LAFAYETTE - Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, 2005, at a Mass of Christian Burial in St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Lewisburg for Heather Marie Menard, 22, who passed away at 3:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 8, 2005, at her residence in Lafayette.Interment will be inSt. John the Evangelist Catholic Cemetery in Lewisburg.The Rev. Monsignor Fred Swenson, pastor of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church in Church Point, will officiate at the services. The readers will be Katie Reed and Debbie Richard. Kathy Guidry and Emily Venable will be the gift bearers.Musical selections will be provided by Rickie Quebedeaux.Ms. Menard was a native of Lawtell and resident of Lafayette for 15 years. She was an employee at Our Lady of the Oaks Nursing Home where she touched many patients softly and lovingly. Heather was a very caring person, always thinking of others first. THE REV. ROMEO A. TRAHAN, S.S.E. BURLINGTON — The Rev. Romeo A. Trahan, S.S.E., 86, died in Birchwood Terrace Healthcare in Burlington on Aug. 9, 2005. Father Trahan, son of Euclide and Antoinette (Remillard) Trahan, was born Jan. 17, 1919, in Swanton. He was a professed member of the Society of Saint Edmund for nearly 64 years and an Edmundite priest for over 60 years. Father Trahan completed studies in 1940 at College de St. Jean in St. Jean, Quebec, and in 1954 cum laude at Institute of Medieval Studies in Montreal, Quebec. He also pursued advanced studies at the University of Fribourg in Switzerland. During his life he was described as “a man of deep faith, wit and wisdom.“ Father Trahan was an educator who taught Latin, Greek, Apologetics, French and Theology at St. Michael's College in Colchester; French, Latin, Greek and Religion at St. Edmund's Juniorate in Swanton; and Scripture and Dogma at St. Edmund's Seminary in Burlington. During his 47 years of active ministry, he also provided pastoral care at St. Catherine Parish in Elizabeth City, N.C.; St. Anastase Parish in Greenfield Park, Quebec; the Brothers of the Sacred Heart Residence in Rosemere, Quebec; and Nativity Parish in Swanton. In addition to his apostolic assignments, Father Trahan served the Edmundite Community as Director of the Canadian apostolate and Superior of the Vermont Pastoral Region. While he retired in 1992, Father Trahan remained active with self-directed spiritual and intellectual pursuits plus his ongoing hobby — the genealogy of the Trahan family coupled with researching and compiling the history of the places associated with his ancestors. Besides his brothers in religion, Father Trahan is survived by numerous relatives who are listed in an extensive history entitled “A Vermont Trahan Family: History and Genealogy, Acadian and Quebec Roots“ that he was completing at the time of his death. Visiting hours will be held Friday, Aug. 12, in the LaVigne Funeral Home, 132 Main St., Winooski, from 5 to 8 p.m. with a wake service at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Aug. 13, in the Church of the Nativity in Swanton, at 10 a.m. with visitation in the Church beginning at 9 a.m. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery in Swanton. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Society of Saint Edmund, 270 Winooski Park, Colchester, Vt. 05439.

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Lorraine Cormier, 80, died June 16, 2005, after a severe stroke while living at Belmont Village at Sabre Springs assisted living facility in San Diego.Born on April 25, 1925, in Rochester, N.H., she was the daughter of Marie Ann and Alphonse Therrien, and graduated from Spaulding High School.She was the anchor for her family. She was always encouraging her three sons and dispensing her love with every sentence and gesture. She was the epitome of self-reliance since losing her husband, Yvan, in 1986. Her manner of conducting her life with strength and independence will keep her preserved in the memories of her family forever, as they seek to follow her wise example.She is survived by her brother, Norbert Therrien; her sons, Dave Cormier of Poway, Glenn Cormier of San Diego, and Brian Cormier of Phoenix, Md.; as well as grandchildren, Michael and Nicholas Cormier of Poway.

