LACKEY, Elva Rose (Nee McFall) On Friday, January 28, 2005, Elva Rose Lackey, departed life at age 74 after a courageous battle with illness. Beloved wife of Robert Charles for 54 years. Loving, devoted mother of four children: Robert (Joy), Patrick (Nancy), Janet (Laurie) and Kathryn (James). Proud and loving grandmother of Tricia, Robbie, Jillian, Christine, Emma and Alison. Predeceased by her parents, Felix and Rose McFall of Montreal. Deeply missed by her dear and loving sister Patricia (Mike) and her cousin Nini (Frank). Fondly remembered and missed by the members of her extended family and her dear and loving friends. Elva was a strong, warm, loving and compassionate woman who had a big heart and a dear, sweet, kind, caring, thoughtful and generous nature. She was devoted to her family and friends and was a person who always put the needs of the others ahead of her own. She was an avid reader and a lover of art and entertainment. She was loved and will be greatly missed by all of those who knew her. At her request, there will be no public visitation. A funeral mass, in honour of her memory, will take place at 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, February 2nd, at Canadian Martyrs Parish, 100 Main Street, Ottawa, Ontario. Reception to follow in the parish hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. A special thank you to the doctors who cared for Elva, the nurses and staff at the Alta Vista Manor, as well as the OCCAC home care staff for their splendid efforts, support and compassion. Dear, sweet and loving angel, may you have eternal peace and happiness and know that you are loved eternally and will forever remain in the thoughts, hearts and memories of the lives you touched so deeply. SHAW, A. Hubert Peacefully in his sleep, Sunday, January 30, 2005. Arthur (Hubert) Shaw, in his 90th year. Beloved husband of Betty Shaw (nee Gifford) of R. R. 1 Prescott. Loving father of Clair Shaw (Marilyn) of Cardinal and Sheila Barkley of Gloucester. Fondly remembered by grandchildren Carolyn and Michael Shaw of Brockville. Step granddad of Marc Herbison (Brenda) of Prescott and Brent Herbison (Linda) of Kingston. Also survived by three great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his first wife Gladys Elliott, his daughter Shirley, an infant son, his stepdaughter Janet Herbison LaRose and his sister Isobel. At Hubert's request, there will be no public service held. Cremation will take place at the Roselawn Tribute Centre and Crematorium, Maitland with interment at Maple Ridge Cemetery, Chesterville in the spring. WATSON, Russell (Russ) In hospital on Saturday, January 29, 2005 at the age of 89 years. Beloved husband of Irene and loving father of Bruce (Judy) and Kathy (Bob Hiland). Special Grampy of Brent and Stacey. Survived by brother Bill and sister Lois Babcock. Predeceased by sister Jean Schlievert and brothers Lorne, Bob and Ken. Russ served in WWII with the Royal Canadian Air Force. He went on to a career with Bell Canada and retired in 1977 after forty years of service. He was a past president of the Carleton Heights Curling Club and a long time member of Carleton Memorial United Church. Frank Alfred Dobson WOLFVILLE, NS - Frank Alfred Dobson, 82, of Wolfville, Kings Co., NS passed away Saturday, January 29, 2005 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born May 21, 1922 in Moncton, NB, he was the son of the late William and Violet (Power) Dobson, Moncton, NB. Frank served as a Telegraphist (Special Operator) in the R.C.N.V.R., during the Second World War, overseas. He served on the ship The Haida. Frank also was Chief Engineer at Texaco Oil from 1953 to 1983. Besides his parents, Frank was predeceased by his wife, Joyce; sister, Mabel; and brother, Edward. He will be greatly missed by many friends. At Mr. Dobson's request, cremation has taken place, and there will be no visitation or memorial service. Lewis Dawson "Bud" Reynolds 1924 - 2005 EDGETT'S LANDING, NB - Lewis Dawson "Bud" Reynolds, 80, of Edgett's Landing, NB, passed away on January 28, 2005 at his home after a lengthy illness. Bud was born in Edgett's Landing on May 29, 1924 the son of the late John and Clara (Fales) Reynolds. Bud worked as a truck driver for the Provincial Government, and also worked at T.P. Downey & Sons until his retirement. He was a veteran and served in World War II. