Maria Miles November 26, 1927 - October 08, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Chapel Lawn Funeral Home Maria Miles (Engstrom) was born to Maria and Peter Hiebert in the farming community of Chortiz near Winkler, Manitoba on November 26, 1927. She passed away on Saturday, October 8, 2005 at Golden West Centennial Lodge. Maria is survived by her sons Terry (Sandi) Engstrom and Gordon Engstrom of Winnipeg. In addition Maria is survived by brothers John (Kay) Hiebert of Nanaimo, Henry (Betty) Hiebert of Swift Current, Norman (Viv) Hiebert of Swift Current, Art (Ruby) Hiebert of Winnipeg; sister-in-law Mary Hiebert of Swift Current and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Maria was predeceased by her husbands, Robert Engstrom and Reginald Miles; parents Peter and Maria Hiebert; brothers Peter, Abe, Jacob; sister Tina Atkinson and brother-in-law Bob Atkinson. The family would like to thank the staff at Rimmer House of Lions Manor and the staff at Golden West Centennial Lodge for the loving care provided to Maria during her time there. A private family service was held. Maria was laid to rest at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. “Rest in Peace Mom, You will always remain in our hearts.”

Heilmann, Beverly J. -- Ann Arbor, MI (Formerly of Dexter, MI) Age 65, died Monday, October 10, 2005 at Whitehall Convales cent Center of Ann Arbor. She was born on January 5, 1940, in Remington, IN, the daughter of Florence (Harmon) and Paul Boudreau. She worked in the meal preparation area at Chel sea Methodist Home and Bortz Healthcare in West Branch. More recently, she was em ployed at U of M in The Michigan League and Student Hous ing Departments. Beverly was a Girl Scout Leader and a Den Mother with the Boy Scouts. She was a people person. Beverly was an avid reader, enjoyed traveling, the outdoors and nature. On July 29, 1961, she married Richard Heilmann, and he preceded her in death in 2000. She is survived by two daughters, Teresa Ann (Dan) Wielinski, of Jackson, MI, Sandra Dee Lamoria of Alger, MI and son Richard Earl Heilmann and his fiance Victoria Fifer, of Ypsilanti. Also surviving are seven grandchil dren, Crystal Kotowicz; John, Michelle and Calvin Lamoria; Melissa and Kenneth Wielinski; and Amy Fifer. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 15, 2005, at Hosmer-Muehlig Funeral Chapel (3410 Broad Street, Dexter). MERRICK, Pat Bigger then life was dramatic Pat's smile, Bigger then life was her creative style, Bigger then life was her Lucy eyes' stare, Bigger then life was her artistic flare. Pat passed away at the age of 71 on Saturday October 8, 2005 at Kings ton General Hospital after a short battle with cancer. WORCESTER— Irene Rose Carriere, 95, formerly of Pilgrim Ave., died Sunday, October 9, 2005, in Knollwood Nursing Center. Irene leaves a sister, Claire Lescault of Worcester; three nieces, Jeanne Jette of Worcester, Denise Niemitz of Hardwick, Lorraine Paquette of Millbury, and many grand nephews and nieces. A brother, Raymond and a sister, Cecile Paquette predeceased her. Irene was born in Worcester, daughter of John Baptist and Dora (Turcotte) Carriere; She graduated from Commerce High and has lived in Worcester all her life. Irene worked many years as a secretary for the General Motors Corporation. She was a member of St. Joseph Church. Miss Carriere enjoyed traveling, reading and was a life long Red Sox fan. She will be remembered for her love of family, sense of humor, and strong independence. Irene's funeral will be held Thursday, October 13, from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME AND CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, 35 Hamilton St. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester. Matzke, Cathy Elaine -- Vassar, Michigan. Died Sunday, October 9, 2005 at her home. Age 52 years. Cathy was born November 24, 1952 in Saginaw, Michigan, the first child of Mr. and Mrs. Donald and Betty (Callahan) Germain. She and James Matzke were united in marriage on February 4, 1983 in Indianapolis, Indiana. For a time she worked as a waitress at DaVinci's Restaurant in Frankenmuth and she was an active member of the Vassar Eagles Aerie #2380. Cathy enjoyed bowling with James, receiving red roses from him and rearranging the furniture in her home. She and James went everywhere together. Weekend excursions to their cabin in Mio were frequent and they also had the opportunity to vacation in New York, Reno, Louisiana, the Bahamas, Hong Kong and many other places. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 22 years, James; daughter, Jamie Matzke and friend, Jerry Balcer; four stepsons, Jim and wife, Sheila Matzke, Mark and wife, Mary Matzke, Bryan and wife, Stephanie Matzke, Jason and wife, Patti Matzke; a stepdaughter, Sheri Roebuck; 15 step-grandchildren; a step- great-grandson; her mother, Betty Germain; three sisters, Donna and husband, Dan Hoover, Bonnie and husband, Don Gohs, Faye McGeshick; brother, Scott and wife, Leatha Germain; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Cathy was preceded in death by her father, Donald, in January of 2004. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 13, 2005, at the Martin Funeral Home in Vassar. LACONIA — Grace (Gracia) M. Tetrault, 89, of 406 Court Street died on Sunday morning, October 9, 2005 at Lakes Region General Hospital. She had been a resident at St. Francis Healthcare Center for the past two years, before moving from her residence on White Oaks Road in Laconia. She was the daughter of the late Henri E. and Maria (Pelletier) Henault. She was born in Manchester, on September 30, 1916, where she was raised and schooled. She had been a resident of the Laconia area for most of her life. Prior to her retirement she employed at the former Laconia Manufacturing Company. She was also a cook at Sacred Heart Rectory for 5 years. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, and a member of the Ladies of Sacred Heart. She was a member of the Blue Army, and the Legionaires of Christ where for many years she made prayer beads, and scapulars.She enjoyed playing the piano and organ. Among her hobbies she enjoyed gardening, and crafts, and was a very artistic person.She was predeceased by her husband of 42 years, Roland Tetrault in 1982. She was also predeceased by one brother, Edgar Henault, four sisters, Lauria Bourgault, Cecile Whitmore Delisle, Jeannette Delisle, and Betty Cote.She is survived by two sisters, Rita Dagenais of Laconia, and Lucienne Dumont of Manchester. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, October 13, 2005 at Sacred Heart Church, 291 Union Avenue, Laconia at 10 a.m. Rev. Adrien R. Longchamps pastor of the church will celebrate the mass. Burial will follow in the family lot at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Garfield Street, Laconia. James C. LaViolette, age 58, of Shoreview, on October 10, 2005 at his home surrounded by his loving family. HARTFORD - Willard Joseph Levesque of Hartford died peacefully at his home Saturday morning, Oct. 8, following a long courageous battle with cancer.He was born on July 28, 1925, in Grand Isle, the son of Eddie Levesque and Mattie (Beaulieu) Levesque. He was educated in Grand Isle schools, before entering the U.S. Army in 1943, serving with great distinction in the European Theater as a rifleman in the 100th division during World War II, earning numerous decorations, including two bronze stars for valor. He also served with the U.S. Air Force and Maine Army National Guard.On Aug. 10, 1946, he married his beloved and devoted wife, the former Arlene Duprey of Auburn. While raising his family in Auburn, he worked for 30 years at the Auburn Highway Department as a mechanic and heavy vehicle operator.He was also a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans Association and Paralyzed Veterans of America.Willard loved to hunt, fish and snowmobile with family and friends. He also enjoyed building, camping, working on cars and spending time with family and his little dog, Fluffy.He will be sadly missed by his wife, Arlene of Hartford; son, Paul Levesque and his wife, Rose Mary, of Jay; two daughters, Patricia Levesque of Auburn, and Nancy McMorrow and husband, Matt, of Oxford; grandchildren, Todd Levesque and wife, Loni, and their children, Gisel, Scott and Kirk, Lance Levesque and son, Erik, Jason Levesque and fiancée, Tracey Bilodeau, and daughter, Alexandra, Jeff Martin, Jennifer St. Pierre and husband, Aaron, and son, Brayden and Joshua Levesque; two step-grandchildren, Lisa Allen and Tracey Vogelsang; and many nieces and nephews. Mystic - Raymond P. Roy, 77, formerly of Avery Heights, Groton, died Oct. 8, 2005, in the Mariner Health at Pendleton Nursing Home, Mystic.He was the husband of the late Janet (Traficante) Roy.Mr. Roy was born in Pawtucket, R.I., son of the late Pierce and Emma (Marcotte) Roy.He was a U.S. Army/Air Force veteran of World War II.Mr. Roy retired from Electric Boat Division of General Dynamics in Groton, following many years of service, as a material expeditor, and he was also previously employed as a material planner for Command Aircraft.He was a member of the Westerly Lodge of Elks, B.P.O.E. No. 678, a member of the American Legion Post No. 112 in Montville, and a member of the United Commercial Travelers No. 734 of Danielson.He leaves no immediate survivors.In addition to his wife and parents, he was also predeceased by his sister, Annette Wiegand.Calling hours are omitted. Ernest "Ernie" Paul Steben, 76, a longtime West Hartford resident died unexpectedly at his home on Sunday (October 2, 2005). Born in Hartford on July 23, 1929, he was the son of the late Nazaire and Flora (St. Onge) Steben. For many years, Ernie was the manager of the Meadow Lanes in Hartford and then Bowl-O-Rama in Newington where he made many friends. He was often adorned in his famous clock which he wore around his neck to avoid the endless question, "What time is it?" Ernie was an avid sports fan, enjoyed classic movies, country music, triva, history, puzzles of all kinds and a good cup of black coffee. He also loved to visit bookstores and the many libraries in the Hartford