PTTSFIELD -- Jessica (Pollard) Genest, 36, of Main Street, died suddenly Sunday, Aug. 7, 2005, at Concord Hospital. Ms. Genest was born in Manchester, the daughter of David Pollard and Linda Fairbanks Pollard on Feb. 12, 1969. She lived in Concord for 10 years, where she attended elementary school. She moved with her family in 1981 to Pittsfield and graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1987. She attended the New England Institute at Mount Ida and earned an associate's degree in mortuary science in 1997. She was employed by the Perkins Funeral Home for several years while attending college and purchased the business from her father in May of 2000. She had been active in youth activities in Pittsfield and coached the Middle School cheerleaders. She was an area distributor for Longenberger Baskets. She also served on the Pittsfield Cemetery Association Board of Trustees. Members of her family include her husband, Randy Genest, a six-year old daughter, Josie Lynne Genest, and a seven-month old son, Jason Genest, all of Pittsfield; a stepson, Justin Genest of Pittsfield; her father and stepmother, David and Madeline Pollard of Gilmanton; her mother, Linda Fairbanks of Jaffrey; her sister, Leah Pollard of Tampa, Fla.; her half-brother, Ian Pollard of Andover; and four stepbrothers, Mark Hubbard, Christopher Hubbard and Craig Hubbard, all of Chichester, and Jay Hubbard of Andover. She had many nieces and nephews, who she considered her extended family. She was predeceased by a daughter, Jillian Genest; and her stepmother, Lynne (Hubbard) Pollard. She was a passionately dedicated funeral director in her brief career and took special care of the children involved when a death occurred. Calling hours will be held tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Perkins and Pollard Memorial Home, 60 Main St., Pittsfield. She always considered the tradition of women wearing hats to be unique, and it is requested that all the ladies attending calling hours wear a hat. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at the First Congregational Church in Pittsfield. The Rev. Charles Paige-Morgan, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow at Floral Park Cemetery. Joseph E. Paquette, 76, Sarasota, died Aug. 8, 2005.He was born April 7, 1929, in Worcester, Mass., and came to Sarasota in 2001 from Sutton, Mass. LaVIOLETTE, Kingsley W. -- Mattawan, MI -- Passed away Sunday, August 7, 2005. Mr. LaViolette was born August 17, 1923 to Camille and Jennie (Wallace) LaViolette, and was a lifelong resident of the area. Kingsley served his country in the U.S. Army during WW II, serving in the Philippines; and was a life member of the V.F.W. Post #3030 in Otsego. For many years he was the owner and operator of his own farm and agricultural business. He loved his dogs and enjoyed collecting scrap metal. Surviving are a daughter and a son, Nancy LaViolette of Florida, and Kingsley (Kim) LaViolette of Kalamazoo; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Jim (Rosie) Mollitor. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Phoebe "Tawny" Helms in 1972; his son-in-law, J.D. Burns; and his ex-wife, Phoebe LaViolette. Friends may meet the family from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Winkel Funeral Home Otsego where Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Rev. Gary S. Wales officiating. Landry, 70, of Nealley Street, died Monday, Aug. 8 at the Dover Rehabilitation and Living Center in Dover, N.H., following a period of failing health.A lifelong resident of South Berwick, he was born Aug. 24, 1934, the son of Arthur S. and Marie C. (Soucy) Landry. He was a U.S. Navy veteran having served from 1955-1959.For nearly 40 years, he owned and operated Reo's Barber Shop in South Berwick.He was a member of the South Berwick-Rollinsford Lions Club.Members of the family include his son, Reo J. CHICOPEE - Joseph L. Gosselin, 84, formerly of Chicopee and Tarpon Springs, Florida, died Sunday in the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Born & educated in Chicopee, he was one of eleven children born to the late Aldolphe & Herminie Gosselin. Joseph was a graduate of Chicopee High School and later attended Columbia University in New York. Joseph was a retired supervisor for Sears & Roebuck Co., and an Army Air Corps veteran of WWII. He was an avid golfer and an accomplished artist who enjoyed painting. He leaves his wife of 59 years, the former Rose E. Annino; a daughter, Sandra Gosselin of Chicopee; a sister, Rita Renna of Enfield, CT; many nieces and nephews; and