Claude A. Robinette, Jr., aged 66, of Kentwood, passed away suddenly at his home Saturday, November 12, 2005. He was preceded in by his parents, Claude and Mary Robinette, Sr.; father-in-law, Egbert Selby; and brother-in-law, David Kelly. Surviving are his loving wife of 46 years, Nila; children, Steve (Angie) Robinette and Rhonda Robinette and fiancee Sam Martinez; grandchildren, Nicole and Steve Robinette, and Kaleb and Sierra Martinez; brother and sisters, Robert (Dott) Robinette, LaDonna O'Connor, and Mary Kelly all of Binghamton, NY; mother-in-law, Beatrice Selby of Chicago; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Cloyd (Pat) Selby, Ronnie (Gretchen) Selby, and Donnie (Gabrielle) Selby, all of the Chicago Area; many nieces and nephews; and his special little friend, Wiggles Robinette. PAXTON— Bernard A. Roy, 63, of 3 Camelot Dr., died on Sunday, November 13, in his home, after being stricken ill. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Stephanie J. (Mitchell) Roy; a daughter, Stephanie P. and her husband Jeffrey Ryan of Richmond, VA; his father, L. Alfred Roy of Worcester; a brother, Alfred L. Roy of West Dennis; two grandchildren Alden and Adrienne; several nephews and nieces. Mr. Roy was born in Worcester, son of Isabelle P. (Phaneuf) Roy. Mr. Roy served in the US Coast Guard. Bernie graduated from South High School and the New England Institute in 1963. He worked as a licensed funeral director at Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home from 1963 until his death and was the president and treasurer of Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home until 2004. Mr. Roy served in the United States Coast Guard. He was a member of the Harmony Club of Worcester, the Worcester Lodge of Elks #243 and the Main South American Legion Post. He was a car enthusiast who enjoyed riding his motorcycle and spending time with his pets. The funeral will be held on Thursday, November 17, from the Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Hammond St., Worcester with a Mass at 10 AM in Holy Name of Jesus Church, 53 Illinois St. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester. SPRINGFIELD - Katherine (Toole) Contant, 88, of Springfield, passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by her loving family, on Sunday, November 13, 2005. Born in Palmer, the daughter of John E. and Mary (Kennedy) Toole, she resided in Springfield for the past 79 years. She was predeceased by her devoted husband of 41 years, Robert J. Contant of Springfield who passed January 20, 1990, and her sister, Julia K. Walker of New Jersey. She is survived by her five children, Hon. Philip A. Contant of Springfield and his wife Elizabeth, Kathleen M. Murphy of Woodstock, VT and her husband David, Charles J. Contant of Springfield and his wife June, Martha E. Cahillane of Springfield and Elaine L. Contant of Lincoln, MA, and eleven grandchildren, Katie Plante and her husband T.J., Sarah Contant, John Contant, Robert V. Contant, Colleen Murphy, Michael Murphy, Sean Contant, Amy Contant, Kristen Cahillane, Michelle Cahillane and William Cahillane. She leaves her sister, Mary T. Hoyt of Naples, FL. She attended Springfield Public Schools, graduated from Cathedral High School, 1934 and Our Lady of the Elms, 1938. A professional woman, she taught in the Springfield Public Schools from October 1971 to June 1983, including White Street and Kensington Avenue Schools, and taught U.S. Citizenship Classes to newly arrived immigrants, a job she particularly enjoyed; during World War II, she worked at the former Moore Drop Forging Company. She was a longtime communicant of Holy Name Church in Springfield. She will be most remembered for her gracious and selfless demeanor, her endless love, dedication and support of her family; her wit, wisdom and knowledge of current affairs. Memories of Katherine will be treasured forever. Family and friends will meet for a Liturgy of Christian Burial on Thursday November 17th at 10 a.m. in Holy Name Church in Springfield followed by burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. MILLINOCKET - Louise D. Pineau, 90, passed away peacefully with her family by her side Sunday, Nov. 13, 2005, at a local healthcare facility. She was born Nov. 3, 1915, in Millinocket, the daughter of Joseph and Gertrude (Violette) Vienneau. Louise enjoyed many summers at her camp on South Twin Lake, spending time on her front porch enjoying the scenery and the birds. She is survived by her two sons and their spouses, John and Nancy Pineau of Millinocket and Byron and Suzanne Pineau of Colorado; three brothers, Martin Vienneau of California, Richard and his wife, Joan Vienneau, of New Hampshire, Francis and his wife, Kay Vienneau, of Millinocket; one sister, Edna Hayward of Connecticut; four grandchildren, Cori Pineau of Millinocket, Scott and his wfie, Vicki Pineau, of Saco, Shannon and her husband, Chris Fierro, of Colorado, Todd and his wife, Petra Pineau, of Texas; three great-grandchildren, Zachary, Mason and Farah, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Walter Pineau; seven siblings, Ernest Vienneau, Roland Vienneau, Patrick Vienneau, Harry Vienneau, Eugene Vienneau, Gerald Vienneau and Artline Guy. FLEMING, Joan Mary (nee Yates) In loving memory of Joan Mary Fleming (nee Yates), 84 years of age, who