Lillian Petrick Funeral arrangements by Chapel Lawn Funeral Home It is with profound sadness that the family of Lillian Petrick announces her sudden yet peaceful passing on Thursday, April 1, 2004. Lillian was the beloved wife of Paul; mother of Brenda (Jim); grandmother to Matthew (Kristine) and David; sister of Stanley (Anne); and aunt and great-aunt of a number of nephews and nieces. She was born and raised in Winnipeg and spent all of her life living on Manitoba Avenue. Lillian was a life-long member of St. John Cantius Parish and a senior member of the Canadian Polish Athletics Club. She particularly enjoyed the many excursions provided by the club to exotic places like Fargo and Grand Forks. Grandma was a simple, hardworking woman with a great depth of spirit. She will be fondly remembered for her thoughtfulness, her compassion and her zest for life. Family gatherings were a highlight for her and the family treasures the memories of Grandma’s many hijinks. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 6, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. at St. John Cantius Church, 846 Burrows Avenue with Reverend Henryk Uczniak officiating. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery, 3990 Portage Ave. The family would like to thank Dr. Panaskevich for her care and support as well as the home care workers who provided so much assistance the last few years of Grandma’s life. William "Hugh" Perry Funeral arrangements by Chapel Lawn Funeral Home Peacefully on March 31, 2004 at Riverview Health Centre, Hugh Perry passed away at the age of 80. Hugh was born in Saskatchewan on the farm near Moosomin in 1924. In 1938, the family moved to Neepawa where he farmed with his dad, until he was struck down with polio and left paralyzed from the neck down. He spent 28 years in an iron lung at King George Hospital. Thanks to modern technology, a portable ventilator did his breathing for him for the next 23 years. Before the polio, Hugh loved farming and was a very skilled carpenter and wood-worker and left us many treasured pieces. He loved sports and golfing out at Clear Lake. After the polio, his time was spent watching TV and reading. Hugh was predeceased by his father William in 1971; his sister Meta in 1972; his mother Alice in 1991; and his brother David in 1998. He is survived by his brother Gordon and wife Rose; brother-in-law Douglas Gudmandson and wife Hazel; nieces Sheila Newsome and Debra Delorme; nephews Bill Gudmandson and wife Nancy, Hugh Gudmandson and Hugh Perry; numerous great-nieces and nephews; and special friend and nurse Doris Loewen. Cremation has taken place and the memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 10 at 2:00 at Riverview Chapel, 1 Morley Avenue, Winnipeg with a reception to follow. A private family interment will take place at a later date. The family sincerely thanks the doctors, nurses and numerous care-givers for their kindness and excellent care at the King George and at Riverview for the past 51 years. A very special thanks to Doris Loewen for her constant care and special friendship to Hugh and family. God bless you for your devotion - we love you. Yvonne Marie Odishaw January 11, 1919 - March 31, 2004 ODISHAW, YVONNE MARIE January 11, 1919 March 31, 2004_ Predeceased by her parents Joseph and Marie Saive and Husband, Daniel, Yvonne is survived and mourned by her family: Marie (Wes) Dutnall Calling Lake AB, Ron (Pat) Odishaw Moncton NB, Alvin (Anne) Odishaw Saskatoon SK, Linda Odishaw Lloydminster SK, Bill (Susan) Odishaw Bulyea SK, 12 Grandchildren and 13 Great Grandchildren. Yvonne was born in Treogan, Brittany, France. The family immigrated to Canada, settling at the the St. Hubert Mission the same year. After her Mom passed away, they moved to Denholm in 1931, where her Dad farmed. Yvonne met Dan and married on November 4, 1938. Soon followed: Marie, Ron, Alvin, Linda and Bill. Mom and Dad farmed until 1956, then moved to North Battleford. Yvonne looked after her family and worked at the Geriatric Hospital. When they moved to Regina in 1961, she worked at the Grey Nuns Hospital (Pasqua Hospital) in the CSR Dept until her retirement. Mom was a special lady with a willing hand and genuine smile. Her heart was pure, believing in the best of people. Her 85 years were filled with joy, sorrow and happiness. Being with family, close to nature and her cats were a comfort to her as she viewed each day with renewed strength and resolve. Julia O'Keefe Funeral arrangements by Sands Funeral Chapel (Victoria) O’KEEFE, Julia: (in religion, a.k.a. Sister Alice Maureen) Sister of St. Ann, age 85, died peacefully April 1st, 2004, at Saint Ann’s Residence, Victoria, BC. Julia was born in Grand Falls, Newfoundland, March 5, 1919, the youngest of 7 children of William and Alice (Dalton) O’Keefe. In 1933, the family moved to St. John’s, where Julia received her high school education. Joining the RCAF in 1942, Julia served overseas, experiencing the “blitz’ in London, England. She moved to Victoria in 1946, found employment at St. Joseph’s