area. A true practical jokester and natural entertainer, he was often surrounded by children while he made them balloon animals or the occasional jewelry out of a dollar bill. He is survived by his sister, Flora Desjardins, his sister, Irene LeBlanc and her husband Jack LeBlanc all of East Hartford, and his brother-in-law, Fernand Fongemy of Newington. He also also leaves behind his goddaughter, Linda Fongemy Todd and many nieces and nephews who adored him. He was predeceased by six brothers, Arthur, Leon, Conrad, Philip, Hector and Bernard. He was also predeceased by his sister, Rose Marie Fongemy. He served our country in the Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean War. He will be missed by all that loved him and enjoyed his wonderful sense of humor. His funeral will be held on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 10 a.m. at St. John's Church, 5 St. John's Square in Middletown (Exit 16 off Route 9) followed by a burial at Middletown Veterans' Cemetery. Horwedel, 49, of Rutland, died unexpectedly Sunday, October 9, 2005, at the Rutland Regional Medical Center.She was born on December 21, 1955, in Manchester, NH, the daughter of Maurice A. and Violette M. (Desrochers) Therrien.Mrs. Horwedel graduated from the Rutland High School in 1973 and the University of Vermont in 1977.She was a former resident of Burlington and St. Albans where she had been employed by the St. Albans High School. Fernand "Fern" J. Turmel, 78, of East Hartford, loving husband of Dorothy L. Turmel, died unexpectedly Saturday (October 8, 2005). He was born on August 29, 1927, in New Britain, son of the late Arthur Turmel and Maria Turmel. Fernand served our country in the U.S. Army in post war occupation of Germany and was honorably discharged on March 27, 1947. On October 3, 1953, he married Dorothy Lionti with whom he shared 52 years of marriage. He was a devoted communicant of Saint Christopher Church. He was also a long time member of the Local 481 Painters' Union and the A.A.R.P. Chapter 1006. Fern displayed an unmatched patience and kindness in every aspect of his life. Family, friends and the like have been touched by his helpfulness and genuine good nature. He is survived by his wife and best friend Dorothy, with whom he lived a very happy and full life. Other survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Dea and Brian Collins of East Hartford; daughter and son-in-law, Teri and Glenn Merry of Indianapolis, IN; brother and sister-in-law, Philip and Nancy Turmel of Wethersfield; brother Gerard Turmel of East Hartford; sisters-in-law, Connie Paquette of Ottawa, Canada, Vincenzina Buzzell of Proctor, VT, Ruth Lionti of Texas City, TX and Lori Lionti of Lady Lake, FL; and several loving nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother Emile Turmel. Funeral services will be Thursday, October 13, at 10 a.m. from the Callahan Funeral Home, 1602 Main St., East Hartford, to a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Saint Christopher Church, 538 Brewer Street, East Hartford. Paul-Henri Plourde, 71, lifelong resident of Amesbury, passed away Friday Oct. 7. Son of the late Emil and Marie-Jeanne (Viette) Plourde. He was a well-known Barber, he was also artistic and enjoyed painting, the outdoors, golf and sailing. He was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the US Air Force. He is survived by his significant other, Ida St. Pierre of Amesbury, one son, Jonathan Paul Plourde of Boston's North End, one daughter, Natalie Plourde Murphy of Westfield, two brothers, Jean-Louis Plourde of Amesbury and Albert Plourde of Laconia, NH, one sister, Loiselle Gosselin of Amesbury, 3 grandchildren and nieces and nephews. KOSTYK, Fred. It is with sadness that Cathie and Real Cloutier announce the passing of Fred Kostyk, originally from Winnipeg, MB at the age of eighty-nine on October 8, 2005. He was predeceased by his wife Emilia in 1996 and his son Raymond in 1994. He also leaves to mourn him his daughter-in-law Margaret and grandchildren Susan and Chuck, and family and friends in Canada and in the States. Fred was a Veteran of the Spanish Civil War and World War II and had been retired from Air Canada since 1977. NEWMAN, EVA MARY - At the Saint John Regional Hospital, Eva Newman passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Friday, October 7, 2005. Born in Acaidieville, NB., she was the daughter of the late Albenie and Mary (LeBlanc) Caissie and wife of the late Albert Newman. She was a member of St. John the Baptist - St. Clement Church (Mission Church) as well as, a member of St. Monica's Ladies Guild at the church. Eva was a kind-hearted and compassionate lady with a loving personality who will be fondly remembered by her family and very dear friends. She is survived by her only son Brian and wife Wendy of St. Catharine's, ON and their daughter Casey; as well as, several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband Albert, Eva was predeceased by her infant son, James Abbott, and infant daughter, Donna Marie, brothers Frank and Anthony and sister Evangeline Stephens.
