Dorothy Hanlan (née Blaylock) September 16, 1918 - May 19, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Evergreen Funeral Home On May 19, 2005, Mrs. Dorothy Hanlan passed away at the age of 86 years. She is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, George; four children: Darlene (Ray) Moren, Blair (Betty), Marvin (Lorraine) and Kevin (Debbie); 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother Oliver (Olive) Blaylock; and one sister Donna Farquharson. Dorothy was predeceased by her brothers Wes and Christy; and brother-in-law Tommy. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, May 25, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Evergreen Funeral Chapel, 16204 Fort Road, Edmonton. Viewing will be one hour prior to the service. MENARD, Joseph Robert -- Passed away May 11, 2005 after a long illness. J.R., as known to family and friends, was born May 29, 1929 in Nebo, Illinois to Sam and Irene Menard. He was raised in Ontario, California where he graduated from Chaffey High School in 1947. In November 1949, J.R. joined the California Air National Guard. He was called to active duty and was sent to Ellington AFB in Houston, Texas in May 1951. In September 1951 he married his bride of 53 years, Carol Van Houten. When released from active duty in September 1952, J.R. and Carol returned to Ontario, California where he re-enlisted as a SSgt in the 163rd Fighter Squadron based at Ontario, California. J.R. proceeded to perform outstanding duties with ever-increasing responsibilities and rose to the rank of Lt. Colonel with the 163rd Fighter Squadron. In 1981, J.R. resigned his position as a Department of Defense technician working full time for the 163rd Fighter Group and was reassigned to the California National Guard Headquarters in Sacramento, California. During the next four years J. R. was promoted to Full Colonel and upon retirement, he was rewarded an honorary promotion to Brigadier General in the California Air National Guard. BG Menard's awards include the Legion of Merit, the Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Air Reserve Meritorious Service Medal, National Defense Medal and the Air Force Armed Forces Reserve Medal. After retirement J.R. and Carol settled in the Spokane, WA area in 1993. J.R. is survived by his wife, Carol Menard; daughter, Judi Dahl, son in law, Dan Dahl; daughter, Nina Menard; son, Joseph R. Menard, Jr., daughter in law, Suzanne Wiersema-Menard, daughter, Renee Bailey, and son in law, Stuart Bailey. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Laurie Zaro, Bryan Neher, Emilie Menard, Katherine Menard, Marissa Menard, Miranda Menard, Ruth Bailey; and two great- grandchildren, Randi Zaro and Isabella Neher. J.R. was proud of his family, and service to his country. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. During his life he made countless friends and was admired and respected by all. He will be dearly missed.

NORTH ADAMS -- Janet Marie Patrie, 68, of 78 College Ave., died Sunday evening at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington, Vt. Born in North Adams on Feb. 11, 1937, daughter of Alphonse Leo and Amelia Mary Dami Patrie, she was educated in North Adams schools and graduated from the former North Adams State College with the class of 1959. She completed her master's degree at Our Lady of the Elms College in Chicopee in 1967. Miss Patrie began her teaching career in the Cheshire Elementary School and later taught at Mark Hopkins School in North Adams from 1968 to 1983. She also taught at the Gabriel Abbott School in the town of Florida. She also worked as an admissions counselor at the former North Adams State College. A communicant of Notre Dame du Sacre Coeur Church in North Adams, she also enjoyed traveling. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Janet Patrie will be celebrated Saturday morning, May 21, 2005, at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church by the Rev. Daniel J. O'Hear, pastor. Alice Clark, 91, formerly of Lyndeborough, N.H., died April 17, 2005, at Peace River Nursing Home, Port Charlotte, Fla., following a brief illness.Mrs. Clark was born May 8, 1913, in Augusta, Maine, daughter of the late Arthur and Victoria Roy. She was a resident of Lyndeborough for more than 60 years. After the death of her beloved husband, Wilfred, in 1988, she sold her home in Perham Corner and moved to Nashua, which she called home for many years. She enjoyed all that Nashua had to offer: shopping malls, senior activities, dancing, bingo, the list was endless.Mrs. Clark was noted for being a fashion diva with a great sense of style. She was an avid sports fan, cheering on her beloved Red Sox, Patriots and Celtics. She was in her glory when the Red Sox won the World Series.Before her retirement from P.V.A. in Wilton, she was employed at Hitchiner Manufacturing Co. in Milford, Wells Newsstand in Wilton, and -Hillsborough Mills in her earlier years.During her residence in Lyndeborough, Mrs. Clark was a member of the Sacred Heart Church in Wilton, and a member of the VFW. She was an avid bowler and participated in several leagues, winning many trophies.She resided in her “golden years” in Maine, Michigan and Florida, and spent the last years of her life at Royal Palms Retirement Community in beautiful Port Charlotte, Fla. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Rose Parsons of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Mrs. Linda Wickstrom of Acworth, Ga.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Frances T. Cyr, 89, formerly of 235 W. Greenville St., Chippewa Falls, died Wednesday, May 18, 2005, at the Rutledge Home in Chippewa Falls.She was born February 20, 1916, in the town of Tilden to Catherine (Zwiefelhofer) and Frank Swoboda. She grew up in the town of Tilden and attended St. Charles Grade School. She was then employed at the Chippewa Woolen Mill.Frances married Howard “Buck” Cyr on Jan. 7, 1946, at St. Charles Catholic Church in Chippewa Falls. She resided in Chippewa Falls since her marriage and was a long-time member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church.She was employed at the Chippewa Shoe Company for 18 years, retiring on May 25, 1984. Survivors include a daughter, Cathy (Ken) Girard of Plymouth, Minn.; three sons, Steve (Linda) Cyr and Dan Cyr, all of Chippewa Falls and Chuck (Jane) Cyr of Elk Mound; her daughter-in-law, Jennifer Cyr of Omaha, Neb.; two sisters, Angie (Emanuel) Schwartz and Marcella (Lawrence) Beaudette, all of Chippewa Falls. SPURR, John Charles "Jack" Age 87, of Halifax, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2005 as he had wished, in his own home with loved ones at his side. Born in Saskatchewan, a son of Thelma (Goulding) and Ernest Whitman Spurr, Jack grew up in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia and graduated from Acadia University (Engineering Cert. 1940) and from Queen's University (BSc, Chem. Eng. 1942). Jack worked as a scientist with DND-DREA in Halifax for over 25 years. From his parents Jack inherited a passion for reading and a lifelong love of the outdoors. A Unitarian and a Humanist, he was a long-time member of the Unitarian Universalist churches in Halifax and, later, Ottawa. Jack is survived by his sister, Letty Seppala, London, Ont; wife, Pearl, Halifax; son, Charles, Dartmouth; daughter, Kathleen, North Grand Pre; daughter Mary, Halifax; grandsons Adrian Lynch, North Grand Pre; and Sandor Halupa, Vancouver, BC. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service to celebrate Jack's life will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday May 21 at the Universalist Unitarian Church of Halifax. Née à Shippagan le 27 août 1923, elle était fille de feu Firmin Mallet et de feu Julienne Boudreau. Outre son époux, Benoît, elle laisse dans le deuil ses filles: Collette (Gérald) LeBlanc et Patricia (Louis) Guimond, toutes deux d’Atholville, Georgette (Fernand) Duclos de Saint-Arthur et Joanne (Daniel) Briard de Montréal; ses fils: Irenée et Jean-Claude, tous deux de Richardville, Percy (Bertha Levesque) de Dalhousie Junction et Roland de Moncton; ses soeurs: Emelia Doucet et Hectorine Mallet, toutes deux de Bathurst; ses frères: Ubald de London, Ont., Armand de Nigadoo, Normand de Saint-Sauveur, Claude de Cap-Pelé et Donat de Petit-Rocher, ainsi que 11 petits-enfants et trois arrière-petits-enfants. Les funérailles auront lieu en l’église Marie-Reine de Richardville, le samedi 21 mai, à 11h. L’inhumation se fera au cimetière paroissial de McLeods. Le célébrant sera le père Roméo Morrison. Joseph Yvon Cormier l'Acadie Nouvelle - 20 mai 2005 - À West Palm Beach, Floride, le lundi 16 mai 2005, est décédé Joseph Cormier, époux de Marie A. (Paulin) Cormier. Il était entouré de sa famille et des pensées d’amour et prières de ses amis et de la famille proche et éloignée. Né le 26 août 1939 à Sainte-Marie, N.-B., il était fils de Joseph et Madeline (Leblanc) Cormier. Il manquera beaucoup à son épouse; à ses deux enfants: Karen Cormier (son fiancé Robert Coffin) et Ken (son amie Angie Moody); à ses petits-enfants: Sarah Proulx, Elise Proulx et Joshua Moody; à sa soeur, Imelda LeBlanc, ainsi qu’à ses deux frères: Ulysse et Val. Il a immigré aux États-Unis et s’est enrôlé dans l’armée de l’air américaine en 1958. Il a été en service au Japon, au Nebraska et au Texas avant d’être honorablement acquitté de ses fonctions en 1961. On se souviendra de sa générosité et de son sens aigu des affaires, deux de ses traits de caractère qui l’ont aidé à démarrer son entreprise Cormier Equipment Corporation en 1985. La compagnie est rapidement devenue une organisation à plusieurs succursales qui avait des employés au Maine, au New Hampshire, en Georgie et en Alabama. Même après avoir vendu sa compagnie et pris sa retraite en 1996, il a mérité la loyauté et le respect de ses employés et de ses collègues. Au cours de sa retraite, il est demeuré très actif sur les conseils d’administration de Cives Steel Corporation à Atlanta, Georgie et de l’école Mount Merici à Waterville, Maine. Il adorait les voyages, la pêche, le hockey, le football, les tomates et Elvis. Even after selling the company and retiring in 1996, he retained the loyalty and respect of his employees and co-workers. During his retirement, he maintained active positions on the boards of the Cives Steel Corp. in Atlanta and Mount Merici School in Waterville. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, ice hockey, football, tomatoes and Elvis.Joe passed away on May 16, 2005, in West Palm Beach, Fla. He was surrounded by his family and the loving thoughts and prayers of friends and family both near and far.
