Survived by his siblings; Nick DiBrizzi(Wife Giuseppina), Antonietta Calandriello (husband John) all of Chicago, Rosario DiBrizzi of Caracas, Venezuela and Rosaria Tierno of Italy. Predeceased by his siblings; the late Angelina Pinto (surviving husband Giuseppe) of Timmins, the late Franco DiBrizzi (surviving wife Rosina) of Italy and the late Rosina (surviving husband Michele) of Venezuela. Uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. Giuseppe was born on January 8, 1928 in Sassano, Italy. He came to Canada in 1949 and has resided in Timmins since 1951. Dr. Kenneth Edward Scott HALIFAX, NS - Dr. Kenneth Edward Scott (MDCM, FRCP, M.Sc., FSS), 75, passed away on Wednesday, January 28, 2004 in Northwood Center after a lengthy illness. Born in Montreal, he was a son of the late Malcolm and Miriam (Buckby) Scott. He moved to Halifax in 1964 and joined the Faculty of Medicine at Dalhousie Medical School. As well, he was on staff at the former Grace Maternity Hospital in the neonatal unit. Ken was a former member of the Armdale Yacht Club and was a member of the Society of Friends (Quakers). He loved to hike, sail and cycle. He is survived by daughters, Anne (Sean) Connors of Moncton, Meryn (Philip) Bodman of Brisbane, Australia; son, Michael (Nancy) Scott of Chase, BC; grandchildren, Sarah and Ian Connors and Madeleine and Danielle Scott; sisters, Lisa Hauer, Michigan USA, Miriam Scott Armstrong, BC; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by brother Bruce and sister Beryl. Cremation has taken place. A private family internment to take place at a later date. The family would like to thank the staff of 9 Center at Northwood Center, for the compassionate care extended to Ken and his family. Anne Tower SACKVILLE, NB - The death of Anne Tower, age 86, of Twin Birch Lodge, Shemogue and formerly of Sackville, occurred on Thursday, January 29, 2004 at the Sackville Memorial Hospital Born in Dorchester, she was a daughter of the late Frederick and Annie Belle (Shannon) Miller. Anne was a former member of the LTBA # 176, Sackville. Anne will be sadly missed by her son, Larry (Terry), of Moncton and her daughters, Shirley Anne Ward, Kathy Tower and special granddaughter, Beverly (Dean) Leaman, all of Sackville; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; a sister, Frances Murphy of New York. She was predeceased by her husband, Norman and sons Kenneth and Robert (Bob) and sister Edna Miller. Miss E. Hazel Tweedie 1902-2004 KOUCHIBOUGUAC, NB - Miss Elizabeth Hazel Tweedie, retired R.N., of the Sullivan Road, Kouchibouguac, passed away at the Stella Maris Hospital, Ste. Marie de Kent, on Thursday evening, January 29, 2004, at the age of 101. Born in Kouchibouguac, on October 14, 1902, she was the daughter of the late William M. and Helen (Potter) Tweedie. Hazel was a registered nurse by profession and a graduate of the Miramichi Hospital School of Nursing, class of 1930. She worked as an assistant to Dr. F.W. Kenney, in the Rexton area for many years. Until her retirement, she was employed in the Moncton area, working mainly as a private duty nurse. She is survived by two sisters, Eleanor (Blanche) Tweedie, of Kouchibouguac and Inez Jenkins, of Napan; one brother, Wallace Tweedie, of Kouchibouguac; as well as several nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by six sisters, Josa Tighe, Christina Callander, Louise Kay, Lillian Norman Sands, Dorothy Tweedie and Neta Tweedie; one brother, John Tweedie; one sister in law, Corena Tweedie. Visiting will be held from St. James United church, Kouchibouguac, on Saturday, only, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral service will be held from St. James United Church, on Sunday, February 1, 2004, at 4 pm, conducted by Rev. Beth Johnson. Interment will be in the Knox-St. James Cemetery, later in the spring. Geoffrey Alan McBeath Geoff ,43, passed away surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. Born November 28, 1960 in Moncton, New Brunswick, he was the youngest son of Bill and Bertha McBeath. In addition to being a loving and dedicated dad, Geoff had many passions including his love of coaching and playing hockey, his love of music, his enjoyment of the water and family vacations at Caissie Cape, NB. Geoff was a member of the Association of Professional Engineers of Nova Scotia, the Association of Professional Engineers of New Brunswick, the Canadian Geotechnical Society and the American Society for Testing and Materials. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from University of New Brunswick and a Masters of Applied Sciences from the Technical University of Nova Scotia. Geoff was a partner in the firm of Maritime Testing Ltd., Dartmouth, the founder of EARTHTech Engineering Ltd. and a leader in the field of geotechnical engineering. He was very dedicated to and enjoyed working with his clients and colleagues. Besides his parents, Geoff is survived by his loving wife Jennifer (Jarvis); son, Jack and daughters, Marin and Taylor all at home. He is also survived by his brother Bill (Sue) of Riverview; sisters, Ann Fisher (Ross) and Claire Esson (Shane) both of Moncton and several nieces and nephews. Thanks to special friends and outstanding neighbors who supported and loved us. Your constant prayers gave us peace and carried us through this difficult time. Earl is survived by his loving wife Bertha of 61 years; his four daughters Carol (Al), Linda (Jim), Diana (Bill), and Bonnie (Bev); his nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; also his sister Isabelle and her family of Hinton, AB, and his sister-in-law Mavis of Lacombe, AB. Earl was predeceased by his only son, Allan Wayne; his parents Ross and Rebecca, and his younger brother, Russel. Earl was in the Canadian Army Internment Camp in Medicine Hat, AB from 1942 - 1944. He and Bertha were married in 1943. They returned to farm in the Hesketh area and farmed for 45 years. Earl worked in the coal mines during the winter. In Earl?s later years he worked as a Commissionaire at the Royal Tyrrell Museum and the Drumheller Penitentiary. He was an Elks member for close to 50 years and was on the patrol team for 16 years. He was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and the Masons. Earl enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid reader. Szmydt: Emmi March 19, 1923 - January 1, 2005 Mrs. Emmi Szmydt of Drumheller went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 1, 2005 with her loving family by her side. Emmi was born in Kubelki, Poland on March 19, 1923 to Lydia and Emanuel Distelberger. Emmi was the third eldest of seven children (three sisters, three brothers). Emmi came to Canada at the age of 26 and lived in Barrhead with her aunt and uncle Frohlich, this is where she met and married her husband Edward Szmydt in 1950. The couple then moved to the Drumheller Valley where Edward was employed in the mines and the C.N.R. and they raised their family of five children; Eileen, Anita, Irving, Erika and Randy. Emmi was a woman of great faith in the Lord, she took pride in passing her beliefs on to her children. Her church life and community in the Grace Lutheran Church were very important to her. Emmi?s husband Edward passed away at the age of 44 years, leaving her to raise her five children on her own. Her life revolved around her children and she enjoyed every minute of homemaking. In Emmi?s later years she enjoyed crocheting and babysitting, she received recognition for her fine handy work and various fairs at farmers markets. She traveled around Alberta to visit her family, and loved to go out for coffee with her many friends in town. Over the years Emmi often made cabbage rolls and donuts and thought nothing of it to go and deliver her homemade goods to people in town to enjoy. Her soft spot for little children found her sharing candies with them at every opportunity. She was so thankful for the support of her friends during the past twelve years while she lived at Maple Ridge Manor 2. Emmi leaves to cherish her memory her loving children, Eileen (Remi) Boisvert, Anita (Don) Bruce, Irving (Dale) Szymdt, Erika (Randy) Newsham, Randy Szymdt, grandchildren, Sheri (Bob) Tegart, Michelle (Bryan) Kincheloe, Mark Boisvert, Angie (Mirza) Delibegovic, Heather Bruce, Pamela Bruce, Matthew Bruce, Shannon Szmydt, Cory Szmydt, Ryley Newsham, one brother Eric Distelberger, sister Martha Baron, and her Grace Lutheran Church Family. Aaserud: Albert C. 1914 - 2005 Albert Aaserud, resident of Father Lacombe Care Centre in