GLENBURN - Romeo "Butch" Landry, a Vietnam veteran was born Nov. 23, 1946. He died Oct. 4, 2005, at a Bangor hospital, after a long illness. He is survived by his loving wife, Roxanne Landry of many years; three children, grandchildren; four stepchildren, as well as his sister, June; and many nieces and nephews. He would have wanted all of his friends and family to know how important they were to him for their continuing support, and companionship. A Memorial will be held at a future date in Augusta. Mr. Paul James Dugas of Jacksonville was born on September 6, 1930 in Lafayette, La. to Armond and Veronique Dugas and went home to be with the Lord on October 9, 2005. He leaves behind his wife of 51 years Mary Ruth Dugas; three sisters, Verna (Andy) Anderson, Winnie (Louis) Begnaud and Beatrice Laundry of Lafayette, La.; a Godson and his wife, James and Valinda Dudley and their daughters Aja and Jordan, Atoka, TN; special nephews and nieces Steve and Debby Speaks and their children Sam and Mary, Troutman, NC; Chris and Janet Leach and their daughters Amanda and Shelby, Jacksonville, FL.; Cindy and Sandra of Lafayette, La.; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews and friends. A twenty-year veteran of the Air Force, Paul worked for twenty-six years with Wachovia Bank of Jacksonville. He attended Terry Parker Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 5-8 PM on Tuesday evening October 11, at Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 940 Cesery Blvd.. PRESQUE ISLE - Beatrice M. Plourde, 67, wife of the late Joseph Plourde, passed away peacefully Sunday evening, Oct. 9, 2005 at the home of her daughter, Dana Michaud in Levant surrounded by her loving children, after an extend illness. She was born Sept. 28, 1938, at Allagash, the daughter of Samuel and Addie (Pelletier) Hafford. Beatrice attended local schools and was a resident of Presque Isle for many years. She was a published poet and accomplished artist whose legacy was love and she maintained an amazing sense of humor up until the end of her life. In addition to her parents, Beatrice was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Plourde Jan. 4, 2004; stepmother, Ida (McKinnon) Hafford; three brothers, Roy, Clarence and Elbert Hafford. She is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Clarence and Tanya Hafford of Virginia, Phillip and Wanda Hafford of Bradley, Douglas and Paula Hafford of Eddington, John and Jessica Hafford of Millinocket; three daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Steven Hogue of Perham, Tammie Hafford-Robbins and her husband, Tod Robbins of Hawaii, Dana and Peter Michaud of Levant; four brothers, Thomas Hafford and his wife, Grace, of Houlton, Donald Hafford of Waterville, Gary Hafford and his wife, Debbie, of Presque Isle, Terry Hafford of Florida; 18 grandchildren; five great-grand-children; numerous nieces and nephews, including one very dear nephew, Tommy Hafford of Massachusetts. Friends may call noon-1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12 at the United Pentecostal Church, 37 Currier St., Fort Fairfield, where a funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. with the Rev. Richard Vincent officiating. A time of fellowship will be held at the United Pentecostal Church reception area immediately following the funeral service. LACONIA — Grace (Gracia) M. Tetrault, 89, of 406 Court Street died on Sunday morning, October 9, 2005 at Lakes Region General Hospital. She had been a resident at St. Francis Healthcare Center for the past two years, before moving from her residence on White Oaks Road in Laconia. She was the daughter of the late Henri E. and Maria (Pelletier) Henault. She was born in Manchester, on September 30, 1916, where she was raised and schooled. She had been a resident of the Laconia area for most of her life. Prior to her retirement she employed at the former Laconia Manufacturing Company. She was also a cook at Sacred Heart Rectory for 5 years. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, and a member of the Ladies of Sacred Heart. She was a member of the Blue Army, and the Legionaires of Christ where for many years she made prayer beads, and scapulars.She enjoyed playing the piano and organ. Among her hobbies she enjoyed gardening, and crafts, and was a very artistic person.She was predeceased by her husband of 42 years, Roland Tetrault in 1982. She was also predeceased by one brother, Edgar Henault, four sisters, Lauria Bourgault, Cecile Whitmore Delisle, Jeannette Delisle, and Betty Cote.She is survived by two sisters, Rita Dagenais of Laconia, and Lucienne Dumont of Manchester. