Joan Jarman On May 14, 2004, Joan passed away peacefully at the Riverview Health Center. Joan will be sadly missed by her husband Larry of 60 years; son Rod; daughter Susan; son-in-law Edward; grandchildren Jordan and Whitney. Joan will also be remembered her brother Walt, cousin Jean and many friends and family in England. Joan will also be missed by many friends and extended family here in Canada. Joan was born and raised at Wallcrouch, Sussex. She attended school in Ticehurst. During the Second World War she joined the ATS and was attached to ACAC and the radio location division in Wales. In 1942, while on leave, she met Larry at a dance and on April 8, 1944 they married. She came to Winnipeg as a War-Bride in March 1946, and was active in the British Wives Club for many years. Joan was a homemaker and for 20 years worked part-time for Jack Andrews Pharmacy. After retirement, she enjoyed golfing and bowling. Joan loved to travel and enjoyed an active social life. God looked at his garden, And found an empty space. He then looked down upon the earth and saw your tired face. He put his arms around you, and lifted you to rest, God’s garden must be beautiful He only takes the best. Flowers are graciously declined, donations may be made in Joan’s name to the Canadian Cancer Society 193 Sherbrook St. Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7 or a charity of your choice. Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 18, 2004 at St. Chad’s Anglican Church, 3390 Portage Ave. Reverend Gordon Shields officiating. Reception will follow. Laden Yoklin (née Lepcha) April 23, 1933 - May 14, 2004 Peacefully at Etobicoke Hospital on Friday May 14th, 2004 at the age of 73 years. Laden, beloved wife of the late Samuel. Loving mother of Arlene (Trevor Joseph), Noreen (Roy Ngui-Hon-Sang), Rosy (Jim Lee), Kathleen (George Perreira) and Shirley. Mr. Fumitaka "Fumi" Kobayashi September 01, 1938 - May 12, 2004 Peacefully at home on Wednesday, May 12, 2004. Dear husband of Betty for 33 years and loving father of Anne and Laura. Brother of Michi (Yuki Koike) and loving son of Yoshie. Predeceased by his parents Chiyo (Tanaka) and Sanro Kobayashi and Muffy. Survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. Fumi was retired from the Halton Board of Education since 1996. He was an avid car enthusiast which led him to his “hobby job” in the auto parts department at Canadian Tire in Dundas. Fumi was Past Master (1978) of Seymour Lodge #272 A.F. & A.M., GRC as well as a 32nd Degree Mason with the Scottish Rite. He was a volunteer with the Hamilton Regional Police Services in the Ancaster Division. He was a member of many classic car clubs. In his free time he enjoyed his music, gardening, birds. computers, cross country skiing, trout fishing, building and basically had his hand in everything he would want to try. Above all he was dedicated to his family and touched all who met him. She was born in Copper Cliff and married Wilfred Hinds in Copper Cliff in 1937. A life resident of Copper Cliff. She was a charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary Royal Canadian Legion Br # 224 Copper Cliff, where she was a committed volunteer with Ladies Auxiliary projects. She enjoyed travelling, camping, cooking and collecting frogs. Irene was a very lovable person who had a wonderful sense of humour she generously shared with others. She was devoted to her loving family. Beloved wife of Wilfred Hinds predeceased 1979. Ivy Karn Peacefully on May 11, 2004 Ivy Karn our mother, sister, and aunt passed away surrounded by loved ones at the Victoria hospital. Ivy was predeceased by her husband Jim Karn in 1976 and also predeceased by her mother and father and by brothers John and Chuck. Ivy was loved and will be sadly missed by her sons, Peter (Kathryn), Jim Lambert (and family) and brothers Ralph (Jean) with Nowell, Shelly, John, Denise and Sherry; Len (Jo); Sister Lil (Jack) McKinnon with Caroline, Cherrie, Rochelle and her many cherished nieces and nephews. Over the years Ivy was very caring and giving of her energy and love to the many lives she touched as a foster-mother, support worker, Eaton’s employee and neighbour. She leaves the fond memories of many trips to visit family and spending time at Falcon Lake in her garden. Her passion for meeting people was endless as she met many diverse people from all across N. America and touched them with her love and kindness. Ivy’s cherished moments and special place in her heart was with her nieces and nephews. And finally Ivy will be remembered for her love of shopping in malls and garage sales. The family would like to extend a special thank-you to the staff at Victoria