Calgary, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005. Forever in our hearts, he is lovingly remembered by: daughters Sharon Lejeune (René) and Dorothy Kempthorne (Gordon); grandchildren Léo Lejeune (Sylvia), Lisa Lejeune (Kevin Timanson), Todd Kempthorne, Katherine Kempthorne and Kristina Vimy (Aaron); great grandchildren Ariel Timanson and Christian Lejeune; sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his wife, Myrtle, parents Lena and Ole Aaserud, brothers Olaf, Berger, John and sister Anna, and grandsons Mark and Stephen Lejeune. Albert was born in the Craigmyle, Alberta district where he and his wife, Myrtle Moldon, farmed for 50 years. Service to the community included active membership and leadership in the church, Masons and R.E.A.L. With a passion for politics, he served as school trustee and 25 years as Counselor/Reeve of Starland Municipality. He will be fondly remembered for his enthusiasm for life, reflected by an encouraging, positive attitude toward people. Success in business was attributed to his ability to meet challenges and take risks. If ever there was an opportunity to play ball, play cards or socialize, Albert was there! Dart: Richard (Rick) Burk February 12, 1952 - January 2, 2005 It is with overwhelming sadness that we announce the passing of husband, father, son, uncle, friend and coach, Rick Dart. He died after a heroic battle against cancer at the Rosedale Hospice in Calgary, on the evening of Sunday, January 2, 2005. Rick was born in Drumheller and was raised on a farm near there. He moved to Calgary in 1971 and married Pam in Banff in 1974. A true craftsman, Rick worked in construction, most recently for Wescom Glass and Aluminum Ltd. As well as building, gardening, and cooking, Rick delighted in watching and coaching his daughters in the sport of fastball. He will be remembered for his honesty, hard work and sense of humour. Loved ones including wife Pam (Ball); daughters, Bre-Ann and Christie; and his mother Elsie (Balmforth) were by Rick?s side. His father John Dart predeceased him. Gordon passed away suddenly after a long hard fought battle with COPD. Rempfer: Virgil Jack 1937 - 2005 Virgil Jack Rempfer passed away peacefully at home on January 8, 2005 after a long battle with COPD. Virgil is survived by: his wife Anne, and children; Katherine and John of Carbon, Alberta, sister Leona (Dave) Palmer of Edmonton, nieces; Cindy (David) Roy of Wetaskiwin, Teri (Jeff) Egert of Pickardville, Alberta, and numerous other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his father Emil in 1987, and his mother Freida in 2001. Virgil was born on March 13, 1937 on his parents farm west of Irricana, Alberta. He moved to Carbon in 1948 and has resided there since. Virgil worked in McArthur Coal Mine and was M.D. of Kneehill before starting farming full time, a passion that he held right up until his passing, when ill health prevented him from actively farming he continued to "supervise" the work. Virgil's hobbies included baseball and curling, and as Katherine and John became involved in activities, he enjoyed watching and encouraging them in hockey, volleyball, basketball, and 4-H. At Virgil's request, no funeral service will be held. A private family Committal Service was conducted by Rev. Harold Hunter on Thursday, January 13, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. He was interred beside his beloved parents in Calgary. Thomas: Edna Lavella 1915 - 2005 Edna passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 20, 2005 in Lethbridge, AB. She was born Edna Lavella Lee on July 10, 1915 in Gopher Head, Alberta and was predeceased by her husband Ralph in 1987. She grew up in Big Valley and area. She then met the love of her life, Ralph Thomas, and lived in Rumsey, Morrin and then moved on to Rimbey with her family in 1960. Edna and family then moved to Calgary in 1970 and resided in this community for many years where she was very active with various clubs and the church. Edna will be sadly missed by her son, Robert Thomas and his wife Ellen and grandson Ryan; son Allan Thomas and granddaughter Danielle; daughter Trudy, husband John Harbidge, granddaughter Kelly and her husband Tim Siemens, and grandson Tyler; plus her goddaughter Arlene Hautzinger.
