Dr. John Murnin The death occurred at the Garden Home on Tuesday, September 30, 2003, of Dr. John O'Brien, of Charlottetown, and formerly of Ottawa, age 81 years. Beloved father of Thomas, Mary, John (Pam), Hugh (Kirsten) and Michael (Rhonda) O'Brien. He is also survived by his wife, Mary O'Brien (nee Barr); grandchildren Cameron, Tegan, Stuart, Claire, Ian, Sylvia, Liam, Megan, Bronwyn and Adam O'Brien; sister Kathleen (Alf) Egan; and brothers Hugh (Angela), Michael and Tom (Pearl) O'Brien. He was predeceased by his sister Alice Blues (Tommy). Resting at Hillsboro Funeral Home, 2 Hollis Ave., Stratford, P.E.I., for visitation on Friday, October 3, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 4, 2003 at St. Pius X Church, Charlottetown at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in the Catholic Cemetery, Charlottetown. In the first minutes of his 80th birthday, October 1st, 2003, while in the Ottawa Civic Hospital, Marc slipped away from us very peacefully, but for those who knew and loved him, far too soon. He was the eldest son of the late Eugene Gaudreau and the late Fleur-Ange Comeau. Marc was known for his love of people, especially his family and their friends and children, his quixotic sense of humor, and the very uniqueness that was Marc. He was the beloved husband of Shirley (nee Chisholm) and the adored father of Greg (Karen), D'Arcy (Teri) and Alison (Michel Nobert), and irreplaceable Papa to Jeffrey, Skylar, Austyn, Kelsey, and Heather. He was the loving brother of the late Annette (Jean-Marie Myre) and Raymonde (Ben Allard), Gatineau, QC. Friends and family are invited to a celebration of his life on Sunday, October 5, from noon on at his home, 2123 Grafton Crescent, Ottawa, ON. A private cremation was held. POND, HELEN JEAN The death of Helen Jean Pond of Fredericton, wife of the late LeRoy Pond, occurred on Wednesday, October 1, 2003 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born in Nashwaaksis, she was the daughter of the late Miah and Bessie (Sharp) Willis. She always regretted never becoming a nurse, but surely has earned her cap from a lifetime of lovingly caring for any and all that were sick or infirmed over the years. Through all her own many sicknesses and operations, she was always there with no complaints or mention of her own troubles for those who needed her. The last several years when she couldn't get around, she spent her time knitting mittens for local schools and the Salvation Army. Helen is survived by one son, Ron Pond (Jo) of Whitehorse, Yukon; two daughters, Louise Clapp (Del) of Wetaskiwin, Alberta, and Sheila Arsenault (Alyre) of Fredericton; five grandchildren, Krista Andrews (Mike) and Ron Goodine (Theresa) of Fredericton, Sabrina Pond (Grant) of Edmonton, Alberta, Sean Pond (Melanie) and Samantha Pond (Bill) of Whitehorse; four great grandchildren, Rebecca Goodine, Maxwell Goodine, Kathryn Andrews, and Ember Pond; and several nieces and nephews. Helen was predeceased by an infant daughter, Sharon Anne; brothers Walter, Barry, and Murray Willis; and sisters Nellie Ross and Bessie Billings. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, Brookside Drive at Douglas Avenue, Fredericton North, on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. CORNFIELD, W. JAMES A. - Peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital the death of Wilbur James Albert (Jim) Cornfield occurred on Friday September 12, 2003 at the age of 77. Loving husband of Margaret I. (Sanford) and a son of the late Henry and Jessie (Gates) Cornfield. Jim was employed with T.S. Simms for 32 years and the Town of Sussex for 10 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of Saint George's Anglican Church. Jim greatly treasured his children, grand children and great grandchildren. Besides his wife (Bella), he is survived by two daughters Patricia (Michael) Cosman of Saint John and Joanne (John) Park of Saint John, six