JORDAN, HERBERT (HERB) HOOPER The passing of Herbert (Herb) Hooper Jordan of Fredericton, NB occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital on Thursday, October 20, 2005. Born August 7, 1919 at Franklin, Maine, USA, he was the eldest of seven children born to Carolyn (Hooper) and Leamon Jordan. He graduated from high school in Franklin, Maine; Farmington Teachers College and studied at Hussen Business College in Bangor, Maine. Following U.S. Army service in WWII, he settled in Lincoln, Nebraska where he found his niche in Real Estate. He lived there for 25 years before retiring to Ellsworth, Maine. There he developed Green Lake Vacation Cottages and built Oak Terrace Apartments in Ellsworth. Herb was a member of Benevolent Protection Order of Elks (BPOE) for 40 years. He was predeceased by his first wife Aubrey and brothers Donald, Gilbert, Langdon and Carrol. Survived by his wife Phyllis (Scova) Jordan; sisters, Hildred Jordan (Benjamin) and Arbine Gardiner (William); stepdaughter, Karon Croll (Jim); stepson, Reigh Sweezey (Elaine); brother-in-law Reigh Eldridge (Lois) sister-in-law, Jean Betuik (John); special niece and nephew, Claire and Len MacFarlane; step grandchildren, Kyle and Kassia Sweezey and special friend Shawn McCann.No visitation by request. Burial will be held privately at a later date. MAPPLEBECK, RETA - Reta Blanche Mapplebeck (nee Howe) passed away at her residence October 23, 2005 Loch Lomond Villa, after a lengthy illness. She was the wife of the late Eric Mapplebeck and daughter of the late Herbert and Margaret (Noddin) Howe. Reta worked in the City Market as a Clerk and later owner of Slocum and Ferris where her many customers appreciated her happy personality. On her retirement the then Mayor of Saint John "Elsie Wayne" presented her with a scroll nominating her "Honorary Deputy Market Clerk". Reta was a faithful member of Tabernacle United Baptist Church at Haymarket Square involved in many areas of God's work there. A member of the Choir, Sunday School, Mission Circle, social committee, also a life member of the U.B.W.M.U. After retirement she volunteered at "Hair Care" Saint John Regional Hospital receiving a pin of acknowledgement at that time. Reta has always been a kind and loving person even through many trials she always had a smile. Surviving are two sisters Mrs. Thelma Exkstrom and Mrs. Helen Fry; many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by two brothers Owen Howe and Gordon Howe; sister Mrs. Grace Steeves; and infant siblings. McGILVRAY, JAMES ROSS - The death of James Ross McGilvray of Saint John, NB, husband of the late Elizabeth Maltby, occurred on Monday, October 24, 2005 at Ridgewood Veteran's Wing. Born in Amherst, NS, he was a son of the late Edward and Anne (McKeowan) McGilvray. Ross worked as a manager for Atlantic Wholesalers in Saint John and was manager of the Penny Saver Supermarket in St. Stephen, NB, before his retirement in 1986. He was a member of Thistle-St. Andrews Curling Club, a member of the United Commercial Travelers and was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion: Lancaster Branch. He served overseas during WWII with the Cape Breton Highlanders and the First Special Service Force where he was recently presented with the prestigious Combat Infantry Medal. Survived by his daughter, Gloria Goodwin (Ray) of Edmonton, AB; one son: Gregory McGilvray of Alburqueque, New Mexico; one sister: Ava Knight of Moncton, NB; two granddaughters: Shelly Goodwin-Kincaid (Reuben) and Jody Goodwin, both of Edmonton, AB; one great-granddaughter: Olivia Kincaid; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers: Reece, Phillip and Earl Kitchner McGilvray, sisters: Sylva Aldrich and Glory Scott, one grandson: Todd Goodwin. Donald Strath October 13, 1923 - October 24, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Chapel Lawn Funeral Home It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, and friend. On Oct 24, 2005 Don passed away peacefully at St. Boniface Hospital with family at his side. Don will be deeply missed by his