Born in Jacquet River, NB, she was a daughter of the late James and Margaret (Brown) Dempsey and wife of the late J.W. Goudreau. She is survived by four daughters Eunice (Jim) Lazarou of North Bay, Ontario, Eleanor (Norby) Laviolette of Lincoln, Shirley (James) Laviolette of Saint John, Mary E. Winton of Oshawa, Ontario; one sister Edna Goodine of Campbellton; 19 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; two sons Armond and Gus; three brothers; one sister; three grandchildren. No visitation by request. Joseph (Joe) Bernard 1918-2004 CANAAN, NB - Joseph Bernard of Canaan, NB, passed away on Monday, January 19, 2004, at the Dr. Georges- L. Dumont Hospital following a lengthy illness. Born in Rogersville, NB, on October 27, 1918 he was the son of the late Marc and Marianne (Arsenault) Bernard. A Veteran of the Second World War, Joe served as a Corporal with the Carlton York Regiment. He retired from the Department of Public Works at the federal building, Main Street, Moncton. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion Moncton Branch #6, Knights of Columbus #1310, as well as a member of the Club d' Age d'Or at both Christ Roi and Notre Dame De Grace. Joseph was known as a very enthusiastic bowler and card player. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marie (Buotte); six daughters and two sons, Elvina Mitchell, of Alberta. Noella (Eugene) Bourgeois of Moncton, Louis Bernard of Brampton, Raymond (Jeannette) Bernard, of Irishtown, Rosella (Leonard) LeBlanc, of Canaan, Doris (Ulysse) Doiron, of Moncton, Anna (Emile) Richard of Notre Dame, Jeanne (Eugene) Gauvin of Lakeside Estates. DOUCETTE, Arthur George - 53, Arcadia, Yarmouth Co. It is with sadness that the Doucette family announces the sudden passing away of Arthur George Doucette, the beloved husband, father, grandfather, son and brother, on January 17, 2004, at home. Born in Yarmouth, he was a son of Edmund and Kathryn (Muise) Doucette. He worked at the Alwood Products Plant on the Hard Scratch Road for 26 years until its closure in 1998. He was recently employed with Borcherdt's Concrete Products, Arthur was well-known by many people. He enjoyed playing cards at the Melbourne Hall, being around old classic cars or mowing lawns for people in the local area on his John Deere. Arthur liked to drop in at the Murphy Motors Garage to play a few quick card games of cards, where he went by the nickname of "Sherlock" to his friends. He was entertaining, kind and always willing to lend a helpful hand. He will be sadly missed by all. Elizabeth (Bessie) Hachey MIRAMICHI, NB - The death of Elizabeth (Bessie) Hachey, widow of James Hachey of Sunnyside Ave., Miramichi, NB, occurred on Thursday, January 1, 2004 at the Miramichi Regional Hospital at the age of 98. Born in Newcastle, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Mary (Howe) Thibodeau. Elizabeth was a graduate of St. Mary's Convent, a member of St. Mary's CWL and Newcastle Friendship Senior Citizens Club. Elizabeth (Bessie) is survived by two daughters, Emily Matheson (Richard) of Miramichi, NB and Sheila Hachey of Miramichi, NB; one grandson, Jimmy Matheson (Cheryl) of Miramichi, NB; and one granddaughter, Anne Reade (Mike) of Riverview, NB; four great grandchildren, Nancy and Jimmy Reade and Katie and John Matheson; and several nieces and nephews. She is predecased by three brothers, Leo, Harry and Jack; three sisters, Anna, Emma and Margaret; and one foster brother, Joe Hogan Thibodeau. The family received visitors at Bell's Funeral Home on Friday, January 2, 2004 from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. Shirley - a gifted floral designer, world traveller and photographer, gentle gardener and truly loving spirit. William is a veteran of WWII and served over seas for three years. Né à Laketon, il était fils de feu Joseph Daigle et de feu Sarah (Vautour) Daigle. Il laisse dans le deuil sept fils: Douglas (Denise) de Saint-Charles, Roy, Leemond et Richard (Thérèse), tous de Laketon, Donald (Isabelle) d’Aldouane, Guy (Anne) et Léonard (Rosella), tous deux de Saint-Louis-de-Kent; 13 petits-enfants, huit arrière-petits-enfants; une soeur, Marie Machett de Newcastle, ainsi que plusieurs neveux et nièces. Quatre soeurs: Gladys, Mammy, José et Nora, ainsi que deux frères: Edmond et Bill, l’ont précédé dans la tombe. Avant sa retraite, M. Daigle a été contremaître dans le bois et contremaître au Parc national Kouchibouguac. La dépouille mortelle est présentement exposée à la Maison mémoriale Thompson de Saint-Louis-de-Kent. DesJARDINS, Edward (Ted) 1937 - 2004 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Edward (Ted) DesJardins, beloved husband of Rose DesJardins of Calgary. Ted passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family at home, on Monday, January 19, 2004 at the age of 66 years. Ted