General hospital and her close neighbours of today and the past. A family graveside memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm. on Friday May 14, 2004 at Brookside Cemetery, 3001 Notre Dame Ave. On Sunday May 16, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. a celebration of her life will be held at Ivy’s home. Born in Chatham, 84 years ago, daughter of the late Robert Cable and Mary Ann (Ball). Her husband Ray Kinny predeceased in 1978. Devoted and loving mother of five daughters Judy Kuehn of Calgary, Pat and husband Don Kendall of Chatham, Barbara Kinny of Chatham, Janice and husband Steve Beardsall of Australia, Karen and husband Jim Lake of Calgary, two sons Bob and wife Jill of Lacombe, Alberta and Cal of Chatham. Proud grandmother of thirteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Predeceased by one brother Albert Cable, two sisters Myrtle Wilcox and Ethel Garrod. Verna will be remembered for her strong independance, wonderful sense of humour, her positive outlook and zest for life. Gregory William Newton October 22, 1954 - May 08, 2004 Accidentally, on May 8th, near Kindersley, Saskatchewan, Greg was taken from us, without any warning. Greg was born in Beausejour, Manitoba on October 22, 1954. Greg is survived by his parents Art and Betty of Whytewold, Manitoba; older brother George (Smokey) and wife Barb, sons Jonathan and Joshua from Okotoks, Alberta, daughters Cheryl from Surrey, B.C. and Brenda (Dale) and son Connor from Winnipeg, Manitoba; brother Stan (Skip) and wife Jill and sons Mitchell and Bradley, from Calmar, Alberta, and brother Guy from Whytewold, Manitoba, along with numerous relatives. Greg was living in Burstall, Saskatchewan and working as an Environmental Consultant for AMT Environmental Services and has many friends and co-workers who will sadly miss him. Earlier in his life, Greg enjoyed the Cadets and was in the Military. Greg had a love for cooking and a zest for life and making people laugh. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 14th at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street, Winnipeg. Sophie Jaworski ( Antoski) Tragically on May 8, 2004, Sophie Jaworski passed away at the age of 83. Sophie is predeceased by her three brothers, seven sisters and two nephews. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Susan (Gary) Wish; granddaughter, Jade (Scotty); grandson, Jardy (Ashley) with Taylor-Anne and Arah-Leah; two brothers, Joe and Andy ; two sisters, Verna Stawnychko and Helen Vance of B.C.. Sophie will also be missed by many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. Sophie was born in Stuartburn, MB and grew up in the rural community of Gardenton. She worked in Winnipeg for two very special families, that she felt blessed to be a part of. In her retirement Sophie enjoyed bowling, baking and shopping. Her greatest joy was her family. Sophie was regarded as one of the most kind, gentle, loving people of this planet, by her family. Baba always put others before herself, her greatest characteristic was always finding the good in everyone. Her greatest and most precious memories were those when she was surrounded by her family and friends, cooking and baking. Baba always believed that you took care of others first and she always ate last while company was present. Till we all can be together again, Baba will be sorely missed and forever loved. Mr. Kenneth Jenkins July 28, 1933 - May 10, 2004 Peacefully, on Monday May 10, 2004 at Southlake Regional Health Centre, Newmarket. Loving father of Denise, Wendy and Bob. Marion Johnston JOHNSTON - Marion passed away peacefully on Monday, May 10, 2004 at the age of 91 years. Predeceased by her husband, Charlie in 1970. Marion was the loving mother of Linda and son-in-law, Roberto Saucedo of Jacksonville, FL; Ron and daughter-in-law Marlene of Regina, SK; and proud grandmother of Scott and Todd Saucedo of Florida. Also survived by a brother Ron (Pat) Scott of Vero Beach, FL. Born in Winnipeg, MB, Marion received her nursing degree in 1939 from the Winnipeg Children’s Hospital. While raising two children, Marion became district manager of a cosmetic company before joining the Regina Public Health department, where she remained until her retirement. Marion played an active role in numerous service organizations as well as traveling with friends and keeping busy with crafts and ceramics. A special thanks is extended to the staff of Helping Hands Personal Care Home for their support and wonderful care of Marion. No funeral or memorial service will be held at the request of Marion. Rene was a member of the Royal Canadian Navy and long standing member of the Navy Vets Association of Windsor. He was also a 30 year employee of Romeo Machine Shop. Foster E. Alward - March 10, 1926 - May 05, 2004 - The beloved husband of Georgina Alward (Templeton) passed away at the Moncton Hospital on Wednesday, May 5th 2004 following a lengthy illness. Born in Canaan Forks, NB, he was the son of the late Douglas Alward and Unavieve Straight (Paterson). He was a retired Machinist with the CNR having worked in the oil lab in the Moncton Diesel Shop. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the CN Pensioners Association. Foster is survived by his wife of 57 years, Georgina, son Laurie of Lakeville, daughters, Deborah Scott (Bill) of Gladeside, Trudy Girvan (Royce) of Salisbury, and Dixie Daigle (George) of Riverview. Grandchildren Tara and Randi Scott, Josh and Tyler Daigle, and Melissa Girvan. Brother Delbert Alward (Marion) of McGregor ON, and sister Doreen O‘Blenis of Napanee ON, as well as several nieces and nephews. Helen Kornacki (née Goyeau) March 10, 1937 - May 04, 2004 KORNACKI, Helen (nee Goyeau) Helen died peacefully, surrounded by her loving, devoted husband Edwin of 46 years and her family after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Helen is survived by her husband Edwin, her son Paul and his wife Jeanette Kornacki (Windsor), Mary Beth Kornacki (Windsor), and Anne and her husband Robert Coelho (Kitchener) and her beautiful precious grandchildren Andrew Kornacki, Gillian Kornacki, and Madelaine, Emma, and Robert Coelho Jr. and her special protector and friend Niko. She is also survived by her sister Antoinette Fancsy and her late husband Stephen, brother Dr. Frank Goyeau and his wife Pauline, and Raymond Goyeau and Margaret and Don McKenzie and Jack and Sheila Swinton, brother-in-law Edward and Carmen Kornacki, and sister-in-law Sophie (2004) and her husband David. Helen was a special aunt to many wonderful nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Raymond Goyeau (1965) and Ann (Goyeau) Swinton (2000) and her husband John Swinton (1978), and her in-laws Paul and Melania Kornacki (1963). Mom was a caring nurse for over 40 years starting with her training at Hotel Dieu Hospital (class of '57) where she met many of her good friends. She was a graduate of St. Mary's Academy. Mom was an avid golfer, a member of Roseland and Dominion Women's Golf League perfecting her swing and searching for a-hole-one. She was a member of Most Precious Blood Church and the former St. Joseph the Worker Parish where she was a Eucharistic Minister for several years. Grandma Blue Eyes was the Best Mother, Grandmother and Mother-in-law in the world. Visitation will be held Thursday 2-5 & 7-9 p.m. Parish Prayers Thursday 7:15 p.m. Funeral service will be held Friday May 7, 2004 at 11:45 a.m. from Janisse Bros - Marcotte Funeral Home, 1139 Ouellette Ave., (253-5225) to Most Precious Blood Catholic Church for Mass of Christian Burial at 12:30 p.m. Interment Heavenly Rest Cemetery. Carla Schenardi October 02, 1933 - May 03, 2004 SCHENARDI, Carla - 70, Halifax, passed away quietly in the New Halifax Infirmary, QEII, on May 3, 2004. She will be greatly missed by her loving husband and companion of 24 years, Al Roache; her aunt, Ornellia, Italy. Her family consisted of her best friend, Bruna Meggetto and her daughters, Paola (Roger) Booker, Daniela (John) Rubinger, Lisa (Kevin) Julien and Lore (Scott) Bowers; best friend, Barbara Keefe and her daughters, Cheryl (Kirk) Arsenault and Kelly Keefe. Carla "Zizi" was born in Milano, Italy, on October 2, 1933. She immigrated to Canada in 1959 to Stellarton and moved to Halifax in 1961. She opened her own hair salon "The Elegant Touch" in 1975 with Barbara and enjoyed a successful career until her retirement in 1992. Zizi enjoyed a full life traveling throughout North America and Europe and was known for exquisite tastes in fine jewelry, food and clothes. She adored her pets, Joli and Lucy. Her other passion, gardening, followed her all year round to their winter home in Florida and Al's home on Stevens Road, Lockeport. She will be best remembered for her love of life, family and friends, strong inner confidence and independence. Memorial service will be held in St. Michael's Church on Herring Cove Road on Friday, May 7, at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Scleroderma Society of Canada at 1-866-279-0632. Keith G. Wilson CD., Chief Petty Officer Ret'd June 07, 1921 - May 04, 2004 WILSON, Keith G., CD. (Chief Petty Officer Ret'd.) - 82, Bedford, died May 4, 2004. He was a son of the late Robert G. Wilson and Ruby Wilson (Parry Sound, Ont.). Keith was a loyal and devoted husband to his loving wife, the former