his lifelong friend, Vincent "Vinnie" Pernice. She was born in Central Falls, RI the daughter of the late Theodore and Blanche (DuBouis) Gelinas. Lillian grew up in Moosup, CT, and was a resident of Stafford for 39 years. She was a friend of the Second Congregational Church of Stafford at West Stafford. Lillian is survived by her loving husband of 53 years of marriage Walter I. Chase; a son Jay W. Chase both of Stafford Springs, CT; two nieces, several nephews, cousins, and many beloved friends. She was predeceased by a son Don Chase, a brother Walter Gelinas, and two sisters Theresa Arpin and Evelyn Bersani. OREN JOSEPH FRANCOIS, of Houston, Texas passed away on Monday, August 8, 2005, at the age of 84. He was born June 6, 1921 in Acadia Parish, Louisiana to Leonard and Estella Bourgeois Francois. Mr. Francois worked as a Drilling Superintendent for over 25 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife, Margie Francois. Mr. Francois is survived by his sons, Murray Francois and wife, Kim and Micheal Francois and wife, Cheryl; his sister Jean Bailey; his grandchildren Mark Francois, Neil Francois, Chris Francois, Matthew Francois, Michelle Bjork and Nicole Johnson; as well as eight great grandchildren. EXETER — Eldon J. Denoncour, 87, of 20 Beech Hill Road, died at his home after a period of failing health.He was born Oct. 7, 1917, in Exeter, N.H., son of the late Albert and Delia (White) Denoncour.He had been a lifelong resident of Exeter and was the last of nine children. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during World War II. He was a member of the 811 Tank Destroyer Unit and fought at the Battle of the Bulge in the European Campaign. His military service was something he was extremely proud of. He was a member of the American Legion Post 32 in Exeter.After the war in 1946, he got married to Kathleen Beckman and worked as a shoe worker for a few years with some of the local area shoe shops. His last employment was as a custodian at the Phillips Exeter Academy, retiring at the age of 80 after 15 years of employment.He was a communicant of St. Michael's Church in Exeter and a former volunteer fire fighter with the Exeter Fire Department.He will be remembered as a loving and caring family man who had a great sense of humor.He was predeceased by his wife, Kathleen (Beckman) Denoncour in 1989.He is now survived by two sons, Jim Denoncour and his wife, Susan, of Tell City, Ind., and George Denoncour of Raymond; three daughters, Ruth Fogg of Exeter, June Daigneault and her husband, Mike, of Rollinsford, and Brenda Lavigne and her husband, Donnie, of Epping; nine granddaughters, Melissa Adam and her husband, Dan, of Canaan, Conn., Jennifer Vercauteren of Portsmouth, Renee Daigneault of San Diego, Calif., Jacqui Daigneault of Rollinsford, Katelyn Lavigne of Epping, Emilee Lavigne of Epping, Jody Denoncour, Becky Denoncour, and Laura Denoncour, all three of Tell City; and greatest Grandpa to two great-granddaughters, Abby Adam and Emma Adam of East Canaan, Conn.Calling hours will be held on Friday, Aug. 12 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter, N.H.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Aug. 13 at 9 a.m. at St. Michael's Church, Exeter.Burial with military honors will follow in the Exeter Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made either to the Disabled American Veterans National Serv. MANCHESTER — Victoria LaFlamme Nobert, 88, of Manchester, died July 27, 2005, at Catholic Medical Center, Manchester. Mrs. Nobert was born on June 5, 1917, in Dixville, Quebec, Canada, the daughter of the late Delphis and Delima (Gingras) Cloutier. She is survived by her daughter with whom she resided, Athena Laflamme-Edwards and her husband, Herbert, of Manchester; Rose LaFlamme Morel of Keene; Cecile LaFlamme Provencher and her husband, David, of Newport Center, Vt. She leaves 10 grandchildren; 19 great- grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two husbands, Raymond LaFlamme and Robert Nobert. She also was predeceased by four brothers: Alexandre, Victor, Donat and Omer; and and sisters: Anna Thibodeau, Rose Viens, Virginia Viens, Jeannette Viens, Eugenie Dion and Marie Rose LaFlamme. Victoria became a naturalized citizen on April 28, 1943, and she became a Licensed Practical Nurse on October 16, 1952. She worked at St. Louis Hospital in Berlin, Moore General Hospital and Hillsborough County Nursing Home in Grasmere. She retired in 1981 at the age of 64 due to a work related injury. BOFFI, ELLEN R. (CABANA) 93, of Deerfield Dr., died Monday at Philip