CULLEN, Norman Stanley. Born in Allan's Corners, Quebec, on February 24, 1925, Norman passed away peacefully at his home in North Saanich, British Columbia on November 7, 2005. He is predeceased by his son Brian; parents James and Grace and brothers Neil, William and Hugh. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-two years, Francoise; daughter Michele Russell (Brian); sons Wayne (Louise), Giles (Christina) and Ronald. He is also survived by two sisters: Jean Goodall, of Allan's Corners, Quebec and Ethel Thompson of Toronto and brothers Maxwell (Sadie), Robert (Barbara) and Harry (Jean) and five grandchildren: Mieke, Connor, Brenna, Griffin and Teagan as well as many nephews, nieces and related family. The family wishes to extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Gordon Henderson for his vigilant care and help in managing Norman's illness and also to the community nurses Jennifer, Kathy and Lynn for their compassion and the excellent palliative home care they provided. At his request, Norman's ashes will be taken to the family plot at the Presbyterian Church in Georgetown, Quebec, and laid to rest next to his son, Brian. At a later date, a memorial service will be held for family and friends in Georgetown. With his easy and likeable nature, Norman touched many people in his life. OLIVER, Clarence. Clarence C. Oliver (Charlie) passed away on Friday, November 4, 2005 at the Father Dowd Residence at the age of eighty-nine, after a courageous battle with cancer and congestive heart failure. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary S. Oliver (nee Williams) and infant son, Ian. Charlie is survived by his children Joan, John, Doris, Gladys, Cherie, Sheila, Andrew, Frankie, Alberta, Roberta, Beverly, Gail, Dale, Carl, and Calvin; thirty-five grandchildren, and thirty-eight great-grandchildren; and his one sister, Pearl Oliver, of Boston, Mass. Also survived by many dear nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. The family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff on the second floor at Father Dowd, for taking excellent care of our father while in their care. Richard Douglas Courtemanche -- Of Austin TX, 36, died on November 5, 2005 of a gunshot wound self-inflicted at the Barton Creek greenbelt in Austin, TX. He was the beloved son of Betty Courtemanche of Natick, MA and Bob Courtemanche of Dover, MA. Richard was larger than life, fatally flawed and could light up a room with his smile. He received an MBA from the Sloan School of Business at MIT, a BA from Babson College and prior to that served in the United States Marine Corps, earning an honorable discharge. He worked primarily in the investment business, beginning at Putnam Investments in Boston, later at the Dresdner Bank in London and finally as a self employed futures trader. During his short life, Richard lived in Massachusetts, Sicily, Okinawa, London, San Diego and Austin. Austin, he said, was the place he could be himself. He was a masterful story-teller and one of those rare individuals people gravitated towards. He suffered from bipolar disorder and alcoholism. His family will always remember him for the joy, comfort and solace he could bring to others despite his own excruciating inner turmoil. Richard loved nature, his dogs, solving a problem and laughing with friends. He was surrounded by family and love when his life-support system was disconnected in the intensive care unit and he passed. Richard is survived by his loving parents; his brother Ted Courtemanche and his wife Deana of Greensboro, NC; his fiancee Christine Baranda of San Diego, CA; his uncle Edward Zaleckas, Jr. of Feasterville, PA; and his boxers Daisy and Zak who will live with his mother in Natick, MA. There will be visiting hours on Saturday, November 12 from 4-5:00 pm at the John Everett and Sons Funeral Home located at 4 Park St on the Common in NATICK, MA. A service will immediately follow at 5:00 pm. KNIGHT, James Chaplin (Jimmie) - The captain of the Appointment II has gone peacefully to see his navigator (Dorothy Knight, nee Cheverie) and has pulled into his final port on Sunday November 6, 2005 surrounded by his family in his 64th year. He will be sadly missed by his partner Ann Bibby and her family. Also fondly remembered by his children Angela (Paul van Schaayk) and James (Treena Palangio). He will also be sadly missed by his mother Isabell Knight and the late James L. Knight of Parry Sound, by all his brothers Charlie (Rose) of Sarnia, Ted (Cathy) of Parry Sound, Robert (Holly) of Toronto and Donald of Georgian Bay and all his nieces, nephews, family members and friends. Jimmie was an avid fisherman who could always be found on 'the spot' on Lake Nipissing. He also enjoyed boating, hunting, snowmobiling and traveling abroad. He was past president of the Kinsmen and Rotary Clubs of North Bay, an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 23, Masonic Lodge and Shrine Club. CRASWELL, ROLAND THOMAS - Surrounded by his loving family, at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, NB on November 8, 2005, Mr. Roland Thomas Craswell, husband of the late Margaret ('Peggy') Alverna (Young) Craswell, of Campbellton and formerly of Blacks Harbour, NB. Born in Campbellton