Madeleine Almeria Paquin Shiels, 89, of Lynchburg, VA and formerly of Canton, NY died Monday (August 15, 2005) in Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of the late Lloyd Benton Francis Shiels for 64 years. Madeleine and Lloyd were married in Notre Dame Church in Ogdensburg, NY on May 2, 1939. Born March 26, 1916 in Maskinonge, Canada she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Marie-Anne Vermette Paquin. Mrs. Shiels had made her home at Westminster Canterbury after moving to Lynchburg in June. She and Lloyd resided in Wethersfield for over 30 years while raising their five children. She was an employee of Hartford Hospital. Upon retiring they moved back to Ogdensburg and later to Canton where she was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church. After living in Canton for many years they moved to Zephyrhills, FL and lived there until Lloyd's death. Madeleine then made her home in Lakeland before moving to Lynchburg. In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by siblings, Theresa, Claire, John, Victor and Suzanne and granddaughter, Katherine Finnerty. Mrs. Shiels is survived by three sons, James V. Shiels of New London, Benton William Shiels and wife, Susanne of Angelholm, Sweden and Grant L. Shiels of Elon, VA; two daughters, Lorraine T. Girling and husband, Rowland also of Elon and Barbara A. Finnerty and husband, Kevin; two grandsons, Scott Edward Garner and wife, Amy of Powhattan, VA, Michael Finnerty of Washington, D.C.; a great-granddaughter, Jessica Elizabeth Garner; two sisters, Sally P. Haire and husband, Gordon of Southington, Connie P. Limoges of Zephyrhills and many nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial mass will be held Monday October 3, 10 a.m. in Notre Dame Church. Madeleine's first cousin, The Most Reverend Jude St. Antoine, Auxiliary Bishop of Montreal, will be the celebrant and homilist. Burial will follow in Chippewa Cemetery, Brier Hill. TRUDY REESE DEROUEN, of Houston, Texas passed away on Monday, September 19, 2005. She was preceded in death by her husband Dewey J. DeRouen, brothers Dixie Reese and Alvin Van Ostrom. She is survived by her daughters Denise DeRouen and Renee Benham, grandson Eric Earnshaw, numerous nieces and nephews, and her beloved furry children, her cats, Tortie, Lucky, Ginger, Budda and Peepers. SHREWSBURY— Florence M. (Bachant) Piuze, 87, of Shrewsbury, died peacefully on Friday, September 30, 2005, in the Christopher House. Her husband Roger Piuze died in 1987. Florence is survived by her devoted sons, Roger J. Piuze and his wife Darlyn, and Ronald L. Piuze and his wife Gail, both of Shrewsbury; a brother, Joseph Bachant of Colorado; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Florence was born in Worcester, daughter of Joseph and Anna (Prosper) Bachant, and lived in Shrewsbury 52 years. She was a graduate of Commerce High School. Florence was a home health aide for the Visiting Nurse Association for many years before she retired. Florence enjoyed gardening and was an avid Red Sox fan. She was a long time member of St Anne’s Church, where she was also a Sunday school teacher. She was also a member of the Shrewsbury Senior Center. Florence’s funeral will be held Monday morning, October 3, from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME AND CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., with a Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Anne’s Church, 130 Boston Turnpike, burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery. A calling hour will be held in the funeral home from 8:30 AM-9:30 AM prior to the funeral Mass. BIDDEFORD -- Edward P. Beaudoin, 67, died Oct. 1, 2005, winning peace after a brief but difficult fight with cancer. He was born in Biddeford on May 12, 1938 to Mildred (Taute) and Albert J. Beaudoin Jr. He attended Biddeford schools, in 1956, graduating from Biddeford High School where he played a notable second base for the baseball team, and went on to earn both a bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Gorham State Teachers College. He immediately embarked on a teaching career that took him to Maine schools from Newport to Westbrook. Before he left the profession, he served as a special education teacher teacher, a school administrator, and an educational innovator who helped to establish a preschool day-care for unprivileged children at the PeopleÕs Regional Opportunity Program in Portland. During this time, he was devoted to his own children’s development. He was a frequent volunteer in their classrooms at St. Mary’s School in Biddeford. He served as a coach in little league and youth hockey, and could be counted on to attend every dance recital, school concert, gymnastics meet, or basketball game in which they participated. He later left the teaching profession to take up public service, working as a municipal planner and code enforcer in Old Orchard Beach. He retired from town government and returned to his childhood home in Biddeford in order to care for his aging parents. Edward was also an active volunteer at