanne McAdam and family. Dan had a wonderful sense of humour; kind and generous, he was a supporter of many charities. Dan was a multitalented craftsman, musician, painter, gardener, world traveller and amateur archaeologist. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. OBITUARY ELIZABETH (HOLLY) RORKE NELSON It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden death of Elizabeth (Holly) Rorke Nelson, Friday December 2, at home. Born on December 23, 1947 in Montreal, Holly was the youngest daughter of Alice and Leeds Nelson. She attended Roslyn School, graduated from The Study, and received her R.N. diploma from The Montreal General Hospital. She earned a Master of Education degree in Counseling Psychology from McGill University. She was very excited about her role in the creation of The McGill University Health Centre's groundbreaking Anxiety Clinic at the Allan Memorial Hospital. Her compassion, dedication and easy humour would have been valuable assets in the completion of this project. Holly was a great storyteller, lover of life, world traveller, and deeply devoted to her family and friends. She brought people together at every opportunity and her favourite setting was Magog, where she was the chef at command central, dashing to catch the sunset over the lake. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Carrie Elizabeth Haber (Daniel Webster) and son, David Nelson Haber, her two adored grandchildren, Alice Finn and Gahan Elliott Webster, all of Montreal, two sisters, Sherrill Nelson Musty of Burlington, Vermont and Jane Alice Nelson of Montreal, Patricia Meredith, nephews Andrew and Jamie Musty, life-long friend Lizette Gilday and her daughter, Danya, and her former husband, George David Haber. SOUTTER, Colin Donald. Passed away, at the Charles Lemoyne Hospital, on November 19, 2005 at the age of seventy-eight years. He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Janet Anne Munro. His four children; Wayne (Khristian), Debbie, Colleen and Jeff (Janet). His eight grandchildren; Matthew, Jennifer, Ryan, Nathan, Evan, Kyle, Megan and Christofer. Don does not need to be enlarged in death beyond what he was in life. He should be remembered as a good and decent man whose tall stature was dwarfed by his strength of character and kindness of nature. He profoundly and positively touched the lives of those who were privileged enough to have known him. His commitment to both his family and career were unparalleled. Beginning as a floor helper and rising to become the vice president of operations, he worked for the same organization for more than fifty years. This was truly indicative of the level of loyalty to family, friends and career. His gentle guidance and keen sense of humour will be sadly missed. She will be remembered for her baking (Beamsville Fair Bake Queen) and cooking, homemade Christmas gifts, penmanship, salesmanship, gardening and needlework. She had a strong faith in Jesus Christ and was a faithful member of the Vineland United Mennonite Church for many years. McKENZIE, Frederick Dawson - On Friday December 2, 2005, peacefully at Extendicare in St. Catharines, at the age of 98. Beloved husband of the late Edith Marion (Tennant) (2002). He will be sadly missed by his daughter Marion and son-in- law Paul McQueen. Beloved grandfather (Bapa) to Jill and husband Byron Demoe and James McQueen. Loving great grandfather to Melissa and Brett (Demoe), Dawson and Davyn (McQueen). Survived by sister Laura Taylor. Fred was a fruit farmer in the former Louth Township for approximately 50 years. His political involvement spanned a quarter of a century that included Reeve of Louth Township from 1960-1963 and again 1968-1969. He was Warden of Lincoln County in 1963, a Town of Lincoln Regional Councillor from 1970- 1974 and Mayor of Lincoln from 1975-1978. Fred was an active member of Club of the Twenty and West St. Catharines Seniors, past member of the Jordan Lions and Port Dalhousie Lawn Bowling. He was Past Master of Temple Lodge AF & AM in 1957. McCONNELL, Ann Edith - Mrs. Ann McConnell died suddenly at Niagara Falls General Hospital on Wednesday, November 30, 2005, in her 88th year. Ann (Waldriff) was predeceased by her husband Charles Melville (Mel) McConnell (1919-1990), her son Ross (1938-1983), two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was the loving mother of Shirley McConnell and Gerry McConnell (Lucille) of Niagara Falls, Glen McConnell (Christine) of Callander, Roy McConnell (Mary) of Callander, Cheryl Storie (Sam Peragine) of Niagara Falls and grandmother of 27 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Ann was the dear sister of Laura Ryder of Otterville, Elva Vollick of Callander, Delta Bouchard of Bracebridge, Dan Waldriff of Redbridge and Lucy McVeety of North Bay and was predeceased by siblings Elsie Johnston, Ruth Dennison, Jim and Jack Waldriff. O'CONNOR, Father Desmond - Father Desmond O'Connor, age 70 passed away peacefully at St. Joseph's Mother House in North Bay on Thursday, December 1, 2005 surrounded by members of his loving family and Sisters of St. Joseph. Father O'Connor fought a very courageous battle with a rather aggressive cancer but he lived life to the fullest until the very end. Father O'Connor was born in Killaloe on February 14, 1935. He attended St. Augustine's Seminary from 1954 until his ordination on May 11, 1961. He was Parish Priest at Nativity Parish in Timmins from 1961 to 1971, at Holy Family Parish in Englehart from 1971 to 1973, at Our Mother