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, October 13, 2005 at Sacred Heart Church, 291 Union Avenue, Laconia at 10 a.m. Rev. Adrien R. Longchamps pastor of the church will celebrate the mass. Burial will follow in the family lot at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Garfield Street, Laconia. PELHAM -- Roger J. L'Heureux, 65, a Pelham resident who worked at a local company, died Sunday afternoon, Oct. 9, at his home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Pauline (Durand) L'Heureux, to whom he was married for 43 years.He was born in Lowell, Sept. 5, 1940, son of the late Ralph and Irene (Lamoureux) L'Heureux. He attended Lowell schools and graduated from Lowell High School.He was a communicant of St. Patrick Church in Pelham.Prior to retirement, Mr. L'Heureux was a chemical control analyst for the NeoResing Corp., in Wilmington.Among his many interests, he enjoyed antique car restoration, riding motorcycles and camping. Plante, 88, formerly of Mooers, died Monday, Oct. 10, 2005, at the Lakeshore Hospital in Hanover, N.Y.She was born in Mooers Forks on Oct. 2, 1917, the daughter of Ozie and Pearl (Morah) Plante.She attended Canton A.T.C. and graduated from Syracuse University. She was a hospital dietitian in New Jersey and Philadelphia and later was a dietitian at the University of Rochester and later at Bell Canada in Montreal where she retired in 1979 after 23 years of service.She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and St. Joseph's Church in Mooers.She is survived by a sister, Bernadette Mousaw of Derby, N.Y.; three nephews, James Plante of Washington, Joel Mousaw of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and John Mousaw of Hamburg, N.Y.; and a niece, Patricia Mousaw of Derby, N.Y.Two brothers, Paul and Richard Plante, died earlier.Funeral services will be held in Hamburg, N.Y., on Wednesday and a graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday from St. Joseph's Cemetery in Mooers.The E.F. ALEXANDER ROBERTS COLCHESTER - Alexander Roberts, 84, a longtime resident of Colchester, died peacefully at his home on Monday, Oct. 10, 2005. Alex was born in Killingly, Conn., on Dec. 17, 1920, the son of the late Guillaume and Mary Louise Roberts, and was educated in Quebec, Canada. He was married on Dec. 1, 1945, to Gyneth (Charron) Roberts, who predeceased him on March 28, 1963. Alex was employed at Ingleside Farm in St. Albans for many years, and after 20 years, retired from the University of Vermont on June 30, 1987, and enjoyed his time fishing. Alex is survived by his daughter, Nancy Blow and her husband, David, of Winooski; granddaughters, Lisa Blow of Burlington, and Karen Trayah and her husband, Bruce, of Mims, Fla.; great-grandchildren, Stephen, Stacey, Alexander (his namesake), and Daniel. He was predeceased by his brothers, Arthur, Henry, Wilfred, Frederic, and Francis. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, Oct. 12, at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Colchester. Interment will follow in St. George Cemetery in Bakersfield. LEWISTON - Murielle V. Rodrigue, 79, of 2 Stewart St., Lewiston, died Saturday, Oct. 8, at her residence with her family by her side following a long illness.She was born in Lewiston on Feb. 14, 1926, the daughter of Aime J. and Valeda (Plante) Roy. She was educated at Holy Family parochial school and Lewiston High School.She married Frank Rodrigue on Aug. 17, 1946. He died on Nov. 18, 1997.Murielle and her husband owned and operated Arthur's Grill from 1947 to 1961 until a fire destroyed the business. She then worked with her husband at Old Orchard Beach at the Beachwood Motel, and later became manager of the Jewelry Department at the Fantastic Fair in Auburn. She became a cosmetologist at the B. Peck Department Store and also a cosmetologist at Ward Bros.She was a member of Holy Family Parish, Ladies of St. Anne's and also Ladies of the Wallace Assembly Knights of Columbus Wives 106. She was crowned Queen of the Fraternal Order of Eagles 618 in 1950. She was also Queen of the Wallace Assembly Knights of Columbus Auxiliary Wives in 1956.She was a devoted mother and grandmother to her beloved family and good friends.Murielle had a passion for poetry, gardening, the ocean, swimming, creating oil paintings, crocheting, knitting, music and dancing. She loved people and the public and going to Paradise Farm, owned by her daughter in Cookshire, in Westbury, Quebec.She is survived by her beloved daughter, Linda Rodrigue, and her fiancé, Gaston Dube, of Westbury Quebec; her grandchildren, Michael Lauzon of Cookshire, Quebec, and Ann Marie Lauzon of Ascot Corner, Quebec; great-granddaughter, Jessica Lauzon; one devoted nephew, Lt. Gratien (Bob Roy) and his fiancée, Cecilia Harkins, of Lewiston; and several nieces and nephews.She was predeceased by two brothers, Robert and Rosaire Roy; and one sister, Georgette J. Roy.Murielle was so proud of each member of her family. She loved them with all of her