on April 6, 1936, he was a son of the late Calvin and Audrey (Irving) Craswell. A loving and caring father and grandfather who was a 'best friend' to his family and friends, Roland is survived by three daughters, Bonnie (Brian) Johnson of Blacks Harbour, Kathy (Phillip) Hatt of Rollingdam and Jackie (Paul) Hatt of Halifax, NS; one son, Joey (Dianne) Craswell of L'Etang; adopted son, Michael; foster daughter, Frances (Ricky) Winters of Bonny River; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Geraldine (Fred) Johnston of Fredericton and Marie (Billy) Falls of Quebec. He was predeceased, besides his wife and parents, by a son, Thomas; a daughter, Janice and a brother, Alvin Craswell. Roland was an Industrial Mechanic for Connors Bros. Ltd., Can & Cover Division for 35 years. He was a member of the Blacks Harbour Curling Club. He was an avid hockey fan who followed the Silver Kings and the Fundy High Mariners Hockey Teams through many seasons. He loved traveling and spending time with his family. He also loved his truck and plow. Resting at the St. George Funeral Home, (755-3533), 26 Portage Street, St. George, NB with visiting on Thursday from 3-5 and 7-9 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 pm Friday from St. George's Roman Catholic Church, followed by interment in St. George's Catholic Church Cemetery. WATERVILLE -- Blanche Olive (Cote) Cotta, 89, of Waterville, died Monday, Nov. 7, 2005. Born in Waterville, she was the daughter of the late Oliver and Adeline (Fortier) Cote. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Gerald; daughter Beverly; seven sisters and a brother.She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Clair Cotta of Waterville; two sons, Joseph Cotta of Delaware and Colby Cotta of California; three daughters, Brenda Rock of Connecticut, Patricia Susca of Connecticut and Mary Boyer of Texas; one sister, Rita Lewis of Waterville; also 12 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. She will be dearly missed by all who loved her. A private family graveside service shall be held at Pine Grove Cemetery in Waterville. There will be no calling hours. Mr. William McDowall May 14, 1913 - November 08, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Atlantic Funeral Home (Dartmouth) McDOWALL, William "Bill" - 92, Dartmouth, passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 8, 2005, in The Berkeley, Dartmouth. Born May 14, 1913, in Delson, Que., he was a son of the late James and Annie (Walker) McDowall. Up until the end, Bill demonstrated his zest for life and his good humour as well as his love of family and friends. Bill became a proud member of the 2nd Field Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery, and served in Italy as a medic for five years during the Second World War. His dedication to country and sense of camaraderie with fellow veterans were major focal points of his life. At the end of the war Bill and his family moved to St. Lambert, Que., and later to St. Bruno, Que., where he retired after 25 years of service with the Bank of Montreal. In 1980, "Pop" became a full-fledged Maritimer, taking up residence in Halifax/Dartmouth and the Annapolis Valley (Wolfville and Hall's Harbour). He was an active participant in all of the communities in which he lived, joining the North British Society, Masonic Lodge, Royal Canadian Legion and local lawn bowling and curling clubs. He was an enthusiastic supporter of the arts and music was a major part of the McDowall Clan's life. His over 50 years in the tenor section of numerous church choirs, including St. Matthews United, Halifax, was a particular source of pride and joy. Bill was predeceased by his first wife of 42 years, Elizabeth Jane (Blyth); second wife of 20 years, Frances Carmen (Boyle-Morton); sisters, Mary and Bette; brother, Bob; sister-in-law, Olive Forbes-Smith. He is survived by daughter, Heather (Gerry) Mahar; grandchildren, Kathy (Duane) Rudge, David (Sarah) Mahar, Shannon Mahar; great-grandson, Jakob Mahar; brother, Jim; brother-in-law, Peter Blyth; sister-in-law, Ruth McDowall; numerous nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces. A memorial service celebrating Bill's life will be held at 3 p.m. Friday in St. Matthew's United Church, 1479 Barrington St., Halifax. Rev. Dr. I. Ross Bartlett officiating. Reception to follow in the church hall. Private family interment will be held in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens at a later date. Family flowers only. MOORE, ANDREW - The death of Andrew "Andy" Moore, 58, of Saint John, NB, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Wednesday, November 9, 2005 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John, Andy was a son of the late J. Hawley and Selina (Wagner) Moore. He was employed for several years as a photo-engraver at the Telegraph Journal and recently employed with NCO. Andy enjoyed harness racing and was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed trips to Florida and the South Shore of Nova Scotia. He was predeceased by his sister, Charlotte McKim. Andy will be sadly missed by all who knew him. MILLBURY— Scott W. Bernier, a life long resident of 35 Sycamore St., died Tuesday, Nov. 8th in St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester. He