IRENE M. CARTER 89, passed away peacefully November 8, 2003 at home in Barrie, Ontario, surrounded by family. Born in Essen Germany, she immigrated to Canada as a teen to Vauxhall Alberta. She met and married the late Harold Carter in Calgary Alberta in 1937. In Toronto, she founded and ran a nursery school for several years. She later entered the business world where she developed a long and rewarding career. During this period, she was an early volunteer President of the Toronto Musicians Credit Union. Upon retirement, Irene taught for several years at Humber College. She enjoyed travel, winters in Florida, and was an enthusiastic bridge player. Since 1998 she was an active volunteer at the Grove Park Home. In memory of her husband, Irene endowed the Harold Carter Memorial Fellowship in string performance at the University of Toronto's School of Music. She is survived by her daughters Sylvia and Carol, her brother Bill, sons-in-law Larry and David, grandchildren Laura, Tina, Eric, Stephanie and Karman, many relatives in western Canada, and many cherished friends. Cremation was arranged by the Steven R. Bridge Funeral Home. Her ashes rest with those of her beloved husband in the Cremorial Gardens of the Barrie Union Cemetery. Friends are invited to join the family in a Celebration of Music in memory of Irene, with Csaba Koazo, first recipient of the Harold Carter Memorial Fellowship, on Saturday December 6th at 1:30 p.m. at Grace United Church, 350 Grove Street East, Barrie, Ontario. Passed away peacefully at home Tuesday, November 4, 2003 in Halifax. Born in Digby in 1904, she was the eldest daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Edith (Nichols) Lynch. She taught primary for over thirty years at the Montreal Protestant School Board and MacDonald College School. She was predeceased by her husband John D. McClearn, brother Richard and sister Mary. She is survived by three nieces and three nephews in Nova Scotia, Toronto and Seattle Wash. Funeral service was held at Trinity Anglican Church, Digby Friday, November 7.

MACKAY, DR. COLIN B. Dr. Colin Bridges Mackay, July 26, 1920 - November 27, 2003. Colin was raised and lived a good part of his life in Rothesay, New Brunswick. He was the son of the late Colin and Jeanette D. (Bridges) Mackay. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Ives (Anglin) in November, 2001. He is survived by his sister, Janet Hart of Vancouver, and a large number of cousins, nephews and nieces. Colin led an active and productive life, graduating from UNB with a BA in history; he went on to serve in the Second World War in the Royal Canadian Navy and was attached to the RN, commanding landing craft during the Normandy Invasion, on June 6th., 1944 and later in the Far East. After the War, Colin returned to school to graduate from UBC with a law degree in 1949 and then spent a brief period practicing and teaching law. Colin went on to serve as the President of the University of New Brunswick from 1953 to 1969. Dr. Mackay kept busy in a variety of roles following his term as President at UNB. He was the Executive Director of the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada from 1971-75. He was a member of the Canadian delegation to the 34th and 35th Assemblies of the United Nations (1979-80) and continued to act as a Special Advisor in 1981 and 1984. He was closely involved with the development of a number of universities in Botswana, Lesotho, Swaziland and Kenya. He served on numerous national and international boards and was very active in promoting the Arts in his home province. Dr. Mackay had many honours bestowed upon him over the years. He was appointed a Queen's Council in June of 1963 and an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1970. He received honorary degrees from 13 Universities. A tireless worker and adventurer, Colin kept himself busy until his health failed him in recent years. Known for his quick mind and his endless energy, he was a man who travelled the world and dined with heads of state, but was frequently spotted riding his motor scooter to his camp on the St. John River. He collected art and beautiful antiques but also enjoyed owning the latest gadgets and 'toys'. "Uncle Colin" thoroughly enjoyed entertaining family at the Farm Camp and took great pleasure in teaching several generations about the proud history of their ancestors. He will be missed. Following cremation, the funeral will be held at St. Paul's Anglican Church, Rothesay, on Tuesday, December 2, 2003 with the service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place later in Fernhill Cemetery. Daughter of the late Sarah (nee Curran) and Henry Hills, she is predeceased by her beloved brother Joe. She will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by her daughters Eileen (Luc Saint-Martin) of Ottawa and Maria (Jean-Pierre Deland) of Quebec City, her adoring grandchildren Nicholas, Elise, Helena and