Hospital, and later, decided to enter the Novitiate of the Sisters of St. Ann. She made profession on September 8, 1948. Diagnosed with cancer in 1951, Julia recovered from surgery in time to pronounce her final vows that September. Despite her delicate health, for the next 33 years, Julia served as teacher, child care worker, and other forms of community service in SSA missions throughout BC. One of her joys was teaching summer catechism classes to children unable to attend a Catholic School. Julia’s “joie-de-vivre,” laughter, and humor touched all who knew her. She will be missed and leaves to mourn the members of her Religious Community, nieces, nephews and many friends, especially her dear friend, Gladys Brown, as well as those who cared for her at Mount St. Mary Hospital and St. Ann’s Residence. A Prayer Service will be held at St. Ann’s Residence, 2474 Arbutus Road, Victoria, BC, April 4th, at 7:00 pm. Reverend Anthony Sebastian, OFM, will celebrate Mass of the Resurrection at 10:00 am, April 5th, in the Chapel of St. Ann’s Residence, followed by Interment at Hatley Memorial Gardens, Colwood. Tori was predeceased by her foster mother, Dolly Vibe and is survived by her husband, Bradley Paul Johnson. She will be greatly missed by her pet bulldogs, Petie and Sydney. John Mooney January 26, 1940 - March 30, 2004 Sadly on March 30, 2004 with his wife and family at his side, John Mooney has passed away. Leaving to cherish his memory is his loving wife Annette; three step-children, Jeffrey, Shelley (Tony) and Jennie; his father John Sr. and mother Anne; his brother Ron (Marlene) and their three children Donna, Terry and Jeffrey all from Ottawa, ON; two sisters, Sandra (Bob) Mooney-Curran, Judy (Gord) Mooney-Morrison all from Toronto; and numerous other relatives from Ontario. John was born and raised in Ottawa, ON. He moved to Winnipeg in 1972. He met and married his wife Annette in 1998. The family extends heartfelt thank you to the staff of Riverview Health Centre for the excellent care given to John. Cremation has taken place and a private family service was held in Winnipeg. Mr. Frank "Pete" Lineham McKay November 10, 1926 - March 24, 2004 Funeral arrangements by Sands Funeral Chapel (Duncan) McKay, Frank Lineham (Pete), passed away quietly, at home, March 24, 2004. His wife of 39 years Pat (nee Anderson) predeceased him in July 1989. Pete was born in Calgary, Alberta (November 1926) and lived his childhood in Calgary and Okotoks, attending Strathcona Tweedsmuir School. Pete worked as a Cowboy (an occupation with which he always identified himself) on the rangelands of Alberta and Montana. The sea also drew him and so he went, first in Merchant Ships and then joining the Royal Canadian Navy in January 1945. He served a full career with the Navy, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer 1st Class RP4, in 1966, first to Langford, then in 1974 he and Pat built their house in Cobble Hill, where they lived the balance of their lives. There will be no service. Pete’s friends and associates are requested to remember him as they knew him. It is suggested that any Memorials by made by donation to the Charity of the Donor’s choice. Pete contributed to many.

Barbara Lorraine Jefferson Barbara Lorraine Jefferson, age 49, died at home in Vancouver on Monday, March 29, 2004 with her family by her side. Barbara is lovingly remembered by her parents Dick & Sophie Jefferson of Winnipeg, her long time friend, companion and partner, Eva-Marie (Brandy) Buchner, her brother Eric, Aunts and Uncles: Bryan & Chris; Judy & Terry Miller; Tom & Lexx and her cousins Sandra, Christopher, Jennifer and Kimberly Miller and Madeline and Mackenzie. Madeline Auringer AURINGER: Madeline (nee Bandoian) born in Glasgow, Scotland, passed away on April 13, 2004 in Victoria, BC surrounded by her family. She was predeceased by her mother, Anne; sisters, Bonnie and Bonnie Lynn. Lovingly remembered by her husband and best friend of 40 years, Ken; children: Duane (Colleen), John, David (Shannon) and Anita (Steve); precious grandchildren Colton, Lea, Bailey, Logan, Savannah, Emily and Alyssa; her father, John, and many relatives on both sides. Mom lived her life for her family and close friends. She was always involved in our lives, attending our sports, taking us camping, and she especially enjoyed special time with her grandchildren. She had a passion for her gardens and has now gone to tend a bigger one on the other side. Flowers gratefully declined. Marion Josie Bales (née Qually) May 30, 1912 - April 12, 2004 Peacefully, at West Park Manor Personal Care Home in Winnipeg at the age of 91 years. Marion is survived by sons, Vern (Lori) and Brian of Winnipeg; daughters, Bonnie Gasper (Fred) of Ashern, Merle Bloom (Richard) of Winnipeg; 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; sisters Eunice Storey and Mabel Piper of Abbotsford, B.C., Valetta Petterson (George) of Winnipeg; brother Stanley Qually (Norma) of Vancouver, B.C.; sister-in-law Mary Qually; and many nieces and nephews. Marion was predeceased by husband Vivan, mother Martha, father Billiam and Tillie, brother Douglas and brothers-in-law Gordon Storey and Arnold Piper. Marion, the eldest of six children, was born at her parents home in Dacotah, MB on May 30, 1912 where she resided most of her life. She was a mother, farm wife and she did parttime work away from home. Her main interests were cooking, baking, sewing, crocheting, knitting and she was an accomplished piano player. The family would like to thank home care providers Hilda Stoesz, Edith Bergen, Tammy Robertson, Shelia Froude and Isla Sauter. Thank you to her special friends Eva Pichurski and Mary Filsche who visited her regularly and most especially to the compassionate and caring staff of West Park Manor. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 17, 2004 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. with Pastor Leon Gilbertson officiating. Helen Tanner (née Krowiak) We are saddened to announce the passing of our mother, Helen Tanner, in the early hours of Easter Sunday, April 11, 2004. Predeceased by her husband Leonard (Buddy) and father Joe, her memory lives on in the lives of her family: her mother Julie, her brother Kas (Chris), her sister Gloria (Ernest), her children Marji (John), George (Judy), Kathy (Ian), David (Jody), and Lori (Lance). Helen also is fondly remembered by her twelve grandchildren Jill, Laura, Avary, Carly, Elena, Jennifer, Darren, Devin, Paige, Rae-Lynn, Nicholas and Mitchell. Helen had a great love of art and music. She mastered the violin as a child and studied under L. L. Fitzgerald at the Winnipeg School of Art. She worked at Bison Studio first as a colourist and then as one of the first women photographers in Winnipeg to recod wedding ceremonies. In 1948 she married Bud and together they had five children in each of the next three decades. Before retiring she was employed at Judith’s Bridals where she made many friends. In recent years she was a member of the Winnipeg Sketch Club and sang wit the choir at St. Timothy’s. The service and a gathering of friends will be held on Thursday, April 16, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Timothy Parish, 135 John Forsythe Road. The family would like to acknowledge the caring attention of the Oncology professionals at St. Boniface Hospital and the home caregivers who helped our mom stay at home as long as she did. Our sincere thanks to all staff at Floor 3E Riverview Health Centre, and especially to Arlene for her understanding support. Dorothy Victoria White (née Jarvis) At her residence in St. Catharines on Friday, March 22, 2002, predeceased by her husbands Edward George White and William Arthur Smyth; brother Capt. Lois Pearl Stewart October 01, 1919 - April 14, 2004 With sadness we announce the passing of Lois Stewart on April 14, 2004 at Deer Lodge Centre. She was predeceased by her parents; her sister Helen; brother-in-law Fred Rew; and nephew Larry. Lois is survived by her niece Linda (Don) Wikander, their sons Clint and Doug (Megan), daughter Karyn (James) Hope and their sons Jordan and Zachary; as well as other friends and family. Lois was born on October 1, 1919 to parents Minnie and Serl Stewart in Marchwell, Saskatchewan. She spent her early childhood in Mt. Hope, Washington until the family settled on a farm in Gladstone, Manitoba. As a young woman, she moved to Winnipeg and began her long career with Hudson Bay, first with the Northern Stores, and eventually as one of the early computer programmers. A long-time member of Knox United Church, she was an independent and caring woman with many friends but always with time for family. “Auntie Lois” will be missed. Mr. Dennis McSorley Dennis Matthew McSorley age 79 of Amherst, N.S. passed away Thursday, April 15, 2004 at home. Born in Barker’s Point, N.B. he was a son of the late John and Mary (McCluskey) McSorley. After graduating from Fredericton High School Dennis worked for the Royal Bank and then joined the Army in the Pay Corp. He started Cumberland Paving and Contracting in Amherst in 1962 and has resided in Amherst ever since. He was a former member of the Amherst Rotary Club as well as the Amherst Golf Club, Maritime Seniors Golfing Association, the Kinsmen Club and the K-40. Dennis was also a member of St. Charles Roman Catholic Church, Amherst. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, the former Berla Staples, daughters Eleanor (Paul) McSorley - Hayter of Halifax, Linda McSorley of Saint John, N.B. and Susan Lirette (Gordon) of Amherst, son Timothy (Wanda) of Amherst, sister M. Veronica McSorley of Frederiction, N.B., brother T. Holland McSorley (Trixie) of Mirimichi, N.B., 11 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. His remains are resting at Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst with visiting on Saturday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Monday, April 19, 2004 at 2 p.m. from St. Charles Roman Catholic Church, Amherst with Father Vernon Driscoll officiating. James Edward Chaulk May 12, 1939 - April 13, 2004 It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our beloved husband and father Ed on Tuesday, April 13, 2004 at the St. Boniface Hospital, following a short illness. He was predeceased by his father Matthew in 1957; mother Mary in 1987; sister Beverley in 2000; and beloved mother-in-law Isabelle Bethell in 2001. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 44 years, Marilyn; his sons Rob and Mark; nephew Brett Yates of Henderson, Nevada. Ed was born in Winnipeg, MB on May 12, 1939. He graduated from Daniel Mac Collegiate in 1958. He was employed by the Manitoba Telephone System for 35 years, retiring in 1995. Ed’s life revolved around his family and close friends. He particularly enjoyed all his years at the family cottage at Hillside Beach. He was an avid sports fan. He was able to spend many summers golfing and marshalled at Tuxedo Golf Course for the past three years. He was a particularly loyal fan to his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs. Beloved husband of the late Beatrice (Beemer) Bell and the late Grace (Wilson) LaRue. Dear father of Nancy Yonkheym and husband Terry of Niagara-on-the-lake, Doug and wife Susan of Cottam, step-children Gail Miller and husband Bill of Chatham, Richard LaRue and wife Linda of Erieau, Gary LaRue and wife Rosemary of Cambridge. Maureen Bannister Peacefully on April 10, 2004 at the Health Sciences Centre Maureen passed away at the age of 67 years. Maureen was predeceased by her husband Raymond. She is survived by her children Nigel, Clive, Elaine, Anita and their spouses, Stella, Wendy, Cliff and Bob; her grandchildren Chandler, Jade, Kayla and Trina. Maureen will also be remembered by her special friend Ingrid and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Maureen was born in England, then emigrated to Winnipeg where she was head cook at Balmoral Hall School. Gardening, knitting and spending time with family were past times that Maureen enjoyed the most, as well as bingo. Maureen was a very kind and generous person who always thought of others first. Many thanks to GD4 and GD5 staff of the Health Sciences Centre for their care and support. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 20, 2004 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Reception and interment will follow. Mr. Martinus Johannes, Henricus Vankemenade May 08, 1924 - April 13, 2004 VANKEMENADE – Martinus Johannes Henricus born May 8, 1924 passed away peacefully on April 13, 2004 at the Victoria General Hospital. Predeceased by his loving wife Johanna on August 8, 2003. Survived by son, Henry; daughter; Jeannie and three grandchildren, Brian, Lisa and Christine; four sisters in Toronto; one brother in Holland. At age 10 he started to study the trumpet. Martin worked at the Philips Factory in Holland as a printer at 14 years old and played in the Philips Factory Band. Martin and Johanna were married February 17, 1949 and immigrated to Canada in 1954. Martin joined the Canadian Forces and was posted to the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where he also played as a soloist with the Artillery Band and at the same time with the Winnipeg Symphony. In 1966 he was posted to the Canadian Forces School of music at Naden as a trumpet instructor and also joined the Victoria Symphony. He retired from the school in 1974 and went to work for the H.M.C.S. Dockyards until 1988. Martin played for many theatre shows at McPherson Playhouse and Butchart Gardens. Later he had a band called the Martin Van Quartet where he played a lot of dance music for different organizations in Victoria. Our Dad was truly a very special man and will never be forgotten by his two children. “LOVE YOU DAD” Special thanks to Dr. Isaac and the caring staff at the Victoria General Hospital. Nettie Louise Reinsch (née Schrof) May 28, 1916 - April 15, 2004 Nettie Reinsch passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 15, 2004 at Concordia Place. Nettie was predeceased by her husband Robert in 1980; by her brothers Fred and Walter; and sister Clara Kaminsky. She leaves to mourn, her sons, Ronald (Carolyn), Allan (Marilyn); daughter Carole (David) Roberts; and grandchildren, Candace (Dan Schettler), Heather, Rob (Karen Sullivan), Todd, Michelle, and Pam (David) Barton. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Gerda and Agnes Schrof and Hilda Reinsch. Nettie was born in Wing, Illinois on May 28, 1916 and came north to Canada in 1922, settling in Starbuck. Nettie and Bob married in 1935 and spent most of their life farming in Brunkild. Many enjoyable winters were spent in Arizona with friends and relatives. Nettie loved her family dearly. She loved to dance, play shuffleboard and bingo, and family get-togethers. Rest in peace Mom. The family would like to thank the caring staff at Lions Place, Dr. Barry Campbell, Deer Lodge Centre and Concordia Place. Cremation has taken place and a funeral service will be held on Monday, April 19, 2004 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue with Reverend Kolleen Karlowsky-Clark officiating.