of Perpetual Help in New Liskeard from 1972 to 1973, at Holy Name of Jesus Parish in Kirkland Lake from 1973 to 1981 and returned to Nativity Parish in Timmins from 1981 to 1994. Father Des was on sabbatical for 1994-1995 and then returned to Kirkland Lake and Englehart from 1995 until his retirement in June 2005. Father O'Connor was also an Associate of the Grey Sisters of Pembroke. Father O'Connor was predeceased by his brother Terence on June 3, 1962, his father Patrick on March 3, 1964 and his mother Ethel (nee Sullivan) on March 24, 1995. He is survived by his sister Margaret and husband Jim Gleason of North Bay, brother Kevin and wife Maureen of Killaloe, sister Phyllis of North Bay (a sister of St. Joseph), sister Colleen and husband Robert Dodge of New Liskeard, brother Jack and wife Patricia of Lac Labiche, Alberta. He will be sadly missed by his family, nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and many friends. The family will receive relatives and friends at Holy Name of Jesus Parish (corner of Kirkland St. and Lebel St.) in Kirkland Lake on Sunday, December 4, 2005 from 2 to 5 and 6 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Name of Jesus Parish on Monday, December 5, 2005 at 11 a.m. with Bishop Paul Marchand officiating. SMALLWOOD, Margaret Marie - 83, Mooseland, Halifax County, died November 29, 2005 in the Queen Elizabeth II, Infirmary Site, Halifax. Born in Mooseland on March 22, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Boyd and Alice (Mitchell) Prest. Margaret had moved back to Nova Scotia from Ontario in 2003, and spent her last days lovingly supported by her husband Robin. She was a devoted mother, and actively serve St. Brice's Anglican Church in North Bay, Ontario for 35 years. Upon returning to the village of Mooseland, she was especially pleased to be able to support her beloved St. Thomas Anglican Church. She is survived by her husband Robin; daughters, Cathy, Heather, and son Lorne (Jennifer). The oldest of ten children, she is also survived by brothers, Murray (Gladys); Sterling (Valerie); Dugal (Elizabeth); Fraser (Ola); Burnham (Marilyn); Sydney (Nancy); sisters, Madonna (Jack) Brown; Marcheta (Henry) Decker; Donis (Leo) Casavechia. Visitation will be held 1 to 2 p.m. on Monday, December 5, with funeral service to follow at 2 p.m., both in St. Thomas Anglican Church, Mooseland, Rev. Katherine Tait officiating. TAYLOR, Brother Donald - It is with great sadness that the Congregation of the Resurrection announces the sudden death at home of Brother Donald Taylor, C.R., on Wednesday, November 30th. He was in his 68th year, and 46th year of religious life. Brother Don was born in Sault Ste. Marie, son of the late Charles and Sarah (Johnson) Taylor. He will be missed by his sister Helen, brothers Alan, Maurice, Norman and Lorne, nieces and nephews, his religious community and many friends. Two brothers, Ed and Bill, predeceased him. Brother Don professed first vows in the Congregation of the Resurrection in 1961 and perpetual vows in 1966. He spent his entire ministry as a religious brother in the area of accounting. In 1961 he served briefly at St. Jerome's High School, then spent 16 years at North Bay College (Scollard Hall) where he served as treasurer. From 1977 to 1981 Brother Don worked in the accounting office of St. Jerome's College. In 1981 he was assigned Provincial Bursar and served in that capacity until his retirement in March, 2005. Brother Don had a great sense of humour and always had a joke to tell. He was a generous and thoughtful man, and volunteered for many years with the MS Society. He also enjoyed cooking for and entertaining friends. Visitation will be at Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, on Sunday, December 4 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., with a vigil for the deceased at 8:30 p.m. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Monday, December 5, 11 a.m. at St. Aloysius Parish, 11 Traynor Avenue, Kitchener, with Very Rev. Paul S. Voisin, C.R., Provincial Superior, presiding. Interment in Mount Hope Cemetery, Kitchener. TOWNSON, Constable Randall "Randy"- of Clive passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on November 18, 2005 at the age of 49 years. Randy was born in North Bay, Ontario, on June 1, 1956. He moved to Calgary, and in 1988, fulfilled his life-long dream of becoming a Royal Canadian Mounted Police. His first posting was in Provost and from there he was posted to Cardston. His final posting was in Red Deer where he has been for the past 10 years. Randy was an advocate for physical fitness. It was important to him to be in good shape. He liked woodcarving and clay figurines and he especially enjoyed travelling to hot countries all over the world. Most of all, Randy loved living in the country on an acreage with Sue and their dog, Rio. One of his favourite pastimes was gopher hunting on his acreage. Randy will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Constable Sue Godfrey, dearly missed by his mother, Dorothy Morton of Corbeil, Ontario, one brother, Timothy (Liz Loken) Townson, uncle Jamie Morton, Ontario, four nephews; Joshua and Matthew Brown of St. Catharine's, Ontario and Jamie and Jeffrey Townson of Ontario, one cousin, Liisa Morton of Ontario along with many other relatives. Randy will also be very sadly missed by his special pal, Rio. He was predeceased by his father, Lyle Townson and one brother, Terrance Jonathon Townson. Funeral Service was held at CrossRoads Church.