passed away at the Sudbury Regional Hospital - Laurentian Site on Thursday, October 27th, 2005. Beloved wife of Norman Fleming predeceased 2004. Joan was born in Birmingham, England and served in the Women's Royal Naval Service during World War II. she was married to Norman in 1946. They emigrated to Canada with their two children in 1959. Joan was a devoted wife, and mother who will be sadly missed by her two sons, Raymond of Toronto, and Douglas of Sudbury. SCHUYLERVILLE -- Eva M. Cromie, 98, a former Schuylerville resident, died Sunday, Nov. 13, 2005, at the Maplewood Manor Nursing Home in Ballston Spa after a long illness.Born Sept. 17, 1907, in Schuylerville, she was the daughter of Eli and Leonie LeBrun Seney. Eva attended school in Northumberland and St. Bridget's Academy in Watervliet, and graduated from the Wilfred Academy of Cosmetology in New York City. She was the proprietress of a beauty parlor in Green Island and later owned and operated the Bon Marche beauty shop in Schuylerville. For a time, she worked with her parents in running a grocery store and ice cream stand on North Broadway in Schuylerville. She was very proud that her father had helped build the present Notre Dame-Visitation Church.After becoming widowed at 32, Eva was taught to paint by her husband's aunt and really enjoyed giving her art work to family. Some were on display in various storefronts during the 1970's. Eva enjoyed all types of music and was an accomplished piano player, which she taught herself by ear.She was a communicant of Notre Dame-Visitation Church in Schuylerville and was a member of the St. Anne/Rosary Society of the Church. She also was a member of the Court Stella Maris Catholic Daughters of America and had been a 4-H leader in Schuylerville for many years. She was a former vice-president of the local and county Ladies Auxiliary American Legion and was responsible for raising the enrollment to an all-time high in both. In later years, she was a member of the Old Saratoga Seniors and was a council member for the Office of the Aging.Eva was a very loving and caring mother, and her greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren, to whom she was a very devoted Mom. She was most happy when she was able to be of assistance to anyone in need.Eva was much loved for all who cared for her at Maplewood Manor, where she had made her home for nearly four years. They all said she was a joy to have around and never once asked for assistance of any kind. She will be sadly missed by all her family and many friends.In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, William Cromie Jr.; a daughter, A. Sharon Durkin; a son-in-law, Robert Hydock; and her 14 siblings.Survivors include two daughters, Lois Miner and her husband, Harrison, of Schuylerville and E. Dawn Anderson and her husband, Richard, of South Glens Falls; a son, William N. Cromie III and his wife, Jeanne, of Bechtelsville, Pa.; a son-in-law, Philip Durkin; eight grandchildren, Jan Holland, Keith Miner, Judi Merchant, Robert, James, Edward and Glenn Hydock, Dawn E. Pecorelli, Laura Highsmith, Michael Durkin and Melissa Durkin-Markus; four step-grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.A funeral mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m.Wednesday, November 16, 2005 at Notre Dame-Visitation Church with the Rev. Katherine La Fond -- For a Depression-era salary of $100 month, Katherine La Fond found her niche in a male domain at Scripps Institution of Oceanography.Hired to analyze the salinity of seawater, she began a career in marine chemistry and oceanography that would take her throughout the world and result in 38 published scientific papers.Her first research papers, presented in 1934 to the American Association for the Advancement of Science in Berkeley, resulted from her work as one of the first woman employed by Scripps on a research vessel." She had a pioneering spirit, " said her son, William. " One of the happiest days of her life was when she said goodbye to her mother at 17 and lived on her own and studied in Germany. "Mrs. La Fond, whose career in marine science paralleled that of her late husband, Eugene, died of heart failure Oct. 29 at Scripps Mercy Hospital. She was 95." She lived independently until the day she died, " her son said.Although she never received a college degree, Mrs. La Fond was able to land a job at the San Diego Zoo in 1932 after studying chemistry at San Diego State College and bacteriology at Mercy Hospital.Assigned to the poultry laboratory, Mrs. La Fond also volunteered in the zoo hospital as an aide to veterinarian Dr. Charles Schroeder, the future zoo director. One of her duties was assisting in animal surgeries.She removed cataracts from the eyes of a bear and helped mend the injured paw of a tiger.But it was her work as a chemist, including preparing tissue samples for microscopic examination, that led to the job at Scripps in 1933. She set up a chemistry lab on the Scripps ' research vessel and took water samples on cruises.Her boyfriend and future husband, San Diego State graduate Eugene La Fond, followed her to Scripps at her suggestion. At first, he accepted a nonpaying job as a technical assistant.Later, he would photograph research projects and contribute charts and illustrations to " The Oceans: Their Physics, Chemistry