THROOP, JEAN LOUISE - With great sadness we announce the passing of Jean at the Princess Margaret Hospital on Thursday, August 5, 2004, after a courageous 8 year battle with cancer. Cherished wife of Dwight, loving mother of David and his wife Lynda and the late Bruce. Loving Grandmother to Kevin, Joshua, Shawn, Paul and Alex. Jean will be sadly missed by her many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Jean's warm and friendly presence as well as her joy, humour and wisdom will be fondly remembered by her many co-workers and friends all across Canada. She was Past-President of Municipal, Provincial, National IODE, and Toronto Women's Canadian Club. A private graveside service will be held at Hampton Rural Cemetery, N.B. Edward «Ted» Carr (1929-2004) l'Acadie Nouvelle - 6 août 2004 POKEMOUCHE - À sa résidence, le mercredi 4 août 2004, à l’âge de 75 ans, est décédé Edward «Ted» Carr, époux de Denise McGraw Reed, domicilié à Pokemouche. Il était fils de feu Joseph Charles Carr et de feu Rhoda Stevens. Outre son épouse, il laisse dans le deuil trois filles: Susan (Allain Snow) et Christine (Allain Griffiths), toutes deux de Barrow-in-Furness, Angleterre et Edwina (Simon Walsh) de Darby, Ang.; cinq fils: Dave (Sue) de Carlisle, Ang., Micheal (Margaret) de Dalton, Ang., Steve, Graham (Jane) et Ian, tous de Barrow-in-Furness, Ang., ainsi que 15 petits-enfants et six arrière-petits-enfants. Une soeur, Joan, ainsi que deux frères: Gordon et Robert, l’ont précédé dans la tombe. M. Carr était un vétéran de la guerre de Corée. McGILVRAY, Garfield Lorne Kenneth Russell. Peacefully, at the Ridgetown Retirement Residence on Wednesday, August 4, 2004 at the age of 95. A longtime resident of Georgetown, Ontario, he made a significant contribution to the community through his fifty years of employment at the Georgetown Herald, the Georgetown Fair Board, Georgetown Town Council, the Hockey Heritage Council, the Georgetown Liberals and St. John's United Church. In 1977, he was awarded the Queen's Silver Jubilee Medal for service. Predeceased by his wife Emmaline (1998). Survived by his children, Ross and his wife Donna of Peterborough, Gail of London, Douglas and his wife Marie of Brampton and Carol and her husband Richard Richmond of Chatham. Also survived by eleven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. His brother Walter McGilvray of Burlington survives. Friends will be received at the J.S. Gladys Crossman SACKVILLE, NB - The death of Gladys Crossman, age 88 of Sackville occurred at the Sackville Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, August 4, 2004. Born in Sackville, she was a daughter of the late Roy and Helen (Hicks) Stephens. A receptionist, she worked at Reid Enterprises for 20 years. She was a former member of the Ruby Rebekah Lodge and the Past Noble Grand Club. A member of the Sackville United Church she was a life member of the United Church Women. Gladys will be sadly missed by three sons, Alan (Becky), Sarnia, ON, Donald (Nancy) and Wendell (Nancy), both of Sackville; two daughters, Helen Cormier, Hampton, NB and Elizabeth (Libby) (Dwight) Rayworth, Sackville; seven grandchildren, Stuart (Chantal), Shelley, Chris, Mark, Sharon, Lynn (Mike) and Lindsay; a brother, Harley (Irene) Stephens, Sackville and a sister, Marion Fownes, Riverview. She was predeceased by her husband, Herman in 1991; a brother, Hugh and son-in-law Hampton Cormier. RICKARD, KATHLEEN ("KAY") MAUDE (JEWETT) February 18, 1918 - August 4, 2004 Proverbs 3:5 admonishes mankind to "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not onto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct thy paths". This verse of scripture became the foundation for a life of service dedicated to the Lord, her family and to her fellowman. Following a very courageous battle with cancer, her eighty-six year journey culminated in her home going on Wednesday, August 4th, 2004 surrounded by her immediate family and in the presence of her Lord and Savoir. Kay was predeceased by her loving husband and best friend of fifty-nine years, Walter, her beloved daughter, Mary Alice, her parents, the late Murray and Alice (Estabrooks) Jewett, her sister and life long friend Mildred, her brothers Walter and Sandy. Kay is survived by her son Robin, his wife and her loving daughter-in-law Gail, her beautiful granddaughter Tammy Jensen and kind husband David, and her very special grandson Timmy. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and many wonderful friends. A life long resident of Barker's Point and surrounding area, Kay lived life with love, dignity, conviction and acceptance for the things she could not change. She was a woman who demonstrated profound wisdom and whose faith remained firmly anchored down through the years. This was particularly evident throughout her recent illness and especially in the waning hours of her earthly journey. Her love of life and the compassion she demonstrated for others formed a fundamental part of her daily living and will continue to serve as an inspiration to everyone who had the good fortune to know her. Kay, together with her husband Walter, became early members of the Barker's Point Reformed Baptist Church. Kay will be particularly remembered for her many years of active service in the Women's Missionary Auxiliary where she, along with several