Predeceased by brothers; Gordon, Norman and sister Leona. Survived by her loving and devoted husband of fifteen years Bob. Dorothy is lovingly remembered by her sons; Blaine, Barry (Daryl), Van (Roxanne) and Philip, her two grandchildren Crystal and Matthew. Her brother Melvin Leischner, as well as other family members and friends also remember her. Dorothy enjoyed many years with the Coquitlam School Board and then with the RCMP until her retirement. Hazel Hicks SACKVILLE, NB - The death of Hazel Hicks, of Sackville, occurred at The Sackville Memorial Hospital on Saturday, January 29, 2005. Born in Cap Pele, she was a daughter of the late Damien and Annie (Gould) Brine. She was a member of St. Vincent's Catholic Church, and a past member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion. Hazel will be sadly missed by two daughters, Rhoda (Hugh) Pervis, Dorchester, and Pauline (Lewis) Estabrooks, Centre Village; six grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and a sister, Marceline (Carmel) Briggs, Truro, NS. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles; six brothers, John, Edgar, Alphie, Willie, Adolphe and Eddie; and by sisters, Rita, Ida, Edna and Lena. The remains are resting at the Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge Street, Sackville (364-1300) with visitation Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. HOOGENDYK, GERALD JACOBUS Gerald Jacobus Hoogendyk of Jacksonville, husband of Annie M. (Schuttenbeld) Hoogendyk, passed away at his residence on Friday, January 28, 2005, at the age of 82. Born in Holland, he was the son of the late Gerard and Maria (Kaag) Hoogendyk. In addition to his wife, Gerald is survived by his son, John and his wife Anne of Elgin, Ontario; seven grandchildren, Mark Hoogendyk, Elizabeth Hoogendyk, Emily Hoogendyk, Peter Hoogendyk, Angela Hussey, Andre Hoogendyk, and Monica Hoogendyk. Gerald was predeceased by a son, Gerald Jan Hoogendyk in 1995. Visiting was held at The Scott Funeral Home, 815 Main Street, Woodstock, on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Payne: Pearl Valentine (nee Murray) 1925 - 2005 Pearl Valentine Payne (nee Murray), beloved wife of Mr. Bernard Payne of Calgary, passed away on Saturday, January 29, 2005 at the age of 79 years. Pearl was born on February 14, 1925 in Drumheller, AB. She received her education at the one room schoolhouse in Craighton School, Drumheller High School and Calgary Business College. Pearl worked as secretary for an accounting firm in Drumheller and was the private secretary for Calgary Transit System. Pearl married Bernard Payne on June 9, 1951. She was a member of the Kinette Club, the First Canadian Collector Club and the Southwest Seniors Club and enjoyed many winters in Arizona. Besides her beloved husband Bernard, Pearl is survived by her three sons and one daughter and their spouses, Dorothy MacKay-Holmberg and Brian Holmberg of Cochrane, AB, Doug Payne, Don and Janet Payne, and Dave and Melissa Payne, all of Calgary. She is also survived by her three grandsons MacKenzie, Daniel and Cade; and her great-granddaughter Chantelle MacKay; as well as her sisters Kay Whipple, Mona Tyler and Mavis McKay. Loving father of Antonio (Anna) of Sudbury, Joseph (Wendy) of South Porcupine, Frank (Christine) of Mississauga, Dino (Theresa) and Nino (Linda) both of Barrie. Cherished grandfather of Jason, Christina, Jennifer, Yolanda, Melissa, Virginia, Grazio, Yolanda, Jessica, Natalie and Cynthia. Treasured brother of Elisabetta (Giuseppi) Garito of South Porcupine, Lucia (late Pasquale) Marruggio of Italy, Antonio (Antonia) Sangiuliano of Toronto, Margherita (late Antonio) Riso of Toronto and Nicolina (late Salvatore) Guidari of Italy. He was born in Gagliato, Catanzaro, Italy and immigrated to Canada in 1957. Grazio worked in mines across Canada and retired from the Dome Mine in 1989. He was both a business man and an entrepeneur who enjoyed cooking, gardening, carpentry and helping others. He was a past volunteer with St. John's Ambulance.Grazio leaves behind numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and many friends. Sidney Joseph Arceneaux, age 83, died on Sunday, January 30, 2005 at 9:25 A.M. A native and lifelong resident of Houma, LA. A retired Pumper for Texaco, a member of the VFW, he also served in the United States Army during WWII and a parishioner of St. Bernadette Catholic Church. Born in New Bedford, Mass., March 21, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Edmund and Exilda (Robichaud) Babineau. Mrs. Corcoran was raised in New Bedford and lived in Medway from 1959 until 1977, when she moved to Colorado, where she lived until moving to Florida in 1995. A homemaker, she loved to sew and make quilts. She was a member of the league of the Blessed Mother. Survivors include two sons, Daniel and his wife, Rosemary and Richard and his wife, Maria, all of Dunnellon; two daughters, Patricia Burton and her husband, Craig of Natick, Mass., and Kathleen Lobisser and her husband, John of Bellingham, Mass; a brother, Simon Babineau of Framingham, Mass; three sisters, Laura Peirce of Middleboro, Mass.,, Eva Hall of Eustis and Theresa Britto of East Bridgewater, Mass.; a sister-in-law, Lorraine Nolan of Swansea, Mass.