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Lillian "Billie" (Hillman) Reynolds; three sons, Rodney "Duff", John and Donn; daughter-in-law, Dorothy "Dot" Reynolds; and half sister, Beulah Taylor, all of the Hillsborough area. He will also be deeply missed by his seven grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his son, Keith; infant brother, Frank; sister, Nellie Ricker; half sister, Thelma Norris; and half brother, Alfred Milton. Resting at the Albert County Funeral Home with visitation on Sunday afternoon from 2 to 4pm. Ernest William Stuart 1920 - 2005 Ernest William Stuart, of Moncton, passed away at The Moncton Hospital in Moncton on Friday, January 28, 2005 at the age of 84. Born in Scotch Settlement, NB, he was the son of the late William and Elizabeth (Gray) Stuart. He was a veteran of WWII serving in Normandy (France), Belgium, Holland and Germany from 1941-1945. Herman Melanson 1916 - 2005 Herman Jules Joseph Melanson, passed away at The Moncton Hospital on Friday, January 28, 2005. Born in Moncton, he was the son of the late William and Anna (Gaudet) Melanson. He was owner of Melanson's Auto Electric and was a Veteran of the Second World War, serving with the Royal Canadian Air Force. He was a former Councilor for the town of Dieppe and he was former Chairman of the Local District for Fox Creek. He was a member of the School District Counsel and he served on the Board for the Caisse Populaire in St. Anselme. He also served on the Ability Transit and on the Codiac Transit Commission for many years. He was Honorary Chairman of the Dieppe Veterans Association. In 1992, he was presented the 125th Commemorative Medal of the Confederation of Canada in recognition for his volunteer work to his community. Herman will be sadly missed by his wife of 57 years, Marie (Galley) Melanson and children, Marcel (Sharon Ivany), Germaine (Eugene LeBlanc), Alice (Francois Gagnon), Herman (Susan Leger) and David (Elizabeth Hemphill); eight grandchildren, Steven, Shelly, Patricia, Eugene, Andre, Philippe, Joey and Alexandre; two great grandchildren, Abraham and Halley. Frances Mildred Brewster 1923 - 2005 Frances Mildred Brewster, passed away on Sunday, January 30, 2005 at The Moncton City Hospital with her family by her side. Frances was born in Wheatley, England on March 2, 1923, the daughter of the late Florence Barrett. Frances was a housewife and homemaker and attended the Anglican Church. Frances was a war bride and married Kenneth Brewster in England in 1942. She and Kenneth came back to Canada in 1945 to raise their family. She was an avid gardener and loved her many flowers. She will be deeply missed by her three daughters, Daphne Wilbur (Harold), Darlene Brewster, and Dianna Young (Daniel) all of Hillsborough; three sons, Peter Brewster and William "Bill" Brewster, both of Harvey, and Gilbert Brewster (Bernice) of Moncton; daughter-in-law, Shirley Brewster of Hillsborough; her nine grandchildren, Sherry, Lesley, Lisa, Laura, Julie, Joni, Sarah, Angela and Jeremy; her six great grandchildren, Addison, Nathan, Rebecca, MacKenzie, Hailee and Issac. She will also be sadly missed by her cousin, Ann Flowers of Ottawa, and by her remaining family members in England. BURNS, PATRICK J. The death of Patrick J. Burns of Fredericton occurred, January 30th, 2005 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. He was the son of John Burns and Veronica (O'Leary), born on January 7, 1913, at Saint John, New Brunswick where he received his education attending local elementary schools, St. Vincent Boys High School and Saint John Vocational. Upon graduation, he entered the employ of the Canadian Press, the Evening Times Globe and the Telegraph Journal. In the mid 1930's, he entered the field of transportation with SMT serving in successive management capacities in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. With the advent of Acadian Coach Lines, the successor of SMT in Nova Scotia, he was appointed to a management position and served in Truro where he met his wife, Edna Purdy. In 1940, he was appointed General Manager of Golden Arrow Coach Lines operating in St. John's, Newfoundland, a position he held for several years. Upon his return to Canada, he joined the New Brunswick Electric Power Commission and was charged with organizing its transportation department and served as Superintendent of Transportation for several years until he was appointed as the Commission's Corporate Secretary in 1960, a position he held until his retirement in 1982. While living in Saint John, he served in executive positions in various sports activities, especially baseball, including