Hulitar Home and Hospice Inpatient Center. She was the wife of the late Joseph Boffi. A daughter of the late Thomas and Ellen (Goss) Cabana, she had been a Warwick resident for the past 43 years. Mrs. Boffi was employed in the housekeeping department for the Order of the Eastern Star Home for 10 years before retiring. She was a member of Sts. Rose & Clement Parish. Mrs. Boffi is survived by her sister-in-law Mary R. Boffi of Warwick, nephews, Thomas A. Cabana, Jr. of Johnston and Kenneth Cabana of Cranston, niece Judith Timms of South Carolina and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was the sister of the late Thomas A. PETOSKEY - Rosalie J. Duffiney, 77, of Cheboygan, passed away Monday, Aug. 8, 2005 at Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey.A resident of the area her entire life, Rosalie was born April 10, 1928 in River Rouge, Mich., the daughter of William and Eva (Charboneau) Boyea. On Sept. 1, 1945 in Cheboygan, she married Marshall Duffiney, who preceded her in death in 1989. Prior to her retirement, she had been employed as the chief cook at Cheboygan Memorial Hospital for 18 years. She also was an avid reader.Surviving are three daughters, Marsha Burcham of Cheboygan, Adelaide (Walter) Morris of Centerline, Mich., and Gail (Vernon) Bryant of Cheboygan; a son, Kevin Duffiney of Centerline; two sisters, Jeanette Dickman of Metamora, Mich., and Marie Lanoo of St. Ignace; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; and a son David in 1974.There will a gathering of friends and family at 1 p.m. today, Aug. 10. 2005, at City Beach on Huron Street in Cheboygan.The Christian Funeral Home of Cheboygan is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Roland Bourque -- Every Level Roland Lionel Bourque, a local Ontario resident, died Tuesday morning, August 2, 2005 after a short illness. He was 82. Roland was an active member of his church choir. He became ill shortly after his return from performing with Windsong at Carnegie Hall. He was a man respected, and had soft-spoken elegance. He was especially noted for his integrity. Roland grew up in New Hampshire and lived his childhood and youth in Manchester. Roland was an upstanding young man with a character of steel. Directly after the bombing of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, Roland enlisted in the United States Army. He ended up with the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. Du ring this time, Roland worked on his musical talent which remained a crucial part of his life and the lives of his family, especially, his son, Dennis. After World War II, Roland moved out to Southern California. He spent many years working for Lockheed on various projects. One of such projects was his work on the flight recorder that went up on the Apollo 11 mission that went to the moon. In his spare time, Roland enjoyed being one of the pioneers of the sport of bodybuilding, which influenced his ol dest son to take up bodybuilding. Roland later spent a great deal of time in real estate where he met his wife, Judith, an administrative law judge. Over the years, they have been very involved in their church and their choir, in addition to their singing with Windsong. Roland was truly a mentor in his grandsons' lives and did nothing but direct them and encourage them to set monumeental goals. All who knew him have been lucky to have witnessed such a beautiful life. "Your whole family will miss you, Govvy." In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Ronald and Dennis Bourque; two grandsons, Ryan and Matthew Bourque; his step-sons, Robert and Joseph Taylor; and his step-grandchildren, Stephen, Spencer, Nicholas and Tyler. Visitation will be held Thursday, August 11, 2005 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Draper Mortuary. Services will be Friday, August 12, 2005 at 10 a.m. at St. George Catholic Church, Ontario. LUNENBURG— Beatrice M. “Bea” (Allain) Proctor, of 353 Lancaster Ave., died Tuesday, Aug. 9, in her home. She leaves her husband, with whom she recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, William R. Proctor, Sr., of Lunenburg; a son, Daniel C. Proctor of Lunenburg; a daughter, Dawn E. Johnson of Lunenburg; a sister, Cecilia Bastarache of Gardner; 11 grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. She is predeceased by two sons, Thomas I. Proctor and William R. Proctor, Jr.; a daughter, Judith A. Glow; a grandson, William R. Proctor, III; and two sisters, Anita Stacy and Viola Allain. Mrs. Proctor was born in Gardner on Dec. 3, 1933 a daughter of the