heart, which gave her the strength to fight life's battles.A special thank you to the Hospice staff and Androscoggin Home Health, especially Cindy Halliday and Margaret Quinn. A special merit to her caretakers Judy Floyd and Lise Vincent for their devotion and love they shared with her in the final steps of her path. KESTER, Mary Paterson Died Thursday, September 15, at Manor Care nursing home in Wilmington, DE, after a lengthy illness. She was 81 years of age. The former Mary Kerr Paterson was born in 1924, eldest child of the late Dr. and Mrs. R. K. Paterson of Ottawa. Her father was a surgeon and pioneering radiologist who practiced in the capital for many years. Mrs. Kester graduated from Elmwood School in 1940, and from Queen's University in Kingston with an Honors B.A. in 1944. She remained a loyal and affectionate alumna to the last; the entire Paterson clan indeed has been closely associated with the University since the turn of the (twentieth) century. After two years as editorial secretary to Lorne Pierce at Ryerson Press in Toronto, she attended Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in New York City, graduating with an M.S. in 1947, and marrying her classmate Gordon H. Kester of Rochester, NY. Mrs. Kester worked in administrative capacities at Brown University, Providence, RI, from 1947 to 1950; the University of Rochester, Rochester, NY, from 1971 to 1978; and St. Mary's College of MD, St. Mary's City, MD, from 1978 to 1986. She was active in the League of Women Voters between 1960 and 1976 in both Delaware and New York state, and greatly enjoyed golf at the DuPont Country Club. After her husband's retirement from college administration and their return to Delaware in 1988, she tutored in English for several years with the Literacy Volunteers of America, served with the Meals on Wheels program, and pursued her interests in travel, gardening, genealogy, books, crossword puzzles, and all things Scottish. Mrs. Kester was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Gordy. She is survived by her loving immediate family: daughter Marian K. Coombs, son-in-law Francis Coombs, and granddaughters Bonnie and Molly Coombs of Crofton, MD; daughter Dr. Janet E. Kester, son-in-law Ian Kester, and granddaughters Daria and Eleanor Kester of Wentzville, MO; and son Lt. Col. James P. Kester and daughter-in-law Heather Kester of Newark, DE. She is also survived by her large Canadian family:rother Robert Paterson, sister-in-law Barbara Paterson, nephews Robert, William and Scott Paterson and niece Barbara Poirier and their families, all of Ontario; sister Elizabeth Lawrence, nephews Stephen, Gordon and Robert Lawrence and niece Carol Shymka and their families, all of Alberta; as well as numerous relations in the British Isles. Interment of her ashes will be in November in Churchville, NY. A memorial service is planned for late November in Ottawa. CORMIER, JOSEPH B. - The death of Joseph Basile Cormier, of Saint John, husband of Edmonde Cormier, occurred on Sunday, October 9, 2005 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Caraquet, NB he was the son of the late Emile and Eugenie Cormier. Mr. Cormier was a veteran of World War II serving overseas in Belgium, Holland, Germany and the invasion of France. For forty years he was a driver and co-owner of Vet's Taxi. Following his retirement from Vet's Joseph worked for several years with Irving Security. Joseph was a member of St. Pius X Church, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #64, RCS Signal Corp. Association, C.N.I.B., and was a longtime member of the Aquatic Centre. Although Joseph was legally blind, he would daily, for the past 15 years or so, walk uptown with his white cane for his daily swim and then back home again. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Rene (Lori) of Calgary, AB and Michael (Joan) of Fredericton, NB; three daughters, Linda Stafford (Brian) of Saint John, Janet Erb of Saint John and Eileen Cormier (Brian McAfee) of Tallahassee, FL; one brother, Alphonse of Saint John; nine grandchildren, David, Alan and Martin White, Justin Erb, Mark and Lisa Cormier and Joseph, Rachel and Annie Cormier; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by half-brother, Frank Hebert. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Tuesday 7-9 PM and Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. HUDSON, NY -- Brother Francis Joseph Michaud, C.S.C, died early Saturday morning, October 8, 2005 in Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson after a brief illness. Francis Joseph Michaud was born in Island Falls, Maine on December 7, 1912 the sixth of eitht children of Joseph J. and Annastasia Laura (Saucier) Michaud. He was baptised in St. Benedict's Church in Benedicta, Maine and was confirmed in St. Agnes Church in Island Falls. Francis was educated in the public schools of Island Falls, receiving his high school diploma in 1931. He attended Aroostook State Teachers College in Presque Isle and received his bachelor's degree from the University of Maine in 1949. During World War II, Francis served in the United States Army from 1942 to 1945, assigned as a chaplain's assistant in the Italian Campaign. He entered the congregation of Holy Cross as a candidate for the brotherhood in September 1952 at St. Joseph Juniorate in Valatie. He made his temporary profession of vows in 1954 and his perpetual vows in 1958. The early part of his ministry as a Holy Cross Brother was spent in teaching in various schools conducted by the Congregation in Indiana, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New York. In the mid 1950's he was a member of the faculty of the former Vincentian Institute. A Skilled organist and musician, Brother Francis spent the latter part of his career in music ministry in parishes in Rhode Island and Connecticut. In 1994 he retired to St. Joseph Center in Valatie during which time he devoted his talents to music, French and the study of the origins of English words and phrases. A wake service will be held in the Chapel of St. Joseph Center, Valatie on Wednesday evening, October 12 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated there at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 13. Interment will follow immediately in the Holy Cross Community Cemetery on the grounds of St. Joseph Center. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph Center Retirement Fund. McGIRR, RITCHIE ERSEL Ritchie E. McGirr of Springfield, York Co., NB passed away October 9, 2005 at his home. Born at Dumfries in 1943, he was a son of Bertha (Hoyt) McGirr and the late Angus McGirr. Ritchie enjoyed cribbage and his dogs. He is survived by his mother, Bertha M. (Hoyt) McGirr; a daughter, Alesia Camara, Mississauga, ON; a son, Trevor McGirr, Alberta; two grandchildren, Dolan and Joshua; two sisters, Melissa McGirr (Richard Girard), Montreal, Quebec and Helena McGirr (Stan McGee), Port Cartier, Quebec; a brother, Robert (Ellen Dougherty), United Arab Emirates; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. In addition to his father, Ritchie was predeceased by a brother, Ralph. Resting at Flewelling Funeral Home, 585 Otis Drive, Nackawic with visiting hours Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held from the funeral home chapel on Wednesday, October 12, 2005 at 2 p.m. with Rev. MAJER, IVAN - The death of Ivan Majer of Carleton Kirk Lodge occurred on Sunday October 9, 2005. He moved here to Saint John from Croatia in 1952, worked at McAvities in Saint John, moved to Hamilton, Ontario in 1966. He returned to Saint John in 2000. He is survived by his loving wife Stefie, son Herbert (Jean) Foglein of Quispamsis; daughter Hedda Fry of Idaho, U.S.A.; three grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren and nephew Aloyse Majer and family of Guelph, Ontario. By request there will no visitations or funeral service. The family would appreciate donations made to the charity of the donor's choice. John (Jack) Hutchinson October 09, 1914 - October 08, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Chapel Lawn Funeral Home Jack Hutchinson quietly passed away at the Victoria General Hospital Saturday, October 8, 2005. He was predeceased by his wife of 25 years Margaret (nee: Dingey). Jack is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Marguerite (Shail); his children, James (Janet) Hutchinson, Susan Hutchinson (Bob Johnson), Kathy Shail (Bob Logan), Patti Shail (Greg Ballantyne) and Steve (Susan) Shail; his nine grandchildren who brought him such joy: Kristine, Kim, Nikki, Lori, Jennifer, Jillian, Tim, Amanda and Jamie and four great-grandchildren, Taylor, Breanna, Alexander and Aiden. Jack was born October 9, 1914 in Watrous, Saskatchewan and after graduating, worked at Boyd Brothers, General Foods and retired from Robin Hood Flour with over 25 years of service, in Moosejaw, Montreal and Winnipeg. Jack flew with the R.A.F. in the Second World War and was a proud member of the Wartime Pilots. He was a P.O.W. from 1942-1944 and was a member of the Escapees Society of Winnipeg. Two of his many passions were golf and curling which he participated in at the Wildwood Club where he and Marguerite were members for many years. Jack, or Papa as he was affectionately called not only by his grandchildren, was a wonderful storyteller, a relentless kidder (just ask his grandkids) and always enjoyed a good argument, especially if he won. A celebration of Jack's life will be held on Thursday, October 13, at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity United Church, 933 Summerside Avenue, with Reverend Milly Malavsky officiating.