the positions of Secretary and Director of the New Brunswick Senior Baseball League. This interest in baseball followed him on his move to Fredericton in that he was one of the founding members of the Fredericton Little League and served as its President for several years. In addition to his sporting interests, he served in various positions in the Junior Chamber of Commerce in Saint John and the Maritimes. As a resident of Fredericton, he was active in Church related organizations having served as President of St. Dunstan's Holy Name Society, Chairman of the Organizing Committee leading to the development and construction of the Monsignor Boyd Family Center. He was also active in the development and construction of the new St. Dunstan's Church. He was one of the organizers and Charter members of St. Dunstan's Credit Union (later to become York Credit Union) and served on its executive for a number of years. He was active in charitable organizations and served on the executive of York Manor, York Properties Inc. and York County Development Inc. He was also President and served on the Executive Board of Provincial Artisans (Fredericton) Ltd. for many years. He was a member of the 25 year club of NB Power, a life member of the Chartered Institute of Secretaries and Administrators of Canada and a member of the Fredericton Rotary Club. He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years Edna (Purdy), his son Kevin P. (Wendy) of Fredericton, sisters Nina Poirier of Saint John, Jean VanOudenal of Vancouver and Anne Y. Burns of Ottawa, and brothers Joseph (Eleanor/Eileen) of Moncton, Frank (May) of Saint John and Maurice (Billie) of Saint John. He is survived by one son, Richard P. (Susan) of Fredericton, granddaughters Carrie, Sara and Jane all of Fredericton, a sister Gertrude (Albert Hanley) of Saint John and several nieces and nephews. There will be no visitation by family request. The funeral mass will be held at St. Dunstan's Church, Fredericton on Tuesday, February 1st, 2005 at 12 Noon. Msgr. Brian Sheehan will officiate. Born 1940 in Saint John, daughter of the late Harris and Greta (Shonaman) Reinhart. Joan worked as a Health Care Aid for many years retiring in 1998. She was also a strong supporter and advocate of Organized Labor. Besides her husband Theodore, she is survived by her three sons Theodore (Al), Danny (Peggy) and Derek (Catherine) all of Saint John; grandchildren Dylan Campbell, Kimberley and Kayley Jones, Brandon and Nathaniel Dow; brothers Gordon Reinhart (Dot) of Fredericton and Walter Reinhart (Connie) of Saint John; sisters Mary Ericson (Olie) of Alberta and Lorna Reinhart (Mike Mullins) of Saint John; one uncle Wilford (Buddy) Reinhart; several cousins, nieces and nephews. LESLIE, HERBERT WATSON - The death of Mr. Herbert Watson Leslie, 67, of Back Bay NB, husband of Mary Diana (Larsen) Leslie, occurred on Saturday January 29, 2005, at the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, NB. Born in Blacks Harbour, NB, on August 17, 1937, he was a son of the late Herbert Watson Leslie and Thelma Disilvia (Hooper) Leslie. He was a self employed fisherman with a great love of the outdoors and especially being on the water. Surviving besides his wife Mary, are four daughters: Marilyn Leslie (Randy Weaver) of Pennfield, Kimberley Cook (Michael) of Back Bay, Velda Leslie (Ricky Wright) of Beaver Harbour, and Carla Leslie (Jarvis Cooke) of Back Bay; six sisters, Barb Leavitt (Albert) of L'Etete, Gail Carvell (Hughie) of Saint John, Gloria Clone (Paul) of St. Stephen, Kathleen Seeley (Louis) of Zealand, NB, Josephine Gullison (Glenwood) of St. Stephen and Connie Leslie Martinez (Gavier) of St. Stephen; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. MacLEOD, D. RODERICK - The death of Donald Roderick MacLeod, of 365 Balmoral Crescent, Saint John West, occurred peacefully on Saturday, January 29, 2005 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on January 20, 1917 in Montreal, Quebec, he was the son of the late Donald and Christy MacLeod. Mr. MacLeod was employed with Irving Equipment for 27 years, retiring at the age of 75, as Technical Manager. Previously, he had been employed with Rayner Construction and Modern Construction in Moncton. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and was a long standing member of St. Columba Presbyterian Church. He was a very generous man who will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Martha Jean (Kercher); one daughter, Christy E. Belyea of Bayswater; one son, Donald W. McLeod (Shelley) of Quispamsis; twin sisters, Katherine MacLennan of Fredericton and Margaret Mode of Vankleek Hill, ON; brother-in-law, Dr. Jack McMartin of Montreal; four grandchildren, Rod Belyea (Lori), Andrew Belyea (Patricia), Emily McLeod and Patrick McLeod; several nieces and nephews. OUELLETTE, MARY G. - The death of Mary G. Ouellette of 382 St. Clair Avenue, Saint John West, wife of the late Ivan LeBlanc and the late Placide Ouellette, occurred on Saturday, January 29, 2005 at St. Joseph's Hospital. Born on January 3, 1919, in Moncton, NB, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Philomen (Landry) Richard. Mrs. Ouellette was a Nurses Assistant at the General Hospital for several years and then served as the interpreter in the cancer ward of the old General Hospital. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Parish and their CWL and was a member of the Dennis Morris Community Center. She is survived by three sons, Paul LeBlanc (Claudia) of Saint John, Richard LeBlanc (Linda) of Hampton and Emery LeBlanc of Saint John; four daughters, Muriel Langlais (Emile), Dianna Chaisson, Alma Doiron (John) all of Saint John and Shirley Musson (Tony) of Regina, SK; two sisters, Flavie LeBlanc and Shirley Gaudet, both of Moncton; many grandchildren; great grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and step-children, Tilda Richard, Lily Ouellette, Ronald Ouellette (Margo), Leo Ouellette (Margaret) and Robert Ouellette (Ruth). He was in the Canadian Armed Forces (Navy) for 25 years and then went on to work with Public Works Canada for 16 years, retiring in 1995. Both Richard and Mary were involved with the Canadian Canoe Association, Richard being a nationally accredited official. He also loved woodworking and reading. Richard will be greatly missed and is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, the former Mary Sylvia Mello; daughter, Kathy (Jim), Dartmouth; sons, Joe (Karen), Riverview, N.B.; Mike, Chezzetcook; grandchildren, Rick, Jordan, Matthew, Lauren, Elliott, Aidan; uncles, Louis Quinn, Prescott, Ont.; Wilfred Quinn, Cornwall, Ont.; several cousins throughout Canada and the United States. He was one of a kind; a wonderful father and poppie and will be dearly missed by all his family and friends. Marianne Margaret Naworynski August 20, 1935 - January 28, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Glen Eden Funeral Home (Winnipeg) On January 28, 2005 after a courageous battle with cancer, Marianne Naworynski passed away peacefully at the Riverview Health Centre with her loving husband Gordon and daughter Andrea at her side. Marianne will be greatly missed by her devoted husband of 33 years, Gordon; daughter Andrea (Jeremy) Giesbrecht; grandchildren, Luke and Jamison. She will also be missed by her brothers, Allan (Millie), Edward (Anne) and Wayne (Wendy); sisters-in-law, Elsie, Grzenda (Joseph) and Gina Naworynski; brother-in-law Ken (Pat); and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Walter and Frances; parents-in-law, Walter and Mary; brother-in-law Joey; and sister-in-law Adeline. Marianne was born in Zbaraz, MB on August 20, 1935 where she spent her childhood. She then moved to Winnipeg to attend Kelvin High School. She then worked in the accounting offices of Prudential Life and several other companies. She married Gordon on October 14, 1972, first living in Toronto for two years. During which time their daughter Andrea was born. They then moved back to Winnipeg. Marianne was devoted to her family and will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Her grandsons were the love of her life. A memorial service will be celebrated at Glen Eden Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 1 at 2:00 p.m. Interment and reception will follow. WELSH, Jonathan, Peacefully in his sleep at home in Belleville, Ontario in the early morning on Thursday, January 27th, 2005, aged 57. Jon was a veteran actor, dedicated diarist, promoter of the arts, published author, devoted father, local history buff, oenophile, entrepreneur, collector of friends, voracious reader, spectacular uncle, award winner and steadfast, loving husband. Born and raised in St. Catharines in 1947, Jon was the second of three brothers, At 18, he ran away from home to bec ome an actor and landed a lead role in the original cast of Hair at Toronto's Royal Alexandra Threatre in Toronto in the late 60's. As his career developed, he branched out to Stratford, the Neptune