Yann, by her loving brothers Harry (Lillian) of Delta, Warren (Aurore) of Toronto and by her dear sister Mary Linstead (Hal) of Ottawa and her sisters-in-law Ronnie Sheridan, Canandaigua, N.Y. and Geraldine O'Shaughnessy, Orlando, FL. She will be fondly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, cousins, family, friends and all who met her, who will forever be touched by her remarkable gift of self. "Mr. Constantine" Peacefully, in his 97th year, at the Peter D. Clark Centre, Ottawa on Wednesday, November 22, 2003. Predeceased in 1987 by his wife of 56 years, the former Christina Lambros; and by his brothers and sisters. He was the beloved father of 3 daugthers, Maria (Tasso Karkazis) of Folsom, California, Helen (James O'Grady) of Ottawa and Ariadne (Howard Gribble) of White Rock, B.C. Costica was born in Yassi, Romania on March 17th, 1906, and lived in Constantinople, New York and Montreal before coming to Ottawa in 1950. He was the proprietor of Constantine's Pastry in Ottawa until 1964 when he relocated to California to own a new business, McGavin's Bakery, in Stanford Shopping Center, Palo Alto, until 1978. An expert pastry maker and confectioner, his artistic creations were greatly admired by many patrons in both locations. In Ottawa, he was a long time member and President of AHEPA, the men's organization of the Greek Orthodox Church. He leaves a legacy of 10 loving grandchildren, Christine Moll, George Karkazis, Patsy Nunes and Stacy Trossen, all of California; James O'Grady of Toronto; Tammi Mantle of Toronto, Michael Oades of Thunder Bay and Christine Oades of Vancouver; Anita and Hayley Gribble of England and 18 great-grandchildren. Chasity Anne Wentzell , 23, Moncton, NB, died November 16, 2003 in University Hospital, London Health Sciences Centre, London, Ontario. Chasity moved to Moncton with her parents and sister in 1996, just one year after her first transplant. She attended and eventually graduated from Moncton High School in 2000. Chasity went on to study marketing at NBCC while working part time. In May, 2003, Chasity got the news that another transplant was inevitable. Even with this news, she continued to maintain a positive outlook. She loved to dance and surround herself with family and friends. She would have long conversations with people who needed an ear on any topic, from politics to human rights and the preservation of the planet. Chasity's personal platform was, of course, organ and tissue donation and the importance of further research and education on liver disease. As a patient in various hospitals in Halifax, Moncton and Ontario, Chasity could often be found sitting with other patients providing comfort and support, as they needed it. She never believed that she was too sick to help others and would often tell people to take care of themselves rather than worry about her. On November 11, 2003, Chasity underwent her second transplant and was recovering in the Intensive Care Unit at University Hospital with her parents and sister by her side. A small family service was held in her hometown of Bridgewater, Nova Scotia on Saturday, November 22, 2003. A Life Celebration and Open House will be held at Chasity's parent's home on December 6, 2003 at 49 Galbraith Cres., 1:30 - 4:30 pm.

CRAIG, Marguerite Zola "Mig", On Tuesday, November 25, 2003 at the age of 86. Mig is predeceased by her husband Keith Monroe Craig (1989). She is survived by her children Tim (Ruby) of Florida, Wayne (Carla) of St. Catharines and predeceased by her son James and daughter Gayle Cosby. She is survived by her grandchildren Brian, Graham and Paul Craig and James Craig, Jennifer Alaimo and Darren Craig, as well as Jill, Craig and Joy Cosby. Also survived by her brother Ed and sister Geraldine. Prede ceased by her brother Tom and sisters Beatrice, Eva and Eileen. Mig will be remembered by her many brothers and sisters-in-law and her 10 great-grandchildren. Mig was a long standing member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Niagara Falls, and serve d many years with the Catholic Women's League. GREEN, George C. (Retired Manager, National Grocers Peterborough) - At Peterborough Regional Health Centre, Hospital Dr. on Wednesday, November 26th in his 94th year. George, beloved husband of the late Elsie Green. Dear father of Shirley Rokeby (Noel) of Nanimo, B.C. Loving grandfather of Ian Rokeby (Barbara) of New Westminster, B.C., Paul Rokeby (Selena) of Timmins, Ontario, Susan Fuller (Ross) of Dundalk, Ontario and Tom Rokeby of Nanimo, B.C. Proud great-grandfather of Sarah, Dan, Alison, Natalie, Carrie, James, Alysia, Andrew, Samuel and Simon. George was a long-time member at St. Luke's Anglican Church, a 50 year member of the Peterborough Rotary Club and a past District Rotary Governor. A Funeral Service will be held at St. Luke's Anglican Church at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 2nd with visitation one hour prior to the service.