other dedicated ladies spent countless hours in mending clothes and providing for the needy both at home and around the world. Kay also served for many years as a volunteer for Red Cross and Meals On Wheels throughout the greater Fredericton area. Visitation will be held at the Corbett Avenue Wesleyan Church, 53 Corbett Avenue, Fredericton on Saturday August 7, 2004 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM followed by a memorial service celebrating Kay's life at 2 PM Sunday, August 8, 2004 with Rev. P. Thomas officiating, assisted by Rev. R. Benson and Rev. H. Ricker. Internment will follow in the Fredericton Rural Cemetery Extension. For those who wish to place a memorial in honor of Kay's life, the family encourages tributes be made to the Corbett Avenue Wesleyan Church, the Canadian Cancer Society or the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation. HANSEN, PAUL ARTHUR, Age 84, passed away peacefully on August 4t, 2004, at the Miramichi Veteran's Home. He was the eldest son of the late Asbjorn and Margaret Hansen, of Newcastle. He was also predeceased by a sister, Lillian MacPherson. He was an R.C.A.F. veteran of WWII. He was also an announcer with C.K.M.R., in Newcastle and later a journalist with the Saint John Telegraph Journal and the Moncton Times Transcript. He is survived by three brothers and three sisters. Harold and Ralph (Mary) of Miramichi and Asbjorn (Marilyn) Hansen of Ottawa, Pauline Parks, Margaret Hatheway and Betty Lou Hansen, of Fredericton and numerous nieces and nephews. A private service was held on August 6, 2004 at Davidson's Funeral Chapel, with internment in the Miramichi Cemetery. INGERSOLL, DELLA MARIE - Della Marie Ingersoll, 92, of Seal Cove, Grand Manan occurred at the Grand Manan Nursing Home on Wednesday, August 4, 2004. Born on Wood Island, she was the loving wife of Julius W. Ingersoll, who predeceased her in 1991. Della graduated from the Chipman Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and worked in the St. Stephen and Calais area as a private duty nurse and also on Grand Manan Island. She later worked with her husband in the grocery business in Seal Cove. A faithful member of the Seal Cove Baptist Church, she sang in the choir and has now gone home to be with her Lord. Survived by her son Dale (Marjorie) Ingersoll, Quispamsis, one granddaughter Heidi (Mike) Mew, Saint John, one great grand-daughter Sarah Mew, Saint John, also two step grandsons Ernest Joy, St. George, Norman (Melanie) Joy, Grand Manan, and four step great grandchildren, Sidney, Jerusha, Beverly and Samantha, one brother Guy (Audrey) Cossaboom, Martinon, N.B. as well as several nieces and nephews. McCANNY, Margaret "Rita" Bridget. Surrounded by family praying the rosary, Margaret "Rita" McCanny left this world in peace on Tuesday, July 13, 2004 in Oshawa, age seventy-nine. Predeceased by her sisters Josephine and Maura, she leaves behind her beloved husband Owen, her children Rosemary, Kathy (Kevin), Kevin (Tracy), Stephen (Angela), Maura (Tim), Pat (Ann); her thirteen grandchildren, along with her brother Pat and sister Roisin. Rita left Northern Ireland with Owen on the adventure of their lives, arriving in Montreal on their honeymoon fifty-one years ago. With a song in her heart and a smile on her lips, she worked tirelessly in support of her family, friends and parish community. Past president of her parish Catholic Woman's League and the Third Order Franciscans, she and Owen moved to Oshawa, Ontario in 1999, from Chateauguay, Quebec. A funeral service was held Friday, July 15, 2004 at St. Joseph the Worker parish in Oshawa. Grandmother of René Petroski of Milton, Sylvie Petroski (Bill Plouffe) of Timmins, Rodney Petroski (Anne) of Verner, Paula Tremblay (Garth) of Thunder Bay, Brian Perreault of Timmins, Michelle Talbot (Scott) of Calgary, Marc Poirier, Lisa Poirier both of Ottawa, Paul Perreault (Stephanie) and Mélanie Perreault all of Timmins. Great grandmother of 10 great grandchildren. Predeceased by 7 brothers and sisters. Aunt to numerous nieces and nephews and survived by a brother in-law Georges Perreault of Timmins. Laura was born in Maniwaki, Quebec on October 4, 1913. She has resided in Timmins since 1934. Laura was a teacher for many years in both Québec and Ontario. She was a member of "Les Femmes Chrétiennes" of Notre Dame du Perpétuel Secours Church as well as "Foie et Partage". Funeral mass will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 7, 2004 from Notre Dame du Perpétuel Secours Church. Interment will follow at the Timmins Memorial Cemetery. Frieda Anna Jucknat (nee Kompa) Sept 12, 1922 - Aug 4, 2004 It is with our deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of Frieda Jucknat at the age of 81, on Wednesday August 4 at Timmins & District Hospital. Frieda was born in Friedrichsof, East Prussia, Germany. She immigrated to Canada in 1954, and was a long time resident of Mitchell’s Corner in Kapuskasing until her move to Timmins in 2003 to Extendicare Nursing Home. Frieda was predeceased by her husband Heinz in 1998, parents Adam and Augusta Kompa, and brother Paul. She will be lovingly remembered by her family, son Frank (Diana), Kapuskasing, daughters, Elke Debora (Denis Morel), Kingston, Sylvia (Claude Paiement), Timmins, and grandchildren Jefferey and Jennifer (Raney Marchand) Kapuskasing.