Theatre in Halifax and then to television and film. A member of the Toronto Arts and Letters Club, he wrote and published a poem, "Letter to the West Wind" about the life of artist Tom Thompson. An avid sports fan, Jon met his wife Heather in 1972, on the way to the Canada-Russia hockey game in Winni peg. They married in 1974. Through their 30 years of marriage, Jon relied upon Heather for direction and stability and a sense of family; she relied upon him for fun, surprise and the comfort of constancy. Together they raised three beautiful and lov ing children, Hilary (now 20), Owen (18) and Julia (15). Jon shared his quirky sense of humour with Hilary, cuddles with Julia and unwanted hockey advise with Owen, of whose 6'2" height he was ridiculously proud! Jon's acting career was his "main gig ". And included countless plays, four national Canadian television series along with a host of other TV appearances, and over 10 feature films. He served on the Executive of ACTRA and more recently on the Board of the Quinte Arts Council in Bellevill e. Jon wrote, produced and starred in The New World Wine Tour, a series designed to demystify wine-making and introduce Canadians to their own fine wines. His book "The TV Wine Guy" was a delightful combination of information about Ontario wines and historical stories about the Niagara Region. In 2002, he was honoured by Niagara College with an honourary Diploma in Hospitality and Tourism. Because of his many friends and colleagues in two communities, services for Jonathan will be held at both C hrist Church, 39 Everett Street, Belleville on Wednesday, February 2nd at 1:00 p.m. and at Little Trinity Church, King Street East, Toronto at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 5th. Herman Melanson (1916-2005) l'Acadie Nouvelle - 31 janvier 2005 - À l’Hôpital de Moncton, le vendredi 28 janvier 2005, est décédé Herman Jules Joseph Melanson. Né à Moncton, il était fils de feu William et Anna (Gaudet) Melanson. Herman manquera beaucoup à son épouse depuis 57 ans, Marie (Galley) Melanson et à ses enfants: Marcel (Sharon Ivany), Germaine (Eugene LeBlanc), Alice (Francois Gagnon), Herman (Susan Leger) et David (Elizabeth Hemphill); huit petits-enfants: Steven, Shelly, Patricia, Eugene, Andre, Philippe, Joey et Alexandre; deux arrière-petits-enfants: Abraham et Halley. Deux frères: Paul et Ben, ainsi que trois soeurs: Jeanne, Therese et Yvonne, l’ont précédé dans la tombe. M. Melanson était un vétéran de la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Il a servi avec la Force aérienne du Canada. Il était propriétaire de Melanson’s Auto Electric. Il était un ancien conseiller de la Ville de Dieppe et un ancien président du district des services locaux de Fox Creek. Il était membre du conseil du district scolaire et a servi au sein du conseil de la Caisse populaire de Saint-Anselme. Il a également servi à la Commission Ability Transit et Codiac Transit pendant plusieurs années. Il a été président honoraire de l’Association des vétérans de Dieppe. En 1992, il a reçu la médaille commémorative du 125e de la Confédération du Canada, en reconnaissance de son travail bénévole pour sa communauté. La famille aimerait offrir leurs remerciements et leur gratitude au Dr Kim Deware et au Dre Sylvie LeBlanc, ainsi qu’aux infirmières privées de Moncton pour leurs soins et leur compassion envers Herman. La dépouille mortelle sera exposée à compter de 14h, le mardi 1er février, à la Maison funéraire Tuttle Bros., 171, rue Lutz, à Moncton (www.tuttlefuneralhome.com)Les funérailles auront lieu en l’église Saint-Bernard, le mercredi 2 février, à 11h. L’inhumation se fera au cimetière Notre-Dame-du-Calvaire, au printemps. L’Association des vétérans militaires de Dieppe et la Légion royale canadienne, section no 6, organisent un service mémorial, le mardi 1er février, à 18h45. Heures de visites: le mardi 1er février, de 14h à 16h et de 19h à 21h. Dear mother of Danny Lapierre of B.C., Wade Lapierre (Dee) of New York State, Tim Lapierre of Kingston, Mike and Jeff Bingley both of Vernon B.C., Ted Bingley of Cornwall, Dale Bingley (Judy) and Randy Bingley all of Ottawa and Sandra Lapierre of Cornwall. Loving grandmother of Jason Lapierre (Jenna) Erica Lapierre, Carson and Madison Bingley, Jessica, Jolene, Chase and Lane Lapierre and Damien Poirier and great-grandmother of five great-grandchildren. Dear daughter of the late Alfred Rogers and the late Yvonne Guilbeault. Also survived by a very special friend, Roger Poirier.