and General Biology, " the first modern textbook on oceanography.In 1935, on a vacation to Colorado, the La Fonds defied a Scripps nepotism policy by marrying.Keeping their marriage secret, they returned to Scripps and lived at separate cottages on opposite ends of the campus.In 1936, they moved to Berkeley so that Eugene could attend graduate school. Putting her career on hold to raise a family, Mrs. La Fond didn ' t return to marine science until 1952 after her husband received a Fulbright Grant.The family moved to the Far East, and Mrs. La Fond helped her husband start the first oceanography department in India at Andhra University. She became one of the rare women educators in the country when she taught a university class in measuring salinity.In the 1960s, after several years lecturing and promoting oceanography internationally, she joined her husband and 37 other male scientists on a project for the International Indian Ocean Expedition.The project involved collecting biological-oceanographic data in the Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea.From 1970 to 1987, Mrs. La Fond assisted her husband in his capacity as secretary of the International Association for the Physical Sciences of the Oceans. The work sent them to such destinations as China, Ghana, Russia, Germany, Brazil and Mexico.During the Vietnam War, Mrs. La Fond and her husband researched harbors in Vietnam at the request of the U.S. Navy. " They were so close to the action they could hear (the shooting), " William La Fond said.Based on her career accomplishments, Mrs. La Fond received the Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1981 from San Diego State University ' s College of Sciences.The honor was given despite the fact Mrs. La Fond left the school, based at the time on Park Boulevard, after two years.Katherine Gehring La Fond, the daughter of a physician and a nurse, was born Oct. 19, 1910, in Oklahoma City, Okla.Her mother, an independent spirit in her own right, had come to the United States from her native England at 16 to study nursing. Mrs. La Fond moved to San Diego with her family at age 9. Her parents separated several times during her childhood, eventually divorcing. " At that time, she became a boarding student at The Bishop ' s School in La Jolla, " William La Fond said.Mrs. La Fond was among a graduating class of 17 in 1928. Because of her German heritage, she was excited about spending the next two years in Berlin.Living with the family of a widow, she attended the University of Berlin ' s Institute for Foreigners and became fluent in German." She later passed a rigorous exam that entitled her to attend any German university, " William La Fond said.Instead, Mrs. La Fond returned home to attend San Diego State.From 1947 until her husband ' s death in December 2002, Mrs. La Fond lived in a three-bedroom home in Ocean Beach, where she and her husband raised two sons.Seeking a new environment and new friends as a widow, she moved to Casa de Ma ana, a retirement residence in La Jolla. She particularly liked Casa de Ma ana ' s proximity to The Bishop ' s School, the origin of many lifelong friendships.In the summer of 2002, Mrs. La Fond was the oldest person to attend the school ' s 77th reunion, William La Fond said.Survivors include her sons, William of Ocean Beach and Robert of Vista; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.A celebration of life is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday at The Bishop ' s School, La Jolla. HIGH SPRINGS, Fla. -- Lynda J. (Cailler) Howe, 60, of High Springs, former Dracut resident and a foster mother, died Sunday, Nov. 13, after a three-year battle with breast cancer. She was the wife of Donald W. Howe, to whom she was married for 40 years. She was born in Lowell, Oct. 2, 1945, daughter of Sheldon F. and Lea (Perron) Cailler. She graduated from Dracut High School in 1963.She lived in Florida for the past 20 years. She previously lived in Oklahoma, Connecticut and Massachusetts.She enjoyed walking on the beach, fishing with her family, collecting seashells and spending time with her grandchildren.While in Miami, she was a proud foster mother and cared for many different children.For the past 12 years, Mrs. Howe worked at Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart in Miami.She was a member of St. Madeleine Church in High Springs for the past seven months. She was a former member of St. John Neumann Church in Miami for 20 years.Family members recall her heart of gold, she enjoyed people and she always made a point of trying to make people feel special.Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jason and Tricia of High Springs, and Edward of Miami; a daughter-in-law, Martha Howe of Wilmington; three grandchildren, Emily, Amanda and Kayla; a brother and sister-in-law, Sheldon and Donna Cailler of Wyandotte, Okla.; two nieces, Debbie and Shelley; and a nephew, Steve.She was also the mother of the late Chester Howe.

Spotsylvania County, Va. - Robert Paul "Bob" Delagrange, 71, of Spotsylvania County, Va., died Friday, Nov. 11, 2005, at Mary Washington Hospital.Mr. Delagrange was born in New London, on Dec. 5, 1933.He served in the Air Force and played on the Misawa Japan Air Force Base football team in the mid 1950's.He was a graduate of California State, Northridge.