Susan Levy, a resident of St. Vincent's Guest Home. Survived by sister, Mary O'Connell, Elmira, Ont.; sister-in-law, Bernice (Charlie) Black, Middleton; Edna Landry, Halifax; brother-in-law, Richard (Goldie) Levy, East Chester; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, William (Sudbury, Ont.). He joined the Canadian Army in 1939 and served overseas with the Fort Gary Horse Regiment (10th C.A.R.) in France, Western Europe and Germany. At the end of the war he transferred to the Royal Canadian Navy serving on various ships and stations. He served in the Korean War on board the HMCS Sioux. He retired from the R.C.N. in 1966, as a chief petty officer. During his military career he received the Canadian Defence Medal, 1939-45 Star, Defence of Britain Medal, France and Germany Stars, the War Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, Korean Medal and United Nations Service Medal. Upon retirement from the R.C.N. he was employed by the Department of Transport in Halifax as a wireless telegraphist and electronic technician. In 1968, he joined the Canadian Forces Technical Services Agency as an inspector of electrical and electronic material and services. He then served as the quality assurance officer in the Maritime region for this agency. Prior to his final retirement in 1985, he was employed as staff officer audits in the Quality Assurance Implementation Directorate of D.N.D. in Ottawa, Ont. On his retirement in 1985, he was presented with a scroll commemorating 45 years of meritorious service. He attended Rock Church in Sackville and Gospel Crusade Family Church in Bradenton, Fla. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Thursday in Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Dr., Lower Sackville. Funeral service at 1 p.m. Friday in Rock Church, Lower Sackville. Burial to follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Eileen Embree ( Carter) Eileen Carlotta Embree of 15 Agnew Street, Amherst, passed away Sunday, May 2, 2004, at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Amherst. Born in Central Blissville, NB., she was the daughter of the late Roy William and Ina (Clarke) Carter and wife to the late Claude Embree. She was a member of Trinity-St. Stephen United Church of Amherst; Past Matron of Brittannia Chapter (Order of the Eastern Star); Past Noble Grand of Miriam Rebekah Lodge and Past President of The Amherst Ladies Curling Club. Eileen is survived by her three sons; Glenn of Lower Sackville, NS., Guye, and Gary (Gail) all of Amherst. Also, her five grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and several sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, she was also predeceased by daughter-in-law Barbara and brothers Donald, Douglas and Keith. By her request there will be no visitation. A graveside service for family and close friends will take place on Thursday, May 6, 2004 at 2 pm in the Amherst Cemetery with Rev. Allan Griffin officiating and Pipe Major Harold MacDonnell lending a musical tribute. A reception will follow immediately in Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church Str., Amherst (667-9906) in order to celebrate Eileen’s life. James Francis Morgan January 12, 1959 - February 17, 2004 Jim passed away suddenly at his home in Fort Rouge. He will be sadly missed by his mother and father (Doreen and Ken Morgan); brother Grant (Karen); aunts Cora, Lu, Mae and Shirley; niece Sherri (Cory); and nephew Michael (Jenn). Jim was born in Winnipeg. He attended school in Windsor Park and later at the University of Manitoba. During his school years Jim was very active in sports including hockey, judo, lacrosse, basketball and football. He followed all professional sports, loved listening to music and enjoyed getting together with family for special occasions. Dorothy Mahoney ( Day) July 20, 1928 - May 3, 2004 Dorothy Mahoney, wife of Reginald of Riverview, passed away at The Moncton Hospital on Monday May 3rd, 2004 at the age of 75. Born in Campbelton on July 20th ,1928 she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Louise Day. Dorothy was a child care provider in Riverview for many years and very active in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish. In addition to her devoted husband of 56 years, Reginald, she is survived by her children; Dan (Myrtle) of Gander, NL, Charlene Sonier (Bill) of Cornwall, ON, Kevin (Nancy) of Hillsborough, Darrell of Ottawa, ON, Kenneth, Mark (Kim), Karen Anne Mollins (Brian) all of Moncton, several grandchildren, and great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters Olive and Doris. Shirley worked for many years at the Post Office located in Fader's