wife Jerry of 58 years; his sons Michael (Kathy), Russell (Shellie); and daughters Cheryle (Sheldon), Heather (Don), Penny and Cindy and by his grandchildren Ken (Tanya), Mark (Ashley) Kayla, Jessie, Danielle, Eddy, Dakota, Kareena, Teresa, Joel, Shaun, Matthew, along with three great grandchildren, Marisa, Connor, Alexis. During Don’s lifetime, he served in World War II. His career was with the Department of Transportation. Don was involved in following hobbies such as Toastmasters, President of a Swimming Club, officiating as a Timer during swim meets plus two of his favorite passions, an avid amateur radio operator and his love for horses. Don’s retirement years were spent on his acreage just outside of Ste. Anne. F. Harley Ells January 13, 1928 - October 25, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Campbell's Funeral Home F. Harley Ells age 77 of Fenwick passed away on Tuesday, October 25, 2005 surrounded by his loving family at Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Upper Nappan. Born in Port Greville, Cumberland Co., he was a son of the late Captain Arthur H. and Margaret (Dowe) Ells. He was a member of the North Nova Scotia Highlanders for many years retiring as a Warrant Officer. Harley was employed at Enamel Heating for many years until his retirement. He enjoyed hunting, biking, Darts, Horseshoes and spending time at his summer cottage with his family. Harley is survived by his wife the former Kathleen Ripley, one daughter Signa (Paul) Nickerson of Moncton NB; two sons Lindsay (Judy) of Millbrook, Pictou Co., NS, and Kevin (Sandra) of Belnan Hants Co., NS; one brother Douglas (June) of Musquash NB; Six grandchildren Mark, Stephanie, Justin, Jillian, Amara and Olivia; four great grandchildren Kelsea, Emma, Mackenzie and Allysa; many nieces and nephews. Auger, Mary P. age 74, of Tower, MN, died Mon., Oct. 24, 2005, in Duluth. She was born Mar 3, 1931 in Kansas City, KS, the daughter of Thomas and Lilian Welch. She was a 1948 graduate of St. Francis School in Little Falls. On Jan. 27, 1952 she married Duane Auger. In the early 90's they retired to the Tower area. Mary loved the lake. She will be deeply missed by her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Duane; children, Merton (Barbara) of Buffalo, MN, Murray of Eagan, MN, Marcia (Mark) Harff of Champlin, MN, and Debra (James) Gillach of Albertville, MN; grandchildren, Michael, Kristine, Laurie, Stephanie, Ryan, Jamie, Alex, Tanner, Mary, and Josephine; and a sister, Suzanne (Rodney) Dachel of Golden Valley. Dorothy McFarlane (née Burke) Funeral arrangements by Desjardins Funeral Chapel DOROTHY McFARLANE (Nee BURKE) Dorothy, wife of the late Frank McFarlane, peacefully passed away on Sunday October 23, 2005, at Jocelyn House at the age of 81 years. Dorothy is survived by her sons Gene and Ben (Sharon), her grandchildren Sean (Selena) and Dawn (Josh) as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Frank and son Billy. Dorothy was born in Minot, North Dakota and was raised in Winnipeg. She joined the Royal Canadian Air Forces (W.D.’s) in 1942. Dorothy and Frank met while working for CN Rail in 1948 and were happily married in 1950. Dorothy raised her children in Winnipeg and worked as a waitress, who was well-known as “Dot”. A large part of her career was spent working at the Airliner. Approaching her retirement Dorothy became involved with the R.C.A.F. (W.D.’s) Women’s Auxiliary and the Royal Canadian Legion where she devoted many hours of volunteer support. Dorothy made many friends through the Christian Fellowship Chapel and enjoyed her time spent with the Chapel’s senior’s group and family support members. Special friend Anne Miller since 1972 shared many good times and supported Dorothy and the family through many hardships. A special thank-you to the staff of Jocelyn House for their care and compassion. At Dorothy’s request, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 27, 2005, at 10:00 a;m. at the Christian Fellowship Chapel, 465 Osborne Street, with Pastor Alan Dueck officiating. Interment of the cremated