St. Mary’s Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He did not simply profess his faith, but lived it every day. Fellow parishioners counted on him for rides to church, doctors’ appointments and other engagements. He looked after his friends when they took ill; lent a hand they required help; provided comfort when they experienced disappointments. He also managed to find the time to travel in his later years, making regular winter trips to California to visit relatives. he went to Mexico and Canada, and made a voyage to Europe, where he explored the French countryside, visited Paris, drove through the Swiss Alps, and toured southwestern Italy. He was the family genealogist, tracing his ancestors back to their arrival in North America in the 17th century. Late in life, he discovered his true calling - to be a doting grandfather. He showered his grandchildren with love, constantly sending them small tokens of his affection, celebrating their successes and buoying their spirits, no matter how far flung they might be. Edward was predeceased by his parents, and his brother, Albert J. Beaudoin III. He is survived by his daughter, Diana Lewis and her husband, Ulysses of Old Orchard Beach; two sons, John Beaudoin of Bowdoinham and his wife Felicite, and Mark Beaudoin of Old Orchard Beach; three nieces; and nine grandchildren. Visiting hours will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., on Monday at Cote Funeral Home, 87 James Street, Saco. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., on Tuesday at St. MaryÕs Church in Biddeford. Interment will follow at St. MaryÕs Cemetery, Biddeford. Edward P. Beaudoin

SANDRA J. CHICOINE WINOOSKI — Sandra J. Chicoine, 66, of Winooski, formerly of Burlington, died at home surrounded by her family on Oct. 1, 2005. She was born in Swanton, on Jan. 1, 1939, daughter of Henry and Helen (Bushey) Benoure. Sandra was a longtime member of St. Joseph CoCathedral. She loved to play bingo and to crochet. Sandra was a loving and giving person. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, who was the center of her family. Words cannot express what a great person Sandra was; she will always be remembered in our hearts and greatly missed. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Albert E. Chicoine of Winooski; three children, Laurie Hanley of Winooski, Albert E. Chicoine Jr. of Burlington, Randy Chicoine of Winooski; son-inlaw, Larry Hanley of Winooski; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Forcier and her husband, Troy, Christina Hanley, Nichole Kruger and her husband, Christopher, Larry Hanley II, Amber Hanley, Dustin Chicoine, Skyler Chicoine and Kayla Chicoine; six great-grandchildren, Jessica, Ashleigh and Eric Forcier, and Arianna, Nathan and Serenity Kruger; a brother, Robert Benoure and his wife, Brenda of Colchester; two sisters and their spouses, Nancy and Richard Gaboriault of Burlington, and Marion and Theodore Pilon of Bristol; brothersin-law and sistersin-law, Miles and Irene Chicoine of Colchester, Beverly and James Forest of Burlington, Coleen Booska of South Burlington, Elinor Campbell of Hinesburg and Norman and Bertha Chicoine of Burlington; and many nieces and nephews. OBITUARY JOHN (JACK) REICH Called away September 30, 2005. Quickly and peacefully. Jack happily joins Elaine who passed in 1983. Jack was the son of James and Jesse Reich, Scottish born who immigrated to Montreal in the early 1900's. Jack was their first son (b. 1917) and James and William soon followed. Raised in Pointe Saint-Charles, Jack volunteered and served in the Canadian Army from 1939 to 1945 in England and the Netherlands. He claimed good fortune at being able to return home early in furlough and greater fortune to marry Elaine Thompson in June of 1945. His luck continued as the war ended prior to his re-call to duty and he joined Canadair in a career long job "on-the-line". A skilled worker with a knack for problem solving, Jack finished his time on the job as a first class instructor to new hires. His life was built around family, home, job, fixing cars and lately his cats. He was a great Dad to Bonnie, Holly and Tom, a wonderful father-in-law to George, Michael, Ann and Valerie and a devoted Poppa to Tara, James and Jenna. Although the words were sometimes addled, you could never mistake the love in the message. Thanks Dad, we love you too. WORCESTER— Philipe C. “Peto” Levasseur, 72, of 304 Lovell Street, died Friday, September 30th, in UMass Hospital after a short illness. His wife of 40 years, Evelyn R. (Dube) Levasseur died in 1995. He leaves a son, Philip B. Levasseur of Chicago, IL; a daughter, Denise J. Brennan of Old Orchard Beach, ME; a sister, Janet Mitchell; 2 grandsons, Brad Deschanes and Brian Brennan; many nephews and nieces. A daughter, Cheryl M. Deschanes; 3 brothers, Armand, Joseph and Eugene Levasseur and a sister, Claire King predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, the son of Joseph and Regina (Demers) Levasseur. Mr. Levasseur was an U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was employed as a plumber and steamfitter for the