late Cyrius and Viola (Bourgeois) Allain. She graduated from the Holy Rosary Elementary School in 1947 and Gardner High School in 1951. She has lived in Lunenburg since 1955. Mrs. Proctor was a bookkeeper for her husband’s business, William R. Proctor Inc., for several years before her retirement. Prior to that, she worked at the 1st Safety Fund Bank in Fitchburg and before that she worked at Gardner Trust. She was a member of St. Boniface Parish and served on their Women’s Guild. She was a former volunteer at the Fitchburg Center for Brain Injured Children and the Leominster Hospital Gift Shop. She served on the Principal’s Advisory Council at Lunenburg High School. She enjoyed traveling the world with her husband, trips to Plum Island and Mohegan Sun and spending time with her grandchildren at the family’s camp on Highland Lake in NH. The funeral will be held on Friday, Aug. 12, from the Lunenburg Chapel of the Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Homes, 763 Massachusetts Ave., with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in the St. Boniface Church, 817 Massachusetts Ave. Burial will be in the South Cemetery. McGILL, Stanley Mallett B.A. (H) Suddenly at home on Tuesday, August 2, 2005, age 83. Born March 5, 1922 in London, Ontario. Stanley served during WW II in the R.C.N. as a Chief Petty Officer. He graduated from the University of Western Ontario and joined the glass industry where he worked as a salesman in Ottawa and the Ottawa Valley area. He joined Algonquin College (E.O.I.T.) in 1963 and worked until his retirement as a teacher and Department Head in Marketing and Management in the School of Business. Stan was an avid golfer, having achieved 8 holes in one! He was Chairman of the O.D.G.A., Chairman and President of the O.V.G.A. Chairman of the Juniors Programme of the Q.G.A., a member of the Board of Directors of the Q.G.A. and also was a Governor of the R.C.G.A. Husband of the late Marjorie Corrigan. Father of Beverley (Garth Taylor), Marilyn (Alan Kuttner) and Bruce (Mary). Cherished grandfather to Leanne, Gregory, Sean, David, Jeffrey and James. Predeceased by brothers Jack, Jim, Gordon and Don and sisters Betty and Helen. Survived by sisters Marjorie Cusack and Ruth Blackwell of London, Ontario. BROWN, Leonard Mark Passed away at home surrounded by his loved ones on Monday, August 8, 2005 at the age of 83. Beloved husband of Freda, for 58 years. Loving father of Richard and Dawn. Len joined the RCAF in 1942 and attained the rank of Flying Officer. He graduated from McGill in 1951 with a civil engineering degree and went on to form several Newfoundland construction companies, most notably Seabord and Beta. His work included St. John's City Hall, the Memorial University Marine Lab and the Health Science Centre. Special thanks to the palliative care nurses from At Home Hospice. BLAINE WHITE It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Blaine White, with his family by his side, at Lake of the Woods District Hospital in Kenora, Ont. We are thankful for the two short months—from June 9 when he was diagnosed with terminal cancer until his death on Aug. 7, 2005—that we had to spend with him and that he had to share his faith with his numerous visitors. He and his family have been overwhelmed with the outpouring of love and support from family, the Lakeside Baptist church family, friends, and hospital staff. Blaine was born Oct. 25, 1955 in Fort Frances, Ont. and raised there. After graduating from Fort Frances High School, he attended the University of Winnipeg and Red River College in Winnipeg, Man., obtaining a degree in Electronic Technology. He was hired by the pulp and paper mill in Kenora, where he worked for his entire career. Blaine considered himself very fortunate to be able to live in Kenora. He loved the outdoors and sports were a big part of his life. He was passionate about playing golf and hockey. He also was actively involved in coaching many teams that his children played on. Blaine loved his family. He will be dearly missed by his wife, Beth, and his three children, Jennifer (Tyler Mostow), Breanne, and Tyler. He also leaves to mourn his mother, Elaine (Tom) Kiddle; brothers, Randy (Diane) and Doug; and sisters, Cindy (Dale) Mounk, Kelly (Dan) Boehmer, and Barbie (Warren) McMillen. Blaine was predeceased by his father, Arthur White. Cremation has taken place and funeral services will be held at Knox United Church in Kenora, on Friday, Aug. 12, 2005 at 2 p.m. Blaine wanted anyone who attended to feel free to dress casually. “Blaine, you’re the greatest!”