remains will take place at Brookside Cemetery. June Black August 01, 1926 - October 21, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Chapel Lawn Funeral Home Our family is so very sad to announce the passing of our dear Mom, Grandma, and Great Grandma June. It is with such sadness our last goodbyes were said on October 21, 2005 at the Grace General Hospital after a brief and sudden illness. She was surrounded by her loving family who will miss her so very dearly. June was predeceased by her devoted husband George. Mom is lovingly remember by her three daughters: Bettie Fraser (Bob), Pattie Hopke (Raymond), and Maureen Spadano (Ben); her four grandchildren: Kevin (Carm), Tim, Jamie (Pam) and Ben and great grandchild Ryan. She will be greatly missed by her sisters Bettie Wagstaff and Margaret Hollingshead. Special little puppy ‘Moppy’ (“BeeBee”) will miss Mom as well. Mom cherished the friendship she shared with her dear friends, especially Eileen and Dorothy. With Mom as chauffeur she and her friends shared many wonderful days together on their trips to Neepawa and many other locations. Mom was a life long sports fan and enjoyed watching CNN. Mom enjoyed her bingo and cards with her dear friends. Her knowledge of current Canadian and American politics was extensive and Mom was aware of every breaking news story. Mom, we will miss you so very much for your true devotion to us all. Your sense of humour will remain with us always as we think back on the many happy times we all shared. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to Cancer Care Manitoba. Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held Thursday, October 26th at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home Memorial Gardens. LEMAY, SHAUNA (ROGERS) 1957 - 2005. A memorial service for Shauna Deen (Rogers) LeMay will be at 8 p.m. on Saturday Oct. 29, 2005, at First Christian Church in downtown Portland at the corner of Columbia and Park. Shauna was born June 24, 1957, and passed on Oct. 12, 2005, peacefully at her home in Portland after enduring trials of a relentless cancer. She spent many years traveling and working at various occupations, mostly in restaurants and banks prior to marrying Robert H. LeMay on March 3, 1989. They lived in Chewelah, Wash., until she and Robert moved in 1991 to a remote area along the Coquille River, in Coquille, where they enjoyed peace, serenity and fellowship at Fairview Community Church till 1997 at which time Robert passed of complications arising from leukemia. Shauna then to moved Roseburg where she enrolled into the nursing program at Umpqua Community College. A year before graduating she moved back to Portland and worked at OHSU 7-CVA as a certified nurse's assistant, always planning to return to school. Her co-workers recognized her incredible compassion, grace and dignity and encouraged her with her studies. She obtained her license as a practical nurse in December 2003. Shauna was to return to school in September to finish her final terms in nursing, but that was not to be. Shauna's outward beauty was as stunning and natural as her inner beauty. She was quiet and reserved, but quick to respond to injustice with integrity and steadfastness. She also had a gift for creating lovely and calming living environments. She loved gardening, especially fragrant flowers and herbs. Animals were a big part of her life, they loved her as much as she loved them. She is survived by sons, Mathew LeMay and wife, Jessica, of Central Point, Gabriel Lemay of Eugene; daughters, Harmony LeMay of Jacksonville Fla., Myra Cerveny and husband, Chris, of Bremerton Wash.; three grandchildren, Mathew Robert, Ezra Robert, Otto Gene, plus two more who will make their entrance into this world in a few months; brother, Stanford Rogers and niece, Michelle of Vancouver Wash.; her stepfather, Stanley Rogers also of Vancouver, and two very special sisters of the heart, Cathy Dicker of Portland, and Linda Swanson of Jacksonville, Fla. She was preceded in death by her mother, Beverly (Gannon) Rogers; father, Milton Cox; and