grandchildren, Marc (Kathy) Mullin of Sussex, Brent (Karen) Mullin of Norton, Shawn McLaughlin of Saint John, Robert Cosman of Halifax, Melissa Park and Joshua Park both of Saint John, three great grandchildren John (Jacob), Anthony (James) and Branden (Joel) Mullin all of Sussex. Also survived by brothers John Cornfield (Vivian) and George Cornfield (Dorothy) both of Saint John, Vernon Cornfield (Eileen) of P.E.I and Murray Cornfield (Norma) of Rothesay, sister Jessie Byers of Oromocto and several nieces and nephews. STEELE, Gerald F. (Jerry), Passed away peacefully this September 30th, 2003 at the St. Catharines General Hospital at the age of 74. Beloved husband of Micheline Juliette Alarie predeceased in 1986. Son of Veronica Govan and Francis Paul Steele (pre deceased). Loving father of David of Vancouver, Micheline (Michael Tyminski) of Sarnia, Denise (Ed Young) of Edmonton and Sean (Nadia) of St. Catharines. He will be sadly missed by his siblings Joan Roth of Connecticut, Ronald (Margaret) of Calgary, Catherine (Fred Buchal) of Mississauga. Lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Dylan, Tara, Tayler, Marwan, Danielle, Dalton and Karissa. Jerry was born in London, Ontario, September 13, 1929, and was a veteran of the Korean War. MESSER, JEREMY DALE Jeremy D. Messer of Harvey, passed away October 1, 2003 at his home. Born at Fredericton on January 12, 1973, he was the son of Bruce and Beatrice (Rosborough) Messer. Jeremy loved fishing with his son Tyler and had a special bond with all children he met. His love of animals led to volunteer work with the SPCA. He is survived by a son, Tyler George Messer; his parents of Harvey; a sister, Charity Hinchey (Billy), Harvey; a niece, Emma Hinchey; his maternal grandmother, Lena Rosborough, Harvey; his paternal grandmother, Kathleen Messer, McAdam; several aunts, uncles and cousins. Jeremy was predeceased by his grandfathers, George Rosborough and Eugene Messer. JOHNSTON, PHYLLIS AUDREY (BIRD) The death of Phyllis Audrey (Bird) Johnston, widow of Floyd H. Johnston, occurred on Thursday, October 2, 2003 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. She was 82. She was the daughter of the late Ernest and Rettie (Brewer) Bird. Phyllis had many careers, but most enjoyed her "retirement" years when she and her husband had a stall at the Boyce Farmers Market. Phyllis is survived by her daughter Patricia Johnston, Fredericton, brother Carl Bird, Fredericton; half-sisters Geraldine (Winston) Mount, Brockville, ON, Carlene (John) Tranquilla, Fredericton, Gloria (Robert) Dickinson, Kirkland, PQ; step-brothers, Charles (Madeline) Bird, Prince George, BC, Roland (Ethel) Bird, Burlington, ON and step-sisters Mildred Hansen, Burtts Corner, NB and Nelda (Ron) Targett, Fredericton, and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. S. Agnes Fowlie 1916-2003 Miramichi, NB - Mrs. Susan Agnes Fowlie, wife of William Fowlie, of the Mount St. Joseph Nursing Home, and formerly of Black River Bridge, passed away at her residence, on Thursday, October 2, 2003, at the age of 87. Born in Black River Bridge, she was the daughter of the late John E. and Catherine S. (Watling) MacLean. She was a homemaker, a retired employee of the Mount St. Joseph Nursing Home, a member of St. Stephens United Church, Black River Bridge, a church organist for over 25 year, a life member of the U.C.W., a former Elder as well as Sunday School Teacher and member of the church choir, a former member of the Ladies Aid and the Womens Institute. She is survived by her husband, William Fowlie of Miramichi; two daughters, Anna Watling (Neil) of Little Branch and Beth Fowlie of Miramichi Bay; three sons, Ingram Fowlie (Connie), of Port Hawksbury, N.S., Ted Fowlie (Blanche), of Miramichi Bay and Archie Fowlie (Jean), of Bathurst; one brother, Everard MacLean (Bertie), of Black River Bridge; 19 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.