GLADYS ELIZABETH DESSERRE Gladys Elizabeth Desserre, 77, of Emo, Ont., passed away at her residence on Monday, Aug. 1, 2005. Gladys was born June 23, 1928 in La Vallee, Ont. to the late Norman and Christine Steele. In her early years, she enjoyed crocheting and she had worked at various tourist camps in the district. She was a very good singer, and enjoyed playing her guitar, singing, and country music. She also loved having people visit her and her door was always open to anyone, anytime. She was very fond of her cat, “Puss,” will miss her very much. Gladys is survived by her children, Carol Smith (Bob Pollard) of Fort Frances, Ont., Larry Neilson (Linda) of Calgary, Alta., and Terry Nielson (Dorothy) of Dryden, Ont. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Cindy, Owen, Andrea, Kevin, Barry, Daryl, and Kari; two great-grandchildren, Saphia and Senad; two sisters, Jean Hayes (Wes) and Laverne Desserre (Ken); one brother, Bill Steele; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Maurice, of 36 years; four brothers, Don, Sonny, Garry, and Bob; two sisters, Lyla and Peggy; and grandson, Dale. Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 6, 2005 at 2 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion in Emo, Ont. Rev. Eileen Bragg officiated, with interment in the Pineridge Cemetery in North Branch, Ont. The pallbearers were Pat Steele, Brian Neilson, Kenny Desserre Jr., Travis Wolframe, Allan McKay, and Dean Woolsley. The honourary pallbearers were her grandsons, Daryl Nielson, Barry Nielson, Owen Smith, and Kevin Neilson. SHIRLEY MAE BROWN Shirley Mae Brown (nee Breckon) passed away Saturday, Aug. 6, 2005 at her residence after a lengthy illness. Shirley was born in Fort Frances, Ont., the youngest daughter of Gordon and Inez Breckon. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Alvin Leslie Brown; maternal grandparents, Eugene and Grace Cyr; sister, Doreen Geary; and brothers-in-law, William Makarenko and Jim Witherspoon. Shirley is survived by her children and grandchildren, Donna Mae Brown-Hebert (Vanessa and Angela) of Ottawa, Ont., Debbie Lyne Brown (Brandi and William) of Medicine Hat, Alta., Darlene Grace (Pat) Desorcy and Jennifer, and Douglas Gordon Brown (Carol) and children, Jackson and Sarah, of Kenora, Ont., and Darcy Jane Rudolph (Leslie and Jenna) of Fort Frances, Ont. She also is survived by her sister, Lois Makarenko-Witherspoon; uncles and aunts, Bud and Mabel Cyr, and Jean Hoffman; brother-in-law, Earl Geary; and in-laws, Leo Brown (Alice), Douglas Brown (Edie), Stanley Brown, Wilma Redford (Ron), and Shirley Brown, all of Fort Frances, Ont. Shirley received her education at Robert Moore School and Fort Frances High School. She was a graduate of the Hairdressing School of Beauty in Winnipeg, Man. Upon her completion, Shirley was employed for a number of years at the “Denisalon” in Fort Frances under the ownership of the late Dennis Watt, who remained a dedicated friend throughout the years. Shirley was a confirmed member of Knox United Church in Fort Frances. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 11, 2005 at 2 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. Mr. Jack Cameron will officiate, with graveside prayers and interment beside her late husband, Alvin, in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances. Pallbearers will be Leslie Rudolph, Art Rudolph, Ryan Flamand, Joshua Flamand, and Harvey Flamand. WALTER PETERS A much-loved father and grandfather, Walter Peters, 95, of Rainy River, Ont., passed away Monday July 25, 2005 at the Rainy River Health Centre in Rainy River. Walter was born Feb. 5, 1910 in Rainy River to Carl and Anna Peters. The family moved to Blue Township when he was just an infant, where he resided until moving back to Rainy River in recent years due to health problems. In 1935, he was united in marriage to Winifred Ann Tobin and together they settled on his newly-purchased farm. Walter was involved in the founding of the Gospel Tabernacle Church in Blue Township and served there as minister for many years. He also was involved with the Sunday School and youth groups. Many local residents remember fondly their time with him. Walter also was one of the founding members of the Gideon Bible Society in Rainy River District. After retiring, he worked on the farm, turning the house and barn into a “museum” and chapel where many people stopped to visit. He loved music, and played many instruments. Walter also enjoyed visiting with friends and family, and was always encouraging to others. He was predeceased by his wife, Winifred on May 20, 1980; brothers, Henry, Carl, Alfred, and William (in infancy). Walter leaves behind his children, Gordon (Cathy) of Emo, Ont., Edith (Peter) Tarling of Parry Sound, Ont., Willard (Enid) of Sleeman, Ont., Phillip (Rosella) of Red Deer, Alta., and Alvin (Leslie) of Winnipeg, Man.; 15 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held Friday, July 29, 2005 at 1:30 p.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Rainy River, with Pastors Gord Armstrong and Mark Mast officiating. Monty Svinsky (cousin of Walter) played the prelude to the service. Willie and Rhoda Longenecker, some of his favourite singers, honoured him in song. The pallbearers were his grandsons, Derek Tarling, Gordon, Keith, Dean, Gary, David Craig, Steven, and Calvin Peters. The honourary pallbearers were his grandchildren-in-law, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who formed an honour guard for him after the service and at the grave site. Family members came from as far as Houston, Tex., British Columbia, and Toronto, Ont. Internment took place in the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Rainy River. It was requested that in lieu of flowers, in memoriam donations be given to the “building Fund” of the Rainy River Evangelical Covenant Church or the Gideon’s.

ETHEL FRANCIS CARRUTHERS It is with deepest sympathy that the family of the late Ethel Francis Carruthers announce her passing on July 30, 2005 at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, Man. Ethel was born Aug. 5, 1920 and was raised and educated in Chapple Municipality. She married George Albert Meyers in 1941 and lived in the Emo area for many years before settling in Atikokan with her three children in 1953. Ethel cooked at Quetico Centre, the Caland Guest House, and the Steep Rock Guest House, in addition to many restaurants and tourist camps in the Rainy River District. On March 30, 1957, Ethel married James Edwin Carruthers. Together, they built their home in Atikokan and their cabin at Factor Lake. Ethel enjoyed the outdoors . . . fishing, gardening, and entertaining family and friends. In 2000, Ethel moved to Winnipeg to be close to her daughter. Ethel is survived by her son, Don (Joyce) Meyers of Emo, and grandchildren, Pam (Marvin) Van Heyst and Richard Peri; daughter, Marion (Louie) Dufault of Winnipeg, and grandchildren, Lisa (Don) Greenberg and Brent (Lori) Dufault; daughter-in-law, Trudy Dyson of Nanaimo, B.C. and grandson, Cameron Meyers, and great-grandchildren, Jenaya and Noah Van Heyst, Aaron Greenberg, and Alexa Dufault. Also surviving is her sister, Maria Gibson, of Emo; brother, James Gibson of Atikokan; as well as many nieces and nephews. Ethel was predeceased by her husband, Jim, in1987; son, Gordon in1970; grandson, Duane in 2003; parents, John and Maria Gibson; four sisters, Agnes Meyers, Mina Meyers, Beatrice Sullivan, and Margaret Gibson and three brothers, Wilfred, Norman, and Harold Gibson. Cremation has taken place, with a graveside service conducted at the Little Falls Cemetery in Atikokan, on Friday, Aug. 5, 2005. In memoriam donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Canadian Diabetes Association.

VARIN, Danielle (1955-2005) Paisiblement, à l'hôpital du Haut-Richelieu, le 2 août 2005, est décédée à l'âge de 48 ans Madame Danielle Varin. Elle laisse dans le deuil ses enfants Annie (Maxime Rougeau) et Rémi Rouleau, le père de ses enfants Richard Rouleau, sa soeur Mireille Varin (Gaetan Bollard), sa nièce Suzanne et son neveu André. Elle laisse également dans le deuil plusieurs amis de longue date qui l'ont soutenue durant cette épreuve dont Loulou Brissette, Suzanne et Louise Plamondon. Un merci particulier à Sylvie St-Pierre et Claudette Marcil, qui ont accompagné Danielle jusqu'au bout. Merci à tout le personnel du 7e Sud de l'Hôpital du Haut-Richelieu pour les bons soins prodigués. Au lieu de fleurs, un don à la Fondation canadienne des tumeurs cérébrales serait grandement apprécié. Les funérailles, en présence des cendres, seront célébrées le samedi 13 août à 11 h, en l'église Saint-Joseph de Chambly (165, rue Martel à Chambly) et de là au cimetière Saint-Joseph de Chambly.