as afore mentioned, her husband, Robert H. LeMay. Shauna was loved by so many and an inspiration beyond her knowing prior to and during her extended illness, trusting in her Heavenly Father for all things. A special commendation to Hospice of St. Vincent's for their wonderful support and insight. Also, the family and care givers wish to extend heartfelt thanks to her co-workers from Roseburg and OHSU for their many generous gifts, thoughtful cards, meals, and visits. It must be true that a person is known by the company they keep, because you have all been most thoughtful, kind, patient, caring, generous and compassionate, just like Shaun na na. NEWBURYPORT, MA - Raymond Michael Lavoie, 57, of Turkey Hill Rd. died suddenly Sunday Morning at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Ma. Born in Amesbury, Ma. on Sept. 10, 1948, he was the son of the late Raymond Lavoie and Marguerite Leathers Lavoie. He was the husband Cecilia (Orszulak) Lavoie. He attended N. Reading schools and was a graduate of NRHS with the class of 1966. He furthered his education both before and after his time spent in the army by attending and recieving a nursing degree at Northeastern Univirsity. A veteran of the Viet Nam war, he served in the US Army as a warrant officer and helicopter pilot. Shot down during combat, he recieved the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Bronze Star, and the Purple Heart for bravery. Following active duty, he served as an instructor pilot at Ft. Rucker Alabama. He recently completed his 24th year of employment at the Lahey Clnic and was recently working as an I.V. infusion nurse. Beside his wife, he is survived by two sons, Patrick M. Lavoie and wife Nicole of Madison, Wisconsin, and Daniel M. Lavoie of Anchorage, Alaska, one daughter, Rachel M. Lavoie of Brookline, Ma., two brothers, Robert Lavoie and wife Nancy and William Lavoie and wife Beth Collopy Lavoie all of Amesbury, two sisters, Margery Young and husband Dale of E. Kingston, NH. and Anne Pepin of Salem, NH., one grandson, Christopher M. Lavoie, his brothers and sisters in laws, Sylvester and Irene Orszulak of Ware, Ma., Joan an Paul Zawalick of Florence, Ma., Fred an Barbara Orszulak of Three Rivers, Ma., and Florence and Lawrence Kiszka of Newburyport, and many Nieces, Nephews, great Nieces and nephews, and many cousins. His funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday Oct. 27 at 11:00 am at the Immaculate Conception Church on Green St. in Newburyport, Ma. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Anna Kathleen (Madden) Sloane Anna Kathleen Sloane of Grass Nursing Home, Riverview, formerly of Hillsborough, passed away on Saturday, October 22, 2005 at The Moncton Hospital. Anna was born in Campbellton, the daughter of the late Daniel and Jennieve (Squibb) Madden. Mrs. Marguerite Thomas-Parent (née Slawter) April 26, 1926 - October 21, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Atlantic Funeral Home (Dartmouth) THOMAS-PARENT, Marguerite "Mamma" - 79, Dartmouth, went to sleep in the arms of her Lord and Saviour on Friday, October 21, 2005, in the New Halifax Infirmary, QEII, Halifax. Born April 26, 1926, in East Preston, she was a daughter of the late James and Inez (Crawley) Slawter. She was predeceased by first husband, James A. Thomas. She raised her large family on her own and married again after the last child was grown. Marguerite was also predeceased by son, Ervin Thomas; daughter, Valerie Thomas Hodges, and goddaughter, Velma Thomas-Kane. Marguerite was an active member of Victoria Road Baptist Church, serving as Chairperson of the Social Committee of the Ladies Auxiliary and was a member of the seniors group. She was past superintendent of the Sunday school and Chair of the Anniversary Committee and the Flower Committee. Marguerite's Christian service and journey of faith began in her first church, East Preston Baptist, where she was a founding member of the Women's Missionary Society, a member of the Ladies Auxiliary, and the Red Cross Society. She was also active within the African United