leaves a sister, Cynthia A. Lemieux of Millbury; his father, Roger R. Bernier of Brewster; two brothers, Michael R. Webber of La Vegas, NV and Roger M. Bernier of Lehigh Acres, FL ; a niece, Cheryl A. Protzeller and a nephew, Kurt A. Bernier; uncles and aunts. He was born in Worcester, son of the late Lorraine M. (Saucier) Bernier. He graduated from Holy Name Central Catholic High School in 1977 and then enlisted in the US Navy, where he served four years in Newport, R.I. and four years in California. Scott was an apprentice chef at the Worcester Club for a year. He then worked at Bob Bonin’s Ground Round in Shrewsbury for ten years and was a school bus driver for the town of Millbury for 8 years. He was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Church, including a member of the church’s choir, it’s men’s vesper choir, the former bingo committee, the Mustard Seed Committee and an associate member of the Sisters of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. He was a member of the American Legion Devoe-Taylor Post and a member of the Millbury Lions Club and served as chairman of the club’s Journey for Sight and he received the Joseph J. Camarda Fellowship Award and the club’s Lion of the Year Award 2004-2005. He enjoyed cooking and Scarborough Beach. His funeral will be held Saturday, Nov. 12th from Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St., Millbury, with a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 10 Waters St., Millbury. Burial will be in Central Cemetery. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11th, in the funeral home. The Millbury Lions Club will meet at 7:15 p.m. Friday for prayers. Yvonne Forbes Yvonne Forbes, 69, of Moncton passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2005 at the Dr. Georges-L. Dumont Hospital. Born September 11, 1936 in Moncton, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Helena (Gould) Roy. She retired in 1988 as owner/operator of Forbes Special Care Home in Dieppe. Yvonne was a member of St. Bernard's C.W.L. for the past 40 years and of the pastoral care ministry, the Knights of Columbus Council 1310 Ladies Auxillary, and a 40 year member of Royal Canadian Legion, Moncton Branch No. 6 Ladies Auxillary. She is survived by two sons, Randall MacDonald (Linda) and Daniel (Linda) both of Winnipeg; two step-daughters, Karen (Ray) of Wasaga Beach, ON, Martine (Jean-Marie) of Paris, France; two step-sons, William Forbes (Patty) of B.C., Greg Forbes (Fran) of Chipman, NB; four sisters, Rose Goguen and Anna "Sally" Calder (late Ernie) both of Pte-du-Chène, Rita LeBlanc (Alcide) of Moncton, Shirley Bourque (late Tony) of Dieppe; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a special niece, Gisèle Bourque; many nieces, and nephews. Mr. Neal Douglas Deegan April 02, 1941 - November 08, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Atlantic Funeral Home (Halifax) DEEGAN, Neal Douglas "Pat" - It is with great regret to announce that Pat Deegan of Halifax died November 8, 2005, in QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax, after a valiant battle with heart disease, at the age of 64. Pat was born in Truro, April 2, 1941, and was raised in Alberta and Yellowknife, N.W.T. In 1960, he left home to join the navy in Halifax. Shortly thereafter, he met the love of his life, Marilyn Snair, whom he married in 1965. In 1971, Pat graduated from St. Mary's University with a Bachelor of Education degree and began a teaching career that spanned 22 years. Pat was the proud father of daughters, Diana (Gordie) Lawlor and Christina Deegan. He was a dedicated and loving "Grampy" to Robyn and Julia Lawlor. Pat was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Marguerite "Reta" Deegan. He will be missed by his brother, Michael (June) Deegan, and his sister, Mary (Cam) Soucy. Pat was a proud man and enjoyed his family, friends, challenges and opportunities. He loved to travel, participate in curling and golfing and he loved movies. Pat was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Fairview Branch. He valued family and kept in close contact with his brother and sister. He took great pleasure in political debates with his brother. Pat will be greatly missed but not forgotten. LACONIA — M. Louise Beaudoin, 98, of 406 Court St. and formerly of 88 Summer St. died Monday afternoon, Nov. 7, 2005, at St. Francis Health Care Center in Laconia.She was born on Dec. 18, 1906, in Disraeli, Quebec, the daughter of the late Louis A. and Adelia (Frechette) Boulanger. She had lived here since 1924.She was an 80-year communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Laconia, and a member of the Ladies of Sacred Heart. She was also a member of the l'Association Canado Americaine.She was an accomplished seamstress, and worked for several years at Henry's Dry Cleaner's doing alterations, as well as many ladies' dress shops in Laconia. Louise truly enjoyed her garden with her husband, and had a great love for flowers.She was predeceased by her husband, Edgar J. Beaudoin, in 1982, and by a brother, Archelas Boulanger, in 1989.Survivors include two nephews, Robert Boulanger and his wife Anne of Bristol, and Roger Boulanger of Venice, Fla.; two nieces, Marie A.