was born June 9, 1937 in Ottawa, ON to Margaret and Earl DesJardins. He was a true humanitarian and was involved in numerous volunteer activities including the Calgary Northeast Eye-Opener Lions Club since the 1970's. He was also a member and past president of the Canadian Citizenship Federation. Ted was involved with the Calgary Multicultural Centre as well as various City of Calgary functions and events. He was also a Red Cross Blood Donor since 1970. Ted worked for many years as a Realtor, Canadian citizenship Judge and served on the Calgary Housing Authority for over ten years. Ted will be dearly missed by his wife of forty-one years, Rose; his four children, Mike, Tammy (Jim), Debbie (Peter), and Cara; three grandchildren, Ashley, Tyson and Colyn. He is also survived by brother Bud DesJardins; sister Pam (John) Meunier; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and in-laws. ALLAN RALPH HAGEN Allan Ralph Hagen, 38, passed away suddenly at the family farm in Blackhawk, Ont. on Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004. Al was born Dec. 4, 1965 in Emo, Ont. to Ralph and Mary Hagen. He was raised on the family farm and loved to spend time there. As a young man, he worked on the diamond drill with his father, Ralph, and then helped his brother, Cliff, build log homes. He was very family-oriented and enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews. He had been especially close to his brother, Kenny. He leaves behind his father, Ralph; brothers, Cliff and wife, Cheryl, and Kevin and wife, Tina, all of Blackhawk, Ont.; sisters, Shirley and husband, Larry Allen, of Barwick, Ont., Marilyn Saniuk and her friend, Jeff, of Winnipeg, Man., Wanda and husband, Conrad LaBelle, of Barwick, Ont., and Lori-Ann and husband, Jean Theriault, of Kenora, Ont. Also surviving are his nieces and nephews, Trevor, Shauna, Christopher, Allison, Crystal, Justin, Amanda, Travis, Tyler, Melissa, Samantha, Miranda, Dustin, Travis, Dillon, and James; great-nephews, Cole, Terrell, and Garrett; great-nieces, Nadine, Jane, and Clara; uncle, Walter Hagen; aunts, Louella Hoskins and Myrtle Loveday; as well as numerous extended family. Al was predeceased by his mother, Mary on Jan. 9, 1996; brothers, Kenny on Oct. 27, 1992 and Stan on April 1, 1996; and niece, Jolene Allen. A memorial service was held Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004 at 2 p.m. at the Off Lake Covenant Church, with Pastor Ken Johnson officiating. Cremation has taken place in Thunder Bay, Ont. Interment will take place in the Chapple Cemetery in Barwick at a later date. The honourary pallbearers were Al’s nephews, Trevor Allen, Christopher Saniuk, Justin Hagen, Travis LaBelle, Tyler LaBelle, Dustin LaBelle, Travis Theriault, Dillon Chapman, and James Hagen. LIPINSKI, Konstancja (Connie), May 8, 1922 to January 20, 2004. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Connie Lipinski (nee Piechocinski), the most loving, kind and remarkable wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Heartb roken over the loss of her beloved husband Frank of 59 years, Connie was unexpectedly reunited with him on January 20, 2004. Connie had enriched our lives by her love, strength and devotion. Her commitment to the family was truly remarkable: she has passed on her love of family, gardening and nature to her children John, Barbara, Krystyna (Rick), Irene (Nick) and Stanislaw (Janne). Her grandchildren (Andrew, Tania and David, Alicia and Philip, Mark, Matthew, Steven, Michael) cherished her warm w isdom and unconditional love. The great-grandchildren (Isaac, Ethan, Owen, Lucas, Carter) will always remember "Babcia's special and delicious chicken noodle soup". Connie was also loved and admired by her relatives and many close friends to whom she opened her heart and home. She has left us all with many wonderful memories. Born in Poland, she served in the British 8th Army (Polish 2nd Corps) during World War II. In 1945, she married the love of her life, Frank, in Italy. Eventually, Connie an d Frank settled in Canada to raise five children with love and dedication. Wally Waslyk passed away at the Smooth Rock Falls Hospital on Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004. He was 84 years-old. Mr. Waslyk was born in Fish Creek, Saskatchewan on Apr. 16, 1919. He was a resident of Smooth Rock Falls from 1947 and worked as an employment supervisor at Abitibi, retiring after 35 years of service with the company, in 1982. His favorite pastimes were reading, watching TV and travelling. He was described as a loving and dedicated husband, father and grandfather. Mr. Waslyk is survived by his wife, Jeannine of Smooth Rock Falls, two sons; Ken (Jill) of Edmonton and John (Darlene) of Smooth Rock Falls, two daughters; Kathleen Taylor (Yvon) and Leslie Gagnon (Denis), both of Smooth Rock Falls.