Worcester Public School System for 17 years, before retiring as Department Head in 1995. Previously, he worked as a plumber for L. P. Gallo Plumbing and Heating Company. Mr. Levasseur was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States Post 6907. Edward 'Ted' Martelle passed away on Thursday, September 22, 2005 in Yarnell, Arizona. Ted was born in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada on March 21, 1937. He is survived by his daughter April Murray (Dale), son Ted Martelle (Laura), and his grandchildren Tara, Thomas, Kaelen and Chaz. He dearly loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them all. His passing has left a huge void in his family's life. Ted recently celebrated 36 years in AA. He credited the AA program with saving his life. He in turn helped save many others over his 36 years in AA. Ted was an avid NFL football and Nascar racing fan. Anyone who met Ted never forgot him. Ted was larger than life and always left an impression. Ted had a lot of life experience and shared his wisdom with many including his family who learned a great deal from him. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Ted's name to the American Heart Association. A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date and will be announced. PORTLAND -- Faye Eileen (Curran) Rioux, 68, passed away peacefully at Maine Medical Center on Sept. 29, 2005. She was born in Portland on Feb. 1, 1937, the daughter of John and Nellie (Johnson) Curran. Faye attended school on Peaks Island. She and her grammar school sweetheart, Richard Rioux, married and continued to reside on the island. Later, they moved to Portland. After Richard’s retirement, Faye worked at HavenÕs Candy Store for 12 years. Faye enjoyed knitting and needlework. She enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren. Her and her husband liked to spend time traveling to Florida with family and friends for winter vacations. Faye was preceded in death by her parents; children, Timothy and Gayle; brothers, Walter and John Curran. Faye is survived by her beloved husband of nearly 50 years, Richard; daughter, Rhonda Quirk and her husband John; brother, Phillip Curran and his wife Nancy; grandchildren, Christopher and Brittany; and many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held from 4-6 p.m., on Monday, Oct. 3 and from 10-11 a.m., on Tuesday, Oct. 4 at Hay & Peabody Funeral Home, 749 Congress St., Portland. Ellen Marie (Espelien) Demarais, 64, Grand Forks, ND passed away Wednesday September 28, 2005 in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks. Ellen M. (Espelien) Demarais was born November 26, 1940 the daughter of Reuben and Blanche (Dahl) Espelien in Park River, ND. She was raised in rural Park River and graduated from Park River High School. Following her graduation, she moved to Grafton, ND where she was employed with KXPO Radio. Later, she moved to Grand Forks, ND where she was employed with the Grand Forks City Water and Light Department. She was employed at Altru Hospital in the Same Day Surgery Department until her retirement. She continued to reside in Grand Forks until her death. Ellen was an active member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Grand Forks and the Grand Forks Senior Citizen's Center. She loved being outdoors and enjoyed gardening. Ellen was a wonderful person and a loving grandmother. She will be deeply missed by all her family, especially her grandchildren. MARLBOROUGH— Sister Noella Lamontagne, 95, a Sister of St. Anne, known in religion as Sister Marie Claire Eveline, died at the age of 95 at Marie Esther Health Center in this city on September 30th. She was in the 74th year of religious life. She was the daughter of Elgea and Fortunate (Houle) Lamontagne of Central Falls, Rhode Island. She completed her elementary education in that city and obtained her high school diploma at St. Anne Academy in Marlboro, MA. She held a teaching certificate and a B.E.degree from Catholic Teachers College in Providence, RI. In 1929, she entered the novitiate of the Sisters of St. Anne in Lachine, Quebec, and pronounced religious vows in 1931. She is survived by her brother Maurice Lamontagne and his wife as well as her brother-in-law, Ralph Viau, all of Central Falls; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Calling hours will be held Monday October 3 from 2-4 p.m. in St. Anne Convent, 720 Boston Post Road, Marlborough,, with a prayer service at 4 p.m. The funeral Mass will be on October 4 at 10 a.m. in the convent chapel with burial in Saint Mary's Cemetery, Marlborough. Marlene Marie Troxclair Hadden, 57, of Slidell, died Friday, Sept. 23, 2005, at Northshore Regional Medical Center in Slidell of cancer. She was the beloved wife of Stanley E. Hadden II and mother of Kimberly A. Hadden Schwager. She is also survived by sisters, Brenda Martin, Cynthia Euggino, Sid Lovelace and Cathy Dedman; brothers, David and Bruce Troxclair; sister-in-law, Bonnie Troxclair; son-in-law, Robert Schwager; and brothers-in-law, Alan Lovelace and Frank Dedman. She was the maternal grandparent of Ludouic C. Rome, Sidonie M. Waguespack, paternal grandparent of Joseph Aubert Troxclair and Eleanor M. Zeringue, daughter of the late Dunkin J. Troxclair and sister-in-law of the late Don Martin and Russell Euggino. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hadden was born in White Castle and lived in Slidell for 14 years. She graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University with a bachelor of science degree. Boudreaux, Laura Marie Waguespack A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and a homemaker, she died at 1:45 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, 2005, in Baton Rouge. She was 88, a resident of Convent and a native of Donaldsonville. ADAMS -- Mildred A. Letourneau, 86, of 9 Water St. died yesterday morning at North Adams Regional Hospital after being admitted earlier in the day. Born in Adams on Aug. 1, 1919, daughter of Mary Gamache Bordeau and Fred Burdo, she was 2 months old when her mother died. She was raised by her maternal grandmother, Sarah Dubois Alderman, on a farm at the foot of Mount Greylock. She attended Adams schools, including the former Notre Dame Elementary and Liberty Street schools. Mrs. Letourneau was last employed at the former W.B. Plunkett Memorial Hospital as a housekeeper for several years until the hospital closed in 1974. She first began working at the former Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams during World War II. She then worked at the former Brightwater Paper Co. in Adams for 18 years. She was a communicant of the Parish of Notre Dame & St. Thomas Aquinas. She enjoyed collecting rocks and minerals and was a member of the Northern Berkshire Mineral Club from 1965 until 1985. Her first husband, Joseph E. Aubin, whom she married Oct. 8, 1938, died Dec. 6, 1966. She and her husband, Albert R. Letourneau, were married Aug. 18, 1972. Besides her husband, she leaves two daughters, Shirley Aubin Miller and Lucille Aubin Jarvis, both of Adams, seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Betty Louise Mineau, 79, Oconto, passed away Friday morning, September 30, 2005 at St. Mary’s Hospital Medical Center, Green Bay. Born August 13, 1926 in Oconto, Betty had lived there most of her life. She was the youngest of seven children born to James and Jessie (Barkley) Medd. Betty was a homemaker for much of her life, caring for her children, but also worked at several place in Oconto. Her most memorable position was that of a community worker at NEWCAP of Oconto. She loved her family dearly and enjoyed embroidery, flowers, crafts and bird watching. She also enjoyed the time that she and Bill spent in Florida. Surviving are two daughters, Debra (Wes Follett) Mineau, Oconto, and Christine “Tina” (Larry) LeFebre, Appleton; a son, Michael (Pamela) Mineau, Oconto; grandchildren, Eric (Tracy Pillsbury) Mineau, Richard “Rick” (Stephanie) Dantinne, Christopher “CJ” (Jane) Dantinne, Kyle (Dawn) Dantinne, Dillon LeFebre, Alyssa LeFebre and Ryan LeFebre; great-grandchildren, Christopher Dantinne, Jr., Laurel Rowe, Angela Kujawski,Adam Kujawski, Abby Mineau, Emily Mineau and Grace Mineau; a special nephew, Richard Medd and a special friend, William LeTourneau, Oconto. LINDA LEE BERGERON UTICA, N.Y./WINOOSKI — Linda Lee Bergeron, 53, of Utica died Friday, Sept. 30, 2005, in Faxton-St. Luke's Health Care Center in New Hartford, N.Y., following a long illness. Linda was born in Burlington, on May 3, 1952, the daughter of David Bergeron Sr. and the late Corrine (Richards) Bergeron. She was formerly employed as a dietary cook with the Heritage Nursing Home in Utica. Linda touched many lives and was a loving and caring person who will be sadly missed by family and friends. She is survived by her father, David Bergeron Sr. of Milton; her sister, Wilma A. Thomas of Throop, Pa.; her sister, Davine Tougas and husband Louis of San Antonio, Texas; her sister and caregiver, Lucky Carpenter and fiance Earl Malopt of Utica; her brother, David Bergeron Jr. and wife Megan of Milton; nephews, Leslie Martin Jr. of Florida, Richard Martin of East Benton, Pa., Brian Tougas of San Antonio, Richard Carpenter of Utica, Grady Carpenter of Utica, David Bergeron III of Milton, and twins Joshua and Justin Bergeron of Milton; nieces, Amy Tougas of San Antonio, and Corrine Bergeron of Milton; greatnieces and greatnephews; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. KAHNERT, Allan Robert Joseph Anthony -Allan Kahnert, retired president of Kahnert Furs Limited, a fourth-generation manufacturing and retail fur company, was well known by friends and associates in the North Bay and Toronto Regions. The company was founded by Mr. Kahnert's grandfather, in Nipissing, Ontario. For some years Kahnert Furs maintained a retail store on Main Street East, North Bay. The company continues to serve its customers from its headquarters store in Toronto. Mr. Kahnert passed away on Tuesday, February 8, 2005 following a brief illness. At his side were his wife Alice, his soulmate for 54 years and his loving family of 10 children. Al leaves a legacy for which we are forever indebted.