Pharmacy on Coburg Road, Halifax, where she was well-known to many patrons. She was an avid bowler and for many years bowled at Fairlanes Bowling Alley, Halifax Shopping Centre, in "The Tuesday's Seniors League." She was a resident of Sir John Thompson Manor. Kay "Katy" Barta (née Kuntz) It is with great sorrow and sadness we announce the passing of our mother and grandmother Kay Barta, aged 79 years, on Friday, April 30, 2004 at Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg with her family by her side. Kay was predeceased by her parents and her brother John. Kay is survived by one son, Roy (Peggy) Barta; three daughters MaryAnne (Don) Prokopsky, Valerie Kulczycki and Sharon (Lawrence) Kulczycki; four grandsons Cory, Neil, Kelly, Bradley; and one great-grandson, Kaleb. She is also survived by two sisters and four brothers. Mom had a beautiful smile for everyone and would never turn away someone in need. She was an avid reader and loved visiting with her grandchildren. Anna Giczi (née Bognar) September 30, 1935 - April 28, 2004 Peacefully, on April 28, 2004 at the Maples Personal Care Home, Anna Giczi passed away at the age of 68 years. Anna will be lovingly remembered by her daughters: Ibi (Sal) Lao, Kathy (Warren) Penner, and Sylvie (Luis) Arruda; grandchildren David, Amanda and Natasha Lao, Trevor and Matthew Penner; one sister Marika Varga, and two brothers Pechu and Imre Bognar, and their families in Hungary and Switzerland. She is also survived by two brothers-in-law Aladar Giczi and Joseph Giczi, and many nieces, nephews and friends. Anna was predeceased by husband Arpad in 1995; one sister Tesza; and two brothers Janos and Antal. Anna was born Sept 30, 1935 in Hungary. She moved to Switzerland in 1956 where she met her husband Arpad and had two daughters Ibi and Kathy. They immigrated to Canada in 1973 where they had their third child Sylvie. Anna had a great sense of humour and zest for life. Although she was very ill for a long time, she was determined to live an independent life. Anna (Mom) loved to knit sweaters especially for her children and grandchildren. Anyu always made sure she looked good and never left the house without her lipstick on and her hair done up. Anyu was very well loved by her family and will be missed dearly. Special thank you to the staff of Maples Personal Care Home and the 3rd floor staff of Seven Oaks Hospital for their care and kindess to Mom. HEAD, Rosemary Josephine (Jo) (nee Tubbs) Peacefully at her home in White Rock, BC, on Canada Day. Predeceased by her husband, Michael (1994); parents, Cyril and Margaret Tubbs; and sister, Dr. Anne Johnston, all of England. Jo will be missed by her children, Jonathan, Timothy (Mary O'Rielly), Elizabeth (Dan Ranich) and Rob, her beloved grandchildren, Jake and Amber Ranich of Sudbury; sister Judy Salmon (Graeme) of Oxford; and her beloved nieces, nephews and cousins in the UK, Australia and Singapore. As well Jo touched the lives of countless friends throughout her proud and lifelong association with the Anglican Church, her volunteer work with the Canadian Red Cross spanning 36 years (including over 100 blood donations), her hiking clubs, horticultural groups, and fellow postcard dealers and collectors. After a courageous 6-month battle with cancer, and in the company of her family, Jo moved on to the next phase of her journey. For such an avid, fit and happy outdoorswoman and botanist, her 76 years with us fell for too short. Jo emigrated from England to Canada in 1953. Michael's career with INCO Metals Ltd. took the family to homes in Lively, Port Colborne, Copper Cliff, Sudbury, and Toronto, Ontario, prior to a brief retirement in Barrie. In 1986 the call of the Canadian west coast drew mom and dad to White Rock, where the 10 month growing season provided ample opportunity to ply their skills. Wherever mom lived, the house was always surrounded by an amazing English garden. Mom's spare time, when not relaxing over a bundle of fresh postcard, was often spent knitting baby sets that were distributed to many friends and charities. Jo had a knack for making people from all backgrounds feel welcome, and her family would like to extend our sincere thanks for the support that we have received from friends, colleagues and neighbours. Thanks also to management and staff of the Peace Arch Hospital Palliative Homecare Unit. Cremation. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 7th at 2:00 p.m. at the Church of the Holy Trinity, 15115 Roper Avenue, White Rock, BC. In lieu of flowers, and only if desired, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, The Peace Arch Hospital Foundation, or to the charity of your choice.