Baptist Association and served on the Women's Institute. Marguerite became a role model for many when she went to night school to get her high school diploma and was always an active community volunteer, originally in East Preston and later in Dartmouth, which has been her home for the past 34 years. She was employed for a number of years as head housekeeper at the Downsview Motel in Sackville. Following her retirement from the motel, she worked as a child care provider before taking a position at Park Lane Mall for 10 years prior to her second retirement. Shortly after retiring for the second time, Marguerite went on to do volunteer work at the Victoria General Hospital, a position she continued until her illness limited her activities. An avid traveler with an adventurous spirit, Marguerite visited many countries, including Hong Kong, Japan; China, Japan, Morocco, Spain, Scotland, and England. She had also traveled extensively throughout Canada, the United States and the Caribbean, making many friends along her travels. She also enjoyed entertaining and shared her talent by catering community events and opening her home to community members and international students. Having fought a long, spirited and courageous battle with liver disease, she died peacefully on Friday. Left to cherish her memory and to follow her legacy of strength, resilience, dignity and compassion are her second husband, Gerrard Parent, Dartmouth; brother, William Slawter, East Preston; sister, Stella Bailey, Toronto; daughters, Betty Thomas, Dr. Wanda Thomas Bernard (George Bernard), Candace Thomas (Easton Dunkley), Erna (Stanley) Grant, all of Dartmouth; Roxanne Thomas, Halifax; Cynthia Thomas (A. CARENCRO - Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2005, at an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel in Carencro for Una Dupuis, 87, the former Una Clavelle, who passed away at 8:15 a.m. Monday, Oct. 24, 2005, at her residence in Carencro.Interment will be in St. Peter Catholic Cemetery in Carencro.The Rev. Ray Dore' Born March 3, 1931, Ray passed on October 18, 2005 following his recently deceased wife of 52 years, Jacqueline (Jackie) Born Dore'. He leaves behind their three sons, Don, Lane and Paul, their loving wives, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A U.S. Navy Veteran and graduate of San Jose State, Ray was a dedicated teacher, administrator and mentor in the Alum Rock Elementary School District in San Jose for 35 years. After his retirement, he and Jackie spent their golden years in the mountain community of Arnold, where they enjoyed many new friends and accomplishments. Benoit "Ben" Dumont, 77, beloved husband of 52 years to Yolande (Paul) Dumont, passed away on Monday, (October 24, 2005) at his home in West Hartford after a long, courageous struggle with Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease. Born in Quebec, Canada on December 24, 1927, he was one of seven sons born to the late Adelphe and Jeanne Rose Dumont. A Connecticut resident since 1950, he was a member of the Local 43 as a carpenter for over 47 years until his retirement. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, West Hartford and formally a member of the Elks Club in Willimantic. Ben loved gardening, working around his beautiful yard planting lots of flowers and his sweet dog, Jessie. He will be dearly missed by his family and the many friends who loved him for his generosity and kindness. Besides his wife, he is survived by his children and grandchildren, daughter Suzanne Dumont Navin, her husband Joseph and their children Joseph Matthew, and Patrick, all of West Hartford; son Pierre (Pete) Dumont, his wife Melissa and their children, J.P. and Ashleigh, all of West Simsbury; and daughter Jane Dumont of East Hampton. He was predeceased in 2002 by his eldest son, Michael Dumont. He also leaves his surviving brothers, Jean-Rock and his wife Crescense, Jean-Claude, and Jean Dumont, in addition to many nieces and nephews, all from Canada. The funeral will be Thursday, October 27 at 9:30 a.m. from the Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Ave., West Hartford, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Peter Claver Church, 47 Pleasant St., West Hartford. There are no calling hours. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. The family would like to thank Dr. Fredrick Rowland and the St. Francis VNA/Hospice, especially Mary and Sue, along with Sonya, Dottie, and Leoni for all their Kindness and compassionate care they gave to Ben during his illness. Sister Kathleen Guerin -- In Worcester, Oct. 24 at age 88. With the Sisters of Notre Dame for 70 years. Born in Co. Kerry, Ireland, daughter of Cornelius and Julia (O'Connor) Guerin. She was known as Sister Cornelius Julie for many years. Graduate of Emmanuel College with a masters degree in English from Boston College and a Ph.D. in Amercian Studies from the University of Minn. She taught at Notre Dame high schools including those in Lowell, Springfield, Waltham, Somerville and St. Augustine's in Boston. She was a Professor at Emmanuel College for 18 years, before retiring. She leaves a sister, Eileen Nesbitt, a niece, Linda Nesbitt both of East Brookfield; and her sisters in religion, the Sisters of Note Dame. Funeral Mass Thursday, Oct. 27 at 6 p.m. in Note Dame du Lac Chapel, 555 Plantation St., Worcester. Charles J. LaJoie, age 63, of North Tonawanda, died October 23, 2005 at his residence, after a long illness. Born May 4, 1942 in North Tonawanda, he was the son of the late Fred and Luella (nee Miller) LaJoie, Sr. A lifelong resident of North Tonawanda, he was employed as a forklift operator at Battenfeld Grease and Oil in North Tonawanda, before retiring due to illness. He was the brother of the late Alfred LaJoie. He is survived by his companion, Gina Kraft; his son, Charles (Janet) LaJoie, Jr.; his daughter, Lori (Ron) Weaver; and a sister, Tiny (Peter) Tower. Also surviving are six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends after 1 PM on Thursday at the Hamp Funeral Home, Inc., Adam and Seymour Streets in Tonawanda, where a memorial service will be held at 2 PM Thursday. Friends invited. Interment will be cared for privately at Acacia Park Cemetery, Town of Pendleton.

George O. LePage, 61, of East Hartford died Sunday (October 23, 2005) at Hartford Hospital. He was born in Norwich, son of the late Omer and Beatrice (Roy) LePage. Roger P. Robitaille, 87, of Port Charlotte, Florida, formerly of Fall River, died Wednesday, October 19, in Port Charlotte. He was the husband of the late Anita (Beaudoin) Robitaille, and the late Marcelle (Pratt) Robitaille. Born on January 7, 1922, in Fall River, he was the son of the late Odina and Diana (Fortin) Robitaille. He was raised in Fall River, and resided in Portsmouth, RI, for 39 years. He was a resident of Port Charlotte, Florida, since 1987.Mr. Robitaille served in the Army during WWII. He served in the European Theater with the 85th Polar Bear Division. He was the Plumbing, Minimum Housing, and Building Inspector for the town of Portsmouth, RI, for many years. He was a member of Local 51, and Local 77, Plumbers and Pipe Fitters of New Bedford and Fall River. He was a member of the Charlotte County Lodge of Elks # 2153, and the American Legion Post # 110. Mr. Robitaille was a communicant of St. Anne’s Church when he lived in Fall River, a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church while living in Portsmouth, RI., and a communicant of St. Maxamillian Kolbe Church while living in Port Charlotte . Survivors include two daughters, Loraine A. Scudder, and her husband Jeff, of Simsbury, CT., and Christine A. Nasser, and her husband Tom, of Tiverton, RI. Two step-sons, Ronald Pratt, of Warwick, RI, and Nelson Pratt, of Lakeville, MA. 9 grandchildren, Jeffery Scudder, Jonathan Scudder, Tom Nasser, Jr., Ronald Nasser, Shawn Nasser, Dawn (Nasser) Rogers, Jeffery Pratt, Sarah Pratt, and Melissa Pratt. 10 great-grandchildren, Dylan Scudder, Emma Isabella Scudder, Brooke Scudder, Britney Craig, Selina Nasser, Hannah Nasser, Max Nasser, Aaron Nasser, Shea Nasser, and Jamie Pratt.
