MME SIMONE LECOMPTE VILLENEUVE LAVIGNE est décédée le 10 août 2003 au CHSLD Papineau à l'âge de 89 ans. Elle était l'épouse en premières noces de feu Réginald Villeneuve et en deuxièmes noces de feu Ronaldo Lavigne et fille de feu Xavier Lecompte et de feu Eugénie Chénier. Elle laisse dans le deuil ses quatres enfants: Jacques Lavigne (Andrée Poirier), Claude Villeneuve (Guylaine Périard), Francine Villeneuve (Pierre Chartrand) et Denis Villeneuve (Danielle Michaud); six petits-enfants: Pierre, Stéphane, Martin, Jean-Maxime, Isabelle et Julien; deux arrière-petits-enfants: Vincent et Marco ainsi que plusieurs beaux-frères, belles-soeurs, neveux, nièces et amis. L'ont prédécédée, tous ses frères et soeurs. Il n'y aura pas de visites à la maison funéraire. Passed away on August 7, 2003 in Toronto, Ontario, at the age of 87 years. Predeceased by his beloved wife Iris in 1997, and two brothers, Dowler and Neil. He is survived by his 2 sons, Gary (Jeanne) and Terry; 4 grandchildren; 4 great-grandsons and brother Doug. There will be no funeral at Keith's request. Keith served with the Royal Canadian Dental Corps during WWII and went on to a long and distinguished career with External Affairs. Keith was a kind and generous man whose passion for golf was well known. He was able to knock a few balls around on most of the world's best courses and is now happily golfing again with Iris.

(Billowes) Suddenly of heart failure early Monday morning, August 11th, 2003, our beloved Marguerite Amelia has left us all too soon, at the young age of 70. Loving mother of Tony, Larry (life partner of Deborah Andrews) and Chris Finn; beloved grandmother of Paris, Nick, Lyndsay, David and little Sydney Mae Amelia and loving companion of Colin Billowes. Survived by sisters, Vera, Jackie, Theo, Sylvia and Shirley and predeceased by siblings, Jack (WWII) and Molly. Marguerite, a native of Newfoundland, was well known as an early childhood educator before her retirement and helped set many an Ottawa child on their way in life equipped with wonderful values. Well known as a master potter, she was a founding member of Crossroads Canadian Fine Crafts and her pots can be found in a place of pride in many a household worldwide. Her loving disposition and outstanding ability to care made her a friend of many. She will be sorely missed by her family and many friends, both in Canada and in Florida, where she enjoyed the winters in recent years. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to one of the heart research funds in her name. The family will be in attendance for a memorial gathering at the Westboro Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 403 Richmond Road (at Roosevelt) on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. A memorial celebrating her life will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. in the chapel.

Edouard Romeo LeBlanc OROMOCTO, NB-Edouard Romeo LeBlanc of Oromocto West died on Monday August 11, 2003 at the age of 69 after a brief illness. Born in Dieppe, NB, Ed was the son of the late Marguerite and Adolphe LeBlanc. Ed is survived by his wife of 47 years, Jeannine (Richard) formerly of Rogersville and five children, Gisèle LeBlanc (Bob Skillen) of New Maryland, Carole McMurtrie (Nigel) of Tide Head, Daniel LeBlanc (friend Cherie Hamlyn) of Labrador City, Claire Ramsay (Dallas) of Oromocto West, and Denyse LeBlanc (Michel Parent) of Oromocto. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Anne-Marie, John and David Skillen, Carisa and Bryna McMurtrie, Emma and Hanna Ramsay, Jeffrey and MarcAndré Parent and Dylan Hamlyn. Ed leaves to mourn six sisters, Yvonne Allain (Abel), Doris LeBlanc (Leo), Stella LeBlanc, Ruth Donnelle (Don) and Emilie Richard all of Dieppe, NB, Jeanne of Watertown, New York; one brother, Henry LeBlanc (Anne-Marie) of Grand Digue, NB and Phoenix, Arizona and one brother-in-law, Gerry Doiron of Dieppe. He also leaves behind his mother-in-law, Mai Richard as well as two sisters-in law, Diane Legere (Bernard), Mariette Richard (Gilles); a brother-in-law, Charles Richard (Kathy), all of Rogersville, NB and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by five sisters, Lucie, Zelma, Marie, Evéline and Juliette and one brother, Adolphe. Ed had a distinguished career in the Canadian Armed Forces that spanned nearly 34 years. He retired in 1988 after attaining the rank of Chief Warrant Officer. During his career he saw two tours of duty overseas, the first in 1957 when he was stationed in Egypt for 12 months. His second overseas tour came in 1975 when he spent six months in Ismalia fulfilling the role of WO in charge of local contracts. As WO he had direct contact with Israeli, Syrian and Egyptian suppliers. Ed enjoyed many things in life including golf, curling, gardening and making bread but it was his time spent with family and friends that were his most cherished. Ed was first and foremost a family man. His love for his wife, children, sons-in-law and grand children was evident every day. Known as Pappy to his grand children, Ed was a doting grand father. His kind hearted manner and unwavering good spirit acted as an inspiration to all. These attributes will serve as a lasting memory of this kind and gentle man who in his own way made the world a better place in which to live. The family would like to thank Drs. Middleton, Pniak and Sainz and Dr. R. Prosser along with the nurses of the William R. Duffie Ward, the Medical 1 Ward and the Palliative Care unit at the Oromocto Public Hospital and the Rehab unit at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital for the care