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. RUMFORD - Christopher J. Chiasson, 78, of Hall Avenue, died Sunday, Jan. 30, at his home surrounded by his family.He was born in New Brunswick, Canada, on Jan. 11, 1927, a son of Jacob and Agatha (Freolet) Chiasson."Chris" was educated in Rumford schools and was a graduate of Stephens High School, Class of 1948.He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.He was employed for over 42 years with Oxford Paper Company.He was a communicant of St. Athanasius & St. John Catholic Church and sang in the Choir since the age of 15. He was a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus, a Life Member of the American Legion Post 24, the V.F.W. Post 1641 and a volunteer for the Chisholm Ski Club for many years.He enjoyed making model airplanes, dancing, traveling and boating. He also loved family gatherings - especially at his summer home at Roxbury Pond.He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Eileen (Blanchard) Chiasson; five sons, Timothy Chiasson of Rumford, Gary Chiasson and wife, Astrid, of Standish, Christopher L. Rose L. (Denis) Dussault, 82, of Pershing St., Nashua died Thursday January 27, 2005 at her home surrounded by her family after a long illness. Mrs. Dussault was born in Nashua on January 24, 1923 a daughter of the late Emile & Anna (Turcotte) Denis. She was the widow of Emilien Dussault who died May 30, 1961.Mrs. Dussault was a lifelong resident of Nashua. Mrs. Dussault had been employed by Nashua Mills, Bradlees, as a monitor for the Nashua School District and finally retiring after working 10 years at St. Joseph Hospital. She enjoyed traveling, crafts and quilting blankets for family members. Mrs. Dussault was an avid reader and she enjoyed spending time with family and will be very much missed. PRINCETON -- Eloise Keaton Goreau, 82, a Professor of English literature, whose high standards, generosity, passion for her subject and unwavering dedication informed the teaching of several generations of students, died Friday after a long illness.Eloise Keaton was born Dec. 17, 1922 in Memphis, TN, to Mack and Bertha Hemby Keaton. After winning the Tennessee State Competition in Latin, a remarkable accomplishment for a girl of her time and place, she received a B.A. and M.A. from the University of Tennessee.She taught literature at Louisiana State University at Baton Rouge, with Cleanth Brooks and Robert Penn Warren as her colleagues, in the years that saw the birth of New Criticism. Later, she also taught at Tulane University.After completing her Doctorate at Rutgers University, she taught at Douglass College and for many years was on the English faculty of Rider University. Her interests ranged widely from Ben Jonson and Shakespeare to Dickens, W.B. Yeats, Faulkner, and Ernest Gaines. For many years, Dr. Goreau taught courses in Elizabethan literature, the Bible as literature, the Celtic Revival, and Southern literature. She was an adept in the nearly lost art of grammar. But she was, above all, a superb teacher of writing.The granddaughter of a Presbyterian minister, she converted to Catholicism two decades ago. She was a parishioner of St. Paul's in Princeton and a devoted member of the Catholic Campus Ministry at Rider University.She is survived by a daughter, Angeline Goreau, and three grandchildren, Keaton Angeline McGruder, Keaton Butler Goreau, and Ryan Wilson Goreau. SIMONE MARIE (RACINE) VANIER ADDISON — Simone Marie (Racine) Vanier, 92, died peacefully Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, surrounded by her family and caregivers in the Ringer Home Care in Vergennes. She was born Aug. 21, 1912, in Casselman, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of Wilfred and Beresina (Thibert) Racine. She married Albert Vanier on Oct. 30, 1937. He predeceased her on Sept. 19, 1996. In 1948, they moved to the U.S.A. In 1950, they moved to Addison, where she and her husband farmed together side by side until their retirement, then they built a new home next to the farm. In 1997, after her husband died, she returned to Canada, where she was born and raised. She never learned the English language so she returned to Casselman, where it's a French speaking town, and was able to communicate with her family and friends, and she was very happy there. Also she loved to read, knit and enjoyed cooking for her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Gisele and James Litch of Addison, and Gislaine (Gigi) and William Uzzell of Colchester; two sons and their wives, Bernard and Fleur Ange Vanier of Addison, and Serge and Nancy Vanier of Cornwall; 11 grand- children; 17 great-grandchildren; one brother, Donat Racine of Casselman; one sister, Theresa Beauchamp of Quebec, Canada; and many sisters-in-law, which she loved; and one brother-inlaw. She was predeceased by five brothers and a sister. We want to thank Jim and Monica Ringer and their staff for the excellent care they gave to our mother. We also want to thank Rita Baccei for being there for mom, and also the staff from Addison County Home Health Care. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, in St. Peter Catholic Church in Vergennes. Interment will be in Prospect Cemetery in Vergennes. Evelyn Hay SHEDIAC, NB - Evelyn Hay, 94, of the Beausjour Nursing Home, Shediac, formally of the Miramichi, passed away at The Moncton City Hospital on Thursday, January 27, 2005. Born in Chatham the daughter of the late Adam and Gertrude (Trevor) Hay. She is survived by a sister, Lenore (NoNo) Wallace of Pointe de Chene, several nieces and nephews. Phyllis Jean Lenoir 65, Indianapolis, died January 27, 2005. She worked for the Indiana State Department, and retired after 27 years as a production worker for RCA. She also volunteered at Wishard Hospital as a home companion. She received awards for her volunteer work and was an active member of the Womens Auxiliary Post 249. She was the daughter of Mary Lou Taylor and James Williams, born January 18, 1940 in DesMoines, Iowa. Phyllis' early years were spent in DesMoines, Iowa, Denver, Colorado and Peru, Indiana. In 1961 she moved to Indianapolis, Indiana. Phyllis was united in marriage to William Lenoir, Jr. in 1964, and to this union came six sons. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, February 3, 2005 at Williams & Bluitt Funeral Home, with calling there from 11 a.m. until service time -and from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, February 2, 2005. BELL, ALLISON GERALD On January 27, 2005 at the Kingston General Hospital in Ontario, Allison Gerald Bell, formerly of Lakeville, NB. Born June 9, 1942 to the late Gerald and Marion (Speer) Bell. He is survived by sisters Fran Good (James) of Douglas, NB, Kathryn Bell of Canterbury, NB and a very special niece, Karen (Perry) Dobbelsteyn, an aunt, Mary Speer, a special friend Aileen Ruckstuhl of Trenton Ontario, and several cousins. Allison graduated from Centreville Regional High School in 1960 and was a retired member of the Canadian Air Force. He had been stationed at several bases in Ontario and Quebec and served in Cyprus during the Gulf War. He retired at Trenton in 1992. Visitation will be held at the Carleton Funeral Home 337 Lockhart Mill Road, Jacksonville, NB on January 31, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral service will be held on February 1, 2005 from the Funeral Home with Rev. Dan Sentner officiating. Interment will be in the Lakeville Cemetery at a later date. WOOD, JUDITH EVELYN (née NORTON) Judy Wood of Fredericton, NB passed away at the DECH on Saturday, January 29, 2005. Born June 19, 1953 in Broken Hill, Northern Rhodesia, she was a daughter of Stuart and Elsie (Loxton) Norton, and the wife of Michael Wood. Judy will be remembered as a compassionate, intelligent and courageous woman who cherished her family and friends. She touched many lives with her ready smile, quiet strength, and ability to encourage and help others. Judy was awarded a Bachelor of Nursing degree from UNB (Fredericton) in 1974, and was very fulfilled by the opportunity to care for mothers and babies during her service as a registered nurse. Judy was an active proponent of lifelong learning and continued education, and graduated from St. Thomas University in 1997 with an Honours degree in History. Judy was an avid reader with a large collection of well-thumbed books. In her spare time, she created many beautiful cross-stitched items for family and friends to treasure, and helped make several lovely quilts. Judy was a faithful parishioner at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Lincoln, and participated in a number of church ministries. Among other volunteer activities, Judy led Brownies and Guides, assisted with school and extra-curricular activities, participated in the St. John Ambulance brigade, and provided pastoral care. Judy is survived by her loving husband of 31 years, Mike; parents Stuart and Elsie Norton; son Chris of St. John's, NL; daughter Leigh of Bathurst, NB; sister Merrill Beatty (Nicholas Susak) and brother Dr. Stuart Norton Jr. (Ruth), both of Fredericton. She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Betty Wood, of Fredericton; aunts, Daphne Burns and Mavis Smith of South Africa and Anita Heyneke of Zimbabwe; and several brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, close friends, and extended family across North America and Africa. Older sister Cheryl Norton predeceased Judy in infancy. Visitation will take place at McAdam's Select Community Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 1st, 2005 from 7-9 pm. The funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Wednesday, February 2nd, 2005 at 7:00 pm with Rev. Monte Peters as celebrant.