that they showed Ed during the last weeks of his life. He was a dedicated sales leader for Hostess Frito-Lay for 10 years. He played hockey with the Cole Harbour Never Sweats for 20 years. Daniel also enjoyed golf, fishing and football. RITA MARIE LYS (PEARSON) (nee MARTIN) Peacefully on August 9, 2003 with her family by her side, Rita passed away. Rita was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who was so proud of her granddaughters. She was predeceased by her daughter Linda at the age of 19 in 1969; two sisters, Alma and Lillian; also her parents, George and Anna Martin. Left to mourn her passing is her beloved husband of 32 years, Bill; and from British Columbia, her son Dwight Pearson; grand-daughters, Gloria Lynn and Shannon Marie and their mother Brenda; also one sister and four brothers, Theresa Coulombe of B.C., Edward of B.C., Paul (Gail), Wilfred (Anne), David (Mary) Martin all of Winnipeg; many nieces and nephews, and she cared about each and every one of them. She also leaves her only uncle Lucien and Cecile Frechette; three sisters-in-law, Anne Harasymchuck, and Sophie and Ollie Lys; also Millie Bilenky who she considered a sister-in-law. Rita loved people. She worked all her life with the public. Her last employment was at the Curtis Hotel where she worked for 27 years. In 1992, Bill and Rita retired to their home in Sunset Bay. There, they enjoyed all the neighbors and new friends who really became extended family. They became members of the Pioneer Club in Lac du Bonnet where they enjoyed many friends. There are many people to thank for all they did for Bill and Rita. Special thanks goes to David and Mary Martin for making their home available to them for many, many years. Our neighbors too numerous to mention made life much easier for them. A very special thank you to Dr. Petkau and the oncologist, Dr. Choudary, and to Darryl for the palliative homecare given. In accordance with Mom's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held August 13 at 10:30 a.m. at the Transcona Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day St. with her brother, Paul Martin, officiating. ELMER SWAN NORLUND Elmer Swan Norlund, 83, of Emo, Ont., passed away Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2003 at Thunder Bay Regional Hospital in Thunder Bay Ont. He was born May 15, 1920 in Gameland, Ont. to the late Swan and Agnes Norlund. On June 20, 1944, he married Teresa Armstrong—the love of his life. A life-long resident of the district, he made his home in Emo. He successfully founded, owned, and operated Norlund Oil, an independent oil company, until his retirement in 1988. He also played the chromatic accordion with his band, the Norlund Funtimers. The son of Swedish immigrants, Elmer had a keen interest in his heritage and was proud of his fluency in Swedish. He made a number of trips to Sweden to maintain contact with relatives. In 1973, he built and maintained the Norlund Chapel as an act of love. Elmer wanted to provide a peaceful setting where people of all faiths could find comfort. A sensitive man, he was always deeply touched by the people who visited. A keen outdoorsman, Elmer planted hundreds of trees, built a cabin on Clearwater Lake, and welcomed the deer and birds on his property. He enjoyed restoring old cars, making skis, and always kept himself busy. Elmer is survived by his daughters, Mary (Syd) Curtis of Emo, Ont., and Joanne (John) Carroll of Thunder Bay, Ont.; and son, Harold (Susan) of Sequim, Wash. He also leaves 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his sisters, Elsa Hanson of Rainy River, Ont., and Emma (Albert) Hanson of Steinbach, Man.; brother, Verner (Dorothy) Norlund of Rainy River, Ont.; and numerous relatives in Canada, the U.S., and Sweden. Elmer was predeceased by his beloved wife, Teresa (2000); daughters, Joan (1957) and Maureen (1993); brother, Carl Norlund (1988); and sister, Mary Fugate (2000). Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003 at 2 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Fort Frances, Ont., with Rev. Tom Aiken officiating. He was laid to rest at the Emo Cemetery next to his wife, Teresa. Friends visited Monday, Aug. 18, 2003 at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. Pallbearers were Dan Curtis, Garry Curtis, Ward Williams, Bill Johnson, Mike Armstrong, and Jerry Whalen. LeBLANC, Alphonse-83, Grosses Coques, died August 9, 2003, in Digby General Hospital. Born in Grosses Coques, he was a son of the late Leopold and Cecile LeBlanc. He was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Clare Branch No. 52, Saulnierville, and a member of Order of Good Time. He was also an avid dancer and a teacher of ballroom dancing for over 28 years. He taught amateur wrestling in Halifax at the Y.M.C.A. and he also loved skating. He worked in construction most of his life. He was a veteran of the Second World War having served two years in Merchant Marine and two years in the army. Surviving are wife of 62 years, Anna; sons, Victor (Karen), St. Bernard; Jean (Debbie), South Rawdon; Michael (Flora), Grosses Coques; daughters, Dorothy (Gary) Boone, Antigonish; Patsy (Marcel) Comeau, Saulnierville; brothers, Willie, Grosses Coques; Leger, Halifax; Norman, Ontario; sister, Loretta Comeau, Belliveau Cove; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by sisters, Rosie, Marie, Cecile. Visitation 7-9 p.m. today in Meteghan Funeral Home. Funeral 2 p.m. Tuesday in St. Mary's Church, Church Point, where a Legion service will